Wow. That was a great game. A worthy reboot of the old Tomb Raider games. Lara Croft evolves here from an innocent young woman to a tough survivor. She tries to escape from an island with her crew and has to deal with nature, cultists and samurai. And she does so in spectacular action scenes, fast-paced escapes, in impressive locations with great graphics at the time and a bombastic soundtrack. There are also creative puzzles in the tombs, collectibles, challenges, extras and a multiplayer mode. Still highly recommended today.
Good adventure, nice platforming. Lara is pretty.
Just finished the game in 2 days.
So nostalgic to play after all those years of the release date.
I Love it. From start to finish. Lara is so brave and careful for her friends and have a great personality.
Thrilling history. I couldn't stop playing. I Definitely recomend 100%. :)
It's garbage. Not only the worst of the Nu-Lara trilogy, but probably the worst mainline Tomb Raider game overall. Not an ounce of the precision platforming with a kickass heroine that made the franchise popular. Instead we get boring cover shooter interspersed with cinematic "run through exploding building" sequences. The story is nothing to write home about either, with a whiny portagonist in cutscenes, who spends most of the gameplay sections mowing down hundreds of people, making Rambo look like a pacifist in comparison. This game is an insult to the name of Tomb Raider.
This game, from start to finish is just amazing. The gameplay is so enjoyable. Combat is fast and fluid, climbing is fun and the Tombs are great to discover. It was also nice to get familiar with Japanese History.
This is pretty much a perfect action adventure game. It is probably the only game that I beat for the seventh time. I played it on different platforms, and every time, it felt like a new experience, even if I knew every corner of this game.
I love map exploration in this game. It is the only game where I have found all the collectibles and completed all the challenges multiple times.
And, it has one of the best controls among all games in existence. I felt pleasure just by running around.

This game grabs you by the feels and doesn’t let go. The story is solid, the characters are likable, and Lara? She’s an absolute sweetheart you just want to protect at all costs. Watching her suffer is borderline heartbreaking — but it makes her journey all the more rewarding.
Exploring the semi-open world is a blast — whether you’re raiding tombs, hunting for treasure, or just taking in the gorgeous scenery (before something inevitably tries to kill you). A great mix of action, adventure, and emotional storytelling. Lara Croft’s pain is our gain — though we’d prefer a little less of it for her.
If you like Action/Adventure games then you will most definitely enjoy Tomb Raider. The part of the game I enjoyed the most was the great set pieces and locations you see were very well done and I would say ahead of most games in this genre in 2013. The game play is pretty basic, I have never played the older TR games only the rebooted trilogy but it was fine. The animations were very well done, crystal put a lot of time into them. I really did not think the story was good at all, pretty straight forward figure out how to escape island story. It is lara first adventure, but she kinda gets over killing someone pretty fast, and the other characters are pretty generic and forgettable. But for a game that is almost 12 years old it aged pretty well and looks good at 4k. I would say this for me ties Rise of The Tomb Raider for the best ones of the trilogy. Overall fun game, short, good set pieces, bland story, lara pretty much has no experience in this game which was a good call for her character, BUT she pretty much becomes the Terminator at the end. I think it was fun and If on sale recommend it.
I've played this game multiple times throughout the years and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time. The game delivers good visuals, intense action, and a gripping story that explores the depths of human resilience. Highly recommend this game and the other two within the new trilogy. Its a must if you're a Tomb Raider fan!!
This game is fun, open'ish world which is nice to have a little bit of freedom so explore without feeling overwhelmed by an extremely expansive world. Fun action, Puzzles and the characters jump range is insane and fun to rock climb around the island.
This was a nice surprise for an older game, especially coming from a die-hard Uncharted fan. There's a lot of great things to pick out. Lara's character is nicely whole, however, even just after finishing the credits I couldn't pick out most of the other characters from a police line up. The gameplay was the main focus thankfully as the plot doesn't do much to differentiate itself from the early Uncharted games but without much of the colour in its cheeks. There are some great moments to see alongside some neat tombs to scratch around in. Some of it's a little under-baked with the survival elements but I think the game is already nice and neat without messy bloating. There were some technical issues I couldn't iron out, the main one was the UI never fitting the screen properly. The game ran well with no crashes and some graphical elements stand high and above 2013 standards when ran on Ultra.
I did 74% of the content in around 8.5 hours and I would recommend it!
A great game, everyone knows that, warm recommendations, of course, but what fascinates me the most is how the game is similar to the Arrow series, and I love it!
Lara Croft and Oliver Queen are similar in many ways. Not only do they both use arrows but they were both on ships that sunk which left them stranded on hostile islands and Lara wears a hood in the ROTTR trailer which is a nod to the T.V. series when Oliver is in Costume. Have surviving on a deadly island, Bow skills, Similar sinking ship disaster, and not to mention they are both rich as hell and fluent in multiple languages!
The only difference is gender. I LOVE IT!
Survivors are born that day!
Just yes. Aside from the main quest, you get to explore actual tombs and be a raider, almost like Indiana Jones.
The Tomb Raider franchise holds legendary status in the gaming world, and Crystal Dynamics had the formidable task of developing a reboot for the current generation. Tomb Raider (2013) is the origin story of Lara Croft. The game blends puzzles, exploration and combat into an exciting package. The story centers around Lara and her companions becoming shipwrecked on a hidden island called Yamatai, as they search for an ancient tomb of a mythical queen. As to be expected in a Tomb Raider game, there is a lot of open exploration along with linear sections, and many tombs and crypts to uncover. There's a variety of environments to travel through which are ripe with platforming opportunities. The game has fluid climbing mechanics and movements that feel so satisfying to perform. Lara begins with a bow but as the game progresses she collects many different weapons and tools, which unlocks more of the world for exploration. The bow is silent and can pick enemies apart from a distance. Lara is able to collect different materials and upgrade/unlock skills at any campfire. There is plenty of combat to be found, with many scripted set pieces that get the adrenaline pumping. Situations can also be approached using well implemented stealth mechanics to depose or bypass enemies quietly. The story itself is entertaining and well-crafted.
The game initially depicts Lara as unsure and defenceless, but soon enough she begins to grow into the Lara we are accustomed to; fearless, capable, inventive, and at times ruthless. Lara's character development is one of the strong points of the game. Unsurprisingly, Lara seems to survive everything thrown at her including falling from incredible heights on many occasions, and carrying on even when suffering extensive injuries. Of course this is Tomb Raider so grandiose events of near survival are a staple here. Support characters are fairly well done as well, but are generally more one-dimensional and cliche, which makes sense given their lack of screen time in comparison.
Visually, this game is beautiful. Character models are very realistic and facial expressions convey many of the emotions the characters experience in-game. Environments are highly rendered with detailed textures and dynamic lighting. I could never have imagined a Tomb Raider game looking this good back in the day. The voice work is terrific, mainly Lara, but pretty much most of the cast especially Mathias. The game is also packaged with a multiplayer mode. Multiplayer doesn't really hit the same, and I found it to be fairly repetitive. That is of course when I was able to find a populated game. Given the fact that more than a decade has gone by since release it's fair to say the servers have seen better days.
Overall, Tomb Raider (2013) is a visually beautiful and engaging single player experience and does an exceptional job of ushering in a new age for this series.
I love Tomb Raider, but this is genuinely one of the first games where I've wondered if this was properly ported over to the PC. I have a super computer, well over the recommended specs, and the amount of bugs and glitches I ran into was astronomical. I had to reload checkpoints so many times because cutscenes wouldn't trigger properly, or Lara wouldn't correctly walk on branches, etc... It finally got to the point where I'm in the cavern part, blew that red crate down so that I can hop over the massive wall, and the crate glitched into the wall, with no easy fix of reloading check point or the like. I DNF after that.
Lots to do, varied game-play and still looks great after 11 years. I've really enjoyed this title and am looking forward to gaining 100% achievements when i complete the game. I will then go straight on to Rise then lastly Shadow.
Love the character, Lara Croft and also the story, I recommend this game
Tomb Raider (2013) successfully reinvents the franchise, offering an intense, emotional, and thrilling experience. It strikes a fine balance between storytelling, combat, and exploration, making it accessible for new players while still respecting the series’ legacy. Though some aspects of classic Tomb Raider are toned down (like larger tombs and puzzles), the game’s focus on Lara’s origin story and survival creates an unforgettable adventure.
An excellent reboot that redefines Lara Croft for a new generation of players.
If you’re a fan of action-adventure games, it is definitely worth checking out. The game follows a young Lara Croft who gets stranded on a mysterious island after a shipwreck and must fight to survive. The story is solid, with a good mix of action and emotional moments as Lara transforms from a frightened survivor into the badass adventurer we know her to be.
Gameplay-wise, the game has a nice balance of exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving. Combat is fluid and fun, with a variety of weapons to use and stealth mechanics that add some tactical depth. The platforming and puzzles are engaging, and the environments are packed with hidden areas to explore. The island feels big, and there’s plenty of room to discover secrets and upgrade your gear.
Visually, the game looks great, with lush environments and impressive character models. The character development of Lara is done well, and you really feel like you're experiencing her growth throughout the game. The voice acting and motion capture are top-tier, which adds a lot to the overall immersion.
That being said, the game can feel a bit formulaic at times, with some action-adventure tropes you’ve seen before in other games. But overall, Tomb Raider is a solid entry in the franchise, offering a fun mix of action, exploration, and story. If you're looking for a good action-adventure with strong gameplay and decent storytelling, it’s definitely worth playing.
good story and great optimisation for lower end hardware while having great graphics when cranked all the way up
I came into this game with low to mid expectations. I thought it was going to be another generic action adventure game with a few mechanics that differentiates it from the rest but i was wrong. This game simply blew me away. Everything was perfect about the single player campaign. The graphics, the interesting back story, the jaw dropping cinematics and the level design was masterful. Even the collectables had significance in this game providing us with history, and a back story that kept myself wanting to know more. I wasn't this surprised at a game like this since witcher 3 and that's saying a lot.

game play check, graphics check, and good performance triple check! Immersive atmosphere.
Originally beat the game on the PS4.
Coming back to it on PC I find that there are more and better visual effects, not surprised but it is a nice addition surely. Game runs well on the steam deck and looks superb despite the reduced resolution.
Some of my thoughts have changed since I last played though. Some of the acting is way too cheesy and not in a "Jill sandwich" way, kind of feels like a straight to tape movie, but then some other scenes are convincing and properly convey an emotion so it's hit or miss. Some of the odd design choices remain in many of the platforming areas where from your perspective there are ledges Lara should be able to grab on but she just doesn't unless you jump from an obnoxius angle, invisible walls you hit while jumping where there shouldn't be any and a few actions Lara refuses to do unless you press the highlighted button a few times, all these issues I remember were present in the console version as well.
On the other hand the exploration and setting are great, it makes you want to wander the beaten path and see what you can find hidden in every level. Same goes for the story despite the few cheesy scenes it hold up pretty well and it's interesting, for me at least the supernatural part is the most engaging as it creates this mistery of wtf is going on.
Combat is ok, serviceable. At least the stealth sections give you options to approach them and allow you to go guns blazing if you mess up while feeling natural, like ok time to go loud and the enemies will react accordingly which is something recent games haven't been able to do properly (you know which ones, ubishit is the biggest offender in this).
Perhaps I am being a bit too harsh on it since I recently played the remasters of the originals and it's such a different vibe, OG Lara being such a badass and projecting that confidence that she has earned through the years, while reboot Lara being an inexperienced kid just starting to learn the ropes. Even so I believe this is a good addition to the saga, unlike whatever piece of trash crystal dynamics is preparing for the new mOdErN aUdIeNce entry
This game proved to be a masterpiece from start to finish. Its excellence was evident in every aspect, from the intuitive controls, which were remarkably easy to master, to the seamless immersion it offered, enabling even a novice like myself to engage deeply with the gameplay.
Despite its release in 2013, the graphics remain unexpectedly impressive, greatly enhancing the overall experience and rendering the gameplay both captivating and visually pleasing. The narrative, too, was both compelling and engrossing, holding my attention throughout and offering moments of genuine enjoyment.
Unlike other games I have encountered, which often falter in maintaining interest, this one never succumbed to monotony. Were it not for a few minor flaws—such as the excessive difficulty in dispatching enemies, occasional camera glitches, and a storyline that could have benefitted from greater length—it would have earned an impeccable score.
Nevertheless, I confidently rate this game a 4.5 out of 5 and wholeheartedly recommend it as a purchase. It is a true testament to the enduring appeal of well-crafted gaming.
For those who have ever played a classic Tomb Rider before, if the image of Lara Croft in your mind is still a fearless, acrobatic gunslinger with ninja movements who used to fight mummies, dragons, mercenaries, and ancient warriors, this game may feel a little jarring; this is because Tomb Raider (2013) introduced you to a "fragile" version of Lara Croft.
However, for newcomers to the series, this game is an excellent starting point. It serves as a prelude to the evolution of Lara Croft in the trilogy that continues with Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. What makes this game compelling is its focus on character development. Instead of dropping players into the boots of a fully-fledged adventurer, the game takes you on a transformative journey. You witness Lara’s progression from a hesitant and inexperienced explorer to a resilient and resourceful survivor which feels organic and immersive.
Lara’s transformation is shaped not only by the dangerous situations she faces but also by the lessons she learns from her struggles. This makes her journey all the more satisfying, even if it strays from the expectations of fans accustomed to her earlier badass image.
Therefore, whether you’re a veteran of the franchise or a newcomer, Tomb Raider offers a fresh perspective that sets the stage for Lara Croft’s rise as an iconic adventurer. I strongly recommend you to try it. The game does not rely too heavily on its puzzles as well. So, there is no need to be afraid of dealing with challenging puzzles because even a brain-dead person like me could go through them.
Great game with an interesting plot, but very long and the locations look like a dirty garbage dump. Bad optimization.
I like how the new tomb raider games are better than the initial ones in many ways.
The beginning of a new video game era for Tomb Raider. One amazing detail in this game is that there are no loading screens. The game cleverly hides loading with the actual cinema of the game story in a way that keeps you sucked in. This masterpiece is so much fun and encompasses the new design flow of how its future sequels would go on to adopt. A very smooth game that sometimes feels like a movie. Action packed story game play similar to the likes of titles like Uncharted series.
Only playable if you use the the Underworld Shorts Lara mod
Very good game and got it for an absolute bargain!
If you enjoy third-person action games, this is an easy recommendation, even after 11 years. There's a lot that's been said about the story and gameplay. So instead, I'll say that Tomb Raider is still worth playing today. And the game runs really good! I hit some very minor jankiness, like related to a few textures. I played through the main story line and it really is like playing through a movie. Also, it's nice to play an older game where the bad dudes are chunky and simple, lol.

I recommend this game since its on sale :)
This was a blast, actually. I originally played it in 2016 and I don't remember liking it all that much. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood or my tastes changed, who knows.
Either way, it's good. Very different from previous entries in the series and heavily influenced by popular games from the 7th generation, such as Uncharted and Far Cry. But it's still its own thing and the execution is more than solid. Just moving the character around is satisfying which is not a given.
I'd say it employs what they call wide linear design (think Metro Exodus, but somewhat narrower). It has a metroid-vania element to it where you need to acquire certain skills before you can access certain areas. Tons of collectables, so it constantly makes you feel that you are making progress, which is, admittedly, addictive. It might get a bit old towards the end, but mostly it keeps things exciting.
Combat is fun too, with the bow being particularly satisfying to use. I didn't have too much issues playing on hard and I played with a gamepad too. I think the normal setting might be too easy.
Certainly technically impressive for its time and still doesn't look too bad, although its 7th gen roots are certainly evident. TressFX (the tech they used for Lara's hair) may still cause some performance issues in closeups.
Story is also solid and well executed. I remember thinking that Lara's transformation from bookworm to cold-blooded killer was a bit contrived - one moment she's hysterical about killing a person in self-defence, the next she's dropping dudes left and right without batting an eye. Now, however, I think they did a decent job of balancing story and gameplay considering it's a mainstream action-adventure game.
Highly recommend. Just don't go in with any expectations based on the older games in the franchise. It's a different experience.
This is my second time beating the game. The first time that I beat the game I was around 9-10. So since the big Tomb Raider game bundle was available for the Autumn Fall, I bought all 3 main games with all their additional content. But the point is, is that the game was incredible. It held up even now that I'm finishing high school. Great story, great characters, and overall fun experience. There is a bunch of side content that I didn't do, but even though I didn't I could progress the main story without any hinderance. So you can really choose whether to do side content or just focus on the story. Overall great game.
Cool Game with some great moments.
Good story and graphics.
IMO this is the best Tomb Raider game from the recent trilogy.
I just replayed it for the first time since launch, and it really holds up well. Lara is badass, the combat is brutal and the game dosnt suffer from modern day bloat game design.
This is a tight well paced action platformer. While I did rush through the main story, I plan on going back and finishing up the tombs and collectables that I missed.
I also want to add that I played this game on my Rog Ally X and it ran at a steady 100 fps throughout. Great performance on the handheld.
Recommendation:
This game is a must-play for fans of action-adventure and puzzle-solving. It offers a gripping story paired with dynamic gameplay that still feels fresh. Even though it’s been around for a while, the polished visuals and immersive sound design make it a standout experience.
Playtime and Experience:
I personally really enjoyed this game, the combination of an engaging storyline and puzzle-like gameplay kept me hooked from start to finish. Despite it's age, it doesn’t look or feel outdated at all, thanks to its outstanding graphics and audio.
Pros:
Engaging Storyline: A compelling narrative that showcases Lara Croft’s journey and character growth.
Puzzle-Like Gameplay: Clever tomb puzzles and challenges that are fun and satisfying to solve.
Stunning Graphics: The environments are beautifully rendered, with great attention to detail.
Excellent Sound Design: Atmospheric audio and music heighten the immersion and tension.
Fluid Gameplay Mechanics: Combat, movement, and exploration are all intuitive and satisfying.
Cons:
Linear Progression: While there’s some exploration, the game follows a relatively fixed path.
Limited Tomb Exploration: Optional tombs are great but feel too brief and leave you wanting more.
Gameplay Highlights:
The gameplay stands out with its blend of intense action sequences, stealth elements, and environmental puzzles. The dramatic set pieces—like escaping collapsing ruins or fighting through enemy ambushes—are exhilarating and memorable. Exploring tombs adds a slower, more thoughtful pace to the action, making the experience varied and engaging.
Final Verdict:
This game is a timeless action-adventure experience with a captivating story and satisfying gameplay. It’s aged remarkably well, offering a level of polish and depth that rivals even newer titles. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer, this is a game that you shouldn’t miss.
Good game, loving this shit so far, snagged it for 2$ great financial investment but now im going to have to buy the rest of the definitive series smh
Loved the story and I really loved the gameplay. I didn't like how often my GPU setting kept going to the highest settings, but overall I enjoyed the game and can't wait to play the others
meh 50/50 it's okay I guess. Once you complete the main story line there isn't much else to do and even if you do complete all remaining tombs and collect all the remaining artifacts you don't get a reward for completion. Also the camera wobble is atrocious 5 minutes into gameplay and you immediately want to stop.
I have to admit, I was quite skeptical in the early hours of this game. The gameplay was unsatisfying, the story was progressing at a snails pace and the characters all seemed to be bland archetypes with no flair.
That said, I am glad I stuck with it. Somewhere from the middle onwards, Tomb Raider turned into a delightfully exciting video game. The gameplay remained somewhat simple and unexciting throughout, but the story became more densely packed and was interesting enough to keep me hooked.
I think I'd recommend it to most people who enjoy games like Uncharted and the more recent God of War. It's the lesser of these three franchises, but in such mighty company, that isn't saying much.
very good game amazing graphics and story
I 100%'d the game and I have to say it's underwhelming.
I've encountered several bugs during my playthrough that required restarting from the checkpoint because I couldn't progress along the intended path. The DLC Tomb couldn't be completed because out of several burnable objects, the devs only envisioned and tested one order of burning them.
The plot is simple at best and completely transparent within the first fifth of the game, though it takes Lara until the very end to piece it together. The plotholes are numerous. Lara is captured or knocked out about five times during the game and only survives because no one bothers to put a bullet in her head and instead hang her up by her feet as a Christmas ornament. The main villain could have been killed several times during the game but wasn't for reasons unknown. General incompetence and poor judgement is a great description for all in-game characters.
Gameplay is the classic dumbed down RPG mechanics pioneered by Ubisoft, alongside their shopping list of meaningless collectibles. There is no single valuable skill available for unlocking and weapon upgrades just turn an already very easy combat system into something slightly easier. The only way to turn combat in this game challenging is to farm the combat achievements in a single run.
On top of that, they fumbled Lara's character hard. Even with the vision of seeing her turn into the unflappable adventurer we've known her as for a decade and a half, they failed to hit the mark by longshot. Despite all her achievements, her attitude remains that of a college student thrown straight out of her dorm into the fire as if she wasn't already an explorer with thorough survival training. Just because she's inexperienced, doesn't mean her entire personality needs to be torn down and replaced by a stereotypical white girl urbanite. The character we play as isn't Lara Croft by any stretch of the imagination. She isn't smart enough, isn't resilient enough and definitely isn't collected enough.
And to top it all off, they took away her signature dual pistols. You only get to fire two pistols for a few seconds during a quick time event at the end. There were few ways this reboot could've been fumbled harder.
I'd say play this only if you are a diehard Tomb Raider fan, but if you are, you'll be saddled with the constant feeling of everything being off from what you know to be a proper Tomb Raider game.
OML I LOVE LARA CROFT! also the story is very fun with many unexpected turns. very good story game!! although ive only played 3 hours ive really enjoyed it so far, 8.9/10
One of the best games I've played. Great storytelling, decent combat, good graphics.
its a very engaging and interesting plot. ngl the music makes me clench my cheeks
The Biggest Meh Game.
My Issues with this game are mainly with it's gameplay, it is a fairly weak and repetitive cover shooter with enjoyable exploration and an alright story, i like this version of Lara a lot honestly but i didn't feel much for any of the other character's. i think the game's strong suit is exploration but it feel's like there is way less because of the game's over abundance of enemy encounter's. The game also has a hastly thrown together rpg levelling up and skill system which aren't useful in the slightest.
i'd reccomend this game on sale if you like TPS a lot.
This game is carried by one of the best female characters ever written, Lara Croft. She's a perfect mix of strength and vulnerability, making her a relatable and admirable female protagonist. Which is rare.
Lara is portrayed as strong and capable of beating all odds, but she hesitates, she doubts, and she worries about her abilities. She's faced with terrifying situations (I would've gave up as soon as I looked down from a height), with bravery all whilst grappling with the emotional weight of death and being their only hope. She shows compassion for those she doesn’t want to kill, but when it comes to protecting her friends, she acts without hesitation. I felt as if her bravery wasn’t just about the danger, but pushing through fears, knowing she must succeed, no matter how overwhelming it feels. That balance of sensitivity and strength is what makes her so relatable and lovable.
The game play itself is fun, very action packed.
The graphics too are breathtaking. I often paused just to take in the stunning landscapes and Lara is beautiful in this edition.
However, I do have one disappointment. Achieving 100% completion is impossible due to a number of achievements being tied to online play, which sadly has no activity.
