Little Nightmares

I absolutely love the graphics in this game. It requires a combination of stealth, speed and smarts. I love that it challenged me, made me think and renewed my enjoyment of gaming. My review comes from someone who is fairly new to most typical 'gaming' experiences. But, this seemed like a great game for novice gamers and experts alike. As a huge horror fan, this game hit the spot!
10/10 Nomes!
Little Nightmares is a stunning blend of horror, puzzle-solving, and platforming that lingers in your mind long after you’ve finished it. Although not too long it is a game you will definitely remember for a long time!
The art and suspense are good. I can't attest to the gameplay because I couldn't get past the first chapter. Not so much because it was difficult, but more because the controls are terrible. The camera angle never matches the way you are facing. For example, if you are pressing straight right, it appears as if you are running at an angle. The controls are clunky and the lighting and bloom make it almost impossible to enjoy the great art in the game. I never made it past the first chapter because of the camera angle and controls. Play Limbo or Inside. Better art, better music, better game execution, and superior controls and playability.
best game ever mhm mhm no doubt no doubt. everything is perfect w it.
Short Version:
Well done short puzzle horror game.
Longer Version:
This is a very aesthetically pleasing as well as audio pleasing short horror game. Done in a very Tim Burton mixted with Hayao Mizayaki style, it's gross, it's horrifying, it's captivating. The music creates an anxiety inducing ambiance. Put those two together and you get this heart pounding escape oriented game. If you're into helpless horror games, this is one for you.
The game was cheap, went free. I bought it anyways to support the company, and wasn't disappointed.
Getting all achievements for this game was a pain in my tight ass hole would recommend getting them though was very fun great graphic and gameplay
9.1/10
Every once in a while you come across a game that hits you like a wave, takes you into another realm and pass like nothing happened, leaving you flabbergasted. This is one of them, a masterpiece.
One of my favourite games of all time the atmosphere is unreal and the mysteries are plentiful.
10/10
This game gave me some of the most weirdest feelings ever which left me wanting more and as I would say they delivered with the second game which for me is the better than this, but that would be expected from them.
Out of that, the atmosphere of this game is incredible and should be experienced for whatever price.
Beautiful game with a fantastic atmosphere. It is just a joy to play, with good level design and story.
I really enjoyed this game. The story line is dark, the atmosphere is cold and if you immerse yourself it will put chills down your spine. It got me with a jump scare once or twice and the twist at the end of the DLC is epic. A little puzzle game to pass away a few hours. Top marks.
basically your this little person in a big world of a bunch of scaries, pretty accurate to my real life because i am short. shoutout to the janitor hate that guy
i had a lot of fun with it but it is only a little under 5 hours for a $20 game (i got it on sale) and the quality isn't the greatest, items just kind of float around characters hands, there is some times where animation cancelling happens and enemies loop, and in one particular puzzle, you literally have to figure out that you can throw a bucket through a MIRROR to get to a new room which I couldn't even figure out.
I'm generally not a big fan of this type of game BUT Little Nightmares is the exception, I don't know exactly why.. but despite that I find the game extremely fun... the nightmarish setting and the nasty creatures that haunt you, the music and the whole design of the game in general are quite well done.. I highly recommend anyone who is wondering to just try it...
Recommended by me and my wife!
Its interesting how the game is cute and scary at the same time. Did not play game like this before.
Also there are puzzles and surprises! And there is a twist in dlc.
a horror sidescrolling game that that have well created enviroment. instead of showing a lot of jumpscare and disgusting bloody visual, this game use the calm but terrifying scenery that feels weird but enjoyable. the puzzles are well designed, not really confusing, but still challenging. the story itself was not really showed in subtle way, but that makes it more mysterious.
Little Nightmare : 8,7
like a limbo or inside, but in a 3d space with a horror element
the gameplay is fun, simple but not too simple
the presentation is incredible -- lighting, animations, and atmosphere are top notch -- when you play it feels like a scary animated movie
would recommend!
i have barely played horizontal-screen games before (except Limbo maybe?), so it took some time to get used to it. anyway it scared me successfully (thought i was unbeatable after listening to some many horror stories haha), especially the ghost lady... and it was literally annoying that i had to jump, run, and avoid all the time but still died= = love DLCs
this game was awesome! the graphics were spectacular, the story is very unique, and the game play is super fun! and its fun to replay over and over! 10/10 amazing game.
years late, but amazing underrated game. The monsters and art style is so unique.
great game scary and has puzzles fun
This games atmosphere is insane. The gameplay is smooth with some little puzzles to solve along the way. The enemies are all great in my opinion as well. I heavily recommend!
Game is really easy once you play it a couple times. Took an hour to beat it after I had beat it a couple times. I would recommend the game.
I am at a loss for words. This game is so inexplicably beautiful and so profoundly messed up that I just can't deal with it. 100% worth the money.
Simply, a short horror game. It has a dark and scary ambience with an aesthetic environment. It can sometimes be buggy and the mechanics sometimes struggle a bit, but most of the time it's fine. I believe that it has a really underdeveloped story, and doesn't feel like a lot of variation. The boss fights are the best part of the game. Sometimes you have to run from one or multiple characters in an intense fighting scene, and it's so pleasing when you complete the different chapters.
Most of the time I've spent on this game is when I was trying to get the "Hard to the Core" achievement. First, I completed the game and later claimed all the other achievements in the game on Steam. When I tackled Hard to the Core I had to practice for a bit before I got into the rhythm. I completed the game in under an hour without dying. I did this about five or six times and I never got the achievement. I tried researching what could've gone wrong, but I found no answer. Then it suddenly came to me that you can't start playing the game through the chapter-section, you have to start a completely different game, else it will count the time on the slot you've already played on. This information never appeared in any of the guides on Steam or at least that it was important to keep in mind. So I warn you, when you're going for the Hard to the Core achievement, make sure you always click "new game" before every attempt when trying to get it.
6/10
This game leaves the beautiful story up to interpretation and is very chilling to play 5 stars.
I initially wrote this game off as being another one of the short kid-focused horror games in the same vein as games like Five Nights at Freddy’s and Hello Neighbour.
Oh, how wrong I was.
A One of a Kind Nightmare
Little Nightmares is, without a doubt, one of the most atmospheric and hauntingly beautiful games that I’ve ever played. The eerie world, oppressive, bleak, and surreal atmosphere, the unsettling characters, and the deeply immersive narrative all come together to create a truly unforgettable experience.
The game’s art style is striking, with its twisted, dreamlike, and timeless environments that are both captivating and terrifying. Each area is meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of dread, and the subtle details in the world-building make it feel alive, albeit in a nightmarish way. The use of lighting and sound adds layers to the atmosphere, with every creak, shadow, and distant noise keeping you on edge throughout the journey.
The art artstyle of both this game and its sequel reminded me heavily of the works of Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler), specifically A Series of Unfortunate Events. Both the illustrations from the novels and the art direction from the 2004 movie adaptation present a similar timeless and surreal aesthetic to Little Nightmares; both works even make heavy use of eye imagery, which is probably what made the connection for me.
In terms of character design, each of them fits the dreamlike twisted world perfectly. While I personally don’t really find any of the adults scary, maybe with the exception of the janitor, all of them are still very unsettling. Six is immediately an iconic design; while she still bears a resemblance to other characters, namely Coraline, she still manages to stand out from other horror protagonists with her yellow raincoat, dark hair that covers her eyes, shadowy face and Zippo lighter.
While the monstrous adults found in this game are not really terrifying to me, the real horror of this game, to me, is found in the unknown. What is this world, and how did it come to be? Throughout the game, you are given tidbits of lore which draw you in and make you think. Fear of the Unknown, coupled with the bleak, hopeless atmosphere, is what makes this game scary to me.
Little Nightmares boasts a marvellous soundtrack, where every track is meticulously tailored to its setting. Six's Theme, a recurring melody that can be found throughout the series, is especially impactful. Its progression, starting softly and building to a darker crescendo, powerfully reflects Six's emotional arc, illustrating her slow transformation from vulnerable child to one of the monsters she was trying so hard to escape from.
The gameplay itself is brilliant. It’s a mix of platforming, puzzle-solving, and stealth, all wrapped in a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere. The puzzles are not very challenging; I was never stuck for more than 10 minutes, but despite this, they still managed to be entertaining and illustrated the use of some grey greymatter. The stealth, on the other hand, is executed perfectly; sneaking past enemies in this game, especially the janitor, is a genuinely exhilarating experience.
While the story is told in a subtle, almost cryptic way, it’s clear that Little Nightmares is about more than just escaping a nightmare. It’s a commentary on fear, survival, and the cycle of abuse (the abused becoming the abusers).
This game has spawned a series that I personally believe to be one of the finest in the horror genre. This game, its sequel and prequel, the comics, and the audio series have crafted a world that is genuinely terrifying, with abused children being stolen from our world and trapped in a world of nightmares.
9/10
It’s a cute, cozy puzzle platformer with beautiful graphics; I really love the art style. But once you start going for achievements, especially the no-death run, it gets a bit stressful (it's not thaaat bad)
It's not difficult, but interesting and has a great atmosphere. even without a discount,i would have purchased it.
This isn't usually my type of game but for some reason I can't help but love it. It features some simple puzzle throughout the area's.
It's a really short game and only took me around 10 hours to complete the main game and DLC. It's one of those games that does environmental story telling the best since there is no dialogue in the game. The horror aspect of the game is creepy and eerie. There is no jump scares from what I recall, but its the design of the characters that put you on edge... and if you really pay attention to the backgrounds in certain areas you'd find that maybe you're not always alone exploring the Maw :).
After finishing the main game I was left confused but not in a disappointed way, just in a way were I was left with more welcomed questions than answers, but after finishing the DLC I was left depressed and shocked with more answers to the questions I had from the main ending.
Overall its a solid game and can't wait to play Little Nightmares 2, but after finishing everything I think I might hold off on it and play something a little more lighthearted because if the second game is anything like the first then I don't know if playing back to back depressing games is the move.
It's a solid 9/10 with my only complaint is that sometimes the controls felt a little jank, but it's a very minor complaint.
My daughter loves this game. I played because she insisted but probably wouldn't have otherwise. I don't enjoy horror but I can't deny this game is well made. It was a relatively short experience (thanks to my daughter guiding me through the puzzles). The symbolism and message behind the game was thought provoking.
Very cool nice grphics and also my fav game
I will never forgive you for making me [spoiler]eat that sweet little angel, game.
Un des meilleurs jeu d'horreur, un jeu qui te fait pas peur avec des jumpscares mais avec une ambiance et une atmosphères pressantes.
fun game. it'll probably last you 10-20 hours if you want to get all of the achievements
9/10 Almost Like A Great Indie Game
Is it worth the full price, ABSOLUTELY NOT, but for sale sure. I felt like it's way too short for almost 1 $30 game.
Anyway, it was still a simple yet basic game to play, honestly the horror kinda got you, like the mr hands guy, the chefs, the obese customers. It was pretty great!
for it being a horror platformer it does a good job. as it being a puzzle game it leaves much to be desired. Some puzzles making no sense or needing external help shouldnt be normal, or I suck at puzzles who knows. the atmosphere is 10/10 and really sets you in this weird, eerie world. I would def recommend
Amazing, simply amazing. It's a little short, but worth the money for sure
This game has the best graphics and is really fun sometimes
Here's a quick review of my thoughts after beating "Little Nightmares" on the PC.
+ Graphics are stellar. The dark artstyle that this game goes for is really hardcore and beautiful. And everything around the game gets complimented by these graphics as well. Monsters are highly detailed, scenery feels alive, so many particle effects. There is literally nothing wrong with these graphics.
+ Atmosphere is perfection. This world breathes with atmosphere. And having no dialogue or signs with texts helps boost the tone so much.
+ Overall scariness is more on the disturbed side than anything else. However, it works really well with this game. Yes, there are chase sequences and tense moments, but this game isn’t a horror game trying to freak you out. It’s just trying to make you really uncomfortable but equally curious in what’s going on and it nails that.
+ Controls are nice. Walking, crawling, running, jumping, throwing, and diving all feel good. It may feel like it’s hard to grab something when jumping but that’s usually because you didn’t jump high or well enough, coming from my experience.
+- Checkpoints are hit or miss. Half of the time, it’s right where you left off, and the other half is dropping you off two-to-three rooms over. Not a huge deal though because there are no lives in this game, but it is an annoyance.
+- Loading a chapter in the select menu starts you off only at the exact beginning of all four of them. Both Limbo and Inside had a much better system than this with literally ten times the number of locations you could start at. Kinda disappointing that Little Nightmares only did the bare minimum in the chapter select screen.
- A few “Okay, what was that?” moments in this game. Missing an easy jump, dying to a monster that sees you off-camera, and a few other similar moments are present. It’s really not too big of a deal though since you literally cannot get a “Game Over”, but how far out the checkpoints sometimes are and how unfair these handful of moments can be can create a bit of an annoyance to the player.
- Credits are 6 minutes long and unskippable even on a second playthrough. I really don’t know why that is.
Overall quality of experience: 8.4/10. I Really Liked this game. This game is tight. The atmosphere is top-notch, graphics are amazing, and the eerie and unnerving moments are (for the majority) a joy to play through. Personally, this tops both Limbo and Inside with it’s simple but deep tone and monster design. Yes, I did rank Inside a 0.1 score higher so it technically is the better game, but I personally vibe with Little Nightmare’s world more than Inside’s. I mean, I did beat it twice, which is more than I have to say for Inside. Overall, if you want a very simple and short game with deep atmosphere and unsettling moments, play this game. Just make sure you get it on sale cause $27 isn’t worth any 3-hour long game, just saying.
Really fun Experience,
Mysterious, You make your own interpretations,
Graphics, Environment and Music:
Dark, engaging, everything fits and fills your senses making room for nothing but you to hide, run, walk slowly, jump and escape, completing the masterpiece of dark art
Gameplay
Some frustration can happen, but it's doable, and you forget about it by.. wanting to know
Worth play, again if you feel like
P.S. I played part two awhile ago in diff platform and just played this now, making me want to play the second part again and see how things feels different
This game is way too short for 20 dollars. However I managed to get it for 5 and it was so much more worth. The game took me about the 3 hours to complete excluding dlc. The puzzles are really fun and the scary moments get really scary. Sadly the chapters were way too short. I would be enjoying a level and then the final chase/boss would happen. Overall wait for the game to go on sale, and play the 2 game first.
"Little Nightmares" is a captivating horror platformer with stunning graphics and a dark atmosphere. The clever puzzles and unique characters create constant tension. An unforgettable experience that shouldn't be missed!
Amazing game, one of my favorite horror series if not my favorite. Monster concepts are simple and effective, the soundtrack goes as hard as a horror game OST can, and the story serves as a simple and effective 'proof-of-concept' for The Nowhere and LN as a whole.
My only two problems are 1, the performance. (I have a pretty good computer and had to turn everything to the lowest in order for 144 FPS but even then there were 3-4 times where it would drop to below 10.) And my biggest issue, the controller rumble. It's a great idea if used effectively but it was used poorly in this game and brought me out of a already short game.
9/10. Looking forward to playing LN2 and LN3 later this year.
Short but very sweet is the best way I can put it, really forces you to investigate your environments to solve problems and progress as well as testing your quick thinking and reaction times to lethal situations. Casual players might not enjoy this game as much but those who enjoy a good challenge will find this appealing.
A few minor bugs got me stuck but there were so many checkpoints to the point that I don't think it really made a difference in my play-through.
Got this on sale for £3.99 ($5.16) but I think it's worth the original £8.99 ($11.62) that it has, absolutely would recommended this game.
= = = = = SPOILERS WARNING! = = = = =
I do have one critic with the blind man. He was very difficult to understand for a first major enemy and I had trouble trying to figure out how to manipulate his movements, going back and forth between running and crouching and taking at least 10 tries to pass him which took me out of the story a little bit. I still don't 100% understand how he works programming wise despite it being obvious that he is blind and you have to be quiet so he doesn't hear your next movements. Other than that he was a fun challenge once I got a semi-rhythm down.
★★★★★ 5/5 stars. Splendid game!!
Exceptionally striking art style.
Engaging game play, very fun physics-based platformer. Character movement / controls are satisfying.
Gripping suspense and horror moments. Very well paced, fun puzzles.
Great set pieces, fun stealth segments.
Excellent sound design.
Love the lil mushroom guys!
Nothing I say can really encapsulate how darn good this game is, and how worth your time and money it is. I would highly recommend it.
Duuude okay
Let me get this straight, Little Nightmares is awesome. If you're hesitating whether or not to buy it, I highly recommend you do so. I haven't even got to the ending, but everything about the game so far has been amazing, especially the graphics and the atmosphere. My only criticism is that some sections can feel a bit annoying if you have to repeat them.

Great art, Great story, Great sound, Game controls can be a little annoying.
