Season Up is an asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated someone else's example/template/tutorial game, changed the name/reskinned a couple of things, and submitted it to Valve as if it was their own game.
Bitlock have ripped off a very basic template for a 3D marble platformer where you bounce on various blocks. Bounce high enough to get to the top of the 12 platforms. Imagine trying to sell a platformer game that only has 12 platforms.
Bitlock Studio/cBlck/LillyWelland inc. have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:
- "Beach Restaurant" = Fast Food Restaurant & Cooking Starter Kit developed by Finalboss
- "Bloody Sand" = Urban Town Pack - Middle Eastern developed by FlamingSands
- "Eon Fleet" = Space Ace Shooter Game Template developed by Puppeteer
- "Find Your Way" = Polygon Western - Low Poly 3D Art Pack developed by Synty Studios
- "Pixelord" = Pixel Runner developed by Deer Cat
- "School of Horror" = School Scene developed by Tirgames Assets
- "Snakeez" = Modern Snake oooO - Complete Game Template Ready For Release developed by App Advisory
- "Star Sweet" = Jewels Star Match 3: Full 298 Levels developed by Thong Van Tran
- "The Thing: Space X" = 80's Shoot'em Up Kit developed by ETI Software
- "Thunderbolt" = Smash Way Hit Pyramids developed by Andrew Oleynik
- "Weaving" = Wavy Trip developed by SgLib
- "Agross" = Agricola Unity developed by Michael Kasprzyk
- "Froggo" = Road Crossing Game Template developed by Puppeteer
- "Pet Puzzle" = Simple match-three animals puzzle developed by CATLOGIC
- "Pixelfence" = Pixel Tower Defense Prototype developed by Kirill Nadezhdin
- "SnL" = Snakes And Ladders Multiplayer developed by Moe Baker
[*] "TacTikk" = Make An Assassins Board Game in Unity developed by Wilmer Lin
Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
The game features lazy low-polygon minimalist "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
It's also important to note the "developer" here has connections to a number of shady Russian asset flippers and review manipulators who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers puts your money at risk.
Season Up is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.
6/10
This is a fun little game; one that I can have some friends pull their hair trying to beat!
It's a pity that it lacks a win condition or the like, but the mountain offered here has at least a peak.
I'm torn on whether to give this a positive or negative review. I got exactly what I paid for. The game description is possibly the most accurate game description of any game on steam, possibly the world. Just don't expect anything more than what was described there. For 50 cents it was ok, but even then I still feel a little bit that this should have been a bit more polished. Right now it feels like a 1 day programming project of some gaming degree college student. There are no menus aside from the unity one. When you win it shows a orange background with a surprisingly detailed potato spinning in space...and that's it. There is no "restart" or "quit" there isn't even a way to make it harder next round or something. In my opinion it's on par with something you'd find on miniclip, albeit in 3D. I would advise against the original $2 price tag as it's a complete ripoff then, and 50cents too. It's a competent game, but it has virtually no content and looks unfinished.
That said, it was fun for the 3 mins it lasted.
Season up has quite an impressive visual/light ambiance making it a soothing game.
Good 5min game :)
