Way too complicated. A lot of the puzzles make no sense. Didn't even bother to finish the game. Hated that we had to use a guide for quite a few of the puzzles.
We Were Here Together is a complicated game to review. It is more ambitious than its previous entries — it's longer, has more difficult puzzles, and finally lets you and your partner be together for some parts of the game. But it also makes some puzzles obscure enough that you either have to grab pen and paper to sketch it out, or look up a guide because you just don't get it to begin with.
The core co-op escape room concept is still rock solid. You and your partner must communicate constantly to solve asymmetrical puzzles, often while stuck in entirely different rooms. The puzzles range from clever and satisfying to borderline nonsense. A few puzzles repeat ideas from earlier games, which is a bit of a letdown, and there are definitely moments where you'll stare at the screen going, "what is this even asking me to do?" Still, most of them are solvable with persistence and teamwork.
There's clearly supposed to be a deeper story this time around — something about a jester, experiments, and betrayal — but it's not clearly spelled out. Perhaps this is meant to be solved by future games, or perhaps the developers didn't fully consider how to tell their story yet. A few bugs still linger, and while the devs made the game longer and more complex, sometimes it feels like they confused "difficult" with "vague."
We finished the game in about 9.5 hour, including all achievements. Each player gets a unique view and cutscenes, making a second playthrough genuinely worthwhile, as is the case with the other games. Just, bring a communicative friend, fun, and maybe, just maybe, a notebook or even a guide. Just in case.
This game was incredibly disorienting and the puzzles at times felt like they weren't fully functional, or at least provided a lot of cluttered information that made otherwise succinct puzzles take much longer. Bleh. Just bleh.
These games are brilliant if the person you are playing with is also brilliant. We had a right laugh playing this game, calling objects and shapes all sorts of things in an effort to communicate.
The game itself it's good, it became a little more cartoonish, puzzle quality it's pretty good overall, but some really fell, Ended the game in a bad note .
The We Were Here series is amazing and I recommend it to everyone.
This game is the third in the series, but was the first game my friend and I had to stop and come back to later as it's rather long and has some slow parts.
Incredibly confusing. Long load times for the in game videos. Very repetitive sounds on a loop. It does not auto save. So when you come back to the game to have to redo some parts. It's not a split screen so you have no idea what the other person is doing which makes things more difficult and chaotic especially when you are in the same room as the other player and need to keep looking at their screen. It took us 2 hours and we couldn't even get though the 2nd area. This is not well written. There are no hints. We even looked up the walk throughs and they weren't very helpful either because they didn't even know what they were doing. We ended up giving up because it was too frustrating. 0/10 would NOT recommend.
Out of all the "we were here" games, this one has got to be the least creative and most frustrating to play. Feels like the devs were just running out of ideas and making puzzles even more complex. You and your friend need to be 100% on communication, you also need google sometimes.
Bit too challenging for the lack of story line, I really wanted to like it.
The first few puzzles were really fun, challenging and solvable, but the rest became increasingly annoying and not intuitive to solve, which made the game feel like a chore.
Its obviously not as good as a Hazelight Studios game but its cheap fun for a few hours and longer than the previous part.
The puzzles are a bit extreme sometimes and you often have to first figure out what to do.
It oftentimes doesnt make any sense. Still, we had mostly fun playing.
really fun puzzle game. had me and my friend stumped for hours sometimes.
Hardest puzzle in this game is finding a friend to play with
Overall, We Were Here Together is another great two-player puzzle game that requires a lot of communication, similar to other games in the series. I really appreciate the addition of cutscenes with VO, which added more story to the game. While I did enjoy this game, my one big gripe is that some of the puzzles have you do a very similar thing many times over. I feel that once the player understands what they need to do, doing it shouldn't take too long, but it felt like some of these puzzles were expanded just to add play time. To be clear, adding wrinkles to a puzzle is fine, but just having the player do the same thing multiple times to make the game longer isn't adding fun.
We were here together
pros
✧ the only time im a bigger brain than my bf
cons
✧ IM SO CONFUSED
- Too short (suddenly it was just over)
- Puzzles either too easy, monotonous or almost illogical
- Bad "story"
Stuck on a puzzle for 20 minutes and wife convinced me there was nothing she could interact with. Guess what immediately happened when I walked downstairs to her computer and took a look for myself.
I played the original We Were Here with my friend and somehow I was able to finish it without encountering any bugs, the second time I played it with someone else, a game-breaking bug hindered our journey and we couldn't finish the game. Now I started playing this game with a different friend for the first time and it works well for the first few chapters until we get to the one with the tesla coils. These bum developers have had a bug (since 2019 from what I could find) where one of the fuses that you NEED to finish the puzzle doesn't exist. After failing this TIMED challenge multiple times, unable to figure out what the game is wanting to do, we find out about this little bug and see people who have talked to the developers on discord who have said they know about the bugs and they don't do anything about them.
So in conclusion, these complete tools knowingly made buggy game after buggy game, refusing to go back and fix them so people can actually enjoy the products they purchased, all so they can continue to focus on making more slop that doesn't work so they can churn a couple more bucks out of whoever, like me, didn't realize these guys are total POS, ripoff, scam artist, snake oil salesmen developers
I'm gonna spread the word to anyone that will listen that they should not purchase any games from these bums
As all of the games of the series, it is an enjoyable game. However, We Were Here Too had much better puzzle designs. Still, most of the puzzles are great, while being original and playing the game at the other side feels great.
this is quite a bit longer than the first two games and some puzzles are not as easy
Great game, does a great job of testing our communication skills.
Some riddles are dumb, me and my friend found the first 2 games more enjoyable.
This game is not bad at all, but we met several bugs, which didn't allow us move forward. It solved by restarting mission, but my save file was crashed on the last quest. 10/10
this is good, grab a friend and play through it. will test communication and teamwork (does not get infuriating)
Some of the puzzles were enjoyable, unfortunately they were outweighed by the bad ones. Combine that with the fact that we encountered a bug where certain aspects of a puzzle did not spawn and we were left wandering around trying to find a solution that didn't exist for 45 minutes before giving up and discovering the bug.
This game is broken in many ways including breaking so the puzzle was unsolvable, making me and a friend get stuck on a level for 45 minutes. There are probably two enjoyable puzzles with enough difficulty and the others are either incredibly one sided or simple as putting the square shape in the square shape hole. The story is incredibly bland and at this point played out terribly for a climax. Do not buy!
TL:DR : Great game. You should play, bring a pal.
Complete review:
I think I've said enough in my other reviews, this is a great game and I couldn't possibly recommend it enough. If you have a buddy you NEED to play this game together, and even if you don't have someone to play with you could always join the Discord server and make a new friend there. This is the third game in the series and is EVEN BETTER than the previous two and I can only imagine and hope that the next game surpasses this one in quality and content. There's not much to complain about, the puzzles are simple enough to understand pretty easily but also challenging, good work there. But, some clues aren't very clear and are a little confusing yes I agree that better communication can make it more straightforward and that is a challenge for you and your buddy to learn how to work around but the game could have given some better clues, that said is nothing that is going to ruin your experience, the frustration and the yelling lol actually creates a fun and cute moment after the conclusion of the puzzle where you and your friend will share a good laugh so I don't even mind the confusing clues anymore.
Also just a little peeve of mine, nothing that diminishes your experience... But da** Total Mayhem. You guys could've hiden so many secrets in this game, little easter eggs, secret rooms maybe even secret puzzles for secret achievements :(
Good game, had a lot of fun, worth the money
this switches it up enough to make it more fun, it's nice actually being together via gameplay before the separation and the puzzles here range from easy & quick to "ex-fucking-cuse me?" which is pretty in-line for this series.
definitely not worth $13 but it's a fun time.
The atmosphere is immersive, the puzzles are challenging but rewarding, and teamwork is key. A must-play for those who love solving mysteries with a friend!
Partner and I are slowly but surely are 100%-ing our way through the whole series and this one was, like the two before, just a fantastic time for the two of us and is the nicest co-op experiences we've had yet.
This part takes some very nice elements from the last game especially and includes them here in a slightly different way – expanding on them in a way that is satisfying to figure out even tho it's a similar puzzle as having solved in an old level.
It offers also some more storytelling than the last two, it's engaging and has a nice feel to it.While the game is mainly about solving puzzles, the mystery and story-line that unfolds with it is very captivating and we're excited to see in which direction this story continues in the next games.
Overall, We Were Here Together is a great addition to the series and it offered us some unforgettable co-op experiences that we are treasuring already. Partner and I were hooked from start to finish and while she and I continue our journey we will keep obsessing over the playable characters and every pieces of story-line we can find in the games.
The game is amazing for couples.
It requires thoroughness but encourages detailed communication.
Give the game patience, and it will reward you with a great experience.
We played the whole series of games (macOS compatible), and the ending of this one hits hard. I had goosebumps, and we even shed a tear.
The music is amazing and creates a fantastic atmosphere.
I hope more people have such a pleasurable gameplay experience with their significant other as I did.
Big thumbs up!
The game can be played from two different perspectives, allowing you to comfortably enjoy it twice!
9/10
Couldn't solve one potion without guidance because of misreading C and L late in night.
Vlastně jsme od toho čekali něco jako It takes two a dostali jsme něco úplně jiného.
Na začátku začínáte jako polárnící, ale pak se to nějak zvrtne a vlastně to nedává ani smysl. Po příběhové stránce, ani po stránce zábavnosti levelů, to stojí celkem za prd.
This is the 3rd game in the franchise and while there have been some improvements they still have failed to implement a decent save system. We are currently at stage 7 which is comprised of at least 3 puzzles, with the first 2 taking 5 to 10 minutes to complete each, however when you complete either of them, if the game crashes (which it has 3 times now) after you've completed the first 2 sections? Tough luck. Puzzles are rewarding when you figure them out, and given their design even if you already know how to solve them in theory it still takes trial and error to get it right, so if the game crashes after finishing 2 puzzles, basically fuck you lets waste another 20 minutes of your time to get back to where you were and hope it doesnt' happen again. We endured this twice, and on the third attempt while solving the 3rd puzzle the games servers disconnected and softlocked our progress as I was sending the cart to my partner who's client never got it when it reconnected, meaning if we want to attempt to progress we would have now wasted an hour of our time. We are playing in the same house on the same LAN, it makes no sense to need stable serverside connections for this, and even without that, why can we not just have a save file we can access like any other game developed in the last 20 years? It's infuriating.
We Were Here Together takes the core elements of the series and expands them into one of the most satisfying co-op experiences out there. As a fan of the previous games, I was eager to jump into this one. The game builds on the formula that worked so well in earlier installments but offers a fresh experience with new mechanics and environments that keep things exciting.
The story is engaging and adds a nice layer of immersion to the game. It’s not just about solving puzzles, there’s an actual mystery that unfolds as you progress, which adds a lot of excitement and motivation to keep playing. The visuals are stunning, with beautiful, atmospheric environments.
Overall, We Were Here Together is a fantastic entry in the series. Whether you’re new to the franchise or a longtime fan, this game offers an unforgettable co-op experience that will keep you and your partner hooked from start to finish.
I‘m a fan of this series for years, must say that this is the most annoying one so far. I don't mean that i don't like this game, but i can not enjoy playing this game at all because of the puzzles. It took us so much time not to figure out what we should do, but to solve the puzzles - you know the goal exactly but you just need like 1 h or even 2 to reach it. The puzzles themselves aren't actually difficult—they just test your patience.
On top of that, there are often very hidden paths. If you can't find them, you'll be stuck going in circles, unable to progress, without even knowing what the problem is.
We were here is absolutely brilliant. This game blew my mind with its perfect mix of teamwork, puzzles and mystery. The concept of two players being separated in a creepy castle, relying on each other to solve complex puzzles, is pure genius. Its one of those games that constantly surprises you with its creativity and depth. Is a masterpiece. Strongly recommend!
Fckass teamate is a dipsht cant fucking describe whats in front of him to save his shit life
game was good ig but fuck you McCloy.
mf abt as capable as a brick wall
This game made me realise that my partner and I have zero synergy in escaping life and death situations. 10/10
(There are some bugs in this game though which hindered us from completing some stages and we were forced to restart the chapter.)
The start is really nice. The puzzles make sense and the atmosphere is great.
But the further you go, the more abstract the puzzles get and the atmosphere becomes blander and blander.
They also get less satisfying, sometimes requiring pretty random "non-logic" to figure out.
At some point, when we got stuck, we started checking the answers to puzzles online.
Maybe we're just bad at puzzle games.
Maybe the developers are veterans and they make games also for puzzle game veterans.
I didn't get that interested in the story either.
Without spoilers - it was nice and simple in the start and then turned into something pretty generic.
The game is also full of different types of bugs and performance issues.
Screen tearing, badly implemented voice chat, settings that don't do anything when changed because they are bugged. Some sound effects are way too loud and you cannot lower them, because the settings don't work. Seemingly random disconnects.
I also played on 2 different computers, so it's unlikely that is was my hardware's fault.
Maybe it got worse as time moved on, because the developers don't patch the game anymore (understandable, because it was released a few years back, but it's more of a problem with online games than singleplayer).
I think that's why many of the reviews are more positive than they would be today.
Amazing game! A puzzle and co-op game? Count me in! I don't remember how I stumbled across this game but I am so glad that I did. I love a brain teaser plus you get to work on your communication skills by having to describe/explain things. Solid 10/10. Will go back and play the first game and then all the ones after that.
Love these games and will buy the new one when it comes out.
Fun game with cool puzzles that require good communication skills. I played it with a friend, and it took about 8 hours for each of us to finish both sides and get all of the Steam achievements. We did encounter a game-breaking bug that forced a restart. Thankfully, the game lets you resume from any chapter, so we didn't have to start over from the beginning. Some of the puzzles can be a bit tricky; we were able to solve most of them, but we had to look up a guide a couple of times. Overall, this was a fun experience and I would recommend it, especially if you can get it on sale.
great game!
sucks about the mic issues
story and puzzels are very entertaining!
Having fun sorting out the puzzles with my cousin!
still good, but we had a long break before coming back to it. Some puzzles unclear towards the end.
I remember We Were Here and We Were Here Too being a smoother puzzle experience (but much jankier networking)
Chapter 10 is bugged. Can't load into it, so it makes us repeat Chapter 9 every time, meaning we can't finish the game.
the saddest thing is the ending but it is so good
This game could be interesting, but bugs, confusing riddle ruined it. We struggled with 3 levels for some time only to find out on Reddit that the game is bugged.
Next are some minor spoilers for a level, so read if you want. So, on the level with 3 paintings and where you needed to match things in the rooms , we walked for an hour to understand what we needed to do and then we looked up some info and found out that our level was completely broken. And what do you think? Level worked after restart. And such situation was with 3 different levels!
So, if you like this series, you can play it, because it offers some interesting levels, but personally it is the worst game of this series
