The text is great. And story really cares about your choices in the first game. I mean, there is very small numbers of game that change that drastically depending on if you married the princess or not, and on fate of the villian from the first game, there is like three different CoG games in one, with multiply ways and challenges. And then there is decent, if short, sidestory. But the problem is the interface. The game made in such way that you will be VERY tired by by clicking. I mean, try buy 50 horses one by one by clicking on option, scrolling down long list, and clicking it again. And that stuff is very common here. Francly, game need sliders very hard (and CoG don't have sliders as far as I know) or, at least, input strings (which are supported, althought it will turn playing on mobile into hell too).
In short: Great adventure which cares about your choices on complitely wrong engine.
I'd like to preface this with the fact that I don't really consider this a *bad* game, as I can see the potential.. but unfortunately steam doesn't allow Neutral reviews still
First off, this game is nowhere near as good length wise as the first game.. but I can tell that there's somewhat of a reason for that, as I think the author has made it quite broad.. there are lots of different possibilities as to how your imported save can have turned out, and if I'm correct, I believe it lets you play out all of them.. though it does at the start rejig your stats back to bases a little sadly, and has changed a few things compared to the ending text of the first one
I believe that's partly why it's so short.. it lacks in length, but I suspect it has lots of breadth
If you're the type of person who played these games multiple times to try all different kind of endings, I think you will likely be quite happy with this one, as it will let you continue on all of those adventures and see all the different paths
If you tend to prefer just playing through once or twice, I feel you might not be getting as much out of it unfortunately
While I did like it a little as a continuation, I did feel the writing wasn't quite as good as the first one, possibly just because of the ambitious attempt at a fully branching story. I think the more tighter path of the first one worked more to their favour
All in all, I think it's a lot weaker than the first, which I truly enjoyed, but I wouldn't consider this was a vital addition to the series. I was pretty satisfied with how the first game ended up
Really nice and simple adventure game, I've enjoyed it all along. Maybe the end of the game came too early or kind of unexpected (thought there would be some more scenes), yet it was really fun. Much recommended for people how loved and love the page-turning book rpg games. :)
Uninspired. Buggy. Unfair, vague and boring gameplay. A general waste of my time. I tried to like this game coming from someone who enjoyed the first one but after dying to a barbarian raid on normal 2+ hours in I don't think I can be bothered to jump back in to try again. It's incredibly cheap but I still don't think it was worth my money, anyone giving this good reviews must have low standards and are yet to find the genuinely good 'choice of' games. Disappointed.
While first one was bearable, this one is pure shit.
- This game is written like a novel for teens
- Battles play out by player clicking "next" over 30 times
- No interesting new characters
- In the first one you've had more choices that corresponded with your stats
- Story plays out like it would be 2-3 times longer than it is. It is all about growing your kingdom and interacting with characters, and when the time comes you get "the end" game screen without any further explanations than your kingdom did prosper(or not)
- Game boasts about its replayability, but after this short story I'm not really interested what would happen if I would make different choices
- Artwork in this game is lacking. I know that it is interactive novel, but still it contains some artwork. Creator of this game should just make decision, add artwork to this game, or not. Adding just a few pieces of artwork just shows that he doesn't treat player seriously.
- Minor choices that don't really make sense. For example: at the start of the game you can name your firstborn son, it is a cool idea, but he doesn't have any major role in the plot, not to mention that when your daughter is born, she just gets name "Victoria" and game doesn't ask me for my opinion. Another one is that during the game, you can found military academy for training knights from common folk. It is again a cool idea, but it boils down to getting handful more knights for your army, and game still ends in next 20 minutes without mentioning that academy that was supposed to be something "big" for your kingdom.
- "Stats" from first game. I don't get that I'm importing a savegame from the first adventure, and I lose all my progress because of reasons. I get that maybe somebody wanted to play this part as diplomat, while he finished the first one as a knight, but it looks like I'm starting a new game and not countinue from save.
Overall it is a lazily coded and written game, do not buy it unless you are a fan
The great tournament 2 : pretty much like the first one globally ; a good sequel that continues the spirit of the first game.
Now for the specifics : the mechanics have improved in the way that they seemed less awkard and frustrating to me. Plus, they blend more in the story and does'nt disturb the story telling from the get go as it was the case in the first title.
The characters are still the same : simply depicted in a few words, yet gives a sense of depth in their interactions and dialogue. What's impressive is that each wife has a dedicated start, it's lovely and really enjoyable. It's well written and gives a sense of continuity. You can see the author cared.
Now what's a shame is that this sense of continuity does'nt carry in the game. It's just at the start. The characters leaves place to the neutral storytelling and the action. What felt really personal and touching in the interactions with the side characters when you meet them for the first few times just vanish completely after that.
Worst, the ending. It's just... "the end". With one sentence, ok maybe two. And just after an epic scene each time whichever ending you get ! Damn it's the first time I see an incredible story ending like that. Litterally catapulted with two half-hearted narrative sentence. What happends to our adorable characters ?! The hero, the wife, the sidekick, the master, the children ?! There's so much to say and it feels like the author just lacked the time or the ressources to finish. Please, add a few scene at the end ? I'm ready to pay for it.
And I should probably have started with that but this game is more like a compilation of average lenght stories. That's probably why the endings seemed so brutal. What's awesome is that these really different storyline depends on the first games and each of them are awesome in its own way and is worth playing. Now if only the ending was improved...
Also, why a survival mode ? Why a mini side story ? Yes they're enjoyable and add depth to the universe but if I had the choice between that and proper ending for each storyline and romantic interest then I would have chosen the later and I would really been grateful if that was corrected even if I seem insistent.
So that's it. I loved that one, its story, its management side and its wide, fresh and charismatic cast of characters. I recommend playing it of course. I was disappointed by the ending.

though it seems to have had some issues carrying over events from the first game. but if things like that don't bother you then its worth the read.
it's a bit short compared to the first game... but it's good.
The villain is the most stubbornly one-dimensional character every written. The battles are tedious and repetitive. The story is an insult to the term "railroaded." I truly hope Choice of Games removes this game from their recommendations. I feel betrayed and cheated of my time.
This is the worst CYOA I have ever played.
EDIT: The "villain" I am referring to above is Malik, who was a rival of sorts in the first game. Note that even taking every option to be nice to him, even helping him significantly in the first game, he still has it out for you and goes to amazing lengths to get to you.
Great continuation of the first game. I've played through a lot of CYOA games, and these two are among my favorites. As other reviews have said, fantastic replayability and so far the consequences have had a big impact while also making me feel like I'm somewhat in control (it's clear what you're doing when you make choices, level up, spend gold, etc.).
I played the first game on my phone for free, really enjoyed it so I waited for the second part to release here on steam so I can buy and play it on my phone.
Game is really well written, I really enjoy my time reading it and it suprised me how much of a difference it makes depending on what choises you make and how you ended up in the first game, like litterally a complete new game/book if you f.e lost the great tournament from the first game
10/10 (best text adventure I've played so far (haven't played many though lol) )
