CryoFall definitely has its charm, with an interesting world and plenty of things to do. However, the overall mechanics feel a bit unfinished, especially when playing solo.

The gameplay often turns into a lot of running back and forth, moving items between boxes and trying to remember which components you need for each step of crafting. There's very little automation, particularly for fuel systems — you have to manually refuel everything, which becomes tedious over time.

Even on the highest PvE rates, crafting still feels slow and requires a significant amount of investment just to get started. And even after you build up your base and gear, reaching "endgame" goals like boss fights or farming volcano scorpions feels unnecessarily grindy and frustrating.

If you enjoy survival crafting games and don't mind a lot of micromanagement, CryoFall can be fun, especially with friends. But be ready for a lot of manual work along the way.

IT a good crafting and survival and the look to.

Pros: Good community, fun toys, cool alien creatures, interesting crafting.
Cons: LAG -mostly happens during events. Also, server auto-save tends to freeze stuff for a second and kill you if you're in combat (luckily, there's a countdown so you can try to be ready for it). LAG.
Overall, it's a good game, just need to upgrade their servers a bit.

Amazing sci-fi survival rpg!

Played the game in Single Player, it had potential but it's been over 2 years since it's last update, doesn't seem the devs are coming back to it.

The game is extremely grindy, especially the late game. There is no automation, so you'll be harvesting most resources by hand until the endgame (there are some drones that help mine and harvest wood, but they're still manual). Every production facility needs to be supplied and have their resources removed by hand as well, so most of the time you're at your base, you'll be closing and opening menus moving stuff around, it's very tiresome.

Bought this game at 90% off, it is absolutely not worth it at full price.

If you are playing this game solo as a fan of things like Necesse/Keplerth then I wouldn't bother. As other reviews say this game "might" be fun multiplayer, but as a solo experience it's just a very grindy, directionless, sand-box game which feels like it belongs on a mobile device.

If you are happy to just plod around with no real guidance and just cut trees/mine rocks then sure it could be ok, but it certainly is not a colony sim when you play solo.

Got this game to play with my wife and daughter. Honestly really fun so far, only played for about 4 hours, 2 with daughter and 2 solo, but really fun! Proof that 2D still has its place and can be just as fun as 3D with the right creators behind it. Game play is smooth, the various features such as world events, building, crafting and such are all well implemented, and polished. Worth the money!

Seems unfinished, like it's in Beta or Early Access. It's fun for a few hours on your own, beyond that, you really should play with friends. If you don't have any or aren't the type to make friends very easily, well, PVE turns into a lonely grind, with other players (mostly soloists on asia server) becoming competitors for rare and consumable resources. I shudder to think of what the hostility is like on the PVP servers.

MP aside, the game itself is... well.. bare. There's not much in it that isn't made by players. It's mainly an island of lots-of-the-same with a few varied terrain types and associated resources at various corners, but mostly it's trees and minor mobs that block your way and annoy your every journey. Unless you're in a mech. But even the lightest, fastest mech is slow. Much too slow. And no, you'll never have multi-weapon mechs. Every mech can only carry one weapon, and you'd have to exit it to switch (really not a good idea as it takes time, so doing so in the middle of a fight is nuts)

Actually building a mech or hi-tech weapons require rare resources, namely gold, of which each bar requires 10 nuggets, which are like 1-2% drops on mining, which itself is a tedious process, even if you use drones (max 4 and they're slow) and suffer lower xp gains, or worse, use a pickaxe and have to hit every single rock you mine several times until it breaks and vanishes forever (rocks respawn randomly in the same terrain type eventually).

Everything is slow. Getting around is slow, even with vehicles. Teching up is slow. Gathering materials and processing them stage by stage until you have what you need for buildings or equipment is slow. Oh, and equipment breaks too fast, IMO. That means you'll never keep what you make for long, whether it's food, gear or weapons. Everything is consumed. Repairs? Hah, you'd need to sacrifice two of the same type to repair it to one somewhat less damaged version of the same item.

If you're soloing, you could make your own 'new world' and adjust difficulty and resource sliders to make it all smoother, but then again, you're really, really be grinding alone. I can't imagine taking on the bosses all by yourself even with the best (which really aren't great) weapons in the game.

This game really needs...
1) Ways to get around quickly
2) Private instance dungeons so people don't journey all the way to a ruin only to find it already stripped bare and all their traveling wasted
3) NPC shops or settlements so that currency actually means something
4) Actual quests rather than just some tutorial line.
5) Clear info given in-game about mobs (def types, hp, locations, etc) and 'world events' (repeated every day, but we could really use some sort of schedule to know when what pops up).

In short, if I'm to give my recommendation, it needs to be a game, not an empty sandbox.

This game is a hidden gem of survival crafts.
It took me until writing this to realize its a few years old now. Never would have guessed.

Its casual. I like that.
The systems in this game are nice and there is a very nice depth of items, crafting, farming, buildings, skill tree, etc.

If anything is wrong with this game (as of 15 hours in) is the map size. Its nothing crazy.
I would call it small in the world of obnoxiously big empty/open world games.. but I still like it. There is enough danger and exploration for me... especially considering I tend to lean towards the resource farming, building, and tech tree expansion in most games like this.

I also think the bones to this game is amazing. Its too bad as this game could really go places. I understand with the current/stable state leaving the game alone... but yall need to do a CryoFall2 and make this thing big. There is sooooo much potential for a CryoFall 2.

If you're looking for a nice open world survival craft playthrough. This aint bad at all and im glad I have it in my library.

When I saw "Mixed reviews" I was cautios, but the big discount convinced me to buy. So, I have no idea why the game was downvoted to the ground. Playing solo is also feaseble, but clearly the game is multiplayer oritented. I wouldn't say that the game is about grind, it's more about exploration and discovering research tree. Exactly what I like.

Only one downside so far - mobs are stupid as rock. Zero path-finding capabilities. It makers them easy target and you can run away from them, but in 2025 this is weird to see.

It's unfathomable to me how some people paid 20€/$ considering the current state of the game. It's incredibly grindy and hard to get into on your own if you don't have friends to play with. The in-game UI is basically a faithful copy of the mobile game Last Day On Earth, and the menu is too common and lazily designed, like in many other games. Overall, it's not so bad if you have 1-2 friends to play with for maybe 20-30 hours.

This game is a colony sim if you have friends. If you don't then it's just a survival game. There are no pawns to control nor to recruit like in other colony sims.

A suggestion for the developers: adding NPC pawns and factions for solo players would make the game way better. Until then, I can’t recommend this game, as I bought it expecting a colony simulator or at least something similar to Necesse.

Animation suck, art-style and UI are dreadful, barely worth my 2 bucks.

In order for this game to be fun:

1. You need friends.

2. Don't be afraid to double or triple the resource sliders to reduce the insane grind so you can enjoy the better aspects of the game(like combat and raiding).

A chore without mods, which are very manual to install, with accessibility hurdles in modding, server creation, tutorial, progression; also scheduled wipes. Suppressing mods leads to QOL problems and lack of replayability. QOL and automation are subpar, with janitorial chores, quick degradation of equipment, leading to exorbitant grind.

A somewhat decent concept that sabotages itself in execution. Neither ample constructive feedback nor inboxing the publisher led to reconsideration and tackling of the problems. During the development process, the developers showed remarkable resilience in the face of extensive feedback. This user invested countless hours on Discord, providing daily input with workable solutions backed by state-of-the-art knowledge and materials. Despite the wealth of well-researched suggestions offered, their implementation in the final product remained limited.

Could be seen as a glorified Minecraft chest mini-game to trigger cheap dopamine responses, while the constant grind does a number on your cortisol and serotonin. Additionally, server wipes on public servers contribute to a social situation where you may find very nice people who help you out, only to lose them—and the newfound social and gameplay dynamics—as the server shuts down. This can lead to feelings of loss and a lack of social and gameplay reward.

At the current 90% off, I would recommend this to adventurous people who are okay with the rather barebones graphics, character art, and animations, and are up for a very manual experience with a couple of friends, provided you don't mind going through tutorials on how to set up your own server.

Like Darkest Dungeon, often considered a pariah for its artificial difficulty, this game often relies on attrition, unfairness, obscurity, and complication rather than genuine challenge. The core gameplay revolves around managing limited resources under persistent threat, with challenge stemming from these elements rather than skill-based obstacles. However, there is a skill-progression and seasoned players can adapt through strategic choice of starting location and lean into unlocks and sales of products other players are willing to pay dearly for to cut down on their grind.

By prioritizing these mechanics, the game risks turning gameplay into a demanding chore. This approach potentially undermines long-term engagement, following the path of rage-games that mistake frustration for difficulty and rely on triggering cheap dopamine responses through constant grind, negatively impacting players' cortisol and serotonin levels.

I bought this game when it first released for me, my son and my nephew, we had hours of fun with this. It's a great co-op experience but I played plenty solo, nothing like rushing to the site of a meteor crash or a supply drop. It's on sale for a couple of bucks right now so jump on it for you and buy some copies for family and friends you won't regret it.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure if i got this in a bundle or not but I have played this a lot now. It's clearly designed for an always online server, so a Solo run will feel very slow sometimes. I play single player, and im glad there's a lot to grind out. Most craft survival games make you feel pretty complete after a few hours, But after nearly 40 hours theres whole tech trees I haven't touched yet as I start to process high end technology.

Im a hoarder kinda player in minecraft and terraria and this game makes it feel good when I spend a few hours grinding materials and then spend a few hours crafting and teching up before repeating the cycle.

The power and food system is rather fun, making the frantic "I can't keep enough fresh food" Start go to "I Have the same 3 food types in the freezer and I can't possibly eat enough to run out" and ignoring the farming mechanics entirely

This game is a survival game that's under developed imo. There could have been a lot more, like item rotation in the building furniture. There isn't an option for it, yet a big part of this game is focused on having a base and using unlocked building items to further your characters progress...It's a fun little grind as a solo gamer, I haven't played the multiplayer side of it.

Was fun, more with friends. The main bosses take more than 1 person so good luck with that. It's like 2D Rust but not as hardcore. 7/10

This is a cool game. I enjoyed it alot...but....what it is not, in any way shape or form....is a "colony sim". What "colony" it's just you or you and some digital friends. But you do not form or manage a colony at all. Why did they add that to the description?

Fun little game

it's a simple yet intresting survival game i've ever play, i know many survival games on pc or mobile phone and this is one of the game i could recommend my friends to play together. the only thing i want to be add to this game is a survival story mode, when the player just want to play alone they have the excitement to play the story and not bored

Not amazing. I think the best way to enjoy this game might be a medium size team of friends, but as a solo experience, it's really slow and grindy. There are limited options to automate or simplify things, especially in early stages. Most of the gameplay feels like moving things between boxes. Just doesn't feel like there's anything interesting to aim for, other than needing to grind more resources for the next tech tier.

Nice game but easily get bored. There are small amount of enemies and small map size. I hope they will update to add more enemies, technology, armor, weapons and increase map size

One of the best games I’ve ever played! Hacking is impossible, making it completely fair. There’s so much to do, from missions to dynamic events and the gameplay is endlessly fun. Highly immersive and packed with adventures, an absolute must play!
