Thank You Endnight For This MASTERPIECE
10/10 would purchase it again
best game oat but the some of the mutants are too strong
I highly recommend this game to folks who enjoy a challenge - when playing solo, I find Peaceful best, but in a group of friends, its fun to work together to manage the aggressive cannibals. A fun challenge to survive.
The Forest is a great survival horror game that doesn’t rely on cheap methods to scare the player. The feeling of isolation on an island that is filled with cannibalistic mutants, accompanied by their creepy counterparts, is enough to keep you on edge all the time. After a plane crash, the protagonist’s child gets kidnapped by a “red” man, and the game tasks you to go after him while maintaining a life on the dangerous island called Peninsula. Your initial and most obvious task is to build a base while keeping your hunger and thirst in check. Most of the stuff you can build is predetermined, but you can also build custom structures. However, disturbing the area by cutting down trees and hunting down animals brings some unwanted visitors to your area. At first, they observe your actions, but they eventually attack and try to tear down your hard work. The first batch of the cannibalistic mutants does not pose much of a threat, it’s their creepy counterparts that start appearing after a few days that start doing the real damage. The deformed mutants called Armsy, Virginia, and Cowman are the ones you should be on the lookout for.
Once you’re done with building and start maintaining a life on the island, the next task becomes obvious: Exploring the caves of the Peninsula and discovering your child’s fate. The game tells its story cryptically and uniquely through the stuff you find in the caves. It’s not necessary to find everything that is story-related to reach the game’s conclusion, but they shine a light on the sinister past of the island you’re traversing. Some equipment, such as a climbing axe and a keycard, is crucial to reaching the endpoint, but most of the stuff you find in the caves is there to make your life easier against the locals. I would be wise to obtain the map and the compass before anything, though. The game actually doesn’t offer much if you’re focused on one thing; thus, your best bet would be building, surviving, and going after the story-related content simultaneously. Its mysterious and dangerous vibe is enough to keep you hooked, though. It also has co-op, and I’d strongly recommend bringing in a friend since it gets quite scary on your own.
TL;DR
A great survival horror game that doesn’t rely on cheap tricks and tells its story in a unique way. With online co-op, it gets a bit easier to survive and explore the creepy caves of the cannibalistic mutant-filled island of Peninsula!
One of the best survival games of all time
The Forest is definitely one of the best games of its genre, the gameplay mechanics are great, with the catchy atmosphere and its beautiful environments this has become such a super fun game to experience, both while playing solo or with friends, although I recommend playing with friends for the maximum enjoyment. It also has an interesting lore that makes you want to search for clues in the game to find out what's really behind its mysterious story.
The caves are very well-made and are the best parts of this game, where you can find almost all the important items you need throughout the game, it's such a nice adventure exploring them and getting different types of weapons and key items. Also the building gives you lots of options to make your desired shelter to keep yourself safe from the cannibals, and decorate it to your taste.
Sometimes this game can be glitchy at random areas and has some minor bugs but nothing game breaking. It can be really hard at first if you have no experience in survival games, but after a short while you'll learn it and realize that it's actually easy and sweet. Definitely recommend this game whether or not you're a fan of this genre.
I Have completed this game twice and enjoyed it.
The open world concept is interesting, it uses survival mechanics with looting and crafting. Exploring areas while being attacked made the game-play fun and cooperative while having an entertaining experience. Exploring the world of i have been collecting all the achievements giving me a fulfilment of accomplishment.
Building bases is an interesting aspect until you get far in the game and no matter what you do , your base will be destroyed very quickly and all the hours you spend scavenging will feel wasted. You can say it adds a layer of depth that keeps things fresh and exciting, but is that depth or just in-balance?
The game is not story driven it lacks engagement and understanding of what happened. But this is the case for all survival games. No story = Loot, Kill, Gather, Craft, Explore.
While i do not have any will to replay this game a 3rd time. I do recommend this game.
Decent game for it's price - 20-25 hours of game-play.
When I started The Forest, I was so very excited but by the end I was a little frustrated and disappointed.
I really enjoyed the plot. Finding notes/pictures/videos helped my imagination go wild with what is/was going on. They give you just enough plot points to keep you hungry for more without spelling everything out for you. It escalates a bit quickly at the end, but that might be because I was rushing to be done by then.
Combat is a little basic and sometimes frustrating. Which follows, since your character is an experienced survivalist and not an experienced fighter.
The building/survival mechanics are solid. Survival isn't annoyingly difficult if you don't want it to be. The building wasn't bad either, but by the end of the game I realized I didn't even bother with most of the building options that there were. I'm a fan of smaller discreet bases, but if you want to construct a massive compound then you can do that too.
Exploring the caves is part exciting and part annoying. At first it was great searching and finding things, but eventually I used the online interactive map to make sure I hadn't missed anything in the areas I found because it is DARK down there.
One of my largest frustrations came from the thing that killed me the most: If you pause the game while hanging from a rope, when you unpause you will let go of the rope. Hopefully you're close to the ground or above water, otherwise you're dead. And since i'm a moron I kept pausing on a rope without thinking.
A save point right before the final boss would have been nice, or make the cutscenes skippable. They were nice the first time but not the 3rd or 4th time in a row. From reading online, it seems that most people didn't have trouble killing the boss the first time. So apparently i was just bad at it.
One final thing: I feel like they really missed a step by having the snow biome so barren. I was very excited when I finally got my warm suit, but the only thing up there is the flare gun. It wasn't really worth it. Most of the map beyond a certain point north just isn't worth exploring and just feels empty.
Overall a good game with some frustrating aspects that's aren't enough to ruin it. It is slightly annoying that this is the final product and those issues still exist. I'm looking forward to checking out the sequel Sons of the Forest, but i'm going to do a lot more research about it's bugs before I do.
What makes this game scary isn’t the cannibals or the mutants...it’s the creepy silence. There’s no background music at all. Just your footsteps, animals, and the screams of enemies in the middle of the night. It honestly gave me chills. Every time I went out to gather resources, I was like, “Okay, who’s watching me now?” I couldn’t stop checking behind me, it was that creepy.
One more thing I gotta say is the cannibals in this game are straight-up savage. Every damn corpse I find is just…brutally fcked up. I honestly can’t even imagine what their faces looked like while they were killing these people. Gotta give mad props to THE DEVS though, they really nailed it. I still can’t get used to seeing dead bodies in a game.
It’s one of the most fun survival games I’ve played. Even though I played with my BRO, it’s still scary as hell. The game is kinda realistic and not at the same time. It’s real enough to make you feel paranoid, and weird enough to have you laughing your ass off with your friends. Chopping wood in this game is sooo fun. I absolutely love it.
amazing story, amazing mechanics, amazing everything, i am very happy its multiplayer. Its a super game very fun very good building i love it so much, the stroy is a bit confsuing at first but otherwise its really fun.
THE FOREST – The Greatest Game I've Ever Played
If I had to choose one game that has completely reshaped the way I see gaming—The Forest would be it. I’ve played dozens of titles across genres, but nothing comes close to the raw intensity, emotional depth, and sheer thrill that this game delivers. It’s not just a game. It’s a test of will, instinct, and creativity.
Final Verdict:
If you’ve never played Survival Games, you’re missing out on one of the most authentic, challenging, and rewarding experiences gaming has to offer. For me, it's not just the best survival game—it's the greatest game I've ever played, period.
Good:
It is coop.
The enemies have cool designs.
For the first few hours, you don't notice the game is bad.
Bad:
Every enemy can be cheesed easily. jump on a rock. They can't hit you. Even the final boss was easily cheesed.
When combat is not just cheesing an enemy safely from a rock, you just stun-lock them with spam clicks
Resources mean nothing when you get full hunger and thirst from infinitely spawning berry bushes.
This game is butt ugly. This could be seen as a + because your coop partner looks like plastic.
I played the game on hard, so every enemy was also annoying. They all 2 hit you.
exploration was boring as butt. your inventory can hold almost nothing, so you will constantly be full on everything.
Each cave only has roughly 1 good item to find. Everything else is useless.
All of the caves feel more or less the same except for 1.
The game is riddled with bugs, Graphical bugs, AI bugs, and bugs that require a full game reset.
The building is clunky and useless.
Inventory is cluttered and confusing to even find basic items.
How is this game overwhelmingly positive?
It is a fun game with ups and downs. The combat is enjoyable when you're watching your friend get eaten by cannibals, but it is not enjoyable when its your turn. 90% of the game I was risking my life to save another mans child. Timmy was a complete stranger to me after death #1. Also, it was never worth it building a shelter, when I could get the same benefit from a pile of leaves and twigs and cannibals break your walls down in 3 swings anyway. But at the end of the day, it's always chill to share a nice leg around a warm fire.
It's pretty fun to play and explore the island and fight all the creatures that live there.
cult classic horror survival game, would recommend to anybody interested in horror
nothing but love for this game and the company this game is great second game sons of the forest is also amazing 10/10
short but fun to explore caves with friends
The Forest came into my life at the hardest time.
My father, who had always been my rock, had passed away unexpectedly, and I didn’t know how to handle it.
I found myself drawn to the game, a survival horror where you crash on a mysterious island filled with danger, desperate to stay alive and find your son.
The isolation in The Forest mirrored my own sense of loss.
I was all alone, just like the protagonist.
Every step forward felt like a fight to keep going, just like I felt after my father’s death.
The world around me was chaotic, brutal, and unforgiving, much like the grief I was facing.
But as I built, crafted, and explored, I found a small sense of hope.
It was a world where survival was everything, but there were moments of beauty.
I realized that even in the darkest times, we keep going — not because we have to, but because we want to.
The Forest became a place where I could work through my pain, brick by brick, and maybe find my way back to the person I used to be.
Even though this game is coming up on its 7th year anniversary, it is just as enjoyable as when it first released! Brilliant game.
Really fun survival game. Cannibals are challenging yet fun to fight and the atmosphere is really great. You will never have a horror experience like exploring a dark cave with a bic lighter while hearing screams in the distance.
Didn't really play the game but I like to watch my friends play it.
6/10
The game is atmospheric when playing alone and fun with friends.
If you want a 'survive against monsters and the environment with a little bit of story thrown in', then this is a great game. It checks all those boxes well and is entertaining while doing so. The game feels well rounded, finished (if a bit small), and is engaging. It's creepy when it wants to be and the combat is interesting and varied, unlike many other survival games I've played where it is very simple and quickly grows stale.
However, if you want a 'base/house/city/engineering building game with some survival elements that stays fresh for hundreds of hours', then this game is a little short. You can build a base, but the game really doesn't want or need you to spend much time on it. You can very likely finish the entire game without ever building anything. There are tools to build some basic structures that work well and help make the game easier, but they are pretty basic structures from a pre-made list without any customization. There are options for more customized structures but they can be quite maddening to utilize. There are no instructions on how these structures work and if you do it wrong, you lose all the resources involved in the construction. I have build megastructues that take around 800 logs in a single blueprint only to find that the game won't let me put a door on it or that it blocks a zipline by a half inch. The game does not provide a way to fix this, to adjust already build structures, or to retrieve building materials. If you use the hole cutter to make a window or a hatch, you can't fill it back up again without rebuilding the entire structure. There's a cheat code to fill every hole you've ever made, but even it doesn't always work, so save often. I have spent days building structures that then don't allow me to use them as I intended but there is no way to know if you can use them in that way until you build them, which is extremely frustrating. The game is also very mod un-friendly so there's little opportunity to fix some of these frustrating 'features'.
So it very much depends on what you want to do. I was obviously really hoping for the 2nd option and I've been pretty disappointed. But that said, I had a lot of fun with the 1st option, which is clearly what the game creators intended. Just make sure that's what you want, and you should be pretty pleased.
i actually have never finished this game because i always played co-op with online friends that i stopped being friends with before we got to the end. the game is pretty buggy and very repetitive to where you're just sitting there bored and grinding for the same items over and over but it's easy because once you enter/leave a cave everything instantly responds so you can stock up on resources way too easily. it's fun to build with cheats on and make cute builds with friends and seeing what we can build together like it's minecraft creative. other than that i don't recommend this game, sons of the forest is slightly better but you can find better games out there. my overall rating for this is a 5/10.
“We crashed our plane and now we eat lizards.”
The Forest is a game where you wake up in the woods after a plane crash, and your first instinct is to grab an axe, build a log cabin, and question your life choices as cannibals scream at you from the treetops.
It starts off chill. You chop trees, eat berries, maybe pet a turtle. Then night falls, and suddenly you’re defending your stick fort with a flaming skull mace, wearing lizard armor, while feral mutants moonwalk toward you in the dark.
Crafting system? Amazing.
Storyline? Actually way deeper than expected.
Cannibals? Olympic-level sprinters who will scream in your face, break your walls, and then run off giggling.
Multiplayer? Absolute chaos. Nothing says “friendship” like screaming over voice chat while your buddy accidentally sets the house on fire with a molotov.
9/10. Built a gazebo. Lost my son. Worth it.
The Forest drops you into a beautiful yet terrifying wilderness where the locals aren't exactly welcoming (think cannibalistic mutants with a serious personal space issue). Crafting and survival are key, but let's be honest, most of your time will be spent screaming and desperately trying not to become someone's dinner. If you enjoy being constantly on edge and occasionally building elaborate tree forts that ultimately fail to protect you, this game is a wild ride.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. Its open world design and survival mechanics, combined with the zombie combat elements, make for an incredibly engaging and entertaining experience. Exploring the vast world, uncovering hidden caves, and collecting all the achievements added a great sense of accomplishment and discovery.
One of the standout aspects is the freedom it offers in terms of gameplay. Building bases, scavenging for supplies, and surviving alongside friends adds a layer of depth that keeps things fresh and exciting.
However, the story leaves much to be desired. While I won’t go into spoilers, the narrative feels underwhelming, especially with its multiple endings. It lacks the impact and cohesion I was hoping for.
That said, this game is far from being a bad title. While it may not be the best game I’ve ever played, it’s definitely one I’d recommend particularly for fans of open world survival games with cooperative multiplayer. If you enjoy zombie themed gameplay, exploration, and base building, this one is well worth your time.
I can build a whole fortress in this game, but still can't even build a doghouse irl.
epic lore, great adventure, realistic survival, great game to play with friend.
I think it is a very good game to play with your friends, you need to discover each cave without the help of map.
The mutants ruin it for me. If it was just cannibals/tribals, and building was less grindy in single player, I'd like it.
great horror game and unlike sons of the forest the devs actually finished this one

good game a bit scary at times but with the right friends its a very good game
The Forest is nothing short of a masterpiece! From the moment you step into the game, you're immersed in a beautifully crafted world filled with mystery, danger, and adventure. The open-world survival mechanics are engaging and rewarding—gathering resources, building shelters, and surviving the wild feels incredibly satisfying. The atmosphere is tense and immersive, with the chilling sounds of the forest keeping you on edge.
The AI and enemy design are top-notch, and the constant feeling of unease makes every moment in the game exciting. Multiplayer is a blast with friends, and there’s always something new to explore. The way the game balances exploration, combat, and crafting is perfect!
If you're a fan of survival games, this is a must-play. 10/10 would recommend!
Very nice game for 1.5 euro realistic graphics and good gameplay
I can't understand how this has so good reviews. Glitchy, buggy and really not fun and rather boring.
Also crashes every time I exit the game.
This is a great way for not paying CHILD Support... no wonder people like this game
Not a bad game at all, but kind of disappointing.
Building seems like a very important feature at first, but is practically irrelevant, as one doesn't even need to build a base in order to complete the game. In addition, building is an extremely grindy task, as the amount of materials needed to build walls and large structures is massive and takes a lot of time to get.
Also, I think the whole cave exploring part is very repetitive and ''Easy'' if one exploits certain tools and mechanics.
Finally, the game is quite mediocre story-wise, even though it has a great atmosphere with the whole cannibal and religious simbolism, it doesn't really explain anything to the player, and is quite hard to follow without videos or other explanations outside of the game,
I wouldn't call the game bad, but I felt lost most of the time I played the game, since most things are rather obscure, and I just didn't have the energy or time to actually learn the intricacies of the game, probably since I didn't enjoy it much.
Initially on my first play through, this game seemed like anything but a survival open world crafting game, especially after playing games like Valheim and 7 Days to Die.
It is open world, but it's the same map no matter what, same seed, same locations, same caves, which I thought was really bad for a survival game. The reason for this is probably because this game has a story. When you start the game there is no sense of direction or what to do. I was very confused for this reason and ended up at the "end game" location without knowing it. I also thought trees didn't regrow, but I was wrong about that.
I tried giving the game another chance 2 years later and this time I focused on taking it easy, explore every corner, read the clues and the notes to figure out what to do and what I need, and it ended up being a very interesting game. I really enjoyed the "mysteriousness" of the game that I initially hated, exploring the caves one by one finding new gear and clues to complete the story. Building a base, and the constant fear of getting raided by cannibals. The enemies progressively become stronger the longer you play the game. At the end of the day, it's still a pretty linear game since you need to explore the caves in a specific order, but that's something you need to figure out yourself so there's still some freedom in the game. As for the story, it didn't interest me that much, I only really enjoyed exploration, building, crafting, and surviving, planning my next steps. It can be a fun game but don't expect it to be a traditional survival game, and expect it to be linear.
one of the survival games that is suitable to play with friends, very exciting and challenging
A decent survival game, with plenty of elements that are hard to digest.. literally... Apart from that, I can vouch for the game to give you a nice eerie feel, and plenty of scare potential here and there. Glitches and bugs are plenty, but still the game is worth playing, especially with a friend. The co-op mode is pretty cool, and honestly the only way to play the game in my opinion.
After mandatory 10min in the main menu to listen to the music, create a save and spend hours chilling in the forest, meeting some locals along the way. Oh and there is your son you are supposed to find, but that's not very important.
For me it's still one of the best survival horror games out there.
10/10
The Forest is a gripping survival horror game that blends intense exploration, resource management, and psychological terror. Stranded in a mysterious forest, players must craft, build, and fight off intelligent cannibalistic mutants. The eerie atmosphere, realistic visuals, and immersive sound design heighten the tension, especially at night. Solo play feels terrifying, while co-op adds strategy and fun. With its unpredictable AI and deep survival mechanics, The Forest offers a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

6. Strengths:
Tense and frightening atmosphere

Conclusion:
The Forest is a captivating and immersive survival game for fans of the genre, with a unique atmosphere, complex gameplay, and constant challenges. If you enjoy games where you need to think strategically, explore, and face terrifying enemies, The Forest is definitely worth trying. Whether you play solo or with friends, the game offers a unique experience, though it can sometimes feel overwhelming.
One of the best survival games I ever played, this game was worth every penny, and it became one of my instant classics. I recommend this survival horror game to anyone.
Even though the game is a bit janky, it is fun, especially with others. It is a must play for anyone who enjoys survival type games.
Você é a extinção ambulante.
10/10
I like the graphics and how you can make items and the thrill of having to go against other creatures on a island to survive. The sounds are definetly one to remember LOL. I would recommend this game if you want to go against things that will scare you and it is best played not alone.
