To deliver a seamless and unique experience, we created our own engine - presenting a massive 2D Open World in realtime, with no loading times inbetween. Every part of the universe is alive and active at every moment.

There you are, human.

At the face of a habitable planet way outside the Kuiper Belt, inquiringly gazing at the same stars as the rest of the living species. Everyone? Doesn’t look like we will ever find out.

The past is shadowed by war. Generations of humanity have fought on the edge of survival. First against themselves – until technology started to rise, created to serve their innate greed for dominance. During Earth times, self-inflicted catastrophes kept humanity struggling and finally forced the big departure. And yet, here they are. Split up all over the solar system, living separate realities under various conditions.

Everything is different – and actually nothing ever really changed. A new mindset of unity, awoken by the end of the Machine War, is facing hard times. Beneath the curtain of false peace and hope, bad blood had always remained. Old and new enemies are rising again and humanity will have to face its greatest trial, yet. Will you be part of mankind's downfall or guide the system into a brighter future?

It's in your hands.

And then there's us

We love gaming and we always wanted to realize our own vision of a good game. Back in 2011, this project was started with the motivation to unify the "good old" mechanics that had been around for decades and give them a nice polish with today's visual and technical standards.

It was influenced by games like Fallout 1 + 2, Diablo, Grand Theft Auto, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Escape Velocity, Deus Ex & Co. Creating a game only half as good as those titles is a real challenge, but we will make the best effort to create something you'd enjoy!

This game has a disjointed story that's difficult to make sense of. It's also difficult to know what to do next or where to go. Maybe I'm just dumb, but it's tedious and I lost interest pretty quickly.

Feels a little grindy but the first time you get a good blueprint and get all the materials then build that ship, that big upgrade- that leads to better equipment...you're hooked. If this is your kind of game you know what I'm talking about.

Simple. Slow. I like it. Not sure how long the story is. Hacking gives you tons of money.

As far as the game plays it pretty much like the physics of SPAZ 1.
Difference being Gaia is way more depending on dialog and can get a bit slow now and then.
I'm having a hard time with it, since I wanna relax popping stuff into the silence of space, but there's a story and so much dialog to go through at every turn in Gaia.
It's not a bad thing though if you have time to read and follow the instructions to seek out ppl and items.
Just a heads up for anyone expecting a "hardcore spaceshooter",,it is not.
If SPAZ had a child with Space Rangers this might be what you get ^^
Anyho it's a nice game and I enjoy it when I have time to sitdown for longer periods.

It's a game that does two things well; its unique art style and a great soundtrack. That's about it. But it's just enough to push it over the top. It reminds me too much of SPAZ, which is one of the all time greats.

The map is too small, and there's very little, if any, hostility unless you get lucky or venture to a few specific points on the map. I went all the way from a shuttle to a battleship without fighting any pirates.

Balance is completely off whack, where the only thing really worth doing to get money is to hack chests. Mining is nice to get upgrade mats, but those can also be bought with cash gotten from selling chest contents. The trading is horrid, with seemingly static inventories on every single npc. And once you drain the very small coffers of a particular store, or fill up their inventory, that's it. Time to find a new one. Not to mention there is no way to keep track of good items unless you write them down yourself (in-game option for that at least).

Trying to mine in a capital ship is almost impossible, as even the best mining lasers barely outrange your own ship, making it necessary to ram the asteroids instead. Which would be ok if the game was in alpha, but according to Steam and the devs it is not. Another thing that feels very early access, is the AI. Watching it fumble through an asteroid field, often blowing themselves up in the process, was amusing the first few times, but that kind of thing shouldn't happen in a released game.

Also, how about making the player ship brake to a complete halt when dialogue is initiated? I lose all control, but my ship keeps flying, making me have to rush through the dialogue. Worst case, my ship rams a friendly target too many times and they turn hostile. Just happened in the final dialogue, making me have to read the text, then reload and rush through it.

The story feels very disjointed and weird, almost as if it's not even finished (it's not). I still enjoy the game, mostly because of the excellent art style and the soundtrack. There are some pretty cool ships and weapons too.
