I first played this game as a kid, back in 2013, when I got v0.23.5 Alpha through 'certain' means. As a kid obsessed with space and rocketry, I absolutely loved it, even though my old netbook could barely run it. Now that I'm old enough to buy it for myself and have a PC that can actually run it, I can say that the game still holds up absolutely fantastically, 11 years later. Mod support is also excellent, and visual mods can make this a completely new game. A shame what happened to the sequel though.
the physics kind of suck but its pretty fun 9/10 becomes 11/10 w mods
Really fun, but very challenging, space flight simulator. Unforgiving physics. But a lot of fun.
Best space game ever. It is so hard. ive played for 3 months and im just getting to the mun. but it feels so good when you get a space station in orbit, or make a cool plane. It is a teeny bit buggy though. 9/10.
its a great game with decent physics, the graphics are not good but great with mods. would reccomend
I'm no rocket scientist by any means, but I do have a very solid understanding of aerodynamics, thrust/propulsion, air density impacts, gravity...blah blah blah...physics. Clearly the developers of this title have an understanding of such 'physics' as well, WELL beyond my self glorified levels. It makes you think about what you are trying to do and have to consider the pros/cons of each decision. This reminds me of MS Space Simulator from back in the day, only SO much more involved and greater attention to detail. The absolute elation you feel when successfully landing your Kerbals on the Mun, we wont count the number of attempts that either ended in being stuck in solar orbit, stranded in a 16km orbit out of fuel around the Mun...the countless craters created. I could go on and on, suffice it to say I would recommend this to anyone. From one developer to another, Great Job and hats off to the teams!!
This is a truly quirky, fun, serious or not-so-serious (depending on your play-style) amazing rocket building and space-mission simulator.
You can build rockets, planes, space planes, orbiters, landers, rovers, stretching the bounds of what you think you're capable of.
Not everything's easy, it takes some serious planning later in the game to be successful and reach those final planets, or setting up communication arrays, but nothing a few quick google searches can't help prepare you for.
I would recommend watching a YouTube on how to rendevous in space, that's pretty hard to get without some prior knowledge.
The developers made Kerbals the cutest, most hilarious characters, the whole game is wholesome and well developed in a very pleasing way. Give it a go, you won't be dissappointed, I recommend trying to get to the Mun at least.
This game if you have the knowledge and know how to build the correct rocket it has great modding and I love it
There are so many great mods for this game, most notably the graphical mods, with those mods this game is spectacular!
good educational game , its fun, clean, and silly, worth the price if in to Rockets. (played 52 hours wen posted)
A great work of art. best ksp game thus far. High Quality despite one bug almost screwing my Jool mission. Thank god for quicksaves. GET IT NOW STOP SCROLLING THE REVIEWS
This is one of the greatest games ever made. Highly recommend looking into graphics mods in 2024.
With all the mods you can install with this game, you can actually make ksp a good sequel
KSP is an amazing game, even with the Kraken running about. It definitely deserves a sequel, too bad that never happened.
While what was promised with KSP2 likely won't be happening, KSP1 is a great alternative to the hopes and dreams built up towards KSP2.
In the regular game, without DLC, it's a great way to understand the basics of orbital mechanics, rocket physics, and so much more. If you're starting out, I would recommend going with science mode, as to not be overwhelmed. There's a lot to the game, so starting off with limited parts can help tremendously with learning. Even if it takes you hundreds of hours to learn how each part works, how the physics works, etc, that's all okay. All of us strive to be like those channels online doing crazy things, but most of us still haven't landed on Eeloo :P
If you ever need additional help not found in the game, there's always online help too! There's a tonnnnnnnnn of youtube tutorials on the concepts demonstrated in the game, and how to utilize them well. All the way down to how to start an engine, towards building SSTOs and other impressive stuff!
And if you're a player who's proud of how far you've gone, and want more to see, more to do, there's always DLC and mods. The DLC in the game is pretty fun to mess around with, but mods truly change the game. Visual mods, planet packs, part mods, etc. Modded KSP1 can get pretty close to what was promised in KSP2. Modding KSP1 is incredibly simple and quick too! Personally, here's some mods that I feel truly invoke what KSP2 was meant to be for me:
Basically all of Nertea's mods
- Near Future Parts
- Far Future Parts
- VAB Part Organizer
- Restock
Visual Mods
- Restock & Restock +
- Scatterer
- Deferred
- Magpie Mods
- Ztheme
- Waterfall
- TUFX
- Parallax
- Distant Object
- Pood's Skyboxes
- Camera Tools
Planet Packs
- Kcalbeloh System
- Other Worlds
- RSS (Tbh, not KSP2 feeling. RSS is more... its own entire game lol)
Mods Which Add / Change Important Features
- Better Time Warp
- Space Dust
- Community Tech Tree
- System Heat
- Extraplanetary Launchpads (Though a bit outdated)
Part Mods
- Near Future Parts
- Far Future Parts
- Cryo Engines
- Space Station Expansion Redux
- Heat Control
And the modding community for KSP is still very much alive, and has been adding a ton of new content for KSP1 ever since KSP2 "shut down". All the mods I have listed are just the ones that exist currently, and I have no doubt more will be added which will forever change modded KSP.
KSP can be a simple game for those interested in space travel, those who want to explore other planets or moons, those who want to build colonies or space stations, those who want a difficult yet realistic experience, those who just want to mess around with the parts and do totally humane things :P, and so much more!
In KSP 1 you can do all kinds of stuff that involves going really fast. Along with doing weird stuff you can actually play the game, {I know, eww right} such as recreating rockets that have actually exsisted in real life. So download this game and have some space involved fun.
The greatest semi-realistic space simulator game on the planet. Nothing compares to the feeling of sending Jebadiah to the moon and seeing him actually return in one piece and not in a ball of fire. Would probably recommend
This is one of my all-time favorite games. I have many, many memories of playing this game as a teenager. I've been playing since it was in early-access. In fact, I was playing when only the size 1.25 parts were available and there were only like 15 parts total. The game has come a long way since then. There's so much to do and see that you truly will never run out of things to do.
I'm disappointed with the results of the sequel. As of the writing of this review, KSP2 is completely stalled in development and the entire dev team has been laid off. It's sad to think that it will likely never be finished.
As for this game, buy it. You won't regret it in the slightest. One of the best PC games made this century.
Great game with great physics and tons of mods available. Strongly recommend.
this is a fun game for me or you this would be better if you were intrested in space also you can get to the moon or other planets you can get out the space ship this was fun hope you have a good time playing
This Game is so fun you can make Space Staiton Go to The Moon (its called the mun) You can go to duna its mars jool jupiter eelo pluto eve idk you can do missions you cna buy the dlc for real misson like the apollo
Very fun to explore different planets and its complete unlike ksp 2
Kerbal Space Program started as a delightful escape, a way to explore the cosmos from the comfort of my couch. But as I dove deeper into the game, it consumed more and more of my time. Hours turned into days, and the thrill of building rockets and launching missions overshadowed everything else. I neglected my health, stopped exercising, and turned to snacks for comfort during those late-night gaming sessions. Now, I find myself trapped in a cycle of obsession, weighing in at 862.6 pounds. What began as a passion for exploration spiraled into a struggle with my reality, where the only missions I seem to embark on are to the fridge or back to my gaming chair, leaving my dreams of adventure replaced by a heavy burden.
Very good but it sometimes makes your brain melt if you dont know what you are doing (like me)
still very good game, orbiting probes and satalites are fun and a basic thing. fun yes good.
great game love it worth the money love the kerbals and there goofy antics and reactions the physics are nice and smooth love it please buy.
Kerbal Space Program is not merely a game; it's a captivating simulation of celestial mechanics, a testament to the elegance of Newtonian physics wrapped in a whimsical package. Unlike frivolous space shooters that disregard the fundamental laws of the universe, KSP compels players to grapple with the intricacies of gravitational forces, aerodynamic principles, and orbital maneuvers. It's a playground for the scientifically curious, a digital canvas where aspiring rocket scientists can experiment with thrust-to-weight ratios, specific impulse, and delta-v calculations, all while guiding a crew of adorable green Kerbals on their audacious pursuit of cosmic knowledge.
The game's brilliance lies in its ability to translate complex astrophysical concepts into an engaging and intuitive experience. Constructing a viable spacecraft necessitates a nuanced understanding of the Tsiolkovsky rocket equation, the interplay between atmospheric drag and lift, and the delicate dance between gravitational forces and centrifugal acceleration. Yet, KSP masterfully avoids becoming an impenetrable physics lecture, instead fostering an environment of playful experimentation, where players learn through iterative design, meticulous observation, and the occasional (or frequent) catastrophic disassembly of their meticulously crafted creations. Whether you're attempting to achieve a stable geostationary orbit, execute a Hohmann transfer to a neighboring planet, or navigate the intricate gravitational ballet of a multi-body system, every successful maneuver is a testament to your growing mastery of the underlying physics.
This immersive gameplay is further enhanced by a diverse array of game modes tailored to different scientific aspirations. Sandbox mode provides an unbounded realm for unfettered experimentation, allowing players to explore the limits of rocketry without the constraints of resource management or technological limitations. Science mode introduces a more structured progression, where the pursuit of knowledge drives technological advancement, mirroring the iterative nature of real-world scientific endeavors. And for those who yearn for the complexities of a full-fledged space agency, Career mode adds layers of fiscal responsibility and strategic planning, requiring players to balance research budgets, fulfill lucrative contracts, and navigate the political landscape while pushing the boundaries of space exploration.
But the true marvel of Kerbal Space Program lies in its capacity to foster a thriving community of passionate learners and dedicated explorers. A tireless collective of modders continuously expands the game's universe, introducing realistic aerodynamic models, intricate life support systems, and even n-body gravitational simulations that challenge the very foundations of the Kerbal universe. This ensures that KSP remains an ever-evolving tapestry of scientific inquiry and creative expression, offering endless opportunities for discovery and innovation.
Of course, mastering the intricacies of rocket science is not without its tribulations. The learning curve can be as steep as a rocket's trajectory, demanding patience, analytical thinking, and a willingness to embrace failure as a stepping stone to success. Explosions, crashes, and unplanned lithobraking maneuvers are an inevitable part of the Kerbal experience, serving as valuable lessons in the unforgiving realities of space travel. Moreover, the game's computational demands can sometimes lead to performance bottlenecks, especially when simulating complex orbital mechanics or rendering intricate spacecraft designs.
Despite these minor imperfections, Kerbal Space Program stands as an unparalleled masterpiece, a testament to the power of interactive learning and the inherent human fascination with the cosmos. It's a game that encourages curiosity, rewards experimentation, and inspires a deep appreciation for the elegance and complexity of the universe. So, don your lab coat, adjust your trajectory calculations, and prepare to embark on an unforgettable voyage with the Kerbals, where the pursuit of knowledge knows no bounds, and the laws of physics are your playground.
This game is perfect, the graphics are mid I will admit that, but the game-play it just makes you not notice the graphics (Besides if you don't like the graphics you can just install eve mod).
Kerbal Space Program (KSP) stands as one of gaming's most remarkable achievements, masterfully blending realistic physics, engineering challenges, and pure sandbox creativity into an unforgettable space exploration experience.
Design and Gameplay
At its core, KSP puts you in charge of an entire space program, complete with eager (if somewhat accident-prone) Kerbal astronauts. The game's genius lies in its physics-based gameplay, where every rocket must contend with actual principles of aerodynamics, thrust-to-weight ratios, and orbital mechanics. This creates a learning curve that's as rewarding as it is challenging.
The game excels in three main areas:
Ship Building: The vehicle assembly system offers unprecedented freedom in spacecraft design. From simple rockets to complex space stations, players can construct virtually anything they can imagine using a vast array of parts. Each component behaves according to realistic physical properties, making every design decision meaningful.
Flight Mechanics: The flight model is impressively authentic, requiring players to understand concepts like staging, optimal ascent profiles, and delta-v budgets. Successfully achieving orbit for the first time feels like a genuine accomplishment, and more complex maneuvers like orbital rendezvous provide even greater challenges.
Mission Planning: Whether following career mode objectives or setting personal goals in sandbox mode, planning and executing space missions provides deep strategic satisfaction. The game encourages both methodical planning and creative problem-solving.
Learning Experience
One of KSP's greatest strengths is how it naturally teaches real rocket science concepts through gameplay. Players often find themselves learning about orbital mechanics, atmospheric drag, and spacecraft systems almost without realizing it. The game has even been recognized by NASA and SpaceX professionals for its educational value.
Community and Modding
The game boasts a vibrant community that has produced thousands of mods, ranging from visual enhancements to new parts and mission scenarios. This extensive modding ecosystem extends the game's already considerable replay value.
Visual and Technical Merit
While the graphics might not be cutting-edge, the cartoonish Kerbals and clean visual style create a perfect balance between accessibility and functionality. The game's physics engine performs admirably, handling complex calculations while remaining stable enough for elaborate constructions.
Verdict
Kerbal Space Program is more than just a game – it's a platform for creativity, learning, and exploration. Its unique blend of realistic physics, engaging gameplay, and endless possibilities makes it an essential experience for anyone interested in space, engineering, or simply enjoying a deep, rewarding game. The satisfaction of successfully landing on another planet after carefully planning and executing a mission is unmatched in gaming.
The occasional bugs and steep learning curve are minor complaints against what is otherwise an extraordinary achievement in game design. For those willing to invest the time to learn its systems, KSP offers hundreds of hours of compelling gameplay and the chance to experience the thrill of space exploration firsthand.

Amazing game, amazing mods, amazing everything. I would really recommend this game as a space guy.
Among the best space sim ever created. The learning curve are steep. But after gasping the basics, you will appreciate more the human's effort to conquer the infinity and beyond.
It is sadden that the sequel turn out to be a piece of abandoned trash. So yeah still visited this game back once in a while if i crave some space crafting and do some crazy space shit.
Wow what an incredible game! I wanted to be an astronaut when I was in the sixth grade, and am a big engineering nerd so this game is FANTASTIC. I was afraid it would be too science-y, but DO NOT WORRY they have extensive, simplified training modules to help you along. More games need this level of instruction, for sure.
ksp1 has a LOT of choices when it comes to modding: there's community bug fixes, quality of life, new planets or even whole star systems, real life solar system, autopilot, weather effects, etc
the game still slaps hard in late 2024, worth every cent
yes, installing a lot of mods requires a beefy pc, but the result is absolutely worth it, its absolute PEAK
the game is fun you explore. but some times the game crashes randomly.
This game causes a genuine start for any interests related to engineering, aerospace, and anything related to those fields.
I tried explaining to my Nephew that the mission is only successful if the Kerbals make it back to the planet safely. He just laughed as he took one on a space walk and left him in space without fuel.
This game literally teaches you physics and orbital mechanics while enjoying the flight of your very own rocket that you can build
if your up to the challenge of learning orbital mechanics and basic rocket science then give it go
very fun with mods and the kerbals r great11!!1!
its realy fun, build spaceships, and many other things
I am not the best at this game but im just gonna say it this game is really really good its way better than ksp2 i highly recommend this game if you like space games!
