great game, fun survival game i got it as a bday gift one of my favs
since I had this game, it has been a blast playing with friends and family! Finding strategies to survive and make it out alive until the next day is FUN. If you're planning to buy this game and love a good challenge, this game is definitely worth it.
It's a good game but the combat kind of feels awful. Trying to get used to it is making me want to pull my teeth out (i cannot for the life of me press ctrl, wasd and f all at once).
Its very pretty, and just. Overall there's a lot of love poured into it. Even the stuff I dislike for personal reasons (absurd amount of DLC for skins) still had so much effort put into it. I haven't tried all the paid characters (only Wortox thus far) but it all seems pretty fun.
You can absolutely just enjoy this as a solo experience, but it may be more obtuse in some aspects. I plead with you to look towards guides and wiki articles if you ever start feeling frustrated or lost. Some may argue the fun is in figuring stuff out yourself, but that's how you develop bad habits that will hinder you in the future. Of course don't instantly overwhelm yourself with info, just take it day by day. I learn best by experimenting and then looking to documentation to see what I got right/wrong (usually in downtime or after a death). The modding support is also heavily appreciated and people have made amazing things. QoL mods my beloved.
I was recommended this game by a friend and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I heard that the rollback system is exclusive to DST and is not a thing in the original Don't Starve game. It really helped me make a lot of progress as I could just rollback when I die (which is from a lot of things) but even with the rollback system it doesn't make the game any less challenging or fun.
I've only had this game for about a month and it's already infected my brain. I've made new friends because of DST, and I'm so grateful for that.
Still need to learn how to kill a Deerclops, though. My crock pot must be avenged.
game is fun and the customizing is very expressive
This game is soooo good! I really enjoy playing it with my friends. It takes lots of time to explore, but my favorite character is.... still my little spider boy :))
I will never forget the time we spent together playing this game! We help each other a lot :)
Super fun game. you might need to spend 15 minuites with a youtube video to fully understand the game to be able survive. But the tall bird guy is kinda hot tbh.
The goal of Don't Starve Together is to find and fight all ~ 26 boss monsters, a lot of which can be more or less hidden.
Two of these bosses are considered "final bosses" in the sense that killing them is the big accomplishment of two separate journeys with many different steps, one taking you deep in horribly dangerous underground dungeons and one taking you all around the sea.
After each of these 2 bosses, new content is added in the form of new "post game" world modifications that each gives new bosses, new mechanics, new weapons, armor and technologies to use.
I wanted to start by describing that because DST looks deceptively more simple than it truly is when you first take a look a it, when in truth it actually is quite complex, rich and intricate!
In this game, surviving is tough and difficult and requires you to understand a lot of different specific steps, and understand how many resources are tied together.
At first, it feels like learning to stay alive during each of the 4 seasons is the game, and it won't necessarily make you feel like it's super deep because it is actually only the first step. It's supposed to be simple and slow because surviving is just step 1 out of 15. Sure, you can survive without too much trouble in a kind of baren base with not so much stuff at your disposal. But that's not the goal ; it may work, but that crappy base will give you none of the tools you need to accomplish anything!
Because if surviving is step 1 and meant to be simple, learning how to thrive is where the complexity starts.
There are lots of different resources you can take from the world and bring back home, creatures who'se homes you can move, beneficial structures you can acquire, all kinds of things that are meant to saturate you in food, tools, weapons and armors so that you can get out there and explore the world, fight those bosses, make those journeys
But the game never holds your hand through any of it at all. Learning can be really unclear and counter-intuitive (who would think that butterflies are the most basic and most essential source of food early game? No one, at first!) and every step of the way can make you think "is that it?" just because you will fail to see the link between things, or how you are meant to abuse the heck out of them, or how they are just stepping stones towards something bigger.
It's a game that you just won't be able to enjoy if you can't challenge yourself, throw yourself out there, be active, be looking to learn and practice survival techniques and get busy trying to do things on a grander scale, or even just set out specific goals for yourself.
Knowledge is difficult to acquire and everything is very challenging, so there may be a whole of "now what?" moments until you understand what the next steps can be. And if you don't know, you'll likely feel stuck and lost. And you'll become passive, and you'll become bored because you're nowhere near having completed all there is to complete, but you may not understand how and how to learn.
All in all, I recommend this game with all of my heart with the knowledge that it really may not be for anybody, especially if you tend to be too passive or can't bother with putting too much effort into stuff. It's my own favorite survival game out there specifically because it gives survival so much purpose and so many steps, because of how much effort you can put into learning and how rewarding it can be.
There's a lot of ways to achieve the same things. Tons of different knowledge, a bunch of different mechanics that you will likely gloss over for a couple hundred hours until you start using them and start realizing "why have I never bothered doing this awesome thing before" (like taming and riding big cows to become the ultimate war machine)
There's fun in joining random worlds and seeing how you can contribute, fun in starting over and doing things better and quicker or in different order, fun in practicing the same skills because they're tough and it pays to practice, fun in seeing how everyone's lack of knowledge can create so many shenanigans due to lack of preparation, lack of resources, lack of having made enough structures in time, and fun in modding the game and tweaking the little things along the way.
And it's *awesome*.
Its a good game -
and its hard - the game doesnt walk you by your hand.
I hate the music in this. I turn it off and play my own.
Super fun and challenging game, didn't spoil it by looking online for playing guides so still discovering new things and still many unsolved mysteries
The entire game is made up of rookie mistakes. You either save and roll back in case of a mistake, or start from the beginning. Only after watching the guides you can do something there. Without mods the game is unplayable.
The iconic probably one of the hardest survival game, now together! What can be better than starving to death, getting ganged by a pack of wolves for no reason or just watching a kind Deerclops rampaging in your camp. Now you can do it with friends! :D
Spent all day looking for food. Find 3 berries and a morsel things are looking up. Darkness comes but i make it home with my trusty torch. Make meatballs and decide to rest in my tent. Light it on fire and watch my camp burn. 10/10
It is very rare for games to be so polished, and have good visuals. Honestly the devs are hard at work and it shows.
I love watching this game on YT, but not playing it. It's good, just way too complicated for me.
Don't let the game fool you it is HARD but it's a blast especially if you have a dorky friend to play with you.
Cult game that is already a favorite of many but for me playing this game without friends is hard and sad
This game has always been a bit of a struggle for me. Over the years, I've started many games of Don't Starve Together with friends, and during these playthroughs there's been many things I enjoyed, and I can see reasons why people enjoy this game, but every single one of these games eventually ended in disappointment, and I just haven't been able to figure out what it is that allows people to enjoy this game enough to play it for hours on end.
This game provides a familiar survival experience, as you start the game in the middle of a procedurally generated world and must immediately start collecting resources and crafting gear. However, this game is much more punishing than most survival games and you're immediately racing against the clock to make sure you collect things so that you can feed yourself and have enough light to survive the night. Making it past this first night is only the beginning of your troubles though, as you'll face many more challenges, such as managing your sanity, finding renewable sources of food, and surviving the challenges of later seasons, such as the cold of winter or the heat of summer.
The largest problem I encountered while playing this game is that the game doesn't really explain anything. You're thrown into the game with a massive (and somewhat hard to understand) crafting menu and very unintuitive inventory system, and you're expected to figure out what things you need to collect and craft with no prompts from the game. This game is also pretty strange, with many different enemies to fight and items to collect, which makes the game very fun, as it makes discovering new things very exciting, but it also makes the game fairly frustrating, as it's hard to know what you need to do to survive, and exploring or experimenting with things can be pretty punishing, as there's many things that can very rapidly kill you.
This wouldn't necessarily be a problem if it wasn't for the way death works in this game. There are some difficulty options that can be configured to make things easier, but by default, you become a ghost when you die, can only respawn with certain items or objects, and the world will reset if everyone dies and no one respawns within a certain time limit. This means that one unfortunate encounter with a poorly understood enemy can force you to start from scratch, and constant restarts seems to be the intended way to play this game, which I found extremely tedious. Even on easier difficulties, where respawning is much more forgiving and is always available, you can still end up in a state where you're stuck dying at the respawn point over and over because you don't have the necessary items to survive and can't collect them before you perish.
It's worth mentioning that the game is still getting frequent updates, and I think some of the more recent updates have made some progress on making this feel better. The upgrade trees they've been adding for each character are cool, and the compendium they added which has every item and enemy in the game in it makes learning about various things in the game substantially easier. So far this hasn't been able to keep our games from feeling extremely difficult to learn, punishing, and unfair, but hopefully they'll continue to work on making the game easier for beginners and I can one day change this review to a positive one, because I do really want to like this game.
The art style of this game is extremely good, and is very iconic. The game ran very well, and I don't recall running into any major bugs.
TL;DR This survival game has a fantastic art style, runs well, has a unique world which is fun to explore and experiment in, and is still getting updates after many years. However, the game is extremely hard to learn and is very punishing, which makes it often feel very frustrating and unfair. As such, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you're really into survival games, are willing to invest lots of time to learn the game, and are willing to frequently look things up online.
One of my top five games all time, it's just so amazing and the art style is so unique I love it. If you're thinking of buying this game do so, you won't be let down. It's hard yes, but that makes it even more fun and rewarding. Beautiful game.
10/10 – My blood boils with every gameplay, but I still love it and keep coming back for more. It’s like Minecraft, but better—with waaay better graphics!
turned on fullscreen and the game split across both my monitors, could not reach the edit button to change it. basic features like fullscreen should not be broken
some mods dont work :(
hey atleast the base game is good
I had to find out which mods were not good but yeah
Vanilla is still always fun!
Quite confusing at first but enjoyable as you learn to understand it
if you'd ever want a game that is actually hard even when you know what to do, this is the one. Recommend to have a run at the single player version first, Dont Starve, as it gives a great intro to this one.
Funn and scary survival, recommending it with all my heart
It's hard to leave an appropriate review.
Don't Starve Together is a multiplayer sequel to the singleplayer Don't Starve - so it build upon the solid and enjoyable foundation laid by its predecessor. It is also a game that has been regularly updated throughout the years - so there were a lot of good additions and changes made.
Therefore, for a new player looking to put 7-70 hours into a game and maybe play with friends, Don't Starve Together will be a gem of a survival game, albeit a bit difficult to get into due to the game not really holding the player's hand. However to players that get immersed with this world, fall in love with the artstyle, music and the characters, they will find a game that is continuing to grow without much direction.
As someone who loved this franchise since its singleplayer days, I'd say that the past 3 years worth of updates have actively made Don't Starve Together a less enjoyable experience. New stuff gets added but then it is left to rot, rather than being polished and expanded upon.
The foundations laid by the singleplayer offered an uncompromising survival where players had to deal with hostile creatures, weather, lack of resources. Nowadays almost every problem comes in the form of an enemy who you need to kill. There's no variety in content added nowadays - it's all just raid bosses or regular enemies, no environmental or otherwise different types of obstacles to overcome. The developers have also long since strayed away from the 'uncompromising' aspect of the game. There's plenty of items and structures that, for the lack of a better word, just solve problems which otherwise were an integral part of gameplay. For the game called 'Don't Starve Together' it's rather ironic how many food sources and food preservation items have been added throughout the years.
Don't Starve Together is a game with great foundations but the last 3 years of updates have turned it into a bloated mess which the developers struggle to fix as they seem to enjoy adding new content rather than polishing the content already added
Don’t Starve Together is a blast! The quirky art style, fun survival mechanics, and unpredictable world(?) make each playthrough exciting. Playing with friends adds a whole new level of challenge and fun as you team up to survive the wilderness. There’s always something new to discover, and the constant updates keep it fresh. If you love quirky, challenging games, this one’s definitely worth checking out!
You have to set up your settlement, keep yourself alive and sane, plus you get to fight monsters. I don't care for building in games, but this one is a lot of fun to play with friends.
I love this game. I love this franchise.
The art style is beautiful, and the gameplay can be as difficult or as easy as you want it to be. You can customize your world how you like, and there are mod options that improve quality of life. A wide variety of characters are available as well, which can accommodate how you play. It’s slow-paced yet stressful—but only because every second counts. That’s where the difficulty lies: in a slow and steady pressure that builds up over time... unless you’re not a perfectionist.
I love the soundtrack. It’s cute and catchy, and it doesn’t play constantly to the point where it gets annoying. How much you enjoy the game will depend on your playstyle, but it’s exciting to go in blind and discover things on your own. You can always Google stuff later—or whenever you start getting mad, LOL. Resource and time management are key parts of the game, especially early on. So if you like planning ahead and strategizing, you’ll probably enjoy it a lot.
I haven’t experienced any bugs or major issues, so I don’t have many complaints at all. The crafting menu does bother me sometimes—I find it a bit small and cluttered, but it’s not that bad. (For reference, I play on a 15.6” laptop.)
Whether you plan on getting both games or not, I’d suggest starting with this one since you can play solo. I'm a big fan of the original game. Don’t Starve is simpler than Don’t Starve Together, but just for practicality’s sake, I’d still recommend this one—unless you want a really simple and easy experience and don’t plan on playing with friends. I buy all of my games on sale, but after playing this for a while, I can wholeheartedly say it’s worth it at base price.
a TRUE survival game. Its design is not focused on progression or combat; everything you do in this game is to keep yourself from dying. Also, please make boss health scale with the amount of players.
Great little top down survival game if you have friends that are willing to mod it with you
Playing this game you get to do fun activities such as...
- Claiming free daily cosmetics that you can sell on steam marketplace.
- Playing the guessing game on what to mod in to enhance the experience that everyone will enjoy from steam workshop.
- Pissing off giant creatures and bosses such as random trees that will kill you & your friends.
- Collecting cow s.h.i.t. to use for later endeavors, as if your some Amish field worker.
- Building mini bases and hoping you will have enough resources around you to last through winter.
[*]And possibly more.
Wow, I've played 365 hours on this game... That could have been 1 hour for an entire year. And yet, I have not lived long enough in this game to say I have mastered it's survival aspect and all the hostility in this game.
I HATE SUMMER in DST. Even Winter is better.
But if you are an Elden Ring masochist, this 2.5 D game is for you. Get ready to die a lot.
Don't Starve/Don't Starve Together is one of those titles that is so specifically unique that I would pretty much recommend anybody try it out. It's hard, it's punishing, but it's so distinctive and charming that I think most people will have decent fun with it regardless of the frustrating parts (there are many).
This game on sale is a steal I honestly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of rogue-like games and just want a good challenge with a couple of friends I have played 5 hours of the don't starve solo game and I loved it I can't wait to drag a friend into this game and explore the pain of starving together
This game is such a bloody miserable experience, but I love it.
A rather charming little survival game, with a giant world absolutely littered with progression barriers that you know nothing about, there's so much you need to find and craft in order to get to the next step in the journey, materials constantly jump from being abundant to being scarce, and dying is absolutely devastating, roaming for hours trying to find a revival point, or eventually just giving in and starting from scratch for the thousandth time.
What makes DST worth the hassle is the learning curve, like many survival games there's a lot to learn and discover on your own accord - once you surpass the roadblock you initially struggled with, there's a brand new one that stops you in your tracks until you figure it out days later.
Frustrating, be that as it may, but having friends along - hence Don't Starve Together, makes the experience a whole lot more fun, and you ain't putting down much for it; around two bucks for TWO copies on sale, and it can run great on low end hardware save potential overheating.
Definitely recommend this if you don't mind persevering through struggles constantly, that is the name of the survival game after all, and be sure to bring a friend or group of friends along.
This game is brutal. I wished it did a much better job at explaining it's mechanics. After so many deaths I just lose interest lol Not a bad game in any way, just not for me.
This game is a lot of fun and I spend way to many hours on this. Abigail is the best.
Game can be tough to start, but just look at the dont starve together wiki and youll be fine. Do not confuse it with the normal dont starve wiki as there are some differences between games.
It's really fun survival game to play with your friends. Basically what title say. Do not strave together with your friends. Importantly you need to survive and attack like other survival does. Recommeneded!
I have played DST for hundreds of hours on playstation so the current playtime isn't really accurate. The major downside of this game is you will probably need to watch a youtube guide or use the wiki to understand what you need to do. Once you understand though, this game is incredibly fun. There are tons of bosses with unique fighting patterns, seasonal advantages and disadvantages, hunger, sanity, and health to maintain, as well as the option to play solo or with a team. Some characters work really well together and they have their own benefits and downsides as well. I go out of my way to purchase most skin/belongings packs because I love how Klei handles micro transactions and I want to support this type of company as much as possible.
Haven't played much multiplayer, however this is a blast when running solo and the raid bosses are exceptionally rewarding when you defeat them. Uncompromising survival which will continue to challenge you, should you step up to it.
Am bad. Game still good. Strive get better. Very nice.
Don't Starve Together – Survive, Adapt, or Die Trying
Hours Played: 7.4
Don’t Starve Together is a brutal yet rewarding survival game where you and your friends must gather resources, fight off monsters, and endure the elements. The game’s unique art style, deep mechanics, and punishing difficulty make it a must-play for survival fans—but it can be overwhelming for newcomers.
The Good
✅ Beautiful Hand-Drawn Art Style – The dark, Tim Burton-esque visuals are unique and charming.
✅ Challenging & Rewarding Survival – Managing hunger, sanity, and health keeps you on edge.
✅ Tons of Crafting & Exploration – From building bases to fighting ancient creatures, there’s always something to do.
✅ Great Multiplayer Experience – Surviving with friends (or betraying them) adds a fun social element.
✅ Diverse Playable Characters – Each has unique strengths and weaknesses that change how you play.
The Bad
❌ Unforgiving for Beginners – Lack of tutorials makes the learning curve steep.
❌ Death Can Be Punishing – If you die early, it’s easy to feel useless while waiting for revival.
❌ Resource Management Can Feel Stressful – Juggling hunger, sanity, and weather can be overwhelming.
Final Verdict
With 7.4 hours, I’d say Don't Starve Together is an intense and rewarding survival experience that is best played with friends. If you enjoy challenging survival mechanics, cooperative gameplay, and a bit of chaos, this is worth diving into—just be ready to suffer before you thrive.
Rating: 8/10 – Tough but addictive survival fun! 🌿🔥
Game so good, I learned how to mod it (It's pain but fun)
This game is debatably as good as Red Dead Redemption 2 :D
But its in 2D, half the price, and it wont take a supercomputer to play
Survival game with amazing story done incredibly well
It has multiplayer with lots of public servers, I only play private servers with friends. But the game can be played alone
Has videos similar to TF2's "Meet The Team" videos to introduce you to characters and tease some lore which I love ^^
And if you buy the game you get a free copy of it to gift to a friend for free so you can play together which is so frikin cool!
And to me, it has tons upon tons of replayability as long as you don't mind harvesting resources
Its intentionally really difficult, but theres 5 different server playstyles you-
can create a world with, from "Relaxed" all the way to "Lights out" to make it easier/harder
However I recommend playing standard before any other server playstyle
You can also go into a worlds settings to reduce the amount, increase the amount, or completely remove whatever you want from the game. I usually leave it untouched though because I like the normal experience
Additionally you can add server or client-sided mods super easily to remove any features you dislike about the game or add features you would like to have in it (My favorite mods are Geometric Placement and Gesture Wheel since they don't change the game much, But theres plenty more that can change the game alot more if you want)
And lastly, don't google this or you'll get spoilers but there is a hidden message in the title for you to decipher. Good luck :3
Everybody needs to play this game. You can play it alone but with friends it's so much better (together, duh). It's hard to get bored, there's always something to do, plus the game gets regular updates which makes you constantly learn something new <333
This has to be one of my favorite games of all time. It's not without its flaws, but all-in-all an incredible experience.
This game isn't for everyone. Its mechanics are obtuse, poorly explained, and overly punishing. Without external help, you will likely learn the hard way for dozens of deaths before getting the hang of it. If you want a game with proper tutorials and consistent logic, one doesn't punish curiosity as often as it rewards it, you should likely look elsewhere.
If this sounds as fun to you as it is for me, you'll love this game. It's an experience that is challenging as it is rewarding. No other survival game scratches the same itch as DST, gives me the same sense of accomplishment.
This is an awesome game. That's it. The vibes are 10/10, the gameplay 10/10, the puns and odd references 11/10. If you like survival games then you should definitely buy it.
Note on the multiplayer aspect, this game can be played solo and if you find it to hard there is a server mod that will scale the boss HP to a more manageable level.
Lovely graphics and an intense story line with lots of progression. A little frustrating, but you continue to want to play more!
