The most challenging and fun game that I have encountered. It is sad that I have not played this game sooner.
ive had my fair share of moments like i hate dr kahls robot and chef salt baker but its a good game even if its got the dark souls vibe,
A game that is, allegedly, 'hard.' However, I was able to beat the first two worlds in about two hours before I got bored. Most of the 'difficulty' comes from having to learn boss patterns, which is only challenging for those who haven't the time to do so. The second that you do that, it becomes trivial. Even then, the RNG can occasionally put you in situations where taking damage is unavoidable, as to dodge one attack, you shall have to run into the path of another.
The game is so goated. It runs rings around to today's overpriced games like Helldivers or COD black ops 6.

Great game, if you wanna a challenge buy this game and try to pass it all with a S
Oh boy I had it like years on my wishlist. A few days ago, i just did it because my steam deck should arrive soon and i stepped up my library for verified games. Couldn't let it lay there till the deck arrives so i jumped into it.
The art style is just fantastic. Thrown back to the old black and white mickey mouse movies in my childhood. It is awesome and makes this game unstanding.
The difficulty is hard as far as i can tell. Maybe it get's some harder but that would be okay. First Isle needed some attempts yes, but if you failed enough you get the patterns.
For everyone who really want to have and awesome art-style game with a a challenge - GO FOR IT! It's worth!
i feel like the holy grail just hope i dont go to hell if so that wont go so well ive been bad but no one tell
Cuphead is an AMAZING game. Especially if you like getting blue ribbon's (even though they dont matter lol). Its a game which is challenging but not too tedious or hard to the point where you want to rip your hair out. Plus the jazz music with the hand draw aesthetic is great. WOULD RECOMMEND :D
Cuphead is an absolutely delightful throwback to a timeless period of animation, who's outstanding dedication to its visual and sonic style helps to smooth over some of its less bearable bosses
One of the hardest games ever. If you're up for a challenge, buy this. For 20 bucks and the DLC for 8, it feels like i'm robbing the devs. Everything is so good, the graphics, sound effects, music, everything!! Worth every cent.
Cuphead is a difficult game and it might frustrate a player, but in the end Cuphead is an amazing game with a stunning art style, addictive game-play, a pretty good story and of course, nothing beats hearing that satisfying "KNOCKOUT!" after a insane boss fight. Also it has an extraordinary soundtrack. All in all, its a 9/10 and would recommend it for more skilled gamer's rather than casual ones.
Don't let the gorgeous 1930's cartoon aesthetic fools you, because the game doesn't mess around with its difficulty.
Despite the ball-busting challenge, you'd be hard-pressed to not go back again and retry the same level/boss you're stuck in.
Just be sure to give yourself an ample break in-between to stave off the burnout.
so very difficult, also caused a lot of people to hate me forever, but also got me a very epic friend so.... worth.
also if you don't have a mechinical keyboard some button combos won't work
Getting a refund because it isn't really my type of game, artstyle is really appealing and I get why you might like it, but I personally don't
Absolutly amazing indie game, Extremely accessible to play with friends with Steam's "Remote Play Together" feature.
(Meaning only one of you has to buy the game!)
This game is worth its price and pours its heart out on any and all details.
This is just a great game to have in your Steam Library whenever you and a friend are bored and are searching for something to do together.
Incredibly well made with the 1930's animation style. So fun to play and REALLY HARD TO BEAT! But it's totally worth it!!
Wow what a fun game, definitely quite tricky and requires to memorise and adapt to a lot of patterns and environments but I loved every second of it. Imo the run and gun levels were harder than the bosses lmao, I hated the run and gun levels (in a good way) and I think I gave up on a couple of them. Overall my favourite fights for sure were the devil, baroness and I liked the gimmick of the dr kahl robot fight. Loved the art style too, it really made me feel like I was playing something from the 1900s lol. I'll probs do the dlc another time tho cus I think I need to take a bit of a break from tough games lol.
Cuphead is a 2017 run and gun game developed and published by Studio MDHR. The game follows its titular teacup-headed character and his brother Mugman, as they make a deal with the Devil to pay casino losses by repossessing the souls of runaway debtors. In the game, up to two players control Cuphead and/or Mugman to fight through several levels and boss fights; the game does not have a rigid narrative structure. As the game progresses, the protagonist acquires more power and abilities, eventually facing the Devil himself. Players, however, can only equip a limited number of these abilities at a given time.
The game's creators, brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, took inspiration from the rubber hose style of animation from the golden age of American animation and the surrealist qualities of works of Walt Disney Animation Studios, Fleischer Studios, Warner Bros. Cartoons, MGM Cartoon Studio and Walter Lantz Productions. Reminiscent of the aesthetics of the 1930s and the Jazz Age, the game is noted for its animation and soundtrack: all in-game assets used hand-drawn animation with deliberate human imperfections, and the soundtrack was written for and recorded with a full jazz ensemble.
Cuphead was announced in 2013, had a preview at E3 2014, and was released in 2017 as a timed-exclusive for Microsoft's Windows and Xbox One, with ports to other systems subsequently added. The game was a commercial success, selling two million copies within two weeks of release and six million in two years. Cuphead received universal acclaim[1] for its art style, gameplay, soundtrack and difficulty. The latter two were singled out for praise, with multiple outlets extolling the soundtrack as one of the best of all time, while naming Cuphead one of the hardest video games ever created. The game won several awards, including three Game Awards, three D.I.C.E. Awards, and a British Academy Games Award. A DLC expansion, entitled Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, was released on June 30, 2022. A Netflix animated series based on the game, The Cuphead Show!, premiered in February 2022.
Gameplay
The player, as Cuphead, fights Captain Brineybeard. The art style is heavily inspired by rubber hose animation.
Cuphead's gameplay is centered on continual boss fights, interspersed with run-and-gun levels. Each is housed in one of four worlds, with the final fight against the Devil. Each boss fight includes a simple, regular, and expert difficulty mode (with the exception of the final two bosses, which lack a simple mode). Defeating a boss on regular mode is required to progress through the game and unlocks expert mode for that particular level. Most boss battles take place on land, although some involve player characters piloting aeroplanes and play like a side-scrolling shoot 'em up. The game includes role-playing elements and a branching level sequence.[2][3] Player characters have infinite lives, maintaining all equipment between deaths.[2] Equippable weapons and special abilities, referred to as Charms, can be purchased from Porkrind's Emporium, an in-game shop, using coins found in levels and the overworld. Player characters can use a slapping parry attack on objects marked in pink to various effects, the most important of them being a super meter charge that enables more powerful attacks. The super meter is represented by a row of five playing cards, and can also be charged through attacking or Charm effects. An enhanced attack can be executed at the cost of one card, with its particular form determined by the currently equipped weapon. The most powerful strikes, or Super Arts, require the Super Meter to be fully charged and will completely drain it upon use. Three Super Arts are available, one in each of the first three worlds; to earn each one, the player must enter a mausoleum and parry a horde of ghosts to stop them from reaching an urn at the center of the screen. After completing a level, the players are ranked with a grade based on performance, determined by the time taken to complete the level, hit points left post-battle, number of parried attacks, and the number of times part of the super meter was used, in addition to the level difficulty. The levels are accessible through a top-down perspective overworld with its own secret areas.[3] The game has a two-player local cooperative mode,[4] in which either player character can return to the game after being killed if the one parries the other's soul before it rises off the screen. Cuphead's brother, Mugman, acts as an alternative skin and potential co-op partner within the game.[5] The DLC expansion, Delicious Last Course, adds a new area with its own campaign, including new bosses, weapons, and Charms; a third playable character is also added, Ms. Chalice, who replaces either Cuphead or Mugman when equipped with the Astral Cookie Charm. Ms. Chalice has her own unique set of moves, including a double jump, an invincible roll maneuver, and a parry dash.[6]
Plot
On Inkwell Isle, Cuphead and his brother, Mugman, are two fun-loving children who live under the watchful eye of Elder Kettle. Against his warnings, the brothers wander off to the Devil's Casino and begin playing craps. When they go on a winning streak, the Devil appears and makes a deal, offering to give them all the money in the casino if they win the next roll and threatening to take their souls if they lose. Cuphead accepts the offer but loses by rolling snake eyes. As he and Mugman beg for mercy, the Devil offers them another deal – if the brothers can collect the "soul contracts" from his runaway debtors by midnight the next day, the Devil might spare them. After returning home and informing Elder Kettle about their predicament, he gives the brothers a potion that allows them to fire blasts of energy from their fingers and warns them that the debtors may not turn in their soul contracts willingly.
The brothers travel across Inkwell Isle, fighting the debtors in order to obtain their contracts. As they enter the second sector of the island, Elder Kettle notices that the duo are getting stronger from their battles and urges them to make the right choice when they meet the Devil. After Cuphead and Mugman enter the third sector, King Dice reports the brothers' progress to the Devil and tells him that he is suspicious of their intentions, to which the Devil replies that if the brothers were to try anything, he will be ready for them.
The brothers eventually collect all of the soul contracts and return to the Devil's Casino. King Dice stops them, saying that their success has caused him to lose a bet. In retaliation, he sets up an extended casino-styled battle in an attempt to exact revenge. After defeating King Dice, the brothers confront the Devil, who tries to tempt them by inviting them to join him if they turn over the soul contracts. If the player chooses to do so, Cuphead and Mugman are transformed into the Devil's demonic lackeys and the game ends. If they refuse, the Devil becomes furious at the brothers for not upholding their end of the bargain and battles them. Cuphead and Mugman defeat the Devil, incinerate the contracts and return home. Learning that they have nothing to fear from the Devil anymore, the former debtors honor the brothers for their heroism.
The Delicious Last Course
After freeing a spirit known as the Legendary Chalice from one of the main game's mausoleums, Cuphead and Mugman receive a summons from her to visit the distant D.L.C. Island. Once they arrive, Chalice demonstrates an "Astral Cookie" which allows her to trade places with the brother who eats it, turning him into a spirit and temporarily bringing her back to life in a youthful form. The cookie's inventor, Chef Saltbaker, unveils his recipe for a special dessert known as the Wondertart, which has the power to give Chalice her own permanent body. Saltbaker notes that several antagonistic inhabitants on the island hold its required ingredients and the brothers set out
This Game Is The Most Stressful Hard Damb Game Ive Ever Playd But Other Then The Hardness Its A Good Game
yeah this game is pretty cool i couldnt beat simple mode ribby and croaks but it was pretty cool.
An amazing game made with so much hard work and passion. I love this game dearly
I love the art style. This is a very hard game so do not play if you rage. Play this game if you want a challenge.
I want to start by saying that I did not like this game myself, and refunded it. It was way too hard for me so beware that this game is not for everyone.
So why the positive review?
Well, from the design of the stages to the sounds to the story to the voicelines to the art style, you can very easily recognize that there was a lot of effort put into this game, so I can't give it anything else but a positive review.
TL;DR This game is not for everyone, but if you don't mind games that have a steep learning curve, you should definitely give it a go
People always talk about how hard this game is, and it really can be. S ranking all the bosses is quite the task but i find the difficulty to be overstated. I hardly had any particluar struggles on a normal playthrough (no simple or ms chalice). Even though this may not be the impossible game you were looking for its still good. Art is beutiful, music too, bosses are creative and fun, nice overworld and progression, good amount of content, good DLC.
So in conclusion its a good game you might aswell buy it if you havent already.
With A ranks on every boss (DLC included) I think i'm qualified enough to say this game will bring you pain, but the good kind... like hot sauce. 10/10
Cuphead offers a unique art style and challenging gameplay, making every victory feel rewarding and fun!
I have 50+ hours of this game on my switch and I still have fun coming back to replay it. While its easy to love this game just because of how good it looks there is also a lot to be said about the game play. While it can be very frustrating due the difficulty you want to keep playing so you can beat the boss you are struggling with. All of the weapons and charms are interesting and have times where they can shine. The music is also wonderful, I can't think of a single song that I do not like. I'm so glad the developers never gave up even though it took forever for the game to be made. The DLC is also amazing adding a fun and interesting new character to play as and more amazing boss fights. If I was asked what my dream sequel to any game would be I would want more Cuphead. Forever one of the all time greats, thank you MDHR.
A very fun and enjoyable game, filled with secret. Cuphead is so worth it, especially the DLC!
Cuphead is one of those unique games where the difficulty is high, but so is the fun. Its cozy atmosphere, paired with exceptional jazz-inspired music design, creates an immersive and unforgettable experience. The hand-drawn visuals and fast-paced gameplay make it truly stand out. I thoroughly enjoyed playing it, even though the controls felt a bit unusual to me (still easier to complete than Hollow Knight). The experience was especially rewarding thanks to the incredible atmosphere and the brilliantly designed bosses. This game is perfect for anyone seeking a challenging yet satisfying experience without frustration. Great piece of game art.
this game is so hard i love it and bosses are just so good just a perfection i would absolutely recommend others
early impressions
this is one of the first game marked 'difficult' that i am actually enjoying, the boss battle are fun and idk any other games like this. me and my friend play it over remoteplay. thanks for making this.

i Would say its a good game but at the same time i really diffelcult so you are wourned
Lovely game! I recommend it! Pretty fun. And since now there’s a dlc. It means there’s more content which is always nice.
Game is fun. Game fun = Game good,
Late review but I hope more games like Cuphead (or a sequel) follow soon after. It's inspiring to see a team of many talents to produce some of the most unique visuals and character design as well as some of the best game design/mechanics and sound/music composition that I've seen so far in the medium. Also, the DLC pushed those limits that I would never thought would be better than the base game. Everything just works in this game and I appreciate the care and direction that was put in by Studio MDHR.
When all is said and done, King Dice can get it from behind
This game is super hard, but it is really fun for a platformer game. 100% recommended.
A perfect platformer. Amazing style, tight gameplay, great challenge.
Cuphead is hard. Like, really hard. It is hard to even beat casually and is capable of pushing even the highest-temper player to their limits. I am not joking! the other day i was playing the hardest run-and-gun level and i got to the end boat, but then i died. I threw my controller right onto my speaker and said the F word at the top of my lungs. Yeah. it's really hard, so get ready to die, and die, and die. So, would i recommend it? Well, it depends. It is my favorite game right now, but i don't recommend it to people with mood swings or anger issues. My dad can't make it past the first boss right now. But the game is very satisfying when you do win and when you get better at it. Of course, there isn't a free demo or anything. At first, i thought i might not like the game. Of course now i actually don't play that much else anymore, but there's always refunds.
İ was playing this game like 3-4 years ago and i started olayın this game again it was still hard but ngl it's so much fun i couldnt finish the game again maybe i will play it again
Very fun if you like to try over and over and memorize what to do, and what gadgets to use then I 100% would recommend. (Its kind of like a calmer version of Elden Ring)
Absolutely infuriating memorize-the-attack-pattern gameplay, but the art and animation are *so* good.
terrible game, couldnt get past the first jump in the tutorial, also im a game journalist
amazing game, great concept and everything, I just have a skill issue and can't make it past inkwell isle 1
Incredible game, the artwork is fantastic, soundtrack is amazing and the gameplay is super smooth.
Must buy if you like a challenging game
Very fun! Like metal slug and dark souls/elden ring combined.
i love this hole game n all but i just want to say that IDK how to get devilish cheats for mac everyone is always doing that on PC but there was a way but no rule on how to get it so let me know in the comments on how to get it and try to do steps so yes let me know in the comments IDK nut still like it of the cool boos fights
Very fun game! It has run and guns. Bosses. And such creative mechcanics! (yes i know i spelt it wrong sorry)
incredibly fun game, and smooth gameplay along with cool animation
Cuphead is an absolute blast to play. From start to finish, this game is a joyride of platforming, shooting, and tight, challenging combat. The difficulty is just right—demanding enough to keep you on your toes without ever feeling unfair. It took me around 16 hours to finish, which feels like the perfect amount of time for a game like this. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, and each moment feels earned as you work through the tough but rewarding levels.
But the real gem in Cuphead isn’t just the gameplay—it’s the art, animation, and music. The hand-drawn animation is nothing short of breathtaking, evoking the charm of 1930s cartoons with a modern twist. Every character, boss, and background is packed with personality and fluid motion that makes the game an absolute visual treat. The jazz-inspired soundtrack is also phenomenal, setting the tone for each fight with its lively rhythms and catchy melodies. It all comes together to create a cohesive and immersive experience that truly stands out in the world of gaming.
Overall, Cuphead is an incredible game that blends challenging gameplay with artistry and style, making it a must-play for anyone looking for something fresh and exciting. Whether you’re a fan of tough platformers or just appreciate stunning animation and music, this game will not disappoint.
