About the Game
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is a old school style shooter, but remixed for the 21st century with next generation graphics and deep, modern gameplay. Playing is simple: you are a geometric "ship" trapped in a grid world, facing off against waves of deadly wanderers, snakes, and repulsars. Your aim is to survive long enough to set a high score!Avoid the spawning enemies, and shoot them down for points. You can also fire smart bombs, which destroy all bad guys on the screen. Save these up for when the going gets really tough!
The more bad guys you kill, the higher your score multiplier goes (2x, 4x, etc.). The higher your multiplier, the more you can score. But don't die, as you lose your multiplier and have to build it up again from scratch!

Still the best twin-stick shooter out there (sorry Robotron 2084).
Managed to get this working again in Win11 using these directions from Reddit:

Right click --> Properties on Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved in your Steam Library
In "Launch Options", paste the following: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C Start /Normal /Affinity FFFFFFFE "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Geometry Wars\GeometryWars.exe" %command%
Simple and fun. Easily recommended on any platform, including Steam Deck.

I really likes this game because it is a nice little arcade game where you just survive for as long as you can there is no form of permanent progress in this game the only thing that is permanent is it keeps the highscore you get. like you can't get long term upgrades but its still really fun.The enemies are also random they spawn at random times and at random places .The one thing people may dislike about this came is how crowded the screen can get whenever you die .Sometimes I would find the screen getting so crowded where I would die and not even know what killed me.But its still pretty fun from time to time there is a lot of unique enemies and they all do there own unique routine like some of them dodge bullets and other ones absorb bullets but its a really good game.You also get three lives in total and you can get more by getting more points.
Refuses to launch when 3d v cache cores are enabled. Was trouble shooting the game refusing to launch, fixed it by disabling ccd 0 on my 7950x3d, the cores that have 3d v cache. Its safe to say this game will not launch if you have a single ccd x3d cpu, like the 5800x3d or 7800x3d, unless you have a bios which lets you switch between 3d v cache being on or off, which is not common. Other than that, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is a really fun game for a few minutes a year, definitely recommended if its on sale and you've never played it. Reminds me of xbox 360, because of how much I played it on the xbox 360.

The game would be timeless. Unfortunately time has rendered it unplayable on either of my two modern gaming rigs. CTD on one and just a black screen on the other. What a shame. I really loved this game.
