Yuzi Lims: anime runner is a crappy pointless endless runner with asset flipped sprites and slapped together badly with ClickTeam Fusion. Of course this is from the Russian asset flippers at Snlk Studio (and their dodgy associates). This is bad even for an endless runner as you see a top down view and run up the screen while dodging park benches... it's just pure garbage.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.

The game features somewhat lazy, simplistic 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing.

The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers.

Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the Clickteam Fusion game engine/toolset - the "No-Code" construction kit that "Anyone can make games with!!". Including, you know, people who aren't game developers. Which is a problem. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it's free (so they don't have to pay for GameMaker Studio) and doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's arguably worse than GameMaker Studio). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. That's right, only 5. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is to be expected. Gamers just didn't take this low quality game seriously, and for good reason.

Yuzi Lims: anime runner is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

Not a bad game for cheesing achievements.

However, the game glitches periodically like clockwork (maybe it's intentional? Hmm...), which will make it super hard to win if you are moving around a lot. (I have glitched into obstacles so many times, I nearly gave up on getting all of the achievements and have just recently come back to this thanks to quarantine).

Pro tip if you really want to get all of Yuzi Lims' goodies after taking her to dinner so many times:
1. Stay in one lane. (Choose either the right or left lane of grass between the paved paths and stay there. I stayed on the right since I seemed to have more trouble angling Yuzi correctly on the left).
2. Position yourself carefully between the obstacles. (If you do this correctly, you should not run into any obstacles and will literally just be cruising through space and time until your limited attention span derps up).
3. Do not move Yuzi Lims and only press space bar to rack up points. (If there are coins that naturally occur in the path you have chosen, great. If not, don't go after them. Not even if you see 'em pop up in the middle or the opposite side-- I mean, not unless you are a gaming god and the laws of computer physics don't apply).
4. Profit. (If you follow the above-mentioned steps, you will get most if not all achievements in one go).

So there you have it.
Cheese on, my brothers and sisters. Let this be a small win an era that continues to rage with the unstoppable and seemingly inevitable peculiarities of living life in the strangest and most infectious of times.

This is the 4th review of the Steam Redlight series, a series where I purposely seek out negatively or controversially rated games on Steam to see if they're as bad as the Internet says they are. It's accompanied by a video review that can be found here.

In summary, I can’t recommend this game, while I’d expect to be tolerant given that it’s a 99 cent game, the gameplay is just too poorly implemented to have much semblance of enjoyment, in addition to the game not working in resolutions higher than 1080p.

Introduction

My first thought going into this was “Who’s Yuzi Lim? And why is she now an anime runner?” That question wasn’t answered. My second question is “Why is the anime runner we play as different from the person on the Steam banner?” I looked to the game for answers for naught.

My tertiary question was “What’s the point of this game?” and through some elementary-grade critical thinking, I found the answer: to score 50,000 points. Why that arbitrary number? Because all 55 achievements can be had if you get to 50,000 points.

Now your next line will be “So what’s the gameplay like?” well, you press the left arrow key to move left and the right arrow key to move right with the intent of dodging oncoming hurdles. You occasionally collect coins for 250 points, and when prompted, press the space bar to collect 500 points. It seems like you generate one point every tenth of a second. My point values may be slightly off, but they’re mostly accurate.

Now I have to apologize because I just went ahead and spoiled everything, because that third paragraph contains 100% of the gameplay. There is nothing else to be discovered — the game is an endless runner. Since there’s nothing else to talk about, let’s move on to what’s good and maybe not-so-good.

The Good

The game gives you the ability to mute its infinitely looping song. This is mentionable mostly because you may be surprised at how many lowly-rated games where this is not a matter-of-fact.

This game also only takes up about 12 megabytes, which once you start playing it, you’ll realize why. I do wonder what takes up the most amount of that space out of that 12, just out of curiosity. Fun thing to entertain.

Lastly, this game gives you about 55 achievements for roughly an hour’s worth of work. Maybe more, maybe less, depending on how fast you pick up the machinations of this game. Whether or not that’s valuable to you is on you.

Now onto the less-than-great things.

The Not-So-Good

The game doesn’t seem to successfully launch at anything higher than 1080p. Now, this isn’t necessarily the end of the world, it just seems like a bug, one that I could see some people getting hit by, not being able to play the game they hopefully wanted, and then refunding it. Once I downsized my resolution from 1440p to 1080p, the game worked fine.

The hit boxes are actually really not that great; you see this in a couple of other reviews so I’m just a drop in the bucket with this one. More than once will you run into a hurdle that doesn’t actually collide with your model, especially anything near the runner’s head. I’m kind of sold on the idea of your character’s hit box being one big rectangle.

Lastly, while a minor point, this game is pretty bland. The environment doesn’t change, the song loops (and not even that well), the gameplay is incredibly shallow (why the hell do we press space bar to do anything?), and the character you're playing has roughly 8 actual frames of animation in total. People may think this is a moot point for 99 cents, but there are a pretty decent amount of free endless runner games online that generally just seem to be of higher quality.

The End

Alright, that’s the end. This game has some value if you dig the exchange rate of 55 achievements equaling 99 cents for roughly an hour of your time, but there’s probably a more enjoyable deal out there. But overall, the hit box reason alone is enough to make this game frustrating to the point where you may only end up with 54 of your desired 55 achievements.

Oh, and I can’t determine if this is a prequel to the game Yuzi Lims: hentai or not. Hoping the dev can expand on that universe a little more in time.

Boring and uninteresting. Despite the last update, 50k high score is still way to high for an acceptable 100% completion. I mean, this is not the type of game you want to play for long given its limited loop.

Your eyes just hurt as the same background colors keep rolling in front of you. The space bar mechanic is stupid: your hands will hurt as well given the tiny moves you need to make in order to avoid obstacles.

Una verdadera mierda, mal diseñada, mal hecha, todo mal y muy repugnante. El juego debería llamarse COVELIA. Es mas fácil ganarle un duelo de programación a Bill Gates que obtener 50000 puntos en esta inmundicia.

The worst endless runner I’ve ever played. Ever.
In Yuzi Lims: anime runner you play as an anime girl with a hit box that is really bad and too big, leading to frequent failures initially. To get all achievements, you need to get 50,000 points, which is quite a chore to do. The number goes up ever so slowly as you get further, and the main things to boost it are coins (+100) and the spacebar prompt (+500). It takes 10-15 minutes to actually get a run this long, not to mention being plagued by garbage RNG sometimes where you have to be nearly pixel perfect or you’re done for.
Overall an easy hundo but be warned.

And I thought I couldn't run. Cute game, but very cheesy. Good thing Yuzi isn't running for her life. Don't pay full price for this game, but for a cheap laugh yeah. Just don't expect years of fun with this one. 5/10.
