It is not very often nowadays where I will spend full price on a game on steam, however, I have put numerous hours into this game over the years on various platforms, so I think I am fully qualified to say this game is a MUST-HAVE for anybody who enjoys platformers, even at full price! I genuinely adore this game and the devs behind it and they fully deserve all the fame and fortune this game has given them.
This game makes me unfathomably angry
With more than 46 hours in-game, and just having finished the four main campaigns with 100% items/everything in each of them, just know that this game is more than worth its price (even in 2025).

8-bit Retro inspired goodness, truly a modern classic!
All of the dlc's are also great, and adds good deal of variety.
It's a classic retro adventure that does all the tropes of ye olde games properly and well. Each character feels awesome to play as and the levels are difficult without being unfair.
Chivalry has been dead for years, shovelry lives on for eternity
This is one of my favorite games i have it on all platforms i own. i really love this game and the people who made it. kinda like a Mario bros. game (got to save the princess) but instead of jumping on enemies you have a shovel. plus free DLC!!! Each character has their own special move set which is pretty cool. i would say buy it but it's totally up to you if you want too.
I love King Knight, and also all the other Knights.
Why am I telling you this? I don't know, I just like characters that always wear helmets

Absolutely peak. Four entire campaigns, all the characters are fun to play. They all feel unique and special in their own way. Level design is pretty great, the difficulty scales adequately. Except for maybe... The airship stage. Every game with an airship level is just vastly harder, and this is no different.
Shovel of Hope: The gamest game. Nice shovel-hopping platforming. NES Ducktales-esque.
Specter of Torment: Edgelord delight, scythe jumping and wall climbing. A tad heavier on the plot, mainly flashback lores.
Plague of Shadows: Silly plague doctor dude feels self conscious because the girl he likes is way taller than him (and fun bomb combinations which change how you can approach things)
King of Cards: A platformer with shoulder bashing and cool spinning, and an entire card game, with card pack gambling. Snobby douche protagonist, leads to funny dialog.
Overall, everything is just right. There's not a thing I'd change about it.
Absolutely worth it! Haven't really tried showdown, but the others are all super fun (even Plague of Shadows)! Love the retro style; it's done very well, and looks and sounds great. Definitely excited for Mina the Hollower.
Highly recommended masterpiece. I finished the first three games on another platform - excellent! However, I just couldn't get into King of Cards, this was just too frustrating.
Having a lot of fun with this, it looks great and plays great with just the right level of difficulty.
wonderful game! lots of content! i thought it was a bit too easy so i tried doing the boss rush with 4 hp and no items on newgame+ and now my mental health is in ruin all around really good!
138 possible achievements and you don't give me a single one within the first 15 minutes

as a huge fan of platforms, i can say that Shovel knight is a great one, prolly the second-best platform I ever played, it has a really retrò artstyle and music that i really love. I think you should play it if you enjoy retrò games and you're nostalgic about them. I love plague knight so much

Fun Game!!
An old classic of Indie games, quiet enjoyable & paired with some challenging moments, 4 (5 counting the fighting game) titles in one package, each with different gameplay styles, mechanics, and stories. Also happy 10th anniversary to shovel knight as a whole.
Very very good indie game, for the content you get and if you intend to play throught all the main campains the game is amazing for its price.
Shovel of hope, Specter of torment, Plague of shadows and King of cards are all excellent campains. If you like your retro style platformers like old school mario its kind of like that but just alot more gameplay added upon that.
It can get frustrating at times because the game overall is not easy pits are asses and some enemies can bullshit you into death. But its very well worth it even casually to play through the campains because it's really cool to see how each story intertwines with each other. And some twists are really unexpected atleast it was for me.
The only game mode that is "bad" is showdown. Like this game mode is so long if your trying to unlock everything and it is so repetitive that it just becomes annoying. Your basically playing super smash bros but with shovel knight characters which is fine but if we're comparing to the other campains its lackluster at best.
But most importantly,
The bigger the explosion the better the alchemist!.
Good game, def worth if the game drops to twenty dollars in any sale. Each play through is 5-10 hours and there are 4 stories. My favorite was Spector knight as it was the most fluid movement and story was by far the best. Liked the Plague knight as well. All solid stories and gameplay change ups. Only critique of the game is the one shot kills via hazards. Makes it feel necessary to run the armor set that makes so you don't die in one shot the entire time. Even if you go with the analog answer of get good, still makes this armor set far better than the other ones when you play for the first time. Loved the bosses for the most part and the enemies were varied enough that each level was fresh, no real blot levels. Overall solid experience with no large drawbacks.
Only the specter knight campaign was mid, specter was peak and shovel/king were pretty alright and fun
Is it "good" to buy a game you love three times?
That's entirely subjective!
Pros:
Supporting the Developers: Buying a game multiple times directly supports the developers, allowing them to continue making great games.
Playing on Different Platforms: Perhaps you bought it for different consoles (Switch, PC, etc.) to enjoy it on the go or with different friends.
Collecting Physical Copies: Some people enjoy collecting physical copies of their favorite games.
Cons:
Cost: Buying the same game multiple times can be expensive.
Ultimately, if you genuinely enjoy Shovel Knight and find yourself coming back to it, then buying it multiple times is a personal choice that you're happy with.
Have you tried all the different campaigns in Treasure Trove? If not, I highly recommend checking them out! Each campaign offers a unique perspective on the story and a different gameplay experience.
4 amazing games in 1 legendary treasure trove? yes please. I love shovel knight. I've beat 3 of the games, working on the last one now. I Highly recommend shovel knight to anyone who loves a good platformer. if this deal was just "Shovel of hope" (shovel knights game) it would be worth the price but it also comes with 3 more games for some of the other characters. The other playable characters that each get their own game are plague knight, specter knight and king knight. Each character has it's own unique controls, story, abilities, and each game is different enough to keep things fresh. In king knights game there is a mini game you play which is actually a lot of fun too, it's called joustus.
pick it up if you like platformers, you won't regret it.
Shovel Knight is a pretty feisty trick. It presents itself as if it's a return to a more low key, humble time in video games, with it's 8 bit visuals and 3 button action. In secret, it is a perfectly assembled, delightfully complete video game, with a AAA level of content, and one of the greatest soundtracks ever devised. It's alternate campaigns hold so much unique charm and mechanics, that it feels as if the game will never stop impressing you. I know it never stopped impressing me.
Truly a fantastic platformer. A solid amount of content, and the whole thing really invokes that classic SNES platformer feeling.

For more than a decade Shovel Knight has stood as "the face" of indie games, and revisiting it nearly a decade later shows that the game is absolutely deserving of that title. I originally bought into the game during a dry spell of games for the Wii U and loved it as the closest an indie game has gotten to feeling like classic Mega Man, and in the years since, the game has massively evolved beyond what it was at launch, and all for the better. Since beating the game, Shovel Knight became a collection of separate campaigns featuring villains of the original story at no extra cost, added in character customization, fully implemented 2 player co-op, Steam Deck Verified, and 2 side modes with completely separate gameplay through Showdown and King of Cards. All of these major additions make the price of the game easily warranted, ESPECIALLY during a sale where the game is discounted.
New additions onto a game that had amazing music, gameplay, tight platforming, and no BS. Shovel Knight is a game that respects your time and investment, and one of the "must-have" games on any platform, Steam included. While countless indie games will come and go, it stand proudly among a rare crowd of games like Undertale, Cave Story, and Super Meat Boy (among others) as one of the most defining AND influential indie games of all time.
11/10 would 1 pixel crouch again.
Shovel knight is probably the best game I've ever played. I absolutely love the story, intricacies with the characters backgrounds, the simplicity of the oldschool graphics... This game has it all. And the treasure trove, with it's DLCs, is just the cherry on top.
I recommend this game to absolutely everyone and anyone. It's just THAT good

Nostalgic visuals, challenging platforming that's rewarding to the player, and boss fights. The story is great too (at least in shovel of hope, can't speak for the other titles). Any Mario enjoyer will really appreciate this game.

indescribably good, in my opinion top 10 games ever and a must play for lovers of games like Mega Man, and Sonic! Not to mention the OST is extremely good and playlist worthy. I would buy this game for $80 for all the content it provides, and the game is half that amount.

Honestly, there is nothing revolutionary here, or to me particularly standout, but this game is pretty much 100% nostalgia for those folks who played the early Mega Man games and that ilk. It does it well.
This game made me really mad and I really tried to enjoy it. If you're not good at platformers, or have medium frustration tolerance, this game is gonna make you upset.

I don't understand the reviews calling this game short, you know the whole point of getting this instead of any of the other shovel knight games is that this is 4 in 1, 5 in 1 if you count showdown. The shovel of hope is just the original story, I suspect that of people are missing out by assuming that those other 3 are just different playable characters - they all have different stories.
And out of those four I'd rank them from best to worst: King of Cards, Specter of Torment, Plague of Shadows, and then Shovel of Hope. So yeah, if you have or get this game I would strongly recommend trying out the other campaigns.
