it was a bit fun at first to sail and have pirate combat. However this is a negative review because the music is very lack luster and it has performance issues. Even after re-configuring my resolution and the other typical VR fixes it continued to lag after 10mins of gameplay. Music in a pirate game is very important and it sucks that all you hear is unity "epic game trailer" shit that makes my head hurt -- the sea shanties playlist could not help this game
Short lived journey but man is this game super fun! Makes you feel like a pirate like no other game!
I picked this up back in Early access thinking that "Hey the devs seem to be really developing this game and by release would be packed full" That did not happen at all. It's Skull and Bones but less to do and that is saying something cause Skull and Bones is a dumpster fire of an attempt at a pirate game,, but thats for a different review and day.
What this game is missing which would have made it for me the best Pirate game of all time
-No land battles
-No boarding
-No taking NPC ships
-No fleets
-No Pirate Dens
-No taking over Ports
-No real economy to speak of
-Missions and quests seem all the same
-Not a real pirate game just a Naval VR game with bare bones

I wish this would have been the Pirate game on VR I have been longing for, a full Pirate experience with replay value that is up there with games like Black Flag or Sea Of Thieves. If someone ever made a SOT VR type game I would gladly pay $70 for the game and I feel many who love the Pirate fantasy would as well, This game however is not it or close it's fun for an hour or two to get out ship combat out of your system but thats it.
I would say get the game and I give it 3 stars out of 5 for what it is and what it offers but only if you catch it on sale for $15 or less which is as I write this is on Sale. Full price though I would look else where for a great VR game.
the game looks nice, play nice, but there's really not much gameplay except steering the boat and shooting with the cannons, gets boring after 10mins.
I like the idea, i like the Gameplay. I could like this game. But there is nothing in it which says, hey play me longer. Its short time fun but nothing more. its sad because there could be so much more with this game!
Its really fun, and the controls are perfect. Its also a pretty long game it does not take 20 minuets to complete which I love, I would definitely recommend it.
Pretty good game, solid, not incredible, almost makes me miss AC OD and such, the bad thing are:
You cannot move like with the quest controllers in the menu, you must move like in real life (no a big problem but keep this in mind).
Game mode great, i would prefer more sea sound not so much the voices and more dark colors not so bright, it would make it more dramatic and that would make the game more realistic and intense.
soooo this game i bought it on sale which i recommend you do i love it dont get me wrong but in my 3.8 hours ive played i beat the game and got both the ships that you can buy. it is fun for what it is but i feel it lacks content yes you can sail the open waters and just shoot at other ships theres a survival mode which isnt too bad at all. just for a full release game it looks great sounds great plays great but just doesnt have enough idk if ill play it again after beating it but putting some sea shanties on while playing definitely was a good time
im refunding this game. all you do is sit behind steering wheel, ring a bell to speed up, or another bell to slow down. you fire your side cannon and then crew will fire along with you if the guns are reloaded in time.
super rapid fire, side canon every 2 seconds or so and main guns every 6 seconds. no tactics, just aim and shoot. good luck aiming, precise movements in VR suck. and its not just aiming the arc to hit the ship you have to lead target and this is super arcadey so the AI ships move around like crazy. long shots are hard while the AI shots are on target. first boss sails away at range fast. there is chain shot to take out sails i guess but im already done with this.
all you had to do was make blackwake but in VR. blackwake is already a very arcadey version of what naval warfare used to be, but at least basic tactics were available
They nailed the feeling of being on a boat, If you have issues with motion sickness you should avoid this.,
The graphics are good but the controllers are really bad.
You have to fight the game to be able to grab things which is immersion breaking.
The game feels lifeless and there is nothing else to do than to sail the sea and shoot different enemy ships.
I originally played this game on Viveport with my Infinity subscription for free. the version there was really old so I decided to try this version instead. The first time I loaded into Explore mode it put me out in the middle of the ocean with lovely waves and music. I thought that was part of the game until several minutes later nothing was happening. I also tried playing multiplayer and it crashed the game twice before allowing me to play on the third go around.
Super fun game but with all the crashes and repetitive game play I had to submit a refund.

Expensive, limited and boring. I am usually not this harsh on reviews, however this price is not acceptable for the gameplay or content.
In essence you are the captain of the ship and without the ability to move, you can make the boat go slower or faster, you can steer it and you can shoot the canons with few different types of ammo. Yes, that's it in a nutshell.
The team could instead have invested on a Sea of Thieves type concept in VR, where you could explore, fight, quest, buy/upgrade ships, cosmetics, etc. Would it be complex? Yes. Would it take time? Yes. However, it just seems like a lost opportunity for the momentary hype this game had and is now losing due negative comments where one can't even claim "you get what you pay for" as this isn't cheap. Not only VR fans but also Sea of Thieves fans would likely be all over this if it was anything alike.
Despite VR still being "recent" we are no longer at a stage where any game without relevant gameplay or content is acceptable, just because its VR and "its all about the visual experience and immersion".
Hopefully the team completely revamps the game or likely starts from scratch on version 2 of what could be a great game concept.
You're just a stationary unit shooting cannons or driving the boat, you can't actually move yourself. It's not "Sea of Thieves in VR".
The overall graphics and the water physics are quite enjoyable.
Not entirely terrible but disappointing to say the least.
AC Black Flag has always been my favourite pirate gaming experience and I'll go out and say Furious Seas comes a close second. The water looks great, the VR experience is really fun and I really felt like I was commandeering a pirate ship. I think the price is really fair and all in all, I had a "blast"!Something that could make the battles so much more epic would be seeing your crew or other ship's crew get damaged by the cannonballs. Heads/arms flying off or exploding overboard, more detailed and intimate damage to ships as they are hit. I felt a bit what evs in the battles and I think more detail would really ramp up the intensity levels.
All in all, good solid pirate experience!
The games got Potential, and the Story mode was Fun. However, Mulitplayer needs to be rethought, as it's empty for a reason.
My ship would occasionally get thrown underwater and would tumble around until it popped back on the surface, I was willing to overlook these issues and was really enjoying the Story mode until this happened 6 times in a row on a single mission and started giving me headaches with all the spinning and weird colours that happens.
At this time i cannot Recommend this title, however i did enjoy the story mode upto this point and may check back on the game in the future and update my review.
My rating - 10/10. A must-have if you got the rig and the hmd.
After trying the game - I'm totally blown away, and slightly seasick, but in the greatest way, lol. Had the most awesome moment actually having to duck to avoid an enemy cannon ball hitting my head - while sailing the pirate ship.
My rig: Asus Strix OC RTX 3090, i9 10900K, Z590 mainboard, 32GB. Game installed on Samsung 860 EVO 4TB.
I used Index res 200% - which is very demanding in this game, but looks fantastic. Also used highest in-game setting, and then 8xMSAA. That was slightly optimistic, lol - in 120 Hz I got reprojections - also in 90 Hz. But no reprojections lowering MSAA to 4x (8xMSAA seemed to work in solid 90 fps in-game, but maybe better just using 4xMSAA - keeping the res 200% is the most important).
Thus my settings:
90 Hz, 4xMSAA, res 200%, Highest graphics setting.
Totally feels like sailing a pirate ship - some dude wrote that this game has the best water in any VR game. Ok, maybe Subnautica is slightly better at the menu screen, but you get the idea. Totally AWESOME water.
Now to save performance (I guess), not all things run in 90 fps, but waving your hands you can easily tell if you got solid 90 fps or not. I would not recommend 120 Hz for this game - 90 Hz seems perfect, then there's more headroom for eye candy like more res or MSAA.
Even using res 200% you can see difference between 4xMSAA and 8xMSAA, but 4xMSAA is quite good. In the heat of battle you don't notice any difference, lol.
Thus system requirements aren't totally spot on saying you just need a GTX 1050Ti for this game. A RTX 2080 as the minimum is probably more realistic. Also the new version takes up 17GB, not 8 like said on the Steam page. Download size is only 5.4GB though.
I only tried singleplayer, and battles were great. Like Battlewake, this is more arcade oriented gaming than a sim, but I'm not much into cumbersome sims - here you have easy access to awesome entertainment. The vibes from Pirates of the Caribbean are all over this game. Also while Battlewake looks cartoonish - Furious Seas looks like the real thing (and that's why you need a beefy gpu).
Few VR games have impressed me more. Awesome dynamic shadows on everything, looks like cloth animations too (for physics) - high-res textures making surfaces look real (or close).
Index controllers are shown as Wands, but everything works perfectly. Didn't notice Wands after a few seconds. Great force feedback when holdering the helm (helm = the pirate steering wheel on the ship).
Sound is great too - although the game lacks intro/menu music, but you get music etc. in-game.
This is the closest I've ever felt to being aboard and commanding a real pirate ship, my greatest thanks and applause for the devs!
This game is a go-to for me when I just want to play something for 30 minutes to an hour or so, and have fun feeling like a pirate! I can't say enough how much I feel like this game could be as fun (or more) than SEA OF THIEVES, if things keep being added. The base to this game has been created, and it looks and plays SO well! Is it a full game yet, no - but the developers ARE still working on it, and just made a major update, and I LOVE what they've added so far. Getting better each time. PLEASE keep adding to this - being able to have friends as crew mates would be AMAZING. Being able to wonder around on shore would be great too, but I know that's not the game you've made (so far). SO much potential here - and if anyone ever feels like playing some multiplayer, hit me up! Keep up the great work, devs, and let's stay behind them with support!
This game has great potential, but after 15 minutes of playing it is all so repetetive and after 20 minutes becomes boring unfortunately. Turn and shoot. Too simple. Would be great if you could change position to different cannon and be just shooter and some of your soldiers would turn the ship on his own. I am thinking about refunding, even with 11 EUR price.
This game is the same thing, the whole time. The graphics not bad, the sea looks nice, it is nice, but like somebody else said, a demo.
i know its early access but i can only review whats available so please...relax. This game is BORING. Dont come into it thinking Sea of Thieves or AC Black Flags ship battles in VR. All you do is ring 2 bells to slow down or speed up, turn the wheel of the ship (and clip through land masses) and aim a very inaccurate unpredictable tiny cannon (one to the left of the wheel and one to the right).
The game is as basic as basic can be... You cant move around, you cant order attacks while you pay attention to steering and speed because the AI only fires when you do. Its possible that someday this game will be amazing and i truly hope thats the case. Ill buy it again if that happens but right now do yourself a favor and wait.
Despite there not being much content yet, this is still very much worth the price as it's as close to being in AC: Black Flags ship battles as you'll ever get. Looks great, the water in particular, and runs well. Quite exicited to see what it turns out like.
Furious Seas is still pretty bare bones, there's not much content right now, I would even say it's a proof of concept, but the game is visually fantastic, it runs great, it's really immersive and the core idea is there.
I bought it at full price and had no intention to ask for a refund because there's a huge potential here but if you're expecting a lot of replayability and a deep gameplay you will be disappointed. After all this an early acces title.
I think the addition of the exploration mode is a great step toward an Elite: Dangerous type of experience which I think is what a lot of people want. Now we need an open world with ports, trading, ship customization and of course multiplayer.
That being said, the last update was almost 2 months ago and there's no news about what's next... So I'm a bit worried about the time it will take to become a true fully fleshed game. I still have high hopes though!

So far so good! A nice arcade-y nautical adventure. The controls are cleverly laid out so you can stand in one place and operate everything.
Very fun to watch the sails go up and down and the crews react to your commands. I was concerned about getting motion sick on the rolling seas but somehow it wasn't an issue.
No wind direction present so far.
Looking forward to more!
You wait all day for a pirate game, then three come along at once!
Another *very* early review (I will update when I have gotten further in).
I have got to the point where I am sick to the gills with crappy, little, broken VR games. I bought this expecting it to be the same. But as soon as I reached the main menu - I could see this was something on a whole different level. From the realistic wave-effects (best I have seen in VR, by a long way), to the excelent sound design and professinal graphics (no 'playmobile' figures in this one!) - this is a very polished game.
Just half an hour in, and I am thinking 'man these guys nailed it here'. The controls as really simple: Oe hand grips the ships' wheel, and the other controls a cannon by your side - and by extension, all of the cannons on the ship - ring one bell to you left, and the crew lower the sails; the bell on the right, and the sails are raised. *Very* simple, but perfect, as the controls do not get in the way of the immersion and the experience (as can often be the case in other games).
The gameplay is basically the ship battles from Black Flag (nothing wrong with that!). After playing two missions, it seems that the game loop is a bit 'rinse and repeat' (but take this with a pinch of salt, as I am not far into the game), still - this is early access and hopefully the devs will add more variety of missions (like smuggling runs to earn money to upgrade your ship - remember, this may already be there, as I have not played long at all). Also, even if it is just getting on the sea and blasting cannons at other ships - well, that's good enough for me!
So, why the very early review? Well, the game is so much FUN -do you remember when games *were* just fun - an escape from the drudgery of life? - before all games became brown and post apocalyptic zombie-fests? This has a real Nintendo vibe to it. The sun is shining, the sailors are singing shanties, the waves look beautiful - everything is slick and fun (you could almost forget we are heading to the appocalypse!). So here I am playing with a big goofy grin on my face, thinking 'man, I need to tell everone how good this is!'.
A real ray of sunshine in a sea of gloom.
