A fun puzzle platformer.
The art style was nice and cute, but the music was grand and fantastic.
In terms of story, it's simple but interesting but the way it told it was quite cool, the way it showed multiple of our lives and reincarnations was nice, although I do think that they make him think of himself as much worse than was shown, from all that we see he's not even that bad, only in one of the lives is something he does bad his fault. I do think there are some weird points though, for example, why would the afterlife be THIS fragile? I feel like since it's this fragile when it's just one soul doing it, then it would have been destroyed a long time ago but that's just what I think.
In terms of gameplay, pretty good, if we want we can have some assistance in the options with invincibility and game speed which is a great touch (especially when doing achievements), the puzzles are good and all the different powers were different from each other which made it have a nice variety of puzzles with nothing beeing too much of the same, the artifacts we can get also help in us being able to do it in different ways, overall nicely designed. There were some points of frustration here and there but not as much as in other platformers, so that's nice. There is one thing though, why would falling ice affect you in the void dimension power? Since we basically go into the background I don't see how we'd die from falling ice... But that's what I think.
The achievements can be quite a pain to get though.
Overall, a cute game with a fantastic soundtrack, an interesting story and some very good puzzle platforming.
Evergate is the most underrated gem I've ever found, and Im so glad to be review number 100. I got it cheap expecting an alright short game, but holy shit I was so surprised by the quality of basically every aspect of it.
Coming up with strategies is so fun because the gameplay is constructed in a very unique way, that allows for many solutions/skips to be done with the variety of artifacts you find, which you can generally get some use of in many situations if you're creative.
Thats not to take away from the "intentional" ways to beat levels, that also feel very clean to do.
In terms of length I expected way less, but thanks to the artifacts replayability of levels in order to get speed badges after doing then normally is not only worth doing, but probably my favorite part of the game. There's also some fun (I think kickstarter created) bonus levels, and im not even done with the game after 11 hours, because of achievement hunting if you're into that.
The other insane thing about this game, which I feel like should be the reason a lot of people have at least heard of, is the damn ost, its sooo good and I've been listening to some stuff from it outside of the game too. I cant believe this only has 10 likes on youtube despite being one of my favorite songs from a game I've heard all year.

Story is not a big part of the game at all, but its pretty compelling and its implemented well with the other stuff.
This game is just amazing, its a crime how underrated it is, and Im gonna be preaching it like crazy to try and get more people to check it out
Such a delight. This game is much more than I first thought. Easy to get going, couch compatible and you will sure laugh out dying.
Age rating should be around 5+ I'd think. My daughter of 5 y.o. girl had a blast. The story is not easy at first, but also shown in snapshots and frames so it is easier to explain. No graphic elements, no jumpscares as in Ori etc.
Extremely fun puzzle platformer. Power ups available throughout allow you to solve puzzles in different ways too. Absolutely worth the purchase.
Positive Review of Evergate

Introduction: Released in 2020, Evergate is a puzzle platformer developed by Stone Lantern Games. Set in a charming fantasy world, the game combines emotional storytelling with innovative gameplay, offering a unique experience that appeals to both platformer fans and those who enjoy a good story.
Narrative and Setting: Evergate tells the story of Ki, a young spirit who ventures through a celestial realm in search of answers about his own existence and what happened to his former life. The narrative is presented in a sensitive and poetic manner, with themes of discovery, loss, and hope. The story is told through cinematics, dialogue, and text that complement the gameplay experience and add depth to the storyline.
The game’s setting is simply stunning, with storybook-inspired visuals and world designs that evoke a sense of wonder and calm. Each level is a visually rich setting, with a vibrant color palette and meticulous attention to detail that help create a sense of immersion in the celestial world.
Gameplay: Evergate’s gameplay is a well-balanced combination of platforming and puzzle-solving. The game stands out for its unique “Kibou” system, which allows the player to manipulate the environment and overcome obstacles in creative ways. The Kibou is a mechanic based on a type of orb that Ki uses to create bridges, float, and interact with the world in different ways. This adds a layer of strategy and innovation to the gameplay, requiring players to think critically to solve the challenges presented.
The levels are designed with a gradual progression of difficulty, allowing players to get used to the mechanics and use them in increasingly complex ways as they progress. The combination of fluid platforming and clever puzzles provides a gameplay experience that is both challenging and rewarding.
Technical and Visual Aspects: Visually, Evergate is a spectacle. The 2D art is rich and detailed, with a visual style that stands out for its beauty and originality. The animation is smooth and the transitions between the different environments are well-executed, contributing to the immersion in the game world. The soundtrack, composed by Hiroki Kikuta, is equally impressive, with atmospheric music that perfectly complements the environment and narrative, creating an immersive listening experience.
Pros:
Emotional Storytelling: The story is engaging and poetic, with deep themes and a sensitive presentation that resonates with players.
Innovative Mechanics: The Kibou system offers a fresh and creative approach to puzzle-solving and exploration.
Stunning Visual Aesthetics: The 2D art is rich and detailed, with a vibrant color palette that enriches the visual experience.
Atmospheric Soundtrack: The music is engaging and complements the game's narrative and environment, contributing to an immersive experience.
Areas for Improvement:
Platforming Challenges: Some players may find certain platforming challenges a bit repetitive, especially in later levels.
Puzzle Difficulty: For some, the difficulty of the puzzles may feel unbalanced, with some solutions being more complex than necessary.
Conclusion: Evergate is a delightful gaming experience that combines emotional storytelling with innovative gameplay and stunning visual aesthetics. With its unique Kibou mechanics and rich presentation, the game offers an experience that is both challenging and rewarding. If you’re looking for a game that combines a deep story with creative puzzles and stunning visuals, Evergate is an excellent choice that promises a memorable and engaging journey.
