Great game
Its good, but way too short.
The game has one of the most terrible ways to implement a life system in a game:
You have multiple characters and you can switch between them at any moment freely, they each have their own life bar, and health pickups only goes to whoever picked them up, even if they have full health. You have to switch characters before they die and make sure to use them when you see a health pickup, and for the love of god don't get that character killed, because instead of switching to another character, the game puts you back in the start of the stage WITHOUT that character and WITHOUT giving the rest extra health.
That means that if every one of your characters have low health, but they are all alive, your options are:
1- Lock the fuck in and do no hit runs until you finish the level and get your health restored for the next level
2- Play without being hit until you find health pickups, which are not that common, and pick them with the character you want to have the most health
3- Swallow the stupid pill and kill yourself to start with a new life, with every character at top health, but way further back.
Another issue with the game is that you cant move while attacking, this wasn't a problem until the second to last level, the library, which gave me moving platforms between pitfalls with enemies in between. Not only you have to deal with precision platforming, and then the knock back of the enemies if you play on veteran difficulty, but you also have to deal with timing your attacks correctly or risk being moved by the platform into your death. A bullshit level.
classicvania, but with some modern design. Would recommend to any classicvania fan.
An enhanced version of the NES castlevania Games. Better in every aspect.
If you loved the NES castlevania era. Curse of the moon is for you.
alot of fun, very entertaining.
as someone whos a bigger fan of classicvania than i am of metroidvania im glad those who brought back one could bring back the other in just as great of a way
Controls are bad, like historically bad. I've played the original NES Castlevania, the controls are somehow worse than that. Controller support is also really bad, it requires rebind every time you load the game. The game itself is actually quite easy.
The game is okay, but 10$ for a basic 2 hour game is poor value.
Curse of the Moon based itself on Castlevania III and the improvements it makes over it's inspiration are incredible. It help that CIII is not a game that has been imitate as much as Symphony of the Night which make CotM a more unique title. Ritual of the Night is good, but it's a game I've already played. So yeah, you could say Inti Create stole the show here.
I searched Castlevania in the steam search and this game was the result, Wasn't disappointed. Nice to see a pixel graphic metroidvania in 2024.
7/10 solid retro game
Loved every minute of playing this game which purposefully goes old school. I grew up playing the original Castlevania I, II, and III for the NES and this absolutely nails the nostalgia of them. Jumping is heavy. Movement is purposeful. And some enemies are an absolute nuisance.
Game art draws from the game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night but it is not connected to any story or plot from that game. So it is neither a sequel or prequel, just a self contained game of its own. Fans of Bloodstained: RotN might find that as a bit of a bummer.
Level design is great with a good variety of enemy and boss types. Levels have branching paths which aids the replayability factor and the achievements serve the same purpose. Playable characters have traits and tools specific to them allowing you to adapt your approach at the next challenge with ease. Audio is top notch as well (loved the music for every level!).
Easily recommend to any one looking for a classic 'vania or retro style game.
One of the coolest games I've randomly found on steam. Amazing game heavily inspired by classic castlevania games.
Excellent Original Castlevania type of game, is fun, hard and quick
this is a good game. very obvious what it inspired it. play it.
jump slice fun good kill win destroy jump whip fun good kill win destroy victory
I played this game and the sequel previously on Playstation, but I sold it my consoles. Anyway, this game is great if you want an action-platformer where every action has a heavy commitment, like in the classic Castlevania games. The game is engaging because every action feels meaningful, even if the actual difficulty level is quite low.
Why is the Castlevania 3 remake called Curse of the Moon? It's supposed to be Dracula's curse. still fun tho
The experience is very close to NES era Castlevania. Clunky movement and platforming. Atrocious checkpoint system that aged like milk. It sucks as much as the game it's trying to imitate.
Gud
nice little retro blast, replayable if you want
Short, fun 8-bit castlevania-like sidescroller. The different characters add a nice element, and switching between adds some strategy.
Comentario Analítico: "Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon"
This is a good game but I can never play it because there are no audio settings. I like to put games in windowed mode and have videos going in another window but without volume control that's pretty much impossible. If I could turn down the volume I'd probably have 30-40 hours on this game instead of 2.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is a well refined modern take on the classic Castlevania titles. It takes everything that made Castlevania 3 so good and expands on those concepts while ironing out all of that old NES jank. The levels are well crafted with fair checkpoints and the enemies/bosses always properly telegraph their attacks.
The multiple characters and routes add a lot of replay value, and even in times of frustration that sweet soundtrack will keep pushing you forward. If your a fan of the ClassicVanias, then you owe it to yourself to play this game.
I highly recommend this one. 💯
10 outta 10. Mastapiece (in casual).
great game i guess but playing this has been kind of a pain. some may call these mere pet peeves and minor complaints but to me its just making me think id rather fire up mesen instead. its clearly a good classicvania game with good graphics and interesting mechanics but for me
- it wont go full screen
- doesn't detect all controllers
- when it does it sometimes doesnt detect input on controller
and thats enough for me to be irritated. still getting past that, its great. those issues arent enough for me to leave a negative review
HUGE ripoff of Castlevania 3
jogo bom dificuldade legal, bem de boa, BOM JOGO
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is an 8-bit side-scrolling action platformer that successfully channels the nostalgic spirit of the NES era. It serves as a loving homage to Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and for fans of classic platformers, it doesn't disappoint in the slightest.
You play as Zangetsu, a katana-wielding demon slayer on a mission to purge the world of evil. Along your journey, you encounter other adventurers, such as Miriam, Alfred, and Gebel, who can join your party. Once they do, you can switch between them freely, and each character brings unique strengths and weaknesses to the table. The characters also have individual health bars, so when one dies, you're forced to continue with the others until you either reach the end of the level or lose all of them, which sends you back to the last checkpoint. Power-ups vary depending on the character you're controlling, and they are tied specifically to that character.
Gameplay-wise, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon perfectly captures the old-school platformer vibe. However, this brings both a sense of nostalgia and some frustration, as the game's controls mirror the sluggishness of its retro predecessors. While enemies are predictable and boss patterns are easy to memorize, the stiff controls add to the challenge, making it difficult to dodge attacks, land blows, and even perform basic jumps.
Each stage offers multiple paths to explore, with varying levels of difficulty. Some routes are packed with tougher enemies or tricky platforming sections, while others require the abilities of a specific character to progress. It's best to keep all characters alive, as their unique skills might be necessary to navigate certain areas. Be on the lookout for skeletons pointing towards the easiest paths, they're handy guides to help you choose your route.
While the game is relatively short, and the controls take some time to get used to, it’s a must-play for retro enthusiasts and Castlevania fans. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon delivers a faithful and enjoyable experience that’s worth diving into for those who crave a nostalgic challenge.
Recommended for fans of classic Castlevania (not Metroidvania).
step on me miriam
Cool
I don't even remember playing this. Did I play this? I'm not even very interested in Castlevania. Did I beat this? Is it a short game? I can't even remember what it was about.
