super glichy landing on a planet and game crashed and mi rocket disapered with all of mi stuff
i was playing trying to activate all the worlds and the game crashed and removed my rocket with everything in it
The game is gorgeous, The game play is spectacular. I've spent hours just roaming around the same planet always finding neat new things. 10/10
A fun game to play solo, but even better with friends—if they have more than one brain cell.
7/10
Single-player experience is awesome, playing with friends makes it much more fun.
It is welcoming to gamers of all levels due to its fluid mechanics and simple building concept. Highly Recommend!
The game's controls are the worst I've seen in years. Game play mechanics seem fun, but I cannot get over how incredibly inept the devs are at making a single intuitive control mechanic.
My friend forced me to buy it but its actually a good game I enjoy playing but with some bugs.
The games not really fun or engaging in any way.
The UI is painful, there isn't really any story or anything to tap into, the only thing it has is the creative element and even that's painful to deal with or navigate. A million other games have done it better and I cannot, for the life of me, understand what people are finding fun about this game.
I want to enjoy it, I want to be able to play it with people and be wrapped up in it, but it just doesn't have anything going for it.
played on xbox for free, love the game, so much so i bought it on steam
just hate it when i die to dynamite
Generally I like this game. It looks great, plays well, and the gameplay is mostly intuitive.
However, there were a couple things I didn't enjoy. First, the main story objectives quickly become a repetitive grind. It's the same thing over and over, with little progression or change after each phase.
Second, the in-game promotions for their DLC are pretty obnoxious. The opening screen has a large ad for it, which is fine, but one of the in-game objectives puts a portal to the DLC into the game without warning. It's huge and extremely annoying to look at and it cannot be removed or moved. This combined with the microtransactions made me decide to stop grinding the main story and ultimately stop playing.
Based on gameplay alone, I think I'd rate this game 3.5 out of 5 if you enjoy sandbox games. Due to the invasive in-game unmovable ad in a paid game, I'm dropping this to 1 out of 5, not recommend. New players, I suggest not helping "Frank" in his DLC ad quest.
Astroneer Review – 100 Hours of Pure Planetary Joy
After logging nearly 100 hours in Astroneer, split between solo adventures and countless co-op sessions with friends, I can confidently say this game is one of the most satisfying and imaginative sandbox experiences out there. Whether you're exploring alien worlds alone or building sprawling space bases with friends, Astroneer delivers a unique and endlessly enjoyable journey every time you launch into orbit.
From the moment you land on your first planet, you're swept into a vibrant, stylized universe that feels both welcoming and full of mystery. The minimalist art style and relaxing ambient soundtrack create a meditative atmosphere that’s perfect for deep exploration. But don't let the game's charming exterior fool you—there's real depth here.
Solo play is a serene, almost zen-like experience. Managing oxygen lines, gathering resources, and engineering your base piece by piece brings a tremendous sense of accomplishment. There's a deep satisfaction in slowly transforming an untouched alien landscape into a thriving outpost through sheer creativity and resourcefulness.
In co-op, the game comes alive in an entirely different way. Coordination with friends to mine resources, design modular bases, and embark on cross-planet expeditions adds a chaotic and hilarious layer to the gameplay. From launching rockets at the same time to building over-engineered rovers just to "see if it'll work," the moments of emergent fun are endless.
The game’s progression feels natural and rewarding. Unlocking new tech through research, automating your resource chains, and eventually mastering interplanetary travel make every session feel meaningful. And the Terrain Tool? It's one of the most fun and flexible tools in any sandbox game—equal parts sculptor, miner, and creative toy.
If I had to nitpick, the occasional physics bug or inventory fumble can break immersion momentarily, but these are minor blips in an otherwise polished experience that continues to improve with regular updates.
In short, Astroneer is a love letter to exploration, creativity, and collaboration. Whether you're building solar farms on Atrox or spelunking deep into Sylva’s caves with a friend, every moment feels like part of a larger spacefaring adventure. After 100 hours, I’m still excited to dive back in—and that’s the highest praise I can give.
Verdict: A brilliantly crafted space sandbox that only gets better the more you play. Solo or with friends, it’s an absolute must for explorers at heart.

Fun and relaxing game. Great with friends, would recommend
I'm really hoping they knock it out of the park with the next game in this series, as this has so much promise but fails to quite deliver. The mechanisms and gameplay are fun, but the arbitrary limitations put in place to make grind=progression make it less fun, and certainly kills replayability. It's still got a lot of jank that has followed it throughout early access and beyond, and there just haven't been any real quality of life updates for most of its life. Instead, change has focused on throwing in more excuses for microtransactions that add nothing really to gameplay. It's been a disappointing approach, and it does make me fear the sequel will follow the same route, but I shall try to remain hopeful.
Just kinda clunky to a frustrating degree. Tried playing it in several stages of its development from early access to now and it feels largely the same since its original iteration. Really wish there was some more quality of life implementations to just make things a bit clearer or more sustainable. Searching for exo caches became extremely tedious to a degree that it completely killed all enjoyment for me. The resource management is rather a hassle, and theres no way to mass move things in groups, you simply have to pick up every single thing one by one with a click and drag and it just gets so old so fast.
This game was created with the sole purpose of making your experience with it as uncomfortable as possible. The interface is mid, the camera movement is shit. You can get used to it, but it won't ever be smooth. The game is meaningless right from the start. You research things and get "improvements", but 80% of those as you soon realise are utterly obsolete. Why bother wasting resources on bigger generators when you will do just fine with the basic ones? Why bother automating something when the number of resources you need to achieve your goals is fixed and not that great? Why bother creating transport if it doesn't enable you to traverse the planet faster and gets stuck in small rocks and plants (which are everywhere)? In order to make your rover at least a little bit useful you will have to get it all geared up, which means even more tedious grind. Oh, and by the way you cannot get all required resources by visiting one ore two planets, you will have to visit each and every one of them (the only notable difference between them is the colour scheme). You cannot really substitute any resource with another, you will not get even an illusion of variety to your gameplay, there will always be but one efficient way to do anything.
To sum up, the core concept of the game is rotten - complexity for the sake of complexity, struggle for the sake of struggle (and of course for the sake of keeping you from progressing too fast and making you waste x3 hours in game). No action in the game makes you feel rewarded, all you get will be new boring problems to solve. If you have a thing for games that do absolutely nothing in order to entertain a player or make themselves enjoyable, Astroneer might be of some interest to you but still it doesn't have huge amounts of unique content to offer.
Absolutely not playable in multiplayer, it crashes for every player in max. 30min, completely independent of their HW.
This is not a release worthy game.
Not sure if its completely worth 30 dollars but I find it very fun and charming, my biggest gripe is that the endgame doesn't feel that great
I'll be honest with you, I enjoyed playing this game. However, if you're planning to buy this game there's some important things I think you should know:
You're purchasing a game that contains microtransactions. They are for cosmetics, but still microtransactions in a paid game.
This game still has early access jank. It may be a fully released game now, but prepare to have endless interactions with buggy behavior, this didn't ruin my experience but it may ruin yours.
This game used to have a modding community. The devs of this game did everything in their power to make it impossible to mod this game. Do not expect this game to have a workshop in the near future because it wont. The devs are worried that people will circumvent their in game shop (a concern that was already addressed within the modding community).
The devs of this game do not listen to feedback.
Very funny, cool atmospheric space building game. Its nice to play in single player and chill, grind the challenges, discover the planets and loot. Also very funny to play with friends and cruise with the mobility features.
Started playing this on console. Truly one of the best experiences I have ever had with my friends.
Usually games like this have a tutorial of some sort. I have spent the first 10 minutes just walking around and checking the input settings trying to figure out what to do and how to do it.
If I cannot get started within 10 minutes of starting a game, it is designed poorly and not worth my time.
Refunded
Game was fun at first, I enjoyed learning the gameplay loop and explore the world, but then in a long distance trip from my base my truck (and oxygen supply with it) blipped out of existence, leaving me to die of suffocation. I grabbed my upgrades and materials from my death location and continue playing, but on a seperate long distance exploration the exact same thing happens. Frustrated by the amount of time I had spent trying to get my stuff back for no reason I set down the game and wrote this review.
Excellent game. I think things that are instorage to be automatically be taken from other units or be able to set a number of units to be made instead just keep it on repeat would be a good quality of life improvements.
Absolute Cinema. Playing about everything 100% besides the glitchrunners DLC, I can strongly say that this is one of the best experiences on Steam. Casual enough to zone out, yet demanding your attention to learn and combat different problems one planet at a time. Astroneer is peak. 10/10
Game consistently gets content updates and events.
7/10. Really cool concept and game design, had a lot of fun playing with a friend. I really enjoy the crafting progression because it allows you to discover more interesting features.
I just think it's missing some immersion with planet traveling and the different biomes. It's a little empty and the planets feel like copy-pastes with different settings. I wish they would add a little bit more spice to each planet.
its a good game for single player and multiplayer
Ohhh, okay, buckle up. Is it because of Astroneer? Yeah. I don’t just “like” Astroneer—I freaking LOVE Astroneer. Like, this game has no business being that good, and yet here I am, thinking about it at random times of day like it’s a long-lost friend I need to check on. It’s not even just a game to me anymore—it’s a whole vibe. That pastel-colored, low-poly art style? Gorgeous. The calm space ambience with those cozy little music tracks? Straight-up therapy. And the gameplay? Don’t even get me started.
You plop down on an alien planet with nothing but curiosity and a space suit, and somehow it becomes this epic journey of discovery, survival, and base-building greatness. Digging tunnels like a little space mole, zipping around in rovers, collecting weird science stuff, printing out entire factories from the literal dirt of the planet—how is that not the most satisfying thing ever? I mean, who gave it the right?
And the tether system?? Oh my god. WHO KNEW I could get emotionally attached to little glowing blue oxygen lines across a desolate alien world? There’s just something magical about setting up your network, expanding further and further, and turning this empty planet into a thriving outpost of pure space engineering chaos. The kind where you accidentally launch yourself into orbit because you forgot how gravity works on Glacio—and it’s STILL fun.
Also, let’s talk multiplayer. You and your friends bumbling around, trying not to suffocate while arguing about where to put the smelting furnace? Peak comedy. Peak friendship. Peak chaos.
Honestly, Astroneer is just… pure joy in game form. I could rant about it for hours, and I still wouldn’t scratch the surface of how much I love it. 10/10. Game of my heart. Forever and always.
Love this game! I almost exclusively play with its co-op mode, but I find that's part of the fun. I find my imagination wanders and fills in the gaps of the story line, theorizing far before anything can be revealed; one of my favorite things to do! There is a lot of automation capabilities for your base, and the recent Glitch Walker thing was super fun to play through after setting the game down for a few months. 8/10, definitely recommend!
Astroneer is a really fun game! It's very intuitive and you can feel very smart figuring out things like crafting stations. The story is kind of a background thing that's kinda bland, but the little pets you get are funny lil guys.
worst game ever if you wanna play with your friends. I bouth the game for my friend and me and it gives host error for nothing. This error is on internet there is no solution and i think they don't give a damn about it since lots of streamers already played game and they got enough money now so no fixing problems or bugs just let the hype get your money. Bravo! so great policy!
Astroneer is a very fun game, I had a lot of fun in it, late game was not that fun and I had to spend a lot of time just geting 1 or 2 items (That may or may not be because I didn't automate stuff) the soundtrack was really good and fit the vibe of the game, the lore was not bad (could have had more too it) so I'd give it a 7.5/10 if you want to buy it full price then go ahead but I would recommend geting it on sale.
Well made game with a significant amount of depth to what you can do.
Incredible how little storage space this game takes up!
No tutorial, beginning the game was super frustrating as it only tells you what to do, but never how to do anything. I got this thinking it'd be a chill, fun game, but ended up just annoyed having to watch youtube tutorials, at which point I just didn't want to play anymore. I gave it a second chance and came to the same conclusion.
Hidden behind the frankly awful to get used to camera controls and the game's frustrating dedication to not explaining anything well is a fairly entertaining crafting game (the survival aspect only lasts for a short while as two of the side mission unlocks make you literally immortal as long as you have the required plants).
Has some automation aspects, not a massive amount however and will sometimes need manual input to reset resource collectors. The story hidden in lore descriptions and behind some of the missions is surprisingly deep but satisfying come the 'end' of the game (spoiler, it's like Minecraft in that the game doesn't have an ending that stops you playing).
Pretty enjoyable, would definitely winch-catapult myself between planets again.
Tried giving the game a chance after all these years. Felt lost and confused the whole time, and the controls/menus feel terrible. It doesn't help that you basically get a PNG control guide during the startup cutscene, missing it all and getting overwhelmed with info that's never explained again (meaning it's not taught to you in a way that flows). Mission after mission gets dumped on you with no real explanation as to why, and your reward for completing a mission is unlocking another mission (or five at once).
And then to top it all off I learn it has microtransactions? Really? For what?
The core gameplay loop is fun, the progression is good, great visual style and atmospheric soundtrack. However I cannot recommend this game due to how unpolished it feels. Object sometimes clip through each others, tethers sometimes collide with vehicles, sometimes not, it's possible to lock platform in place but not the stuff above them, using a drill with a vehicle will require the camera to clip through the carriages, controller support feels rushed.
It feels like a late stage early access game. It's so close to be great, but lacks too many quality of life feature to make the gameplay "flow". Half of the time i feel like i'm fighting with the terrain or the snap system.
Unfortunately the developer started working on a new game, and that means that probably this problems will never be addressed. So unfortunately, I cannot recommend it.
The "tutorial" that pops up in the beginning is by no means sufficient, and I really don't care for trial and error to figure out how basic functions work. I don't have time in my day for lazily developed games.
This game gates its goodness behind ones tolerance to an unintuitive and frustrating onboarding experience.
System Era leans into immersion as well as world exploration in Astroneer being self driven. Almost to a fault, as this heavily impacts the early game experience. I'd argue that the guidebook provided is not an obvious enough resource to smooth the first steps.
"What's a compound"
"What's a resin"
"How do I find what I'm looking for"
"What are these blue lines"
"Hook a tether to my oxygenator? What does that mean?"
*puts bundle of tethers on side of shelter, runs away to explore, suffocates, rage quits*
Ok, so your immersive and self led game now needs a bit google/youtube to get ones legs under them...seems a bit counter productive.
All that said, Astroneer is a very fun game that ends up being better for the things that cause its initial shortcomings. Get over that hump, be rewarded in kind.
After trying to get back into the game this week, I remembered the disgusting nature of the in-game cosmetics shop.
The prices are insanely high and the in-game currency aims to obfuscate the amount of money you are actually spending.
That is awful behaviour from System Era.
I can mostly recommend the game itself but the ingame shop is just predatory
One of the best games to play when you just want to chill out. It is so relaxing and fun. One of my favorites.
So much fun, so many things to explore. i reccomend playing this game without any guide or spoiler
This game will always be at it's best when not played alone. it is addicting to create bigger and better machines whilst the exploration truly hits that chase of mystery. However i would not recommend for someone playing alone as there are too many frustrating bugs and mechanics to put up with.
This game was better in pre-alpha when the developers werent greedy about microtransactions.
In-game store in my paid game? Fuck off.
I love this game, the way the game looks and the gameplay. If your looking for a fun game to spend time on when your bored I highly recommend it! :3
I loved this game it was interesting and made me use my brain it was fun but the makers are d!cks. You eventually get an item to place that once placed you can't get rid of unless you buy the stupid dlc, if you don't want to start over in a new world. (which I didn't I spent hours in that world) It was a complete turn off for the game I don't recommend unless you're ok with being forced to buy something. :(
Astroneer is an amazing and calming game. It's a break from fast paced action or super high-res graphics. The calming simplicity yet the overwhelming amount of exploration allows this to be a super replayable game. I personally think this is the best space exploration game because of it's sheer amount of quality development and cute textures.
Note: (I have 450 hours on XBOX) :)
This game has changed a lot since I first played it a few years ago. Many many improvements to the systems in the game that make space exploration a bit more fun. The biggest negative of this game is how horrifically the vehicles control. They're impossibly bad to drive sometimes. However, the general progression of unlocking new resources and schematics is quite good. Simple game, doesn't require thinking too much and has absolutely no combat mechanics apart from plants that spit at you and you just mine the floor beneath them. Great game to play and chill out with, alone or with friends.
The game loses some points for the driving and generally infuriating UI management with manually moving each individual resource into containers and stuff. That gets extremely tedious when you go mine hundreds of resources and place each resource onto the storage and drive back to base and move them off one storage and on to another, one at a time.
Overall, I'd give it a 7.5/10.
I absolutely recommend this game (loved it enough to buy it for a second time on a separate platform), absolutely worth the money
at first i was confused in playing the game, but i still love it xD. i had to start all over multiple times just to understand, and little by little it all started to come to together in learning this game. for me playing this game is a bit wonky for controller, but i feel really good playing keyboard and mouse with this game. it so cute, and addicting. truly recommend anyone playing this game
