Maybe is better game about blacksmith at the moment. I really enjoy this game. The main story is nice and each hero has own story well written. There is an lot of content about townfolks, alloy, weapons and there are an lot of mosters are different day/night, there are many dungeons and fight is challenger (easy play but hardly mastered) and is not too slowly as you unlock new alloys and shapes of weapons. You need be careful about stats and quality of weapons of your heroes.
You can play game slowly or not, depend your gameplay.

Overall, great game about blacksmith. Really nice. Keep update.

Fun game but I wish there were more guides for it. It's confusing at first but once you get the hang of it the game is entertaining. Wish though when sending heroes into a dungeon to speed it up even more than what the fast forward button does. I still have many questions and I can only trial and error it due to lack of guides.

I just fancy blacksmithing and gave a chance to the only game that seems to have a depth in more than one way. I came looking for copper, found gold. It deserves much more credit than it has. Loved it.

Fun blacksmithing game with RPG elements such as heroes questing into dungeons for loot, as well as a bit of management. The RPG elements aren't traditional, however. For starters, your heroes don't "level up" the way you'd think like you being able to select things such as more health for the tank, more dexterity for the DPS, etc. Instead, you "level up" your heroes by making better gear for them to increase their armor rating and damage output. You also need to check their gear's durability from time to time to make sure they're as effective as possible. You don't actually control the fights in the dungeons either, which makes sense given that a blacksmith typically wouldn't accompany heroes on their quests. You DO however get to control when they use the one skill each brings (potions for some, a special attack for others). Your heroes will not give you the gold (items they get they'll give you though) they get from dungeons straight out, but rather save it to buy gear from you, pay for repairs, etc. If a hero does not have enough gold for the gear you want to sell them, you can take what gold they do have and give them the gear anyways as a discount if you want.

The management is more along the lines of using various ingots you have and gold certain villagers have to repair buildings (if they don't have enough you can pay for it for them), as well as maintaining their tools and selling them better ones that you make (see the above bit about heroes not having enough gold, you can give villagers discounts too). Upgrading their tools will do various things. Usually doing so will mean that villager will produce more of their goods to sell to you, so you get more of what you need faster. It can also mean villagers will make more money to spend on repairs and upgrades, so you can upgrade them faster. Additionally, there's even an upgrade that will help your heroes heal overnight.

The game autosaves every time you go to sleep, and that's when you receive items as well. You can also choose a specific hero to go on a daily quest for you (even if you've spent your Dungeon Token) and this is when that will happen. If you have not spent your Dungeon Token (and you get one for free every day, additionally you can buy more one at a time if you want from a certain NPC) and go to sleep, another hero will go on an additional quest. You receive items from these daily quests when you sleep.

You can actually level yourself up by forging and repairing things to gain experience and thus research points, which you can invest along with gold to learn new things to make that add stats to the weapons and armor you sell to your heroes, thus increasing their effectiveness in battle. Additionally, you have a stamina bar that dictates how much you can accomplish in a single day and can be refilled either through sleeping or eating.

All in all, this game is absolutely worth the full price in my opinion. If you get get it on a sale, it's a steal. The graphics might be a bit on the simple side, but don't let that fool you: This game is very in-depth and fun. If you like blacksmithing, medieval/fantasy settings, and Soda Dungeon-style RPG mechanics, this game is absolutely right up your alley.

A nice game to play and live a life of a local blacksmith. It could however do with some UI improvements by explaining things more or letting things be done more easily.

I bought this game without knowing much about it beyond what's on the store page and I genuinely enjoyed it.
It's not perfect by any means, there are some bugs...
However, the core game play is solid.
If you are looking for a way to forge away a few afternoons give it a try, you'll know rather quickly if this game is for you or not.
There is also some new content and bug fixes going on, that got me back into the game again.
Thanks for the game dev!

I'm so disappointed! This game has been really fun to play, but as Retoran posted a few hours ago, this game is buggy-- the dialogue box gets stuck open after sleeping and it's not just when you leave it open when you go to bed, sometimes it just doesn't go away! Restarting the game makes you play the previous day over then I ended up having the same bug. Same thing happened on a clean save. They released a patch this morning, I wonder if that's the problem? Please fix this because the game itself is quite fun!

EDIT: I changed to recommended because of not based on the quick response time of the devs and their interest in improving the game quality.

Just nipped back to write a first impressions review. In short, I can only guess that content updates are regular, as many of the other reviews complain of lack of tutorials, yet there appears to be an abundance of them. That said, you are pretty much free to decide if you wish to focus on supplying tools and equipment on demand or wish to prioritise other things.

I do feel the day was a little rushed and would prefer the clock advanced at half the current pace. It would also be nice to see the clock while looking at the map. In addition, where as you'd expect many buildings close at certain hours, it would be more friendly if "Closed" signs and "Open at" appeared constantly over the currently closed buildings, so you could instantly see your options.

When you find and chat with villagers you'll automatically note things that are needed by them ie tools. When in the smithy, click the appropriate yellow button and you'll see the currently outstanding list.

It would improve things further if you had "objectives" added too. Though the game leaves you free to pursue your preferences, and talking to the NPCs does steer you towards some of the priorities, having a helpful reminder at hand for things you should probably get done would be good. The speed of the day makes it likely you won't get all of your to-do list done though, so feels a bit rushed in pace, but it's not a big issue.

The graphics are reminiscent of "Don't Starve". All in all though, especially for an Indie title, it's one I'd highly recommend giving a go. The game play is interesting. For those moaning about how tedious smithing is, I would point out that at least on first impressions it's a relatively quick and straightforward process and does deserve a game mechanic. But then with such reviews having 2 hours game play time, despite numerous things to do, each to their own..

The game itself is built upon a good idea. It's different and does stand out on that front and there is most certainly a gap in the market that needed filling. Being able to smelt some ore, work a few alloys, knock together a new saucepan for the local inn keep, improving the quality of his services for the residents and passing heroes, then fund the growth of the inn lodgings, equip a hero and fund a trip to the local mine for more ore... all in all first impressions are of a game with great scope and plenty of interest. I'll be heading back to it shortly.

I would have to recommend this one. Clearly an indie title, it has charm and a wide scope of game play. For the casual gamer, you'll be please to know it's hard to "get wrong". You get resources daily and can buy more from the miners. Clicking "Clients" will show you the state of your known customers. Upgrading their gear to a better quality metal is the simplest means to make profits assuming of course they have the means to pay. If not, check if you can bring them any business ie by trade. For the most part there is no set order for things you need to do. The speed the day passes is a little fast for those who like to chill and mill things over. Would be nice if that was an option to slow down. As there seem to be a small handful of people struggling, some general tips:

1) DON'T send your heroes on tougher quests unless they are ready. Copper quests are easiest, with the top seemingly easier than the next one down etc. There are means to increase your party size. Take advantage of it if you plan to take on harder content. Make sure you've used the Clients button to summon and re-equip heroes who aren't well geared when you have the opportunity. Keep an eye on their general state.

2) At the smithy hit the button to view your Inventory / Stock. The first tab shows you ore, next shows you ingots, going through to equipment at the end. If you have old, unwanted equipment, you can smelt it at the smelter to get some resources back. When smelting ores, ideally use any goblin ears / tin etc you have to make better quality metal first, using up spare copper as a last resort. DON'T use the alloys function unless you need to ie to convert copper to bronze. Unless your timing is good you'll likely otherwise just waste metal and likely have been better off doing it from ore.

3) You CAN equip heroes with the wrong armour type ie leather to make ends meet but if you upgrade the tools of your miner and buy an ore cart, you'll likely get plenty of metal in no time.

4) Sending heroes with big heavy weapons in one group will likely drop the mobs pretty fast. Make sure your front guy is beefed up with protection OR take some potions to heal him.

I like to play my games on easy mode... I'll leave you stewing with that for now.

Jumping into it - the first thing to say is that it was addictive. The pull of the game has caught me a few times. Every time I've invested a half hour into the game I've found myself lost in it for 2-4 times that.

There is nothing wrong with the desire to play more. In normal cases wanting more is a good sign that the game has you riveted. But being at the edge of your seat is not the whole story here.

I like the story of the game to flow nicely so that my experience is filled and void of any boring bits. The experience does not need to be dependent on words to be properly conveyed. Discovering game mechanics, honing the efficiency of a system, or solving a string of puzzles can all be - what I see - as story. And here is where I see two stories clashing.

I am keen to get through the dungeons and unfold the rest of the game while taking part in the traditional "story" part. But I don't want to. Ultimo and whatever lies beyond feel like challenges I need to be prepared for. And like my pokesquad being 10+ lvls higher at all times - I want to perfect my team before I go. But it's not the team being fully equipped that has me anxious about not seeing the next part of the story.

I want my OWN craft to be honed to a precise point. I want my days and weeks in game to be structured and patterned. To be organised. And as time rolls by - with no concern for you or your actions - the days become a mad rush to think out the best action plan in the shortest space of time. And it's this that has me worried that I'll be spending all my time on my days efficiency before any story progression.

But that might all be okay.
The additional tools and dodads are a steady iteration on the little puzzles of the world.
The refining of my system makes each bit of efficiency I eke out a new achievement.
The combination of every new mechanic brings awe as it forcibly unfolds before me.
And every part of this process is just another piece of a fully fleshed out Story that has me itching for more. This game is a very lovingly made sim - and it's more then just that. It is a quirky tale, some cleverly thought out systems, a well made game (for game sake), and a humble approach to art.

If you can stomach the first impressions you will be in for an interactive connoisseur treat. It might remind you that a good meal is not necessarily comprised of the most expensive ingredients.

~Seriously - I love Ultimomoto san <3

Will update once I give more of a chance.

The gameplay is a bit bewildering, I looked up a guide, that helps. There's a lot of tutorials in books above your characters bed, which the game tells you about and is just like "We've told you enough, go click on those." A few of the tutorials need to be bought by a vendor, yes really.

It's very slow. You have to talk to NPCs a lot and click on things and tell them what to do, you also have to walk to them, with your very slow walking animation. Which is tedious as all hell. Can only walk to the end of the farm and the church so many times before you wish your blacksmith was dead. But if he did die, he'd probably come back as a much slower zombie.

The items require very precise timing when crafting or they'll break and you'll lose your patience with the game. It's a series of click at the right time 5 times, and then click and hold for the right time once. And that's... entirely it.

When crafting cloth armour, you still have to smith it and quench it... Which is just bloody lazy on the developers part...

The requirements to make them are not very common. I unlocked Iron, from the mine... and it was a huge event in the game.... and.... For days, I didn't get any iron... I did what it told me to do, I gave the dwarves better picks, but still, no iron. So.... it's possibly broken.

NPC's often can't afford to pay you, so you have to split the difference... Lame right?

The font is weird, I found myself getting capital G's mixed up with C's a lot. One of the heroes is called Grobar, not Crobar... Apparently.

There's a dungeon minigame thing, that consists of watching NPC's walk across the screen and some of them have abilities that you can use once or twice.... But most abilities are passive.

It's not an awful game, but I can't recommend it. In my opinion, it's not very fun. You might love it, but I'd recommend getting it on a discount. It feels like a phone game. Granted without the microtransactions.

And of course, I do apologise to the developer. I just didn't enjoy it. Maybe someone else will.

An interesting game, good plot with interesting twists and original gameplay experience. Worth its price. Learning curve is a little steep, but don't look over the internet, it's much more fun to try and discover. A simple spread sheet halfway through once you have multiple alloys to mess with will become handy. There is part of the game being actual crafting skills, but mostly its about time management.

Only con is: there are still many crashes that haven't been fixed...

I like the unique take this game provides. I can definitely feel the mix of Idle/RPG, which I love. There seems to be a lot more to the game than I first realized. Just learned I will eventually get to enchant the gear I make and that there will be bosses my heroes have to face. I like the town management side as well, keeping the villagers in the best tools has a lot of benefits and seems to be a lot of things to unlock for the town.

I also personally like the art style, it has a paper mario feel to it, though I am sure some may not agree.

The dev has been very helpful too and seems to be involved and I think plans to continue to work on the game.

I really enjoy this game. I have always been interested in blacksmithing and enjoy the game's story progression. Ever wonder how the heroes made it through that dangerous dungeon when the odds were stacked against them. As they are swinging away with abandon at the monsters in the cave, their weappons and armor do not break. Thats how!!! And this wouldnt be possible without you the blacksmith. Enough said...

I like that the developer is very commited to timely updates as needed as well as gathering input from the gamers. This is something I really appreciate and will continue to play. Keep it up!!!

I played a few hours, having played it pre-release.

What can I say? Cool idea, cool design, cool voices, in blacksmith you take the role of the town's blacksmith, helping the town and the heroes to develop themselves.

Also lots of contents, lots of weapons/armors/dungeons/short stories from each character to discover and more with the updates.

What I really love is you can prepare the heroe you chose with these big weapons, send them to a dungeon and see that shiny new weapon hitting some big numbers (really like Krush). The forge isn't complex but can require some skills to take out all of it and overall the gameplay is very nice.

Equip those heroes and drive them to glory!

As indie games come i found i really enjoyed the stylised art and chilled music in this RPG. The game is about the creation of different weapons and the process of it. Most games just give you a huge sword lying in the grass that kills hundreds of men, but Blacksmith makes you work for it and actually learn the about the craft of forging weapons. I liked the names of the characters and the way the game flowed, Crowbar Mcfierce! The battles and dungeons give the game some good depth and the story and dialogue is pretty funny at times.

Would definitely recommend

Blacksmith is an innovative game, in terms of gameplay and concept.
To me It’s a fusion of simulator (when forging) and rpg.
It possesses a lot of charm and you can easily spend a couple of hours forging and questing.
As this game is early access, it still has some minor bugs that need addressing, however, if you are into rpg’s and medieval fantasy this is something different from what’s available on the market.
If you’re not, it’s an accessible way to get into this genre as the controls and concepts are quite intuitive and when combined with the hand drawn animation style and funny character voices, it makes for a fun game.

I really like the concept of the game, and hope that some of the bugs/features can be fixed or implemented.
One feature I think would be very helpful is a 'time stop' when reading the instruction manuals / tutorials.
I would also like a feature where you can sell old weapons; if there is such a feature I haven't been able to find it.
There was a message that said that the merchant would visit the town on Saturdays, but I didn't see the merchant?
I would also like a feature where our heroes could 'gain experience/levels' when we send them in dungeons, and maybe very slowly increase their health/str/dex/int. Perhaps a starting 10/20/30 for stats instead of 1/2/3 would make it easier to implement such a feature.

There are also some bugs, for example a few times after I finished a weapon, I found myself 'out of the screen' (way at the bottom, in the forge); there was also once a 'black screen' after the blacksmith woke up in the morning.
In my most recent game, I sent the hero Krush with a double axe and a bronze plate; I ended up 1-hit killing the first enemy, however when I was faced against the 2nd one, my double axe missed about 30-40 times in a row, and although the enemy did "0" damage each time, the durability of my armor also went down for each hit, which I think is counter-intuitive; the enemy's weapon was at 0 durability and could still damage my armor each hit.

Blacksmith has a very good mix of micro-manage and strategy to it. The only qualm I had previously was combat speed, which is now adjustable. I haven't gotten far, however there seems to be a decent amount of depth to it so far.

Looking forward to see where it goes from here.

This is a nice game about a blacksmith and how he can influence the town improvements and heroes' strength. At first you'll struggle to know what's what and how to make a good equipment. But later on when you've comprehended how things work it will be quite easy to do.
There's some that I think can still be improved like the shortcuts, battle speed that have minuscule effect and overlapping popup message but overall it's good

I have about 15 hours in game, having played it pre-release.

Blacksmith is fundamentally about equiping heroes and upgrading your town, you unlock new items/charaters and stories by sending your heroes on missions and interacting with the townsfolk and other characters you meet.

Its these little stories that play out with characters, as you upgrade and gain rapor with them, that I've really enjoyed. Each character has their own little arc to discover. You might be required to send a certain hero to a certain dungeon to progress their stroyline, or you might meet a new character/find new items or be able to contruct new buildings.

I have about 7 hours in one single playthrough and I still have plenty of character quests to finish, dungeons to complete and gear to craft.

There are some visual bugs and a bit of polish needed, but with future updates to equipment/townbulding/characters and story on the way, theres a lot to look forward to.
