Sorry, I'm going to be cruel. This is kanji's flashcard style at it most basic and nothing else. You are much better off to just google a list of Joyo Kanji, copy paste them in a text-document and go from there. At least that way you can keep track of what you've learned and not. This app also looks very cheap and is way overpriced. A dollar would have been fair.
I like the idea of steam achievements for each level of kanji you complete, it's a shame the implementation is so poor and it's so bare bones.

I turned it up to all Joyo Kanji and feel challenged. The only thing I wish this app had was a choice to start having it give you kanji compounds. I see compounds a lot in Japan and often I may know each individual kanji, but not the double or triple character.
Like the other reviews say, this is good for people who have already studied the kanji here. Also, most people do not learn EVERY single pronunciation of every kanji, so I find the pronunciation quizzes to be too cluttered. This game really shines when it comes to the meaning quizzes, which is great if you're a person who would prefer to study the meaning first.
First of all, if you really want to learn kanji, use a real app like Wanikani.
It's just flash cards. I use this game for fun sometimes but don't recommend it. If you want it, at least get it super cheap, but not the overly expensive $10 asking price. It's a very minimal game. The UI is clunky. Setting custom decks and going back is all confusing and you can't save the custom decks. The font they use is very bad. It's very jaggedy and looks weird. It's not how you would normally see the kanji, making this game unnecessarily more difficult. It doesn't save any statistics on how well you do so it's all self governed. There is no intelligence added to this game. Learning the sounds of each kanji is horrific because you're dealing with the horrible font and and it only displays all the sounds at once. It also uses very uncommon English words to define a lot of the kanji which makes it harder to learn. Do you know what "filial piety" or "sect" means? Exactly. Whoever made this app used some kind of weird auto translator. It's hard to learn Kanji if I don't know what the English meanings mean in English. This alone makes the game unplayable for me. The developers should really look into other apps to see what they do as examples for what makes a good kanji learning experience.
Overall, if repetitive flashcards is your thing, you might learn some kanji from this, but without vocab and the sounds to properly compliment the kanji, you wont really get far here.

It does have a ton of kanjis, but I find this program more useful to do quizzes once you ALREADY have studied and learned kanji, so you can practice.
As I don't find this program IMO friendly enough to use it as a learning tool, I surfed the net a little and found that students use kanji flash cards where they have the kanji, the order of the strokes, pronunciation (both), examples, and translation. Anyways, in this year and age I didn't want to spend a lot of money printing the cards, so I opened Google store and lo and behold, there is an app (the are more obviously, but this one is the one I downloaded) called Kanji Study that at first glance looks very promising (I still don't know how much it cost since the first level is free, but if it is 10 € or less, it will be a no brainer).
If you know other apps or programs that have helped you, don't hesitate to comment.
Overall a really useful study aide. Unfortunately, custom practice lists can't be saved, which is a huge drawback. Infectious theme song, in whole tones :P
Study Kanji come here and just take like a unofficial test if you pass your learning something. I wouldnt use this to firmly get a grasp on kanji however. But use it like a review/test. Get some Genkouyoushi paper, buy a basic kanji book come here practice learn stroke order and shit real good stuff. cant beat it for 2 bucks just a game to see how your doing
Very useful, you're also gonna need a notebook and a pencil if you're serious about learning however.
Use the directory to learn characters in sets of 5 and practice writing, then use the quiz as review tool. Works wonders.
It is indeed a pretty good tool for reviewing and learning the meaning and pronunciation of all the Joyo Kanji. So far, it has taught me quite a few already that I've put to use, so it's definitely worth it in my opinion. Sometimes the meaning of the Kanji seems pretty skewed, such as 礼 meaning "Thanks" instead of the more fitting "Formality" which can be a mild wig out when playing, but it's not that big a deal.
Side note, it never goes on sale so just buy it when you have the funds.
I enjoy this game and it has been helpful to me. It is simple and that is something I like about it over other Japanese review games. It is direct and to the point and has little to no learning curve. I have been learning Japanese very slowly over the last couple years and I've had difficulty with finding a way to study Kanji that works for me. This game keeps me interested and is a fun break from writng the kanji over and over. I also personally feel that it is extremely useful to interact with the kanji in quick and random way. I really like the game and the features the developer has added recently are very useful as well! More than worth the money.
You get what you pay for. It's a cute little compact testing tool for the Joyo kanji. It does what it says and nothing more. I definitely think there's a few features that could be added to further improve the game, mainly a bit more optimization and better bounding boxes for the selection areas on answers. Still, it's fun to have and isn't a major investment.
