A peaceful Katamari-like meets Flower (2009). Great soundtrack that I think changes with the time of day. Can be a very pretty game. Camera takes some getting used to as it sometimes gets blocked by objects and you have to kind of aim it downward to avoid it getting buried in the grass.
Not sure about the central message as you collect all this nature to grow this one big pink tree, but the wildlife seem to be thriving, so maybe it's not all bad. Also, the game says it loves you at the end, so how can you really hate it?
Also, I had this game in my Steam wishlist for a long time and never realized until recently that it's an early game from the developer, Chilla's Art, who make a lot of great Japanese horror games. Was a pleasant surprise.
Lot of little tree make BIIIIIIIIIG tree
When I bought this game, I just wanted to see if I would like it despite the reviews being mostly negative, and... yes, I did enjoy it. The reason I wanted to buy it despite the like.. 30% like-to-dislike ratio was because I usually like unpopular games, so, you should definitely give it a try if you haven't!
*i got this game in a bundle for 3$*
Honestly, get this game when it's not full price. Finished the game in an hour, you just collect trees to grow the bigger tree.. Weirdly relaxing tho but it's not a game I would replay.
Get rid of the grass in the settings and it's actually quite enjoyable.
This is the worst fucking "game" that I have ever played.
I don't really understand the justification for £7.19 for this game, it's standard price should really be about £0.72 and that's being generous.
I envy anybody who can find this game enjoyable.
This is the type of game that will make you appreciate any other game more by virtue of
playing this for more then 10 minutes.
I had more fun Writing this review then whatever tf I just played.
The game is pretty.
The game has nice music.
The game made me want to throw up because of the rolling physics being janky and abrupt.
PS: Why were the cows so small but the elephants so big?
The colors were nice and bright, but I just didn't really get what to do or the point of the game.
This is the greatest Game i have ever been afforded the privilege of being able to play. Would recommend to everyone seeking enlightenment.
If you are looking for a place to do some thinking i would recommend this, you cant think of this as a game because there is not much here to be called a game.
You can buy《Flower》on Steam at a lower price.
Eh, sideways thumb. I'm almost always a fan of Chilla's Art.
I'm pretty surprised that this game is $9.99. There are no achievements, very little replay value, and I was bored after 30 minutes. *IF* you buy this, it really should be on a 85% sale.
This is a casually relaxing experience that ends up being just a little bit frustrating. The mechanics and goal of the game feel inspired by Katamari. You're an orb that rolls around collecting objects in nature and you deliver them to a pink tree.
This isn't 100% clear btw. You're told to gather items and build the tree when you start, but not what tree or where. Luckily, I was able to jump pretty high and see the lone pink tree in the landscape.
Growing the tree itself was a confusing. Sometimes when you bring it things, it would vacuum them right up. Other times, I had to jump/climb to the top of the tree before it would accept the items. The tree gets bigger, but after a while, it starts becoming hard to notice any difference.
As I said, I lost interest after about 30 minutes of playtime.
Meh/10
Your god, the almighty cherry blossom tree commands you to massacre all life on planet earth (except for butterflies.) You must commit genocide on both flora and fauna to satiate your pink lords unending thirst for blood. You will feed it until nothing remains on earth except trees grown higher than mountains.
While this game is not really my kind of thing I must admit that it does what it sets out to do very well. It brings you into a zen-like state where you keep collecting things for no reward.
The only real problem the game has is that sometimes your camera gets obscured by all the stuff you've collected that hover around you, and you can also accidentally put the camera under tall grass (the camera is completely in your control though, use that to your advantage and get out of that grass.)
Let me start by saying this game isn't for everyone. It's very slow and relaxing. However, I think it's a nice time. About 45 minutes of just wandering around collecting different plants and animals to grow the main tree. Are there things that could be done better? Yes. Do I find those these drastically hampering down my experience? No. Honestly the 2 worst parts about this game in my opinion are that are no achievements/trading cards and that the things you collect follow you and ruin screenshot potential/obscure your view. This game definitely does not deserve mostly negative reviews on the store. If this game is on sale and you think this game looks like something you'd enjoy, then give it a shot.
I'd only recommend this game if buying at a discount (like I did) as the full price is not worth it. It feels very empty. There's just nothing to it and it's unclear what you're meant to be doing. There's the implication of "grow your tree" but it doesn't really explain how or where the tree is.
Even just a few more pieces here and there to add some lore/story to the world would have made this game 200% more fun. But as it is it feels more like a graphics test and so becomes boring very fast. I also fell through the ground/got stuck in things multiple times, and I only played for less than 20 minutes!
The graphics, sounds, and music are pretty, but other then that it's empty. I DID like the customisation in the settings- But tbh, the fact the settings had more to them than the actual game it made it feel even more like a test and not a fully fleshed out experience.
Also a note, it was very difficult to see and I had to keep changing the brightness settings to match the time of day in the game + where I was on the map, because it was either so dark it was black, or so bright and reflective my entire screen went white.
You can go forward, backward, left, right, and jump. That's it. No turning. Your too short to see anything but grass and you can't look around.
If you hit a tree it shrinks and follows you, til it stops for some reason.
Their are bell sounds as you move on the ground, no idea why.
Took me about 6 minutes to run into the mountain, then I quit.
Sphaera is a decent walking sim, but be aware - it's easy to bounce off (no pun intended). I started playing this once or twice and felt frustrated because it looked like the game was glitching out on me and nothing was happening. Hang in there. It take about 10 minutes of rolling around aimlessly till you figure out what is going on.
Overall the game has a similar structure to Proteus, but the progression is less apparent off the bat because the graphics are very stylized and your view is artificially limited by the grass. It feels more like glimpses of a saturated dreamscape than a real navigable world. Just let go and enjoy it. The music isn't as good as Proteus, but it has its moments. Well worth it for walking sim fans.
"Even if I knew that tomorrow would go to pieces I'd still plant my apple tree."
Sphaera is game that has pretty visuals and a spiritual/philosophical atmosphere. Where are you and why are you here? Are you assisting the creation of a new world at the expense of an old? A separate dimension not in the material realm? Is the tree God?
It has a nice idea and it's pretty to play. I enjoyed the freedom of bouncing around a field. There's just not enough to it for it to feel like a game. It feels unfinished and empty, like it's a map still in alpha. The game description says you can explore in the game, but there is very little to explore. The objective of the game, and only thing to do is gather trees and animals to be consumed by the tree of life, or find positive affirmations around the map. It's an endless fetch-quest.
It left me with a strong feeling of 'Is this it?' and looking at the other reviews I can see no other reviewer has played it for more than an hour. Is this all Chilla's Art wanted to do with it? More can be done with it. There's the potential here to be a very special game, it's just not at that stage now. Maybe it's only intention is to be a meditation device, not a game. Either way I should have looked deeper into it before buying, because it's exactly as it advertises, and there's next to nothing more to it.
Also, I knew what I was getting into with the performance issues, but figured my comp that can play ARK on ultra could handle this. It froze twice and then crashed on me. This is something the developer should look into.
hi!! the game is very pretty but uh----also very laggy- is there anything i can do to fix that..? otherwise its a pretty nice and relaxing game-
It's actually a great relaxing game with good music. Even if it just collecting things to grow The Tree or just enjoy the nature around us, this game really helps me to relax when I'm having a bad day or just when I'm having a rainy mood. It's like having my own little world where I don't have to feel worry about anything. This game needs you to do some simple things :
-Collect
-Look around you
-Enjoy nature and animals
You can also try to find hidden quotes in this game. Like there is this one that speaks to me : "The Tree is Nature's forest masterpiece and so far as I know, the greatest of living things." It makes me want to go outside and walking more often in forest. I think I haven't taken enough time to observe and appreciate the silence and the beauty of nature.
Anyway, it's sure that this game won't please everyone. Some people like to play a game where there is a background story, action and a really specific goal. But some people like to play a relaxing game where they can just chill.
And if this game can help people like me to relax, I think it's worth buying it. But you can also wait for sales. So I highly recommend Sphaera for his peaceful vibe.
I'm looking forward to more updates ! It would be great if we can save our game. I don't mind playing all over again but I prefer to play where I started so I can continue to grow The Tree.
