I played this game on PS4 already, now bought it for steam, currently replaying. This is one of the best games for VR. It is crafted around what VR has to offer and it does so brilliantly. Add some sprinkles of adventure, cuteness, puzzles and beauty and you get this masterpiece.
short and sweet but to be continued
Brilliant. A masterpiece of storytelling, interaction, and fun & challenging game play. Don't over think it, just follow the story.
We need more games like this: simple, fun, good for the whole family...
I just need to remember, the mouse's name is Quill... Quill... Link is not called Zelda, Samus is not called Metroid, Quill is not called Moss.
Okay, so I've been dabbling into VR, (Of course if I'd known what Meta was going to do a few days later, I wouldn't have bought their headset.) and I've been hooked to the point where I have to keep setting a 30 minute timer just to look after myself.
When you think about what would make a good VR game, a puzzle platformer probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind, and yet Moss unexpectedly nails the genre in a way you could never see coming.
You control the main character, Quill with the thumbstick and buttons like you would in any regular platform game through beautiful diorama like environments. You're POV is somewhat fixed in place the only camera movements being your own head movements so there's no need to worry about motion sickness. Look off to the side, and you can see the next area you're headed for meaning even though you're teleporting from place to place, each area still feels connected.
(Actually I wonder what Resident Evil would be like with this style of camera?)
But what really sets this game apart, is how you the player interact, Quill can't do everything on her own, you need to reach into the game world and help her out. The fourth wall is nonexistent here. Move obstacles, operate mechanisms, light torches, break jars, provide healing, and even take control of enemies and either turn them against each other, or use them to solve puzzles.
If you're ever stuck, Quill herself will try to communicate a hint to you, giving the sense that the two of you are working together, and when all's said and done, you give her a high five.
I actually found myself talking to Quill a few times, even though the game makes it abundantly clear she can't hear you. Our journey together was so wholesome and enjoyable, I wasn't even bothered that the game ended on sequel bait. Because as far as I'm concerned, this game earned it.
Most important of all, the game allows you to pet Moss... I mean Quill DANG IT!
Moss is really slow for the first 1.5, and the total game is about 4.5 hours long. However, the game is well worth playing through, as the ending sequence of this game and the entire second game are some of the greatest in all of gaming.
These games play like tiny bite size areas that are small dioramas that you lord over from a static spot, and you must guide your mouse friend with a sword through the environment with jumping, killing enemies, and you manipulating the environment with your god like hovering hand powers. The art design in these games is really, really, good. The combat is relatively simplistic in the first one, basically boiling down to holding down an enemy for your tiny mouse avatar to beat the crap out of.... where the game shines is in the rooms with puzzles and platforming that require input from "your" hand and you controlling the mouse character in concert with moving things or clearing the path in front of the mouse. Or when using an enemy as part of the puzzle to move forward.
The first moss is good, the second one is amazing. Well worth the price of admission and time to play both. Played on PSVR2 with 3090ti. FPS performance was fine, but a little sporadic in some spots of the game. Had an issue with Steam initially auto scaling resolution way too high (had to manually set this), and what seemed like a slow memory leak in one of the earlier sections of the games that bogged performance down slowly. Just required a quick restart of the game to fix.
Fun little puzzle game...almost reminds me of Portal.
While the platforming is wonky at the best of times (the game will just seemingly decide at random that the ledge you've directed Quill to jump at is, in fact, now made of butter), Moss is just like its protagonist - small but charming.
The game is beautiful. But the is way too much fighting with bugs of monsters. It would be wonderful if there was a version with not fighting, with only the puzzles.
Moss is a cozy, interactive puzzle adventure that was my very very first introductory experience of any VR and it grabbed my by the balls. i was not prepared. i finished it in 2 evenings, jumping on right after getting off work for those 2 evenings until bedtime and am about to pick up the second one. if you are a cozy/puzzle/exploration adventure/indie game player at all like me and have VR, please play this game. if you dont have VR, please get one and then play this game. seriously.
Thank you for playing? Thank you for making this game!
I saw a fragment of Moss years ago, and it immediately caught my attention - even before I had a VR headset. When I finally started the game for the first time, I was already in awe. The way the story draws you in creates a deep sense of immersion. The narration deserves my highest respect, as it elevates the experience even further. All the voices are performed by a single voice actress, and she did an absolutely amazing job.
The main character's design is pure genius. There's no way not to love Quill. Her cute appearance, her adorable reactions, and her interactions with us - all had me saying "cute" and laughing several times. Even though we control Quill and also our own character, I genuinely felt like part of a team. Every time we conquered a tough part of the game, I couldn't help but smile, especially seeing Quill celebrate our success.
While the game's world doesn't overflow with details, I think it's beautiful and fits the game's format perfectly. I absolutely love the observer's perspective - it's such a great idea. The ability (and sometimes the necessity) to shift your viewpoint and look around only makes the experience more immersive and fun.
Many people say the game is overall easy, and I agree. If you struggle with movement coordination, though, it might feel slightly more challenging. The puzzles aren't particularly advanced, but as a puzzle lover, I still found them enjoyable. What can occasionally be frustrating are the technical hiccups. For me, edge detection was the most annoying issue - sometimes Quill wouldn't even try to grab a ledge. On one of the final levels, I noticed that some jumps required super precise timing, and failing meant falling down again and again. Even with these little annoyances, I still really enjoyed making it to the end of the game.
I think the game is well optimized. I didn't run into any performance problems, and the system requirements are quite basic. The graphics reflect this - while not groundbreaking, they still complement the storybook vibe very well.
The biggest downside for me is how short and unfinished the game feels. You have the option to change Quill's armor and weapon, but it feels like a feature designed for much more content than we actually get. Similarly, the areas you explore often give the impression of a long journey ahead, only to lead to your destination moments later. And if you're curious about exploring the world beyond the set paths, you'll find that you simply can't. That's the one aspect of the game that truly disappointed me.
One important warning: Moss doesn't support Steam Cloud saves. This means your progress will be gone if you uninstall the game, so make sure you finish any achievements you want before removing it. Personally, this didn't bother me much, but for those who like to keep their progression, it's definitely a downside.
In the end, I wholeheartedly recommend playing Moss. I enjoyed every moment of it - no, I loved it. When the credits rolled and I read the words "Thank you for playing" and I found myself saying "Thank you for making this game" with a tear in my eye. That moment alone shows how happy this game made me and it's now one of my favorites.
This is a must play game, PERIOD VR or not! It's so charming. Quill feels real. She IS real! Very few games give you immersion and Moss most certainly does. I'm there. If you have VR again this is a MUST PLAY! 10 stars out of 5!
A beautiful world and amazing music. Gameplay can honestly be a little clumsy, but the experience is still fantastic.
An amazing experience in a tiny magical world!
Lovely game, beautiful.
a masterpiece.
the animations, the sound, the immersivity, the story.
the only defects I can find are:
- too easy
- monsters a bit repetitive
- too short
still, for the price tag it's a masterpiece.
Good game for vr beginners, but it's expensive for how short it is.
Beautiful fairytale game with good graphics, made with soul and passion. It is puzzle platformer with fighting elements. Puzzles are well balanced, so they are not primitive yet not too complicated. Gameplay is fun, but controls are cluncky and annoying as hell sometimes. Slightest mistake in jump - and your hero will fall somewhere very easy and you have to begin again. Overall very good VR experience, one of the best in my opinion.
Barely one hour into this game and my god, I am in love. This is the cutest protagonist I've ever seen in my life, and the sense of scale (thanks to it being VR) adds so much to the experience.
Highly recommend.
So cute and the puzzles are great.
The Moss
podczas rozrywki spotkamy wszelkiej maści zagadki związane z ruchem otoczenia, poruszaniem mobami,używaniem umiejętności, niszczeniem otoczenia i jeszcze więcej
z rozrywki i skończenia gry
Dziękuje za przeczytanie
Pozdrawiam KaRoLtRtE2
What a wonderful experience!
Playing Moss felt like stepping into a tiny, magical world where every corner holds a secret waiting to be discovered.
The clever puzzles made me pause and think, but just when I craved some excitement, the action swooped in to keep things dynamic and thrilling.
It's a beautifully balanced journey.
breathtaking
Amazing graphics, cool puzzles, cute mouse.
I'm really struggling on this review. For under $20 and your a kid, I think it's a great game. I as an adult was very impressed with the story/game play. Graphics were amazing. No obvious bugs. But clearly targeted to a younger audience. Some games made for kids I as an adult can still get behind and enjoy. This I wanted to be one. It really is a cool game, just didn't keep me hooked as an adult. But I can't give it a thumbs down. Too many other positive things to say about it.
Top 1 VR games I've played, and that includes Alyx
One of the best VR games. Moss shows, that platformers are a genre that's perfect for VR. You control the main character in a way that you would with a simple xbox controller, but additionally, you can move some platforms and perform some specific actions as "a giant". Very charming game. Don't forget to high five your mouse friend!
Omg, this is like the cutest game ever can’t help but to smile as i play and steady saying “aww that’s so cute”. Definitely a 10/10 game.
Sex with Quill
I'm not very far in. It doesn't matter, I can tell this is going to be AMAZING, I could sit here and pet Quill for hours. The movement and animation on her is incredible and the story telling has me HOOKED.
I bought this years ago, before I realized it was VR only, like a silly goose. I'm glad I kept it and didn't forget about it despite that. If you are looking at it and like the mouse, grab it.
Playing this game puts a smile on my face every time I boot it up on Quest 2.
great game
Neat VR game. For the most part not that challenging, but has it's moments. Quill, the main character is adorable. The overall level design never feels repetitive. The story, even though on the shorter side of things, is well paced and the right ratio compared to the gameplay. I had my fun, and might 100% the achievements some time later.
An asymmetric puzzle adventure game with an adorable aesthetic and a lot of polish. It is a bit brief with a 4 hour run time, but was clearly built around the well paced story and not simply padding the run time. A must play, and goes on sale pretty cheap fairly often.
It was a really nice game that took all your available space in the vr world. Instead of adding dizzying motion and movements mechanics, you simply are a big entity in a large playground where you can look around, move in your real world zone and explore the virtual map and help Quill (the mouse and main character of the game) complete her quest!
This game was Absolutely fantastic!
Moss has very positive first impression. The style and theme is very good, and the idea of helping small mouse travel trough storybook locations sounds great.
The problem with this game is, that past the first impression - it's just dull. Quill(the mouse) moves pretty slowly, everything happens like it's in slow motion (I had game running at 120FPS), as if it was being dragged trough a mud. The controls of Quill feel off. The jumps feel pretty bad, and are unprecise. They are also hard to judge with some of the angles given (even moving around to see it from other side doesn't help much of the time).
The game has proper textbook progression of ideas. You get introduced to an enemy or puzzle element in safe environment. Then you experience it in dangerous situation. Finally it's being mixed with other enemies/puzzle pieces. Too bad that introduced elements are not too exciting.
In the game you use controller to move Quill, and attack enemies. At the same time you can use your hands to catch enemies, destroy stuff, heal Quill, move things around... and I think that's it? Oh, very late in the game you can actually hold 1 type of item between screens. Unfortunately most of the things you can do with your hands is very slow. If you have a slab to move it moves at snails pace. Everything you do is slow.
This game focuses on single-room puzzles. You see a room, you figure out pretty simple puzzle, and you solve it. Which takes a lot of time, because it's artificially slow. There are few times in the game where you have to be quick/precise with platforming, but most of the game you can just go at your own pace.
And finally - the game is just 3 hours long. In general I don't mind short games. But this one was just so boring to play trough, that it took me months to finish. And it's only half of the game, because you need Book 2 to experience the story. The game ends on a cliffhanger.
But wait, seeing thousands of positive reviews, it can't be that boring! Well, consider that only around 20% of players finished this easy and SHORT game. Shovel Knight is 2-3 times as long, and much harder, and yet much higher percentage of players finished it.
This game, if it was non-VR, wouldn't be worth playing at all. In VR, you'll think "well, this look promising", but it never delivers on the promises. Maybe in the second book, but I don't feel like getting that.
An insanely beautiful and cute game. Playing arcades in VR is not a forgettable experience. Would love to go through the second part.
great story, great graphic designs, cant wait to play Moss 2!
This was great. Such a unique well executed experience with a good story that keeps you interested. Glad I came along for the ride.
It's cute and the 3D effect is great since everything is near.
