I began using Rocksmith around March of 2023 trying to 60 days learn guitar challenge. Bought this title on sale many years ago with the desire to finally pick up and learn guitar when the time was right. Finally was able to to pick up that guitar, and honestly I couldn't be happier with this title. With comprehensive schooling to teach you the basics with progress to pick up and go to the mastery level skills I'm nowhere near. See this removed off the Steam store last year was fairly disheartening. Especially with the underwhelming reports of it's successor Rocksmith+.
With over 375+ hours of real time playing time it's been the most frustrating and rewarding process to pick up and learn the music you love on guitar, and even some of the stuff you've never heard. On top of instructor lessons there are arcade style games to help improve your skills, a arcade mode in the lieu of guitar hero where you can fail out, and that doesn't even come close to playing the music you choose to. To top if off it gives you jam band options for practice without a script, and a ton of options to customize and make your own tones with various sound gear items. I mainly play music now, but the options are vast for what's in the package. Plenty of stats and tracking numerics too to keep you seeing where your'e at.
With the numerous DLC available for purchase and the modded CDLC community only will expand your library into the thousands of titles to choose from. CustomForge has only beyond expanded those options for near endless choices of music with their community putting out new stuff daily.
Now Ubisoft gets a ton of flak nowadays, but I can't be happier enough for them putting this title out there. It's give myself and many others a chance to pick up a guitar with a instructor without having to show up somewhere and spend a ton of money on an instructor. If you got the small admission price to get this, a cheap electric guitar laying about, and around 25 USD for a USB Rocksmith guitar cable (Amazon) I couldn't recommend this title more. The amount of content alone for the current price is beyond its value for the skills learned.
Grew up in a musically inclined family, and loved Guitar Hero and Rocksmith when it dropped. To finally have the ability to actually play the music now and each time only helps your skill improve. I'd pay full price for that any day. Want to get away from the monotony of gaming and take a chance of learning guitar then I can't recommend something any more than this. I'll keep crudely chipping away for now... maybe you might too. Maybe.
Thought I could be one of the lucky ones that somehow get this to work. I can't get it to boot up past the initial loading screen without a crash to desktop. I have the original Rocksmith on Xbox but was hoping to get it for my PC as I've moved away from consoles, very disappointing.
The game is Pretty good and for 3 dollars rn definitely a steal but it is horribly maintained.
If this game dosnt run on your pc here are a few things you can do:
- Install DirectX9
- Install the CDLC enabler
- Install RSmod
- Look up Audio device hard limit
and if everything fails go to their discord, they are very helpful and very quick to help.
Just to the unaware potential buyer, I have multiple copies of Rocksmith 2014. Both on PS and Steam, have for years. Ubisoft has updated this game, breaking it and I cannot even launch it and my cable no longer works for PS. They will NOT fix this, they do not care because there is Rocksmith+ which is a new subscription based Rocksmith re-imagining. With the intent to kill their game, taking away purchases others and I've had for years all in the name of profit. DO NOT BUY. IT IS BROKEN. Unless you want to troubleshoot with people online for days, manipulate game files, download and install peer made fixes that may or may not work (nothing has worked for me). This was a GREAT product, now it's just an intentionally broken mess by a greedy company that it's own employees are boycotting. Save your money, learn online, STAY AWAY and please, STOP BUYING UBISOFT PRODUCTS.
*Update*: I've finally restored functionality to the game. Unfortunately, now I am chasing other issues. It can be fixed, albeit with more problems you'll have to chase down. Would I now change my opinion? No. All fixes were from peers, I've stumbled across maybe one or two Ubisoft possible solutions that had mixed results for others and none for me. I would wager most people come to Steam for ease of use, AKA convenience, and this game is not that with new gen computers. Ubisoft has gone downhill over the years and I still believe they're trying to gouge their customers for every penny. If you want to buy it, you can make it playable with considerable time and patience, but I would not recommend buying it with that in mind.
Terrible software, decent for practice. TBH I hate ubisoft and everything they stand for. The day this company dies I will celebrate. Beware having two monitors as it will force a weird resolution. Don't buy this game. Let this company burn in the hell they deserve to be in.
IMPORTANT - This game does not come with any of the songs on the original CD. You will have to pay for them all individually if you want them!
With that out of the way, the game has fun challenges and an "arcade mode" which I think is a fun way to learn the guitar. If you want songs go to CustomsForge and you'll have to watch the videos. It's not too complicated but I could see it being aggrevating if you are not tech savy at all. All in all I think worth the 3 dollars on sale. But not probably worth any more than 5 since it comes with no songs.
If most or all of the tracks you want to play are CDLC on CustomsForge, I would highly recommend this, as it is a more fun and interactive way to learn guitar.
If not, then I wouldn't recommend this. DLC gets delisted almost monthly, and even the DLC that is still up can be arguably pricey.
Don't buy it unless you plan on buying all the tracks or modding in tracks. None of the songs from the original edition are included.
Most people leaving negative reviews dont know about CustomsForge - CF(Google it nerds) - or can buy DLC on steam..... CF finally released patch and now songs work in this version.
This game and a good friend can teach u how to play can and take u really far if u use it correctly in ur journey to rock stardom in ur living room, bedroom or basement. I have it done up on a laptop even this game might even run on a radpberry pi but thats beyond my capabilities
Get a after market cable off amazon or down the road mod it to use a interface and get a real guitar cable its light years better the modding community is legendary for this game
Down side is dlc cost for songs is quite steep but theres ways to get some custom songs easily in the community
why remove every single song from the game and put it back on the store? what's the point?
Worst scam in the universe. Ubisoft are making another poor choice with this new edition of Rocksmith. But now take all the songs out... What do you get? Rocksmith...Practice. I don't even want that I want the songs that were in the base game.
I'll just find it somewhere else.
Don't sell something if you can live up to what the product was in 2014.
No money for you Ubisoft.
Ubisoft more like
ShitSoft
The game as a whole is underwhelming, but fun. I would highly suggest **NOT** buying this game as of current, the mods are broken and RS ASIO, CLDC, etc are not working because the game's changed a bit. But if they do start working once again, I would highly reccomend. Some pointers are that the real-tone cable is a fucking piece of shit, use a audio interface with either a direct-input mod or when it does start working again, RS ASIO. Other from that, don't buy the DLCS. There's a steam guide to get (most) songs for free.
to get past profiles screen, you have to go in task manager and set affinity to only use two cores
alleged mod enabler now exists so u do u
I'm mixed. Yay we have the old game back but where's the setlist? I swear this game had so many good songs but now it's just practice/tutorial. They try to sell this under "free dlc". You get 1 song without the "free dlc". 1 song. Just give us the old songs back and allow mods.
you can always count on Ubishite to be an embarrassment and a disappointment.
for them to have the same bugs from before they delisted the game off steam, hell even the same bugs that were there when the game released... oh and to remove every single song from the game. but not all is lost they "UPDATED" the game (dec 19,2024) sure it doesn't fix any problems instead it breaks custom forge so you cant even play anything.
god i hope they do go bankrupt.
for those that have robotic stutter audio when booting the game this vid may help you:
https://youtu.be/u1yohRlbH80?si=AxyeTTyfBI3rLkr1
if you boot the game up and the resolution is too large:
right click Rocksmith2014.exe
click on properties > compatibility > change high dpi setting > override high DPI scaling behavior. scaling performed by: "application"
press ok and apply settings.
since they removed all the songs from base game:
🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️ sites exist. not sure you can play them right now anyway because again the update, but im sure someones working on a fix for that.
Rocksmith 2014 Edition REMASTERED LEARN & PLAY is a repacked version of the original remastered version with all licensed music removed. I no longer recommend this product as the main selling point of being able to learn to play songs you've heard or like is no longer possible, and I do not feel the remaining content is enough to justify the price - especially when the purchase of the real tone cable or other method of interfacing your guitar audio with the game is required.
I like the original version of this game, but I find it very strange that they used the existing Steam page to list this inferior version. The standout, though possibly unintentional, feature was the ability to use custom song charts. Those custom charts do not work in the LEARN & PLAY version of the game.
Finally, I do not think Rocksmith+, the more recent subscription based version, is worth the subscription cost to consider purchasing, and because of that, I do not think any version of this game is currently worth the asking price.
Sucks that they had to take down the game over music licenses but it's understandable and at least they took the effort to make a version they could offer with no copyright issues.
Now it just needs to be modded to play custom songs, wake me up when I can install the removed songs as CDLC.
Buy it quick, before they take it down again. This is my second time of buying this, this time for myself. More of a learning tool than "Guitar Hero with a real guitar" nowadays. Not that it is a bad thing. The included song selection is lackluster, as it contains no songs. Only thing available there are generic lessons, so this is useless if you are looking into learning how to play a specific song. A decade ago there was Iron Maiden and whatnot available, but not anymore.
But if you are looking to improve your overall guitar skills, it might be worth it. This could be the motivator you need to get you pick up your guitar and play. I had a good time in the band mode, just jamming with an interactive backing track that reacts on how you play, which is better than static track from youtube.
You can also use this to test out different pedals and amps, but as with the songs, the selection is really basic.
RS_ASIO doesnt work atm so you cant use an audio interface yet you need a realtone cable or just wait until they update it
its back on steam and not as good (less songs) as before but still a great way to learn and practice
for anyone who wants to learn or has even considered learning, this is definitely the ticket to do so. I've used this game ever since it came out, when I was 7 years old, and have been on and off of it, between this and self learning using online sources, tabs, charts, and whatever else I could get my hands on, including books. definitely something that will help tremendously in terms of technique, and just being able to capture and learn very necessary skills. as of right now, that its back on steam, buy it and start learning with it, because im sure it will leave again and there will never be a better game nor learning system quite like this.
I got it way before it got originally delisted but buy Cherub Rock DLC and then try modding in Custom DLCs made by the community, the game becomes incredible with the amount of songs that you can play for free, or even be able make them yourself if you watch some tutorials and whatnot
RS2014 is back on sale! The included songs are not very noteworthy, but the core game can be purchased and played for hopefully the foreseeable future. Even without many songs the core lessons, Guitarcade minigames and Session Mode are all great exercises and places to learn. I thank all of my guitar knowledge to this game and while I'm not great, if given a tab and enough time to practice I can more often than not play any typical song. It demonstrates that almost anyone can play guitar if you stick with it and it does a great job of at least teaching the basics. If you're picking up this game for the first time, pay attention to upcoming DLC delistings as stuff leaves about every week, and have fun!
Best way to learn basics of guitar.
Guitar Hero with real guitar.
Hidden gem, I wish more people found out about it someday. Songlist with DLC is incredible, I have I think about 100 song in favorites and it's just a small part. Learn through playing! Enjoy your journey into magnificent world of music!
I liked that it was a one time purchase minus dlc, I don't like that they moved onto a subscription platform with not much more music.
