Still as good the the 1st game. But the story is confusing.
little bit worse than the first game -story-tellingwise- but the story is still a solid job. the game mainly tries to tell so many things about a lot of people while it goes back and forth in time; it reaches to a point where you can't catch up or connect the dots anymore. ending was absoultely great though.
One of the best shooter games it’s very addictive I’ve beaten it multiple times, I platinum the PS5 version the Level editor has some funny, cool and scary levels definitely worth it also I worship manny pardo
the game is like super fun like so fun and like even though i get angry at times its like bawk tuah chicken and like tony goated fists or like keep rollin rollin corey!!!! (the game is addicting)
I completed the game, got like half the achievements then the game got retested, the game was fun but I hate that it got rid of my whole game 8.5/10 (also dead ahead was ass)
story isnt as good as the first game but gameplay is as good as it gets
DO NOT choose brass knuckles for the last level. Two dogs are clipping through the textures. The only way to kill them is to repeatedly smash esc until they unclip.
Okay, plot-wise this game is... interesting. It's simultaneously a sequel, a prequel, and a midquel to Hotline Miami 1. It details the backstory of this universe concerning the Hawaiian Conflict that led to the formation of the Russo-American Coalition (Beard's levels), while also expanding on certain aspects of the first game's plot (Jake and Richter's levels), and of course, showing the aftermath of Jacket's rampage against the Russian mob (The Fans, Manny Pardo, Evan, and the Son's levels). Through its scattered presentation, the game tells a very compelling, very dark story about violence, vengeance, nationalism, and how pointless and destructive all three of these are.
Then there's the presentation itself. Sound design and graphics are very neat. The gameplay is still gloriously violent and difficult. At times, its more difficult than the first game, and will absolutely be frustrating at times, but completing a level or segment is still very satisfying. And of course, the soundtrack is just as amazing as the first game, if not moreso.
Overall, if you liked Hotline Miami 1, I definitely recommend playing this game.
More of the First game! With more focus on the story, it's way more awesome.
A really good game that is great standalone. Not as fun compared to the first one in my opinion. Due to the Mask system going along with certain scenes and story telling arcs rather than across the whole game. Means slightly more "variation" due to being forced to choose from 3 new ones rather than a wide selection. I liked the older system more due to the ability to choose masks that benefit you more on different levels. But Tony was just the best choice so it makes it odd when choosing between them. Still better in practice though.
this is truly one of if not the best game ive ever played. some levels are a little wonky but the amazing story and characters make up for that. seeing the son get reminded of the fans at the end of the game was one of the coolest yet saddest things in all of the games ive played. hurting other people is truly cool.
In an era where better graphics and bigger storage are the norms of most upcoming games. Hotline Miami has weaved a deep story and intoxicating ambiance with pixel graphics. After finishing every chapter a new sense of high (from adrenaline) will prevail for hours. Initially the gameplay needs a little practice but once you are in it one moment it is 10 pm and the next it is sunrise. Although in some unfortunate instances you will stumble upon some glitches. Your character might be stuck inside a wall which will be your inescapable purgatory so you have to restart the chapter but these things are rare. So coming to final conclusion this game is worth every single buck your bank account will debit.
like the first one, very good. Some dick smashing missions but the music makes them enjoyable.

you NEED to play this
Hotline Miami 2 is a difficult game to recommend because it's the perfect example of how 'bigger' isn't always better. The game tries to be too ambitious but loses the charm that the first one had due to its straightforwardness. Even when the first game was being vague or confusing, it still did a good job at making its presentation and pacing feel perfect. Unfortunately, the new one has too many characters, most of which you won't care about - and it feels a bit all over the place. Trying to be equally vague and equally more story-driven, the game manages to screw up both ideas.
However, I am aware that most people (including me) enjoyed HM1 for its gameplay far more than its story, so that's what matters. And sadly, HM2 fails to live up to the standards set forth by its predecessor. The maps are too big, so you are forced to play far slower than you would in the first game, because there are too many windowed rooms everywhere and you can get shot and killed by off-screen enemies A LOT, which ruins an otherwise good run in the level.
The game has a lot more variety this time around since different characters have different gimmicks, and it does grow on you after some time. But sadly it's just not worth the unnecessarily inflated difficulty that makes you break the flow of your gameplay and be extra careful about getting killed off-screen. When I played HM1, I didn't even realize it had a 'look further' feature, and yet in HM2's case it isn't useful enough even though you'll be using it all the time.
The game has its moments, and some of the levels are pretty fun. But sadly overall, it tries too hard and completely misses the mark on the simplicity of the first game that made it so addicting to play.
This is one of the rare times where I completely agree with the popular opinion in every way. First game is amazing, second one is quite the downgrade. You can skip it if you want, but I personally played it on the PS Vita first and then bought it here too since it was on sale.
Look you can either like this game or dislike this game, but if you feel a different way about Joker 2 you're ideologically inconsistent
This game is crazy difficult and I suck at it. I've died like 1000 times. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who is either a fan of masochism or enjoys hurting other people.
I'm sure it's rose tinted glasses, but in Hotline Miami 1 I don't remember getting shot from off-screen every 10 seconds. The story in this one is also way too bloated and pleased with itself, too. When you're formulating a plan to/going through a floor full of goons and the music is pumping it's good, everything else is not great!
I like the part when all the characters I liked just died for some reason very good game play no rage at all

Game is great. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a punch hole on your desk. Jokes aside, this game feels incredibly satisfying and great once you get past the level. I haven't paid too much to the story since i was too engaged with the gameplay. The replay value is great as well if you finished the game. Overall, 8/10. Could've been 9 if i didn't die too much.
I dont consider myself to be a very artistically inclined person, but this game is so good it can only be considered art, the gameplay being very fun helps greatly too.
Play as a variety of people dressing up as animals going around killing people.
10/10 would use Tony again
I mean, I really liked crushing people's skulls, shooting them with different types of guns, seeing their faces full of agony and despair, and then, in the very end, fleeing without any consequences. Also the music is like a blessing to my ears!
So, just like with the first game I have been playing this one on other platforms before Steam.
I don't want to repeat myself too much, but as I wrote in my review for the first game: I love the artstyle, the music and the story. Blah, blah.
A few years ago I would have said that I prefer the first game over the second one, but nowadays I would absolutely pick the second one as my preferred one. And the reason for my choice is simple: more characters and more story. (I'm a sucker for gloomy stories.)
I'm personally kinda mixed on the larger rooms, though. I don't hate them like some do, but I don't really love them either. If I had to pick, I'd say I prefer the more compact stages of the first game, but the larger ones in this one didn't sour the game for me.
If I had to pick one thing that I don't really like is the heavier focus on guns compared to the first one, there have been multiple instances where I have picked up a melee weapon and gone to the next floor only to find out that I have made things significantly harder for myself. (though not impossible) So that can be something to keep in mind.
All in all, even though this game has a bit of jank in it, I still love it. On another note, I can't tell if I have gotten more squeemish towards gore as I have gotten older, but man, this game can be a nasty piece of work at times. (Well, most of the time.)
That's it I guess. See you around, funky rooster-man!
To this day the only game that made me cry. Not only because of the ending, but how hard it was to A+ the whole ass game. But still, this game is beautiful.
GReat sequel to a great game
10/10 Gameplay
10/10 Soundtrack
INFINITE REPLAYABLITY

i usually dont fuck with games that arent fps but this game is insane. type of game that shoots your palingy clean off. 10/10. my favorite souls type game.
some people think hotline miami one is better because wrong number is too hard but i feel like thats missing the point
like sure the first game on its own is a more concise experience and its easier to experiment and try for high scores on all the levels but just because this game is hard and has a wider range of mechanics that can end up making the game more difficult doesnt mean its a worse experience
hotline miami at is core is a game about trial and error and running headfirst into a wall over and over until you manage to break through it and thats the beauty of this game
are the army levels kinda bs? yeah of course they are its a war!
is that stupid boat level with manny pardo hard? of course it does its a lone man taking on a colombian cartel by himself!
i dont think any of that takes away from how cool and fun this game is
i will say though that if any soul reads this and wants to go through the miserable experience that is beating the game on hard mode then i wish you luck and i hope you dont spend five hours on that boat like i did
i havent finished the game but its for sure a 10/10, people giving bad reviews have a skill issue
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number takes everything wild, chaotic, and brutal about the original and cranks it up to eleven. Developed by Dennaton Games, this sequel doesn’t just pick up where Hotline Miami left off; it dials up the story, multiplies the characters, and doubles down on its frenetic, ultra-violent action. If you’re a fan of neon-drenched carnage and synth-driven mayhem, Hotline Miami 2 is here to push your skills, patience, and reflexes to the breaking point.
Gameplay and Mechanics
At its heart, Hotline Miami 2 is a top-down shooter that’s all about speed, precision, and, frankly, madness. Every level is a death trap, where the slightest mistake means instant death. Each level demands you kill (or be killed) in a matter of seconds. This sequel expands on the original formula with more complex environments, larger rooms, and even more enemies, making each level feel like a carefully crafted nightmare. The added complexity means you’ll need to plan your approach down to the last second, but the satisfaction of executing a flawless run is unparalleled.
In Wrong Number, you play as multiple characters, each with unique abilities and styles. One might have a chainsaw, while another has lethal hand-to-hand skills. Switching between characters adds layers to the gameplay, giving you new ways to approach each level, even if it means repeatedly dying to figure out the best tactic.
Story and Atmosphere
If Hotline Miami was surreal, Hotline Miami 2 is straight-up hallucinogenic. The story isn’t linear or cohesive; it’s a collection of fragmented narratives that jump across different characters and timelines. These stories delve into themes of violence, trauma, revenge, and media sensationalism, creating a dark and almost hypnotic atmosphere. While the narrative can feel disjointed and confusing, it adds to the game’s larger-than-life, mind-bending experience. It’s less about clarity and more about immersing you in a chaotic descent into the psyche of a culture addicted to violence.
Graphics and Sound
The retro-inspired, pixel-art visuals are back, but they’re more refined and intense. Each frame of Hotline Miami 2 is drenched in neon, blood, and grit, creating a stylish, almost surreal backdrop to the gameplay. It’s a mix of grunge and glamor that works perfectly with the relentless action.
And then there’s the soundtrack. The pulsing synthwave score is pure gold and easily one of the best parts of the game. Tracks from artists like Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, and M.O.O.N. add an immersive, adrenaline-pumping rhythm that’s integral to the experience. It’s a soundtrack you’ll want to keep replaying, even after the game ends.
Difficulty and Replayability
Hotline Miami 2 is hard—really hard. The larger levels and more complex enemy patterns make it even tougher than its predecessor. It’s challenging to the point that some players may find it frustrating, especially given the lack of checkpoints. But for fans of unforgiving games, this difficulty adds to its appeal. You can replay levels to chase higher scores or just try different tactics, adding a lot of replayability for those willing to master its mechanics.
Verdict
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is a relentless fever dream of violence, style, and synthwave. It’s brutal, confusing, and absolutely addicting—a fitting sequel for fans who loved the original and want even more. But be warned: it’s as punishing as it is addictive, so prepare for a steep learning curve and a twisted journey.
Rating: 9.5/10
For fans of neon carnage and surreal storytelling, Hotline Miami 2 is an exhilarating, stylish, and brutal sequel that doesn’t hold back. Dive in if you dare, and remember—it’s a one-way ticket.
While Hotline Miami 2 may not be as good as its predecessor, it's still an enjoyable game. The main issue with Hotline Miami 2 is that it over complicates and removes a lot of simplicity from the first game. With that said, I would still recommend Hotline Miami 2 for anyone looking for more Hotline Miami action.
Love the first one, but this one is just annoying to play.
Level design is awful and you get killed from off-screen enemies that even if you zoom out you still cant see them. I don't know why they made majority of the levels focus on the gun play when the first one had a balance of both melee and guns that was chaotic and fun. If you liked the first one and can deal with some crappy level design and annoying new enemies than sure pick it up, but it doesn't even come close to being as good as the first.
Shame.
Amazing game, definitely a worthy successor to the first Hotline Miami game. Hotline Miami 2 fleshes out the story from the first game and adds more game play variety. The soundtrack once again delivers and matches the game's tone great. The main novelty of this game is definitely its story, being able to play multiple characters can further develop the story in different perspectives to help the player learn more about the world. Replayability for Hotline Miami 2 is far better than the first game with a hard more unlocked as soon as you finish the main campaign, serving as a more difficult challenge for skilled players. The built in map editor also provides more game content for Hotline Miami fans and provides a way to create custom content for the game as well through steam workshop.
Great sequel to a fantastic game
It is a great game and the best story but it is the worst 100% I have done to date if you plan to 100% don't do it unless you are a psychopath or Dexter Morgan (I'm Dexter Morgan)
It's regretful that I leave a negative review for this game, but it's rendered unplayable on GeForce Now.
good game is very fun but achievment hunting is a nightmare but good game
bom, mas muito longo. História não empolga como o 1.
Cool game, I broke my mouse because of it... Great music, I thought about completing it 100%... But I changed my mind... Because I would have destroyed the whole apartment
I was expect Wrong Number like 1st one but I'm wrong... IT'S EVEN BETTER!
more mature and developed compared to 1 - i think its better, but some people would disagree.
basically hlm 1 is ride 2 the pharcyde and hlm 2 is lacabincalifornia
One of the most important and influential indie games ever made
9/10 - They brought the best and gave us more. Narrative design gives mysterious touch to the plot.
I Have played hotline miami 1 and i liked it, it was decent you know, i like hotline miami 2 even more but holy shit this game has so many flaws that im very conflicted on recommending it...
its just so damn annoying and frustrating to an insane degree, getting all the achievements on it was easily one of the worst experiences i have ever had with a game but this doesnt mean that i hate it fully... the ost kicks an unlimited amount of ass and most levels are actually very fun but its not as good as people call it, the story is also pretty damn good,
if you are very interested in the game, buy it but if its on a good sale.
Even much better in every aspect than the previous game. Perfect soundtrack and good gameplay upgrades.
Naysu game for Steam Deck as well like the previous game.
Great fun, harder but more gameplay variety than the first game. Story is amazing, although the non-linearity can be quite confusing. Soundtrack bangs.
Score: 9/10
i found it A LOT more frustrating than the first, certain levels almost made me quit the game, but it was definitely worth it in the end. (the ending is freaking awesome)
listen, People say violence is never a solution, that to some extent is right. But To me Its a tool, with the places you need to use it being EVERYWHERE. You see a human you dont like? have you tried, well... Voilence?
I have finally 100% completed this game.
Don't EVER do this, it's not worth it.
Play the game though, it's fun.
