Had to play a mini game while sitting on the toilet just to let it go with ease as a monster was attacking me . Could not pass that beast in peace . Best experience ! 5 stars .
This is one of my all-time favorite games, it is a must have, if you have friends or don't. Even if you don't play it very much, it's worth at least a little bit of your time to test the waters. The dev's are funny, I love the community updates they give, the game is a hilarious combination of that humor you'd expect to find in Half-Life, and the game overall just feels like a love letter to survival, half-life, and SCP (or some other similar type of containment horror series).
I was worried how linear this survival crafting game was going to be but they absolutely pulled it off. Theres an order to things but you decide when and where you do it, way more exploration than i expected and alot of fun enemies. honestly one of my favorite survival crafts ive ever played. absolutely pick this up if your a fan half life, scp, or survival craft.
This game captures that feeling I had as a kid when just thinking about certain games was exciting—the feeling that anything, no matter how silly or absurd, could actually exist in the game. Aaaand its the perfect balance of heart-pounding paranoia from all the creatures and fun that keeps me brave enough to keep playing
As someone who doesn't like the "Open World Survival Craft"-ing genre, this is probably my favorite (and possibly the only one I've truly enjoyed).
What sets it apart is simple: It's got a hand-crafted and interesting map, and a solid story/goals to aim for.
So many Open World Survival Crafting games plop you in a randomly generated world that's either so generic there's no point to explore except to gather materials, or so barren that its just a chore to get to the actual points of interest. Abiotic Factor is set in a research facility that has been made to be explored, with every area having thought built into it.
Instead of the goal of the game just being "get out" or "survive," Abiotic Factor leads you around a proper tour of the world giving meaning to the entire facility around you. There's no where in the world that's just "there" for no reason. The facility is a sprawling active place that makes you want to explore it, rather than being forced to.
Brilliantly crafted survival game where you play as scrawny scientists trapped in a research facility. Plays like a homeage to Half Life
Really fun survival crafting experience with lots of toilet humor and some surprisingly spooky moments. Looking forward to see the rest of the game.
Refreshing take on a overpopulated genre
Abiotic Factor (AF from here on out) brings a lot of great ideas in a genre that has become overcrowded in the last 5 years. Its story, crafting mechanics and open world survival setting feel fresh (although some parts are still familiar). The game shines in its setting, like many others have told it has a ‘half-life/Black Mesa’ feeling to it, not so strange since you are exploring a facility called the ‘GATE Cascade Research Facility’. Every turn around the corner makes me feel curious and anxious about what I’m going to find next.
Early Access
I don’t normally write reviews about EA titles because some are still riddled with bugs or feel very incomplete. AF on the other hand in its current version (0.9.2) already feels like a massive game, not only in size of the facility/world which you can explore but also regarding to crafting, story and enemies. The current state, in my opinion, already gives a good view about how the finished product is going to end up. Also regarding a 1.0 release, you should keep in mind that, some developers choose a price increase compared to EA. This game costs around 25 euros (if there’s no sale), which is worth it by a mile.
A Resonance Cascade-type event
Without spoiling too much of the game’s story, AF clearly loans some of it’s story from the Half-Life universe. Spawning alien-like enemies, scientists that need our help, the different facility types we come across, it all feels somewhat familiar but never feeling like a plain old copy. Instead of shotgunning our way through a facility this time we unravel the story by speaking with scientists or other personnel found in the facility, we check emails and watch holograms. AF has a small tutorial-like intro, which takes a couple of minutes, here you get a basic feeling of movement, crafting and connecting items that require power.
What I really like is, after the intro, you are dropped into the free roaming part of the game but without falling into the all to familiar trap of open-world games by giving you way too many options at the start. AF gives you time to get used to certain enemies, how to heal yourself, how to get some basic food and do some cooking. The way you explore the facility also does this; you gain access to certain parts of the world by following a natural progression while also getting stronger yourself. This way it never feels like you are somewhere you aren’t supposed to be yet, although some parts are rough to get through when not prepared fully.
Beautiful to look at and enough to do
AF has very ‘basic’ graphics, or maybe it’s better to say that it has a very basic, pixelated/block based style. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have detail; the world is beautifully made. There is so much to see, how some machines are working, the flora and fauna of the alien world, there have been a lot of times where I just stood somewhere and needed some time to take it all in, the world is alive.
Every time you unlock something new and every time you venture forth in the facility you are in awe of the hugeness that is AF. There are many skills to try and master, disciplines to make use of to survive and defend yourself. Especially when playing in a team it really feels amazing to see everyone picking a role and in that contributing to explore everything the game has to offer. AF is really fun in single player, but I think the game truly excels in it’s co-op playstyle. It also helps in terms of pacing, because taking care of your survival while also exploring this huge world feels like a lot. Having different people take care of different stuff to venture forth saves a lot of hard hours grinding for resources by yourself.
Best when shared
I think the things I would like to see improved are mostly non-issues when playing with multiple people. But I found myself traveling back and forth a lot to new locations to set up a base while grabbing stuff from the location I had set up camp before. Exploration requires preparation, which is a part of the open world survival genre of course, but I found myself turning back while being close to a new ‘safe’ point quite often. This maybe has more to do with me than with the game itself, but it frustrated me from time to time.
Like I said before, I think the game shines in its co-op playstyle. Moments where you almost sh*t yourself because you are jumped by something are way funnier when you hear a mate laughing at you only for it to happen to him/her moments later.
The game is more than worth it in its current state and although I’m mostly through with the entire ‘open world crafting’ genre, Abiotic Factor manages to create something that still keeps me going back for more.
i am the very model of a somatic gastrologist
i've information vegetable, soup, and raw dough
i know the plants of the anteverses and i harvest as they grow
from greyeb fruit to space lettuce till cooking undergoes
Some real science stuff with the mixture of SCP and Half-Life with Project Zomboid kind of leveling, real good science shit
The care and dedication of the devs can easily be found in the little things in this game, it's beautiful in it's own stylised way. and feels really good to play.
This is just the perfect game for all Half Life fans out there that wished for coop experience. Strongly recommend, great game.
A strange mix of 'Half Life' and 'The Forest'. A thoroughly enjoyable experience that gets even better when you add a friend or two into the mix.
Cool survival coop game with the Half Life climate. You need to follow the leads and try to escape the secret facility meeting lots of the strange creatures. It's getting constant updates with lots of new content so as an early access title I can just recommend trying it out
If you like crafting and base building, pooping mini-games, and eating greatly or minimally radioactive foodstuff; this is the game for you! See the sights, like a train in the countryside or an unusually foggy hamlet. Converse with the locals, provide them with food and maybe get a stapler! Take up hunting, fell your enemies, and cook up your bounty (and/or enemies), as any scientist worth their salt would do! Science!
i love this game super cool concept with old school half life like graphics cool tools and enemies highly recommended to anyone either alone or with friends
An amazing game, fun and funny, with a lot of depth in it!
Only played 47h of this game at the time of this review, and i can say this game is indeed fun to play (with friends) early on things are quite tough (just like any other survival game) but as you progress and explore, you come to realize that food and thirst are not that big of an issue.
gameplay is basic at best, more akin to the first Half-Life game, but with the added survival it makes this game more interesting. early on you will mostly be scrounging for basic food until you get a grill crafted where you can finally start cooking the radiated meat you have been cutting up from dead enemies.
Nets are your best friend early on, they can trap those little "pest" enemies so you can stomp on them. and if you toss a net on those 4 legged enemies, it temporarily "prevents" them from attacking you for roughly 3 seconds. get in some swings and then toss another net onto them. doing this will help you easily kill them without taking too much damage!
do NOT craft the "Peccery club" early on, this is a waste because you need to be at least Strength level 8 to use it properly, this was my first mistake. instead try and craft the make shift spear, this provides you with more "melee range" and it does sharp damage, which can help you with killing robots at a distance
without spoiling the story, each zone seems to have a dedicated "sector" type story that connects to the main story you are following. you do some quests in the sector, then move on to the next one. getting better and better gear as you progress.
all and all, I've enjoyed my time with this game and I'm looking forward to the next update of the game, the dev has done a wonderful job on this game, and the fact it's only $26 CAD for an EA game is insane to me, because the amount of fun ive had with a friend on this game is easily worth a $40 price tag as it currently stands.
if there is 1 thing i wish the dev would add and or fix, it would be to allow the Antique Shotgun to respawn just like how the Gravity Cube can. even with the setting turned on to allow some loot to respawn that weapon doesn't respawn and it's sad because when playing with a friend it's nice to have at least 2 copies of some things.
This game slaps. What if you were a random Scientist caught in the not quite Resonance Cascade in not quite Black Mesa? Could you craft and survive your way to safety?
It's a fun survival crafting game that goes the opposite way of open world for a smaller incredibly designed world set inside of a massive research facility. Everything you can craft looks like something you made with the stuff you found about the place
I thoroughly recommend it and I suggest playing it with friends :)
In my humble opinion, this game looks ugly. But still thumbs up, because in any other aspect this is a very good early access: the original idea and setting, story, atmosphere, a lot of content, humor, little to no grind which is extremly rare for survival-crafting games, and you already get excellent labirinth of sectors and portals to explore. I don't recall such a carefully planned level disign elsewhere. Besides, they're actually improving aspects that didn't work well. My respect.
I shoud mention that it's much funnier with friends, otherwise laboratories are creepy especially at night.
So, I'm still feeling unwell paying this much for something looking like this one, but the fact is I've had a lot of fun here and I'm sure that I'll be checking their next sector planned next year too.
This game feels familiar and at the same time foreign in a good way.
visual style of a half life - retro.
I see the Devs are pumping out a lot of content and I want to see the full game, which will be glorious!
Great game. Very reminiscent of HL. Fun to play with friends, takes a different approach to survival games than pretty much everything else on the market right now so it's pretty refreshing.
very fun game inspired by half life great time with friends descent amount of content currently in the game and more coming from what i hear great time to get it now as of review (its on sale)
This is hands down one of the best games I've played to date. The multiplayer aspect, along with the storyline and use of the older style gameplay makes this a phenomenal masterpiece. I wish I could go in and play this for the first time all over again! I'm trying to give a spoiler free review, because I'd recommend going in blind, but the core aspects of the game is survival, with base building elements, and fps elements. There's lots to explore and learn, and with a dev team like Deep Field Games I have confidence this will become a memorable favourite game in my library. Definitely in my top 3 list!
ABF has quickly become a personal favorite for three reasons
1. It has a hand-made map
2. If offers an immersive sim experience in a survival crafting package
3. The crafting system is incredible
It Has a Hand-Made Map.
Having a static map designed by a human is a bold choice for a survival crafting game—such games often rely on procedural generation for replay value—but this one choice pays off in spades. ABF’s map is a twisting thing of beauty, filled with shortcuts and secret passages reminiscent of the best portions of Dark Souls. No other survival crafting game has as thrilling of an exploration loop as ABF, which makes every hallway a compelling discovery and which consistently had me saying “huh, so *there’s* where that duct goes.” There are so many routes through the facility that even though it’s not a big open space, I never felt that restricted as I explored.
It offers an Immersive Sim Experience in a Survival Crafting Package.
In an interview with PC Gamer magazine, Lead Designer Geoff “Zag” Keene said that his team hadn’t intended to make an Immersive Sim, but that didn’t keep them from knocking this part out of the park. The interlocking map—combined with a strong skill ladder and well-thought out environmental systems—means that there are plenty of different ways to overcome obstacles based on your playstyle. Best of all, multiplayer means that you can combine your favorite playstyle with your friends’ playstyles to make a cohesive team. If you love sneaking and your friend loves hitting stuff with a big sledgehammer, you’ll find that both of you will have plenty of opportunities for your specific role to shine.
The Crafting System Is Incredible
I love that within minutes of playing, ABF leapfrogs right over the tech level of most survival crafting games. Where other games have you gathering wood and stone to make a spear, ABF puts you to work immediately looking for circuit boards and power supplies so you can make vacuums out of alien organs. The recipe trees become very complex very quickly, but there are enough quality-of-life features where it feels more satisfying than tedious. The supply and demand of materials is also remarkably balanced; you’ll undoubtedly be surprised at the “common” materials you run out of. Each item has heaps of personality, as well. You may wonder why you need a desk phone to craft a spear, but it all makes sense when you actually see the spear and realize that *of course* you need to have a little hand-guard to protect your delicate little science-fingies.
Advice For New Players
- Build at least one base per sector. It’s entirely possible to build one big mega base in the first sector, but there are so many base locations and the crafting/scavenging is so fun, you’ll regret NOT building more bases.
- Don’t Be Afraid to Tweak Difficulty. I personally turn down monster hitpoints and turn up damage for a faster but deadlier game that rewards good preparation. I think default difficulty is great and you should probably start with that... but since you have the option to balance difficulty mid game, it’s better to tweak a setting than give up entirely.
[*]Multiplayer and Solo Are Very Different Experiences. I like Multiplayer best, but scheduling keeps my friends from playing consistently. My solo game has in no way diminished my fun in multiplayer, even though I’m much farther ahead in the plot.
Final Thoughts
The most common comparison people make with ABF is Half Life, though I think that is actually underselling it. Yes, Half-Life fans will find plenty to love here, but I most frequently find myself comparing it to Control—with its liminal uncanniness and its desire to categorize the inexplicable. The scientists of GATE have stumbled onto a world which can only be described as “arcane”, but that doesn’t keep them from firmly believing that any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science. Are they correct? Who knows! But the way ABF walks the tightrope between zany and eerie is impressive. If you’ve ever wanted to build a pillow-fort in a haunted mall then this is absolutely the game for you.
cool premise that doesn't feel like im playing the EXACT same survival game over and over again like some other games. Genuinely enjoy this game
Even though this game is in early access - it is a monumental achievement already! So much content to be had in this game, and its seriously a lot of fun with friends! You can tell a lot of time, care and dedication went into building what's already here - and with the frequent community updates adding sooooo much in terms of content and quality of life IN BETWEEN the already stacked and content dense roadmap updates just goes to show how much this dev team really care about the game and how much they understand what they're making and their audience! Keep at it Deep Field!
This game is so ridiculously fun. I restarted it many times and each time I somehow managed to find something I missed. I eagerly await the next update and then (eventually) the 1.0 version of the game to discover new portals, craft more stuff and battle some new enemies.
The difficulty scaling is good. You can make the game decently challenging or even very chill. The art style is quirky and fun and clearly an homage to previous titles like Half-Like. Consequently, the game size is tiny. I can appreciate that when AAA titles are trying to use 110 GBs of my SSD. The writing is intriguing and a good mix of serious, dark and just plain goofy.
The devs care a lot about the product they put out: they've done many QOL updates, bug fixing, added things simply because players asked for it. It is very nice to see an EA where I am not even 1% worried about the devs abandoning the game or messing up the final delivery. So far they've walked the walk and talked the talk.
That being said, the game is not perfect, but it's in EA so I can forgive the rarely occurring bugs or balancing issues. I had one game breaking bug so far, but the rest were just slightly annoying, few and far in between, and you can get rid of all of them by restarting your server.
The game also doesn't really hold your hand and you are expected to read log entries and emails to figure out what to do and how to solve puzzles. This is an absolute positive in my opinion and offers a more old school gaming experience, but it's not for everyone.
Conclusion: f****ng awesome game, a rare gem, I will keep replaying it until new content comes out, kudos!
I'm a huge fan of the survival crafting genre. Any quick look at my played games could tell you that. I've got thousands of hours across various games in the genre from Valheim, ARK, Enshrouded, etc. In my opinion, most of the more popular survival crafting games all have their own unique strengths to bring to the genre. Abiotic Factor is no different.
That being said, it's *easily* in my top three alongside Subnautica and Project Zomboid.
I originally played multiplayer before the game's initial release via a demo prior to its official launch in May of 2024. All three of us were instantly hooked and we played nonstop for roughly sevenish hours before we ran out of content in that initial demo. It was an absolute blast and we thankfully had a smooth, bug-free experience. Everyone broke off into their own 'job' in our group. One of my friends focused on cooking, the other focused on being the builder of our base and I was the meathead of the group charging in first to take care of the nasty things that'd go bump in the night. All three of us contributed to the group in impactful ways. Up until I got eaten by a giant because one of my friends hit the elevator button on instinct after I had stepped out.
As with most survival crafting games, being in a group meant an easy time gathering resources and maintaining our base. I've dabbled in the multiplayer since it's full release and I've found it feeling much like it had in the demo. (With a few changes that improved quality of life!) But that doesn't mean the solo experience makes for a bad grind. In fact, the gathering requirement for most things in the game is relatively cheap overall. There was never a moment in single player where I was dreading having to go out and collect 50 rat tails to complete a pair of gloves. There are, of course, some pain points when it comes to gathering but each time the community has reached out in regards to these pain points they're magically corrected or we're given an alternate way of handling these points in the next update. The devs are responsive and you can feel the passion they have for the project itself.
I mostly prefer my games solo these days. Abiotic Factor is still just as fun solo as it is in a group. The devs have hit a magical combination of games like Half-Life, Subnautica, and Project Zomboid while keeping an absolute chokehold on its own identity and not feeling like it's ripping anything in its own genre (And the genres surrounding it) off. It's clear the game and its devs are more about having their own identity and celebrating these genres rather than becoming a poor imitation.
Every time I find myself in a new area, I'm looking everywhere I can for more lore on this fantastic world the devs have created and every time they push us into a new area, I'm thoroughly and pleasantly surprised with what I find. Obviously, I won't be detailing them here. I wholeheartedly recommend going into this game as blind as possible. If you liked Subnautica for its general atmosphere, I'm fairly certain you're going to enjoy Abiotic Factor as well.
I'm constantly looking forward to the game's updates and I've been completing the new content as soon as it drops every time. Another big bonus is that the devs are consistent with their patch updates. If the roadmap says it's going to be during a specific time frame, they've been able to deliver (So far!) on that promise.
It's honestly hard to think of a negative to the game because all of the more common issues have been fixed in updates and the things that might be considered a negative to one person might be a positive to another. For example, the game doesn't tend to hold your hand very often. You're given an objective and some (sometimes!) vague directions on where to go or what to do. There's almost always something that you can find in game that gives you further directions if you're struggling. I haven't had to look up anything outside of a very rare bug where I did not receive a recipe that would have guided me further and on following the directions to fix this bug (Which has been completely patched, thankfully) I was able to progress without further issue.
To put it in simple terms:
The game is an extremely fun survival crafting game that draws inspiration from games like Half-Life where you've got a clear goal in mind that pushes you forward into the other sections of the game while still giving ample reason to return to previously explored sectors-- sometimes stumbling on things that weren't there the last time you were.
I cannot recommend this game enough, even to people who generally don't enjoy survival crafting games.
This game is a blast!
It's really unique. A vibe of first Half Life game but with crafting, looting and surviving.
Definitely worst to play with friends.
If you want some SCP Foundation in your Black Mesa, then look no further. The game is the best of both worlds with a setting that makes you halfway expect Gordon Freeman to jump out from behind a corner, but instead there's just the horrors. Horrors that can (mostly) be shot, thankfully, but still ones that would make you wish there was an MTF squadron to help you take them down. Luckily you can arm yourself well enough to do the job yourself, though it's not gonna be easy. The GATE facility is large, your enemies are numerous, and it seems like every bit of progress you make towards getting out of there is a "one step forward, two steps back" type deal. But you can do it! I believe in you. Just watch out for the Leyak.
What can I say about this game that others haven't said in their review? But I'll try to put it in my own words and experiences.
First of all this game is labeled as a survival game but forget everything you think you know about survival games. The premise for Abiotic Factor is imagine a situation much like Half Life; you're a scientist that is stuck in the Gate Cascade Research Facility, a giant underground lab. You won't be a walking one man army like Gordon, you're just a regular guy. You have to make sure you eat, drink, sleep, and even USE THE BATHROOM when needed. You also have the option to play solo or cooperatively with up to 6 player co-op. Also it's not just survival, there is an end goal that you're working towards throughout the game.
The map is crazy awesome. It's all just one huge interconnected facility. So you start at the bottom level of the facility and need to unlock the different floors and sectors in order to progress. What makes the map so amazing is that all of the sectors have shortcuts that lead to the main section, so you never have to travel far to any areas you have previously unlocked. Plus there's vehicles, ramps, ropes, and other traversal tools to make getting around even easier.
There's also a really fun crafting system, where you go around picking up random office supplies and your character will come up with "ideas" on different things to craft. Ideas are crafting recipes that you need to unlock, it will give you a list of materials you have picked up, and you have to slot them into the correct spot with the correct material in order to unlock the recipe. But it's not as easy as just crafting it in your inventory, or making a workbench.
Workbenches and other crafting stations require power to run. There's outlets all over the facility that allow you to plug your stations in to provide them with power, however; the facility isn't open 24/7. The facility closes from 9 PM to 6 AM, and during this time the power gets turned off and security robots start patrolling. There's batteries that you can make that allow you to keep your stations powered during the night. There's also base defenses because as you progress, enemies from the levels you've unlocked will occasionally raid your base at night so you have to choose a good spot in the facility to set up your base.
You aren't the only one in the facility; you are trying to escape with your fellow scientists that you'll bump into on the different levels of the facility. Usually they will give you information that you will need in order to progress to the next sector. But not everyone is friendly. There's also soldiers patrolling the later part of the game. As well as the main type of enemies you'll come across; aliens.
That's right, this game has portals that lead to other worlds and from those worlds come all kinds of different creatures that roam the facility. There are also basically SCPs too in the game that you learn about as you go through the game with all sorts of different weapons you can craft to take them down.
Now my thoughts:
I think the game is amazing, even though it's still being worked on. It's such a unique and cool concept and exploring the facility and seeing what new stuff you can find or make is some of the best fun I've had in a game in a while. There's soooooo many more things that I couldn't really get into like a cooking system, the way you can carve up enemies to get food/components off of them, the different ways you can build your character, and just the way that there's very minimal hand holding, you get told to go somewhere and it's up to you to find out how to achieve that goal. My only gripe with the game is that it can be proper tough if you play by yourself so consider yourself warned if you want to play solo.
Strongly recommend, especially since I'm almost 30 hours into the game and I still have a whole bunch of stuff to experience before I'm anywhere close to doing everything the game has to offer for now, and it's just going to get bigger as they are still adding things to the game! Definitely worth the money even in the current state.
i have to say with the amount of hours i put into this game, by myself and with friends, its a good and great epic game. It satifies the building aspects of the game with also the satisfcation of that Black Mesa/Half Life 1 graphic feels. Its almost mind blowing how it was and the history how this was, what i was told, a mod at first. Its epic i high recommend this with friends.
I'm 44 hours in and there is still no end in sight of high quality hand-crafted level design.
my partner and i play survival games together because we hate camping. sometimes even in survival games you get tired of being outside the whole time. in this game, you are almost never outside, so it is perfect. please get it if you also hate being outside.
I don't like open world base building crafting survival games. This is not an open world base building crafting survival game. This is a Metroidvania.
I fucking love Metroid.
Genuinely just a really good game,
its the first survival game I've played which is set almost entirely indoors and they have pulled it off really well. Its funny but not obnoxious, the story is engaging, the progression is diverse, exploring is rewarding and interesting, if you enjoy base building you can build one wherever you want but the game will still subtlety give you ideal places to build. there's random shit to collect e.g. I've found myself crawling across the map over-cumbered because I've found a bookcase i thought would look nice in my base. there's loads more small things this game just does well, honestly just buy it and find out.
i think the combat and enemy re-spawning isn't amazing and can impact the experience negatively sometimes but its not bad enough to make the game unenjoyable.
its also worth mentioning this game is a great example of how the industry should be providing the early access experience to consumers.
Half Life 1, but as a survival crafting game. It’s so good.
I absolutely love this game. The various areas you can explore within and out of facility, the inventions you can make to help increase you chances of surviving and the many laughs that you can experience with your fellow scientists when trying to survive a deadly underground facility full of untold mysteries. I highly recommend playing this game with friends or with siblings if you have no friends. My brother and I have gone through thick and thin exploring most of the facility and defeating most foes. Trust me when I say, this game is a game that you don't want to miss. My fellow scientist if you want crazy adventures along with fighting unknown threats, this is the game for you.
Absolutely a blast! And it's still in Early Access! Can be played solo, but much more lovely with friends!

polished, interesting setting, lots of accessibility features (if you need that) and with ingame voice chat with friends this game is pure gold
also this game rewards creativity and critical thinking a lot and the survival part of the game is just at the right level to feel dangerous but also not annoying
I rarely write a review, but here I could not stop myself from doing that. This game is amazing, and I feel like not enough people know about it. It has awesome setup and progression. 22 hours in a game, and do not feel like we are close to the end, and it keeps us hooked up to it with every new zone we open in a game
All I gotta say is this game is my absolute favorite game to play!! i love all the survival aspects to the game, all the different enemies to fight, and there are so many things to craft. i just recently got to the end and cant wait for when this game releases more content, i'm excited to see what will show up in the next update!! Def recommend for a group of 6 to play this, never even had problems with the game other than some lag in certain areas but its not unplayable, keep up the good work in this game!! Cant wait to see what other adventures there will be!!
too good to be true but it is add +90 hours to whatever my playtime says
play with a fren or group ( or even alone) and its a blast.
Can tell the developers care about the game and its content for sure
so much fun! make sure to grab a friend, that's where the game is at its best
I don't play the game super efficiently, so I run around the map a lot, and its a big map. Sprinting still at level 7 even though I've been sprinting literally the entire time I've been playing. Love the game tho <3
This game could have been a meme, but it's really good. While the concept of the game is a bit funny, the execution manages to add horror and excitement to a love letter to the early 2000's games-and not just the original Half-Life! There's also a generous helping of influence from other media, like the SCP Foundation, Silent Hill, and various mid-2000's shooters. Absolutely fantastic, totally worth picking up even in Early Access.
Probably one of the funnest games I've played in quite some time.
The developers have obviously prioritised fun over everything else. There are so many amazing small details they've added that they very much could have just skipped such as being able to roll around on the office chairs or making the diving board in the pool bouncy. They've also perfectly captured the essence of Half Life.
Keep up the amazing work please!!
Easily one of the best Survival Crafting games I've played, and as of writing, it's not even a finished game yet. The premise can be boiled down to "What if you played through the resonance cascade disaster of Half-Life as one of the random scientists?" with a delightful mix of other elements too. This is well reflected in both how easy to kill you are if you aren't careful, and the crafting, which really feels like you are just cobbling together whatever you can find in the office to defend yourself. The cartoony aesthetic helps suspend your disbelief about some of the more outlandish things you can make. You're a big brain scientist, you'll figure out how to make it work somehow. Surely you know what you're doing.
Alongside the RPG mechanic of leveling skills by performing certain actions, these aspects combined make it really feel like you aren't playing as some badass hero who can take on an army just as you are. Your character needs to put their ingenuity and resourcefulness to the test to survive, and in the process maybe work yourself towards that more fearsome prowess, but deep down you'll always be a silly nerd.
The story remains more of a background element, with the core of what you do being more a series of a events in your escape from the facility than an unfolding narrative, but if you care to, there are interesting details to be found in emails and journal entries that give more insight (and questions) for many of the things you encounter. I'm sure as the game becomes more complete, loose threads will start to be woven together more clearly, though I've no doubt some will still be left for one to ponder.
Gear progression has a good pace to it, you always feel rewarded for exploring and often even re-exploring areas by finding vital resources for meaningful upgrades to your weaponry, armour, base, and/or food supply. The developers have done a great job giving the player reason to revisit locations for recipes they will discover later, so there are very few areas you only visit once that are then wasted. There are also plenty of secrets to be found if you really want to go looking.
I mentioned upgrades to food supply, and by that I mean the game has plenty of food recipes to keep the act of feeding yourself fresh and interesting, instead of just a monotonous chore. Some recipes are more nutritious and/or quenching, and even confer unique buffs. Setting a table with a variety of food items is a nice home-making experience I didn't know I wanted, that I don't think I've seen any other game allow for. Doing so mysteriously keeps the food forever fresh and steaming (food will otherwise decay over time), which I hope is not fixed later, as it is a nice reward and makes for nice, functional decoration.
The devs have a clear roadmap that has resulted in well paced, substantial updates to the game too. They have shown relatively rapid response to player feedback with their community updates as well, so there is no uncertainty that the game is steadily moving along. What the game has already is well worth playing, especially with friends, and you can be sure there will be more to come.
