This game has an iconic style, more challenging than it's predecessor and overall more polished than the first installment as well. Absolutely worth playing!
Don't go into this game expecting the same quality as hotline miami 1, it's an overall good game but I ruined it for myself in a lot of ways by expecting and putting it to the same standard as the first game.
Worth it for Jacket in payday 2 too btw
More content from the game I’ve enjoyed the most it the last decade. Love this franchise, it has inspired many games after its overwhelming success.
Soundtrack was ABSOLUTE BANGERS!!! Gameplay was much more enjoyable as compared to the first, and the story was mildly interesting. Difficulty bounces back and forth for myself. Like I'll play a level, "breeze" through it, and then immediately after, I'll be stuck for an hour. I took a break for 2 weeks because the 2nd to last level kicked my butt so much. Either way, quite enjoyable, makes me feel cool.
guns shoot, mask look cool, game awesome.
Peak story and gameplay
(English is my 2 language, so sorry for mistakes). I bought this game for the jacket character in payday 2, decided to play the game (hot line miami 2) for a little bit. The game is good and runs well on my laptop. This game really isn't my style but I like the way how the game looks and plays.
One of the most enjoyable games i have ever played.
The storyline is amazing, the pixel graphics are great, but it has some flows. Aiming and shooting is not as comfortable as i wish it to be. Doors are nightmare fuel - they can save you from certain death and kill you for no reason.
It is still a magnificent addition to your collection of completed games.
Keep in mind, workshop is full of amazing levels. Highly recommend trying Hunter series and The cold one.
this game has amazing music fast paced unique gameplay overall a 10/10 must buy the first and second cool lore
Bought It Cuz PAYDAY 2 Jacket Just To Realize It Had No Jacket In Hotline Miami 2 *Boowhomp* That's Disappointing But Game Is Rather Hard But In A Good Way. But Atleast I Got Jacket In PAYDAY Now Even If........ Well The Ending Will Show
какой колдун ебучий научил собак проходить через стены уебков с дробашом хуярить пулями сквозь стены и ульте оакла
5/10 the first hotline miami game was better the only good thing in this game is the masks everything else is garbage like some missions are borderline impossible and you just have to cheese them which rarely works so yeah play hotline miami instead dont buy this
With all its flaws, like the enemies being able to see you off screen and level design, i still think its worth playing.
Top tier indie game of all time, this series is an absolute playthough. So please drop the money. Yes the game can be hard, but that is aided by the interesting visuals, music and story. My top 10 fav series.
So okay, yeah im a little messed up. so what i kill people for fun. i mean its more of a job if i were to be honest, at 127 hours in this epic game. You get to discover your true inner POS and bloody up the battle field of friendly crack houses and armed fortresses. you know that miami life. So heres the thing, you will see alot of people die, and trust me, it wont be pretty. youll see it in all lights, cuts to the throats, big dudes who slap the shit out of you and kill you immediately. you gotta watch your ass when you are playing this game. But im taking wayyy to long to explain this. Heres all you need to know. Just Dont Die.
The campaign/level design sux(especially compared to 1st game) but its ok because there's custom content now
Hotline Miami 2 is like the first game chugged a liter of energy drink and went on a rampage. More blood? Guns? Swearing? Hell yeah. The gameplay is tighter, faster, and crazier, and the story finally hits its stride — it's like a crime series where it's funny, dramatic, and everyone betrays everyone. If the first game was an experiment, the second is a full-blown blockbuster with bullets, blood, and dark humor. This game is fire, just like everything that goes down in Miami! 🔥
Don't think a better sequel could've been made with more thematic depth and endearing story potential. God I love hotline miami
This sequel feels like the hangover after an already fucked-up bender... n a good way. The violence is exhilarating, but the game punishes you for it.
now this is a true Gem of an indie game! Fast paced relentless shooter with a great story altho very cryptic story.amazing sountrack for every lvl, best top down shooter hands down! 10/10 Masterpiece
I don't think I like hurting other people now :(
I think they made an excellent job continuing the series. They kept what we liked in the first game and put more on it. More and longer chapters, more dialogues, more lore, more challenges... I think story is outstanding, I really enjoyed following it all. No need for spoilers really, just go there and experience it.
Gameplay wise it is same, but level designs made the gameplay a lot better in my case. They get progressively harder and force you to use some skills or discover them. So even if you are decent player, you learn some cool stuff eventually and feel cool to be able to do them despsite not playing it flawlessly. Of course it is also possible to master everything and do never ending combos. They made an iconic gameplay and that's what you'll get. Combined with the theme you all probably know better than me that this game is one of the classics.
I actually had so much fun playing this game after one. Got a little better -despite still being shit at it- and enjoyed it more. One of the rare games that got me hyperfocused about it as I played. It was a fun experience and definitely made me feel something. Worth trying to get into.
Same as the previous game main focus is put into action. As much simplified as it is gameplay is fast, relentless and very brutal also involves a lot of dying (not hair). Be quick or try again type of game. Story not as good as the previous one still might engage you until the end. Soundtrack is punchy and adds to chaotic mayhem. Gameplay gets very messy especially later in the game. Obviously not for everyone.
great game and a worthy sequel, its really sad that we wont get hotline miami 3 but this is a game that had me pumping my fists and laughing with joy throughout my time with it and sometime left me with frustrating because of the game difficulty.
Hotline Miami 2 cranks up everything from the first game—more carnage, more characters, more story twists, and an even more brain-melting soundtrack. It’s bigger, harder, and somehow even more chaotic, throwing you into neon-soaked, ultra-violent rampages with tight, twitchy gameplay that demands split-second decisions.
The story jumps between multiple perspectives, weaving a darker, more complex narrative full of brutality, conspiracy, and existential dread. The level design is larger and deadlier, making it both more challenging and more rewarding when you finally clear a room in a perfectly executed (or completely improvised) massacre.
While the difficulty can be punishing, Hotline Miami 2 delivers an adrenaline-fueled, synthwave-drenched power trip that’s as satisfying as it is unsettling. If you loved the first game and want more everything, this is your next violent fever dream. Just don’t expect mercy.
uh very cool game kinda hard but once you get used to the controls its bery bery neat B)
Synthwave, Violence, action and fantastic soundtrack = best game
Haven't played the original? Do that first. Enjoyed the original? Get this game on sale.
Alright.
Gameplay wise, I think this game was notably more annoying difficult and a bit more jank than the first; to each point, enemy sight lines and numbers are usually brutal, and I remember takedowns feeling a little odd sometimes. I also don't think the combo system changes -- allowing for more downtime at the expense of knockdowns not extending the timer -- are that fun, but I think thematically the idea that "killing is the only thing that matters" is appropriate, and the desperation and trigger-happiness that you develop as you go for high scores also works. At least I thought the use of different characters was fun.
I will give credit to the post-game content and hard mode, if only for the fact that mirroring the layout of every stage is a very creative way of adding difficulty; it makes you appreciate how much of each stage you've had to hard-code into you muscle memory.
If I hadn't shown my hand already, it's the story and theming of this game that sells the experience for me.
This isn't a game about being a silent badass that kills without paying attention to (or knowing about) what's going on. This is a game where you play as a cast of self-centered nutjobs that each face the consequences of putting their own lives above others and participating in systems that serve to put others down. That is what this game is to me. I think this idea gets across well, and the ending feels deserved. Of course, I appreciate the restraint shown on the first game's story, but this one just resonated with me more.
An interesting experience. It was fun to crank out some long nights while in discord calls. I felt satisfied when I 100%ed everything.
As for me, the game is worse than the first part. Limitations of using guns for some characters, and etc make it less chaotic and u feel how the game starts to annoy u after restarting some levels. For me it was just a big disappointment.
It's a fantastic game for its story and gameplay. However, if you're aiming for 100% completion, you'll have to grind through countless kills, which turns into a tedious and unenjoyable task.
One of the best games oat and its a must play if u love a good story. If you dont have it buy it now its on sale alot.
Great sequel. Didn't need to change much from the first game but added much more content. The better I get at choreographing long combos the more I realise the intent in the level design.
The story I found a lot harder to follow, it goes back and forth a lot and there were some references I missed but in the end the story isn't as important as the gameplay which is still really good.
Jogo muito bom !!!!!, eu zerei o hotline Miami 1 em poucos dias de tão bom que o jogo é, recomendo DMS !!!!! .
Even though i did bitch about it being too hard at first, once you get the hang of it, it is an absolute blast. Banger music is playing in your ears, gore amount is YES, and it is very fast-paced. The people that complain about failing and dying too much, they don't understand that dying is very, and i mean VERY frequent. Cheers to those that rage in the fun ways.
Really unique take on a top-down game and it is my favorite of that sort. It is a very hard, but satisfying to learn and get good at game. Soundtrack is absolutely amazing and if it wasn't for the OST, this game would be 10x more frustrating. The level design is okay but in some areas, it just feels like the developers spawned enemies in the most stupidest places ever just to annoy you. Really solid game, 8/10!
...and also screw OFFSCREEN ENEMIES !!!!!!!
a true masterpiece. my favorite game of all time. amazing gameplay, the best ost oat, good story. truly cant say anything bad about this game (other than hard mode dead ahead being very unfair)
10/10
the hotline miami games are a amazing two piece game series that really gives a good story to tell and also good game play and challenging
A really awesome sequel to an amazing game. I remember HM2 getting a lot of imo undeserved hate when it came out, but I think this game delivers. Maybe the only bummer to me is the presence of the war flashback levels, but that doesn't stop this game from being a must play. 9/10
Incredibly fun game, the challenges are fair, and the motion/movement is fluid.
Difficulty is revved up from the first title and lore dives deeper into the world while tying everything together. I believe both games complement each other well, and while there won't be another sequel sadly, there doesn't need to be. Additions in Wrong Number give the player everything they need to enjoy the series. Bravo to the team. They went out with a bang!
this game may be controversial but you should still play it
ps- download the nword map
This second installment is definitely way more demanding than the first, and that is its main justification for existing. Same bugs and quirks make a comeback, but, for the increased difficulty, they become that much more infuriating even in Normal mode, and especially so in the added Hard mode. Core mechanics remain largely unaltered, although some notable changes were introduced.
Gone is the fairly useless human shield mechanic. Combo rules became much more strict - only kills are counted but not knock-downs. Throwing items and indestructible, wildly swinging doors which knock enemies to the floor at the slightest touch are no longer all that much fun. Executions have to be timed to fit within the tight combo-window.
Enemies seem to have better eye-sight, with some positioned behind glass panels - frequently even off-screen, just often enough to be annoying - where they can still see and target the player. Enemies can still shoot through each other, and do not let player's shots pass through them (with the exception of the ducking, firearm-immune enemies who insist on getting up close and personal in melee combat). The game reveals its puzzle component when a tanky, charging enemy notices the player and rushes forward ahead of all others, shielding them from fire; all while you might be sitting on a pile of weapons and frantically switching through melee (useless on the chargers) and empty ones to find a gun with any ammo still in it because the pick up mechanics were left unchanged. Weapons in a pile still get picked up in reverse order they were dropped in (first item dropped gets picked up last). For a bit of added complexity, accidentally - or deliberately - throwing a gun away on Hard mode halves its remaining ammunition.
The level layouts are just convoluted enough to nudge insistently towards diligent memorisation of optimal routing when trying for higher ranks. There is an achievement for getting at least A+ on all levels in Normal mode. There is no such achievement for Hard mode, only one for its completion. No-one is stopping you from S-ranking Hard mode for fun - you would probably at least be doubling your time spent in the game (and snagging the dreaded, grindy 50,000 total kills achievement like it's no bother at all). Dare I say it, killer return on investment right there.
While the second game is still alright for one play-through if you enjoy piecing the fragmented story together, for most people my recommendation would be to just stick to the first game. Only consider the sequel if the original leaves you wanting more of a challenge. A challenge which will require enough time and dedication to learn the levels on a clinically intimate level, along with an equally intimate relationship with Lady Luck.
This game's story is basically a drug trip with insane highs and equally depressing lows which will leave you feeling miserable in the best way possible. A brilliant and ruthless critique of violence as a whole. Now if you'll excuse me, just one more level...
Addictive game with cool soundtrack and much more more story than the first one I liked this one more cause of the story its just one of my favorites and its what got me into indie games it explore the capabilities of indie games for how much content is in there and how engaging it is its true that some levels are difficult but you get used to it with more tries
The second part of HM is easily my favourite one.
There's much more badass songs compared to the first one, more interesting characters to play as, much more of a plot that gets a little too deep with this one, and just vibes that this game delivers. Take as an example Jungle missions, and a flamethrower gameplay aspects. It's so enjoyable, and I love it a little too much.
Playing as masked guys getting on top of the roof and gradually being reduced to ashes is a top notch too.
So much diversity in that gameplay, and a fleur of subtle implications to plot that gets revealed later in the sequence.
I love these series so much and would've liked to see the third one, or the movie, or something related to it.
But all we get are small indie-collabs and Payday 2 masks...
Besides the core gameplay of killing mayhem that derived from HM1, This one is harder in a sense, more like a shift towards a trials and error type of thing, each death gives you a lesson on how to approach and plan out better while keeping everything traditional. Overall it has more replayability than the 1st game due to the inclusion of the steam workshop; which is the only plus. (And GREAT soundtracks too!)
Absolute blast of a game even it is less focused and a bit more unfair than the first one.
A difficult game. So difficult that I forgot about the fun.
I enjoyed the first game, so when I picked up this sequel, I expected more of the same. It's similar but with a larger map, faster enemies, and fewer resources. The real challenge comes from the enemy's ability to spot and shoot you from off screen. They’re always accurate, since this is a one-hit-kill game, it means game over.
My strategy is to go around outside of the first floor, memorizing room layouts and enemy positions. If I need to cross an open area, I take cover nearby and fire a few shots to draw enemies into my sight. For me, firearms are bait and melee weapons are for killing.
The first 10 levels were manageable, though still requiring plenty of trial and error. I thought I was getting the hang of the game, but then things took a turn. The game restricts me from picking up enemy guns, offering open corridors with no cover, and later places 4 riflemen targeting me behind cover. And don’t even get me started on the enemies that rush you with long health bars. Meanwhile, I have no weapon upgrades with limited ammo.
I’m proud to have completed Act 2 in under 4 hours of gameplay, even though that forest level was brutal. But as I progressed, the later levels became unbearable for me.
What makes this even worse is that if you quit the game after reaching floor 2, your progress is lost. This means you have to start all over from floor 1, a huge time waster for me.
Overall, the game’s difficulty feels unbalanced. While I had some fun, I can’t recommend it to others.
My curator page
even better than the first
while it keeps the same gameplay elements it has a higher focus on puzzle solving and navigating maps than reaction time and aim
following multiple characters with varried gameplay is really fun and interesting
somehow the soundtrack got better
the story is one of the best in gaming and its non-linear storytelling makes it very unique
the ending truly stuck with me, it was tragic yet oddly beautiful
The message of the first game is expanded upon and done even better in this sequel
10/10 please play this game, especialy if you like the first
