always love a good story choice game that even reading it is interesting by itself
So when's three?
Wouldn't recommend. The story seems patchy and linear at the same time, as if the author had strokes of inspiration from time to time without reading what they wrote before. The ending that i got left me confused and frustrated, as i saw no link whatsoever to the rest of the story or even the first book.
Great novel. This is better written than most TVshows, with several glitches here and there.
fascinating to read
a lot more intense than the 1st episode.
a metaphor of teenage life, amazingly accurate.
hoping to see more books from this author
I really liked the first game, but this was a chore to get through. The beginning is just confusing. Eventually there's a scene jump and you briefly get to continue your game 1 story. BUT again there's an immediate 2 yr time jump. The people you spent all that time getting to know in game 1 are mostly absent and forgotten about. In this NEW story you follow around a general and his super soldier. They make all the decisions and do all the cool stuff. You're a background character who gets to fumble around a few times.
Pros:
-Author does a good job creating a creepy, disturbing, harsh world.
-Largely continues the lore and you can learn some secrets from the 1st game. Backstory of Ivan, Carl, and Malcolm.
-I must admit I was tricked a few times by the mutants.
-I did question some of my decisions from the 1st game, based on what happened in the 2nd game.
-The author has talent and is capable of building up characters and story. Unfortunately without player choice and consequence, everything falls flat. Nothing matters, there's no suspense.
-There's a voice in your head or you're having hallucinations, I'm not sure. It's adds another layer of mystery and terror to this world.
-I think the author was trying to make this new character, the Oracle, your nemesis. I like the idea, but it's just done poorly.
-For the price the game is a good length.
Cons:
-Can't load save from book 1, must select/remember what you did.
-Reads like a novel instead of a CYOA.
-Never felt like I was in danger. This was due to the lack of choices.
-Very few choices and they don't matter. In the first book the people in your life mattered, your decisions would put them in danger. Part 2 has none of that. You aimlessly follow npcs around. A couple times you can kill a creature or a random person.
-The main characters, not you, are very generic and just boring.
-Can't pick sides, you just follow the main characters around.
-Your character doesn't grow. Everything you went through in book 1 doesn't matter. If you took your character out the story would be the same.
-At one point there's a few short stories. Just gives you the option to kill or help people. Regardless of your choice, these people are never seen or spoken about again. No consequences for your actions.
-There are 2 romance options. Basically, do you want to romance: a boy, a girl, neither. Can't really say much cause I don't want to give spoilers. I chose the girl, but didn't like how the romance story played out. The character, Lily, was interesting. BUT again you just aren't given any choices to make that character important to you. She has an interesting backstory, but AGAIN you're not part of it you're just a background character.
-At the start the author says there's different versions based on your choices from book 1. But book 2 is just not worth playing again.
Final Verdict:
-I just can't recommend this. You don't really get to continue your story from book 1 and your decisions from both books don't matter. It's a novel, not a game.
-I do recommend the author though. The writing is still great, but I needed game mechanics in this CYOA.
Note: Playtime is not 7.9 hrs, I left it running a few times.
if i wanted a novel i would of brought one
Another great story about the end of the world. I'm still curious though as to if there will be a third one. I did think that this was better written than the first one though. I would definitely suggest giving this a read through. I give this a 7/10.
This was a frustrating game to play for me. It felt very disjointed and read more as mostly a novelete than a choice your adventure style interactive adventure. No doubt there were different outcomes possible, but one had to get through way way to many pages and pages of linear text to reach decision points that it may as well have been a linear story. I'd suggest to the writer that he may just want to write a linear story next time if thats what he or she really wants to write. Also, the maddness scenes and the time jumping made the process even more confusing and frustrating. Its a shame because I really had high hopes for this game as it has a tried and true premise. I've loved many of the other choice of games and hosted games, but this one was so very frustrating. Sorry to say I was very happy to be done by the time I reached the end.
