Solid little puzzle game.
OneShift is a poorly made 3D rendered low poly minimalist top down/ISO view platformer where the object of the game is to get to the exit for each level... but of course you need to jump and work around the time manipulation gimmick to solve some of the puzzles and get to the exit.
I'm not completely sure but I think many of the character models in this game might be asset flipped, and if they are, it's not a surprise because it seems the developer here is a bit of a shady copyright infringer, but more on that later.
On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers.
The game features lazy minimalist/untextured low-polygon "retro" assets and visuals, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the early 1990s. The lack of textures is a method that lazy devs often use to disguise their lack of talent/interest in doing the graphics properly and trying to disguise it under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the game. It looks bad as a result of their decisions, and that's just another reason to avoid it.
The controls are also really awkward, this looks like it might have been designed for consoles. The top down/ISO view doesn't work well with KB+M which is why so few PC games use it (and we have thousands of FP view games to demonstrate just how great KB+M is on PC). No real reason for the poor choice of camera angles here except that it would look even worse from a first person perspective, I suppose. Anyway, the game sucks to play because of the poor control scheme.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Here's the real doozy. The game contains stock sounds from Freesounds, but the "developer" here hasn't credited the people who actually did the work for the game. In some cases this breaches the license agreement the developer signed for the use of those assets. Worse, some of the assets are licensed under a NON-COMMERCIAL AGREEMENT, but the developer is violating those licenses FOR PROFIT. Many of the sound assets explicitly cannot be used in paid products! This is not just a contractual/license breach, in many jurisdictions this is a breach of criminal law. Claiming credit for the work of others as well as breaching software licenses and breaking the law is highly unethical.
The most hilarious part of this is when you go into the game credits (I did to make sure the developer properly credited the sound assets that legally require it, and yeah, he didn't), the credits include an anti-piracy warning. What a joke. The developer doesn't want us breaching copyright law for a game that he made by breaching copyright law.
So, should you buy this game?
OneShift has the preposterous price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.
The game is good, but the movement is not
cool and interesting puzzle game. presents a unique take on the genre
Just a clean and simple puzzley platformer.
Fun puzzles, addictive gameplay, and cool music.
Good
Kinda too easy
This is a super fun game! I absolutely love the puzzles and recommend it for people to try out!
Great game. I'm about 60% finished and love it so far.
Fun puzzle game that gets challenging and interesting new ways to solve it. Also cheap, worth full price.
This game borrows from a lot of other games and you would think thats a bad thing but NO,Oneshift puts all of these elements into a fun and moderatly challenging puzzle platformer that is strangley addictive.Really good game.
Bravo momci :) !
Euuggh.... well, I think the core concept here is neat and there are occasionally interesting things done with it but the level design is... very consistently not good. The game is pretty fine up until the point where you are able to turn the levels, at which point the level design stops being remotely tight and occasionally is just borderline unfair - case in point, look at the difference in people who have cleared up to level 71 vs have cleared 72 through 80. 72 is... almost impossible, the level ends with an almost entirely luck-based jump to clear the level. And as well there are a few near-pixel-perfect jumps in some of the bonus levels which shows a general lack of playtesting. And at no point does it feel like the game is especially clever, or especially fun... it has moments of being passable and for the most part isn't unfun, but I came away from it feeling like my time and energy had been wasted and that's really not a good feeling. The constant pausing also doesn't help for the flow of the game. The graphics are nice and the music is nice, I guess, but overall I don't feel too great about having played this game, as short as it is. Also, there's way, way too many achievements, one for clearing every level alongside a bunch of random stuff that you're gonna do while playing the game anyways. If you're really desperate for a vaguely puzzlish platformer and it's on sale I guess give it a go but otherwise skip this one imo.
Pretty fun game with challenging puzzles and great design and graphics.
