In Poly Universe worlds are tiny but numerous. Be strategic in laying out your cities to maximize the limited space available on each world. Balance industry and residential buildings to keep your citizens happy. But don't neglect the defenses necessary to keep them safe! Here in the outer edge of the known universe, danger can arrive at any moment, and when it does it arrives in full force.
Establishing trade routes between worlds will allow your planets to specialize and share resources, pushing the boundaries of your civilization even further outwards. But always keep an eye on the health, happiness, and education of your citizens -- with nowhere to receive reinforcements from, your citizens are ultimately your most valuable resource.

I like it. here are the pros and cons:
pros:
- simple grafics. (still lagy on my potatoe :( )
- has an sandbox mode.
- SPACE!!!
- difrent climates on diferent planets
cons:
- coloniseing new planets requres precise (season based) timeing, and math. :(
- wierd story
- visuals don´t mach the story (most things look too earth like)
- macro climates (dev, pls add climate variation to planets) and also there is no wheather.
I find there is nothing more beautiful than creating a blooming colony and explore the great unknown. A true marble in the making.
A nice city building game. I like the relaxing atmosphere it gives off and like the early workshop support and amazing art style!
This is a great relaxing casual game with pleasant aesthetics. I highly recommend it especially because the developer does keep refining and updating the game over time and responds to feedback on Steam also. Some other early reviews mention that the game crashes, which I experienced at some point also. At the time, I worked around this issue by switching from my nvidia dedicated graphics card to the built-in Intel graphics card. However, the developer fixed this issue now, I believe.
Fun game, at least up to the point where content is ready. Still feels a bit lacking atm with not enough variation but relatively linear progression. While the potential is sky high, it might still be worth the wait for a full(er) release. Still more than worth the money though.
I kinda in between it crashes a lot so you have to save a lot but really fun
It,s a fun game but currently i have 2 issues 1. the game crashes often 2. when I re-colonized a planet since my people died almost everyone on the home world got on the ship but then it never launched and i lost almost everyone my my home planet
Poly Universe is fun, responsive, the controls feel natural.
Another reviewer made the comparison to "kingdoms and castles", and that is true.
Both are very charming, well made games.
This is a very fun game but it does need more types of planets and buildings in the game. Also there should be different sizes to the planets like some should just be massive. While others are like the one you start on. I also think that there should be a military concept and a way to create a fleet of spaceships. (cruisers and starfighters ect.)
Right now i definitely encourage anyone to try this game because it's very addicting.
TL;DR: Didn't like the game before, like it now after the recent update.
After the latest update to the game, I feel the game's pacing and progression went ahead great strides. I find the game much, much more enjoyable now than when I wrote my first review. I'm changing my opinion from not recommended to recommended.
The main aspect that did it for me compared to my previous experience was the tech progression and narrative that eases you to the game a lot better than before. Before you just kind of, hanged around in a sandbox until you just suddenly died. The pacing is now more predictable and you have clearer objectives, for an example, colonize a planet for it's unique resources or research a certain technology to benefit your, uh, interstellar-ish nation.
You can read my is my previous review here:
I usually like strategy games that challenge the player, but somehow I feel kind of lost or confused while playing Poly Universe. I greatly adore the idea of the game, but I feel that it still falls short of it's idealism.
Summarum:
++ lovely aesthetics, this technical artist gives his thumbs up!
+ tutorial within gameplay, you play as you learn
+ gameplay on a globe composed of triangles, inspiring strategic descisions for the player!
+- while always innovative, the globe rolling doesn't really make intuitive gameplay
+- colonizing other planets, while seemingly worthwhile and fun, the game doesn't give any incentives for it, untily you die
-- rolling around the globe tasks your brain: whatthe quaternions and euler angles swear where the hell am i?!
-- pacing, the game doesn't really adjust to the player, things might happen "seemingly randomly"
- few real goals given by the game, you kind of... just hang around and do stuff? (and I play a lot of Dwarf Fortress)
Overall, I feel this game feels great in my hopes and dreams, but alas, I have had too little joy playing it.
However, I wish to support the developer by buying this game! I always love some new Linux strategy games on Steam!
I played 10 hours straight! While this is an early access game and there are still many bugs, I can say that I fully enjoy the experience. The planets look beautiful. I bought this game while reading your tutorial on medium. I can't wait to play the final version. Hope you can release part 4 tutorial soon. Good luck with your development.
I don't really do reviews so sorry if this drags on a bit. I really like this game. I got it about 2-3 months ago and am still having fun. I really like the addition of roads and bridges as well as the entire concept for the game. I have included tips for new players and bugs as well as suggestions if you want to read through.
For anyone starting out just a few tips that I needed when I started.
1. Drag from one planet to the one you want to travel to, to start an expedition. This took me a while to find out.
2. Place lots of farms for food. It gets harder in the late game with more peabs.
3. Use the 'Gather Peabs' task when being attacked, place it near your castles as well. It helps get them all together and move the trolls towards the castles.
4. Iron is important.
5. Place your bridges on 'flat' land. Make sure the ground, you place it on, is on the same level as the water or bugs occur.
6. Have your Jobs(J), Calendar(C) and Population(P) tabs always open to one side. It helps you organise your peabs and keep track of things you need to do. If you want you cant have one of the farms open to keep track of the growth, as well.
7. (This isn't really a tip) Mess around with different worlds. Create one with no trolls and mess around. Make one and try different seeds.
I have however found a few bugs, which is normal for an Early Acces Game, I would like to point them out to help the developers.
Sometimes when trying to get on the bridges the peabs will fall off, I have found this happens when the bridges are either not connected to a road or they are not on the same level as the water. They keep falling off and trying to get back on until they die.
Sometimes the white outlines for builds stay throughout worlds and it gets very annoying.
The peabs sometimes just starts spinning for no reason.
I have found alot of other bugs being fixed recently so sorry if these have been fixed.
And finally some suggestions.
Have upgrades for your buildings, such as a bigger house or farm.
More water buildings, as there is only the boat.
Birds and other animals you can hunt or do something with on the island.
More planet types and sizes.
More space things. Maybe a black hole or sun.
Terrain editer so you can fit more houses and buildings.
So thats it, if you got down this far, thanks for reading and I would definetly recommend this game to anyone who wants a chill fun time. I would rate the game a 7.5/10 as it still needs more things done to it.
I've really enjoyed the game thus far! The graphic style is really unique in its simplicity. The Peabs could use pyramids rather than elongated rectangles to match a little better, but other than that, it is charming. I like the energy style where they haul the stored energy almost like batteries to the buildings. Adds some extra eye candy as your workers bustle about. I love the trees exploding in colors when you chop them down. And the fall time leaves on the ground is beautiful.
Also, the idea of waste needing to be taken care of is great. Paperwork! Brilliant! And the blurb in the build menu for the Office is humorous. Maybe some more descriptions or pictures of the ingredients used to craft the tools and weapons would be nice when you mouse over them in the build menu and when you click on the building itself. Easier long-term planning.
The roads on the edge of the islands don't work well and the bridges are only used most of the time, so there could be improvements made there, but the roads are definitely faster than the fields.
All in all, it's a great game. I highly recommend and am excited to see more from this team!
This game has potential, I'll give it that. The issue however is that it has several bugs that will destroy your entire experience, and that is within the first 2ish hours I've played. It also seems as if the "lategame" is quite repetitive, but I have yet to colonise more than 2 planets so I might be wrong on that part.
Issue #1: Sometimes the colonists (Peabs as they're called) will try to remove food from the storagebuildings you have, and since all of them do it at the same time they start dancing around it in some sort of ritual until enough of them die that they have unhindered access to the food. This means you have to demolish the buildings, and rebuild them. This also means your peabs are gonna die, only to a lesser extent.
Issue #2: As soon as you get to your second planet, and want to place down your houses, the targeting circles for where you put it down disappear. This means you have to guess where it is, and hope that the buildings get built the way you want them to. This takes away alot of the game, as a big part of it is to manage what little land you have to make the most efficient colony.
Issue #3: The game is not good with tooltips/tutorial. You get three missions, and a short explanation of how things work in the beginning. However, the missions are simply "build this building, reach this population" and gives little guidance. As you are about to embark with your spaceship, you are told to "Use the galaxy map and launch your spaceship". It doesn't tell you how to launch (click and drag, which sounds easy to see, but it isn't".
Maybe an Issue #4: No matter what you do, the enemies seem to always kill off multiple peabs when they attack, and since only about a third of your population is effective (assigned at a job as farmer/fisherman per se) your jobs gets reassigned in a way you don't want or have control over. I tried building all the possible defense I could, almost starving the planet, and still at 60+ peabs the enemies killed off 9. It might be me being bad at the game, but still.
TL;DR: I can't recommend this game for the moment. It is a galaxy simulator that becomes buggy as you try to leave the first planet, it is buggy on the first planet, and it seems as if the content becomes a grind late in the game. Try other colony games instead.
I really like this game. It was really hard to stop playing once I started.
Cute. Beautiful. Addicting.
And for that price tag, absolutely worth it!
I am looking forward to more updates and seeing how this gem grows!
This game has a lot of promise as a relaxed, fun, town-builder type of game, but it's mared by poor balance and (potentially) an imposisbility to progress to colonizing the galaxy (as of 23 July 2018). I've played as far as I could twice, and both times been completely wiped out by invaders, even at 60 population with industry doing ok. I suspect that this is by design, so you can't find that colonising other worlds isn't possible yet (I built a launchpad and... nothing happens, couldn't find out how to colonize anything). **EDIT: you have to click-drag from the galactic map to colonize. Wat?! **
All this could be forgiven if the developers were more active, however, I've tried to look up the developers on the internets and I can only find an old web page (doesn't even list Poly Universe!). There's no way to email them, no twitter account, nothing. Who knows if they will ever take the game anywhere, fix the interface and feature bugs ("jobs" list doesn't work, and wasn't even findable in my second game), and massive balance issues.
Keep an eye on this game, but don't bother with it for now. You can watch my video of playing it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip5m96jgk2w
Well i dont normally write reviews but i feel that this is a good game worthy of some love and words. First off it reminds me so much of other games i love such as Bannished and Kingdoms and Castles. It has a charming allbeit rather triangular art style which i rather enjoy as its different. The core came mechanics are there. OBVIOUSLY theres a few bugs here and there but nothing that breaks the game. Id love to see this game go further with things such as larger planets with moons, bridges, a rework of the build menues so they fit their purpose better, a rotating camera ability, and maybe some terrain filling or leveling abilities to name a few.
Overall though for 10 dollars its great! Its already pollished enough to play for a few hours before youve done most things. The only thing i havent done yet is colonize more than 2 planets and aquire the multiple forms of energy production.
So long as this developer keeps up with the game and the community, this game will go far and be a joy to play!
this is so difficult to win..... and have some error...
1. when i want to launch my space machine, try to click launch button. but button is removed from window. it need some explain of condition for launch. and the condition is so particular about launch. the amount of resource is so small. it make so hard to establish a colony. i hope to be reconciled this condition.
2. i think that this game made to defeat. even though no longer the territory don't become wider(limited attacked tower and people) ,enemy become more strong.
3. when i establish new colony, the lattice of building disappeared. it means that lattice of building don't exist at window of the colony.
4. every time people dies, all window must be manipulated.
i want to listen about a check about the problem and some answer about the result.
english so hard TT
You start the game on a small planet with some resources and settlers and you need to build up an empire and try not to have all your settlers die from trolls. This game is really good, and pretty difficult. You can colonize other planets too, but I would recommend going to another temprate planet before going anywhere else. the first time I went to another planet, I went to a desert planet, and because there was no wood, my peabs died. In its current state, I rate this game 6.5/10.
Suggestions: planets that vary in size, more ways to produce energy, and more structures you can place on water.
I may not be good at reviewing games here on steam, however, I shall give it a go!
You begin with nothing, all you have is a crashed ship with little resources which you have to build up into a prosperous colony, you have to contend with your little manpower and large assault from "Trolls" from space. all of this makes it difficult to get going, your gonna fail many times before you get to your second planet. Yes, the second planet, the other aim is to become a multi-planet race as soon s possible, sadly I've yet to get that far, but given the enjoyment I've found so far, I'm sure it will be great fun. SO if you want to buy a small colony game, then this is the one to get! In a way, it's a mini universism,. without all the complex parts there, making it much much easier to understand!
