It's portal. You've got a portal gun, do puzzles. It's a very simple game and timeless because of that. Great game
great game from valves, it was a very complex project, the company literally conquered virtual physics, very incredible gameplay, the secret of this laboratory and what happened there still remains a mystery, the plot of the first part is very simple and short, but at that time it was a revolution, still a relevant game in the world
10/10 cubes with hearts

Short great somewhat scary story-line. Its one of the best puzzle type game of played, makes you actually use your brain sometimes overall very unique 10/10
It is old game, but it is still good.
Finally valve thanks for Portal Full Cake after First Slice
Fun Game, with a nice story. I wonder if theres another game like this? perhaps a second game?
I don't know what to say. It's just good game. Fun mechanics and puzzles for people who don't play puzzles and interesting and misterious story that I wish I could see more of.
I practially know the whole story of Portal series but what happened after Portal 2? I guess We will never know but It would be perfect to see Gordon with Chell together.
Best puzzle game ever besides portal 2. all the puzzles are challenging but easy and i love them all. would recommend to anyone.
Short, but interesting puzzle game. Really encourages you to think outside of the weighted companion cube.
NOTE: At the time of writing this I have completed the full main quest of Portal.
If you like puzzle, valve or chill games this game is great for you. Highly recommended.
Portal isn’t just a game—it’s an experience. A life-altering emotional rollercoaster that asks: What if you fell in love with a sadistic AI who only wanted you dead... or did she? I laughed. I cried. I questioned physics. I questioned myself.
You play as Chell, a mute parkour scientist who wakes up in IKEA’s underground testing facility and is forced to complete increasingly dangerous puzzles by GLaDOS, a sarcastic robot voice who may or may not be your soulmate. The chemistry between Chell and GLaDOS is electric. You can feel the romantic tension in every turret ambush and passive-aggressive comment.
At first, GLaDOS seems evil—she locks you in a room and tries to kill you with neurotoxin. Classic meet-cute. But as the game progresses, their relationship blossoms. There's subtlety here: the way GLaDOS lies to you, taunts you, builds test chambers specifically to watch you suffer... it’s basically foreplay. I genuinely gasped during the plot twist when she admitted, “This was a triumph.” Poetry.
The gameplay? Flawless. You shoot blue and orange portals onto walls to navigate the facility and solve puzzles. It’s like interdimensional hopscotch meets The Bachelor. Every puzzle is a metaphor for Chell and GLaDOS’s increasingly complicated relationship. One level literally forces you to abandon your only friend, a weighted cube—symbolizing how love requires sacrifice.
Let’s talk about the writing. Portal’s script is a masterclass in romantic tension disguised as sarcastic AI quips. GLaDOS's lines range from "You're not a good person, you know that, right?" to “I feel sorry for you”—which, in robot love language, basically means I yearn for you across circuits and time.
And of course, the ending. That iconic song, “Still Alive,” is not just a banger—it's a breakup ballad. She’s not angry. Just disappointed. She wanted it to work. But Chell needed freedom, and GLaDOS needed... therapy.
In conclusion, Portal is the greatest romantic puzzle-platformer of all time. Some people think it’s just a game about portals and physics, but those people clearly weren’t paying attention to the love story. GLaDOS didn’t try to kill you because she hated you. She did it because she didn’t know how to feel.
And honestly? Same.
A space bending classic.
Made by Valve themselves, and showcasing the capabilities of the Source Engine; Portal takes the player into a laberynthic adventure, deep down into the Apperture Science Enrichment Center where they'll have to solve puzzles, defy the laws of physics and uncover the mystery behind the cryptic nature of the installations in order to escape the twisted forces that govern over them.
If you like mind bending physics puzzles and mysteries, this game is for you.
It's not as good as Portal 2, but I'm satisfied. A good and short experience
10/8
It's Portal, why are you even reading this? Just go and play the game already. Seriously though, it's the greatest puzzle game I've seen yet (still haven't played Portal 2). Puzzle design aside, the story is also a nice touch featuring GLaDos as a crazy robot that is obsessed with cake all the time.
8.5/10
What can be said about portal that has yet to be said? It's one of the greatest puzzle games I've ever played. It's a concise play-in-an-afternoon masterpiece that despite its length and simplicity has become one of the most iconic games of all time. Every puzzle is satisfying and new, and the storytelling and characters are very well executed and memorable.
If for whatever reason you haven't played portal yet, set aside a few hours to play it in full.
It does go on sale on just about every major steam sale for $1-$3.
This is one of the most fun and creative puzzle games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. The portals are a source of infinite fun that doesn't get old. Also it only took me about 5 hours to beat the main story so its a nice short game to play on a day off. It runs great on Steam Deck.
Very cool game, especially since it's always on sale.
turret said excuse me, glados called me a bunch of slurs, 10/10
Great game; especially fun when you enable the dev console and spawn an airboat.
Great game, story and bonus chambers
Spend 2 hours completing the main game and the rest on achievements and bonus chambers
I've had the Valve Complete Pack for years on Steam but I hadn't actually played many of them aside from the original Half-Life and Counter-Strike Source. Because of this, Portal was a whole new experience for me. I had heard people talk about it, and I knew the general concepts behind it, but I had never even played a hint of it until more recently.
So, how was my first Portal experience?
Puzzles for the non-puzzler
Well, first order of business: what, exactly, is Portal?
Yes, it's a puzzle game, but unlike many puzzle games, this game doesn't expect you to use science/math logic, at least not beyond common sense logic that everyone should have. I always did really well in school but it has been a while and even in spite of that, I hated math (and advanced science); I've never been one to think with cold logic and numbers, I've always been more of a "see the paths ahead of you" sort of guy and I can safely say that Portal is that kind of game.
You are expected to get from one end of the map to the other, and you have to do so by evaluating the layout, knowing how the mechanics work, and sometimes you need good timing as well. A good example of this is a sequence where you have to open a portal on a platform, drop down a deep pit and open a second portal there. This flings you up into the air and while you're mid-air, you want to switch out the pit portal for a new portal on a higher platform. You continue this onward until the end of the sequence, which requires some good timing and continued momentum in addition to the logic.
It also justifies these puzzles with story, stating that you're a test subject for Aperture Science, a company who developed wormhole technology and you're a tester for that tech. This justification is a huge part of what makes Portal compelling to people like me, who usually play games for the story.
Sci-fi intrigue and comedic goofiness
Speaking of the story, this game's plot is actually very interesting, though you wouldn't assume that from looking at it. You start off as the test subject, locked in a doorless cell with a bed, toilet, radio, coffee mug and notepad. This subtle setup does a great job at environmental storytelling, showing you your first hint as to what Aperture Science is like. This, combined with a female robotic voice you'll begin hearing, begins to subtly unravel story about Aperture, your role with them, and the world at large outside of the facility.
It also has loads of environmental storytelling, starting with a few areas where you can go a little outside of the normal testing chamber grounds. In these offset areas, you'll encounter clues that show you that you're not the first subject, and that your precursor(s) may have been fleeing from something. This comes to a head when you reach the end of the test chambers: while that robotic voice is trying to kill you off, you have the opportunity to flee and this ends up taking you through loads of 'unapproved' areas of the Aperture facility.
What's funny is that all of this leads to a real sense of adventure and even a bit of a pulse-pounding adrenaline rush in some segments. All the while, as you're trying to progress, you begin to uncover more and more that really starts to paint a clear picture of what's going on. I won't spoil that, though; all I'll say is that if you're a Valve fan, you're going to like the story of these games.
Timeless art
Despite releasing in 2007, this game still looks fantastic, even without the ray tracing version (a free DLC). The Source Engine still holds up quite well today. It's very difficult to have a realistic, sci-fi art style that doesn't age poorly as graphic tech advances but Portal had no such difficulties. Sure, it doesn't look new, by any means, but it still looks appealing.
I think part of this has to do with the fact that you never see any sort of human characters, aside from brief reflections of your character that you might see if the portals line up just right. Character design tends to age the worst in game graphics, so this worked out great in retrospect. However, the overall art design, color palette and graphics tech work together to give you a very, very good-looking game even in the 2020s.
The funniest thing, though, is how it starts off deceptively monochrome. You see the sterile whites and grays of the test chambers, with a nice, subtle hint of bright blue and orange thanks to the portals you open. However, as the game goes on and you advance beyond the test chambers themselves, you get a really crazy palette shift toward dingy browns, rusty reds and oranges, yellowish lighting and so forth. This shift feels both natural and jarring, which I'm certain was intentional.
All of that comes together to create a game that I'm comfortable saying is still beautiful by today's standards. Oh, and let's not forget the simple elegance of Source Engine GUI design! It worked well in Half-Life 2 but it looks even better here because of the pseudo-utopian corporate aesthetics of the art design.
A classic epitomized
Regardless of whether you're normally a fan of puzzle games, I feel like you really need to give Portal a try. Not only should all of the above be reason enough, but it's also a total classic that I think everyone needs to try at least once.
It's not a puzzle game in the sense of Myst's obtuse difficulty, nor is it a puzzle game in the sense of some cheap puzzle game you'd find in the Walmart electronics section for $3. It's more like a first-person adventure game centered around logic puzzles where it's easy to pick up but a bit more difficult to master.
Besides, with the Orange Box pack and the Valve Complete Pack, you can grab it alongside some other downright incredible games (including the vastly improved sequel) for an affordable price point. You owe it to yourself to collect those games and Portal is yet another reason why!
One of the best games I've ever played! Such a cool gameplay mechanic making for really fun and sometimes mind-bending puzzles! So much fun, I've played through multiple times.
if you wanna be still alive while also simultaneously wishing suicide upon yourself for being an idiot and not solving ez puzzle game is definitely for you also get portal 2 its peak
Short, but sweet as a cake.
Full price is a bit much, get it sometime when the Orange Box is on sale.
i luv the graphics and how EASY it is to speedrun the game
portal is a great game is so good even in 2025 looks great
(Spoiler Free)
Portal is a classic and for that reason I think everyone should play it at least once. This is what I told myself about a week ago when I decided I would finally play Portal. I decided to challenge myself and get all achievements, which I did! Now having done that what do I think?
Portal is a game where you play as a Android who had to complete a series of test puzzles using portals, and are guided by the mysterious voice in the speakers. After completing them all you're promised cake :). However, strange things happen causing a change in events.
Portal is a decent game in all reality. There are fun puzzles, a somewhat interesting story that makes you want to learn more and understand, and some is a pretty unique concept. However, the game is incredibly short, quite outdated, and a little repetitive. The most frustrating part is that the ending is rather unsatisfying. Today I don't think portal holds up, but certainly is a time piece worth playing. Portals "Ribbon" or whatever you call steams equivalent to achievement hunting, was rather boring. "Camera Shy" and "Transmission Received" were the most fun and unique, but "Long Jump" and "Terminal Velocity" were somewhat tedious and annoying honestly.
So what is my overall rating? 5/10. You should play it, but don't expect it to live up to today's standards.
The portal gun feels amazing to use, the turrets are oddly adorable they had no reason to be this cute , and GLaDOS keeps things hilariously unsettling. How they were able to make such an game is beyond me
The game itself is a lot of fun and most of the achievements are doable, although the 'Challenges' are excessive as the game is too finicky in my opinion to be making extreme limits on steps or time. Most people won't be able to do them without numerous save states or utilizing the developer mode to get 'God mode'. The Advanced maps are great though! I wish there were more of them.
recommended good story and fun gameplay
I played this first in 2023 and to everyone who hasn't yet, please do. It is by far one of the best story games you could play. Once you finish it, Portal 2 is even BETTER.
10/10
The characters' premise fits my needs of perspective.
This might not mean anything, and I apologize if this isn't misleading.
I don't leave bad reviews, all efforts are a perfect score.
Not a bad game but my only main issue with it, is the camera movement when it comes to fast teleportation while changing directions where u need to go and it can get yanky. i would like this game 10/10 but im at the middle of the liking it so its at 6/10.
Game-play wise not very bad since its a very old game threw out it shows a story telling of a character nothing much on them just they were made as a test subject for their chambers of a robot voice. Slowly building up as the place does not what it seems to be "friendly". Obstacle view can be very challenging but sightly annoying to get threw all the chamber levels although it makes you use ur brain alot to remember what u really need to focus around ur surroundings.
If ur aiming to complete achievements the difficulty i would say for them would be at a medium level. There are some of them that will take a lot of time to get even for the last 3 achievements that would require u to get bronze, silver and gold on the challenging section chambers. You think u got what it takes to 100% this game? (yes)
Friendly reminder this game will make u crash out on different parts of the levels even on extra modes that will take a few attempts to get use to (This game made me crash out several times) Play this game at ur own risk!! it will make u rage D:
Hope this review is useful for ya :3
Story is nice and i like there are bonus mapa and achievements after
It may be short, but man i absolutely love this game, and portal 2 so much.
This game is truly unique; I haven't encountered anything quite like it before. It was interesting and worth playing, although the mysteries were quite challenging.
The machine voice was initially very annoying, but ultimately, you get a form of revenge.
The ending was rather ambiguous, leading me to believe I should play Portal 2.
The ending music, especially with the machine voice, was very satisfying and engaging.
Overall, a solid 7/10.
Portal—an absolute masterpiece. Simple concept, genius execution. The puzzles are brilliantly designed, the physics feel perfect, and GLaDOS? Easily one of the best villains in gaming history.
It’s short but unforgettable. The moment you first step through a portal and see yourself from the other side? Mind-blowing. A game that proves you don’t need endless content to be legendary. CUUUUDO.
This game will forever be a lifelong classic. Made in 2007 but beats so many modern day games in terms of quality and enjoyment. Sit back and enjoy some cake!
Honestly goated game, the gameplay very original and revolutionary for its time, the atmosphere one of the most isolating and creepiest of all time, eventhough its short, its still one of the best games of all time, lots of replay value and extra content to enjoy for a couple of hours.
A staple in gaming, this game truly changed everything. It's a classic and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it before! It's fun and really short, and if you are feeling extra then I highly suggest the challenges (I couldn't do them but my boyfriend locked tf in)! 10/10!
Having completed the main campaign and started to dig into the new-game-plus content, I can say that Portal is one of the best games I've played in a very long time. I typically stay within a very small niche of strategy games and building games, but Portal clicks as a concept and simply executes perfectly. The music is atmospheric, the villain is a great time, and the game is monumental. Please play it!
Portal is a brilliant puzzle game where you wield the most powerful weapon known to man: a gun that makes holes in walls. Sounds simple, right? Well, just wait until you're flinging yourself across rooms at light speed and questioning your entire understanding of physics.
The game's humor is top-notch, thanks to the passive-aggressive, cake-promising AI, GLaDOS, who guides you through increasingly deadly test chambers. Oh, and the Companion Cube? You'll love it. And then... you'll regret ever getting attached.
It's short, sweet, and incredibly satisfying — unless you're prone to motion sickness. Then it's short, sweet, and slightly nauseating.
10/10. The cake is a lie, but the fun is real.

I bought this game a while ago and I personally love it, I come back to it every now and then when i'm bored or just feel like playing it and it definitely is never able to disappoint. This is one of my all time favourite games to play, even when you know what to do or how to solve a puzzle you can stop playing it for a bit and when your bored, come back to refresh your memory or do the challenge modes which make you solve each room with more care and attention to what you are doing to try and reduce the numbers to the minimum.
So after years of hearing great things about Portal I finally decided to check it out & see what the fuss was all about. I was not disappointed! This game is awesome, creative, funny, & satisfying to the end. And that song at the end was great. No notes, 10/10. Guess I'm gonna have to jump into Portal 2 now...
Good game, in fact I loved it because of its story and idea alone. It twas a challenge but 100% completing the game was fun. Overall I highly recommend to give it a try, it might be a challenge but it won't make you want to quit.
Aperture science was a very difficult achievement to get which made it all the more satisfying when i actually got it.
Mhhh~~ sobot rex
any how portal is a good short game with interesting gameplay mechanics and a short story to go along with them :3 but when i say short i mean short cos it took me like 1hr to complete and the rest of my playtime is me trying the advanced levels XD
10/10, even after all this time im still wondering how VALVe managed to create a whole portal system and having such creativity to interact with the enviroment and the physics. It only gives you the desire to struggle to find the way through, Portal deserves even more spotlight than it already does
Portal – A Perfectly Designed Puzzle Classic
Valve’s Portal is a masterclass in minimalist game design, blending brilliant physics-based puzzles with sharp writing and dark humor. The portal gun turns every test chamber into a mind-bending challenge, and GLaDOS’ iconic commentary keeps you engaged from start to finish.
Though it’s a short experience, every moment is perfectly crafted, with a finale that cements its legendary status. Whether you’re here for the puzzles or the memes, Portal is an essential play.
9.3/10 – “Simple concept, flawless execution.”
