Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game in a world where defibrillating patients' hearts in sync with their heartbeats has healing properties. Slam your spacebar in perfect time on the 7th beat, and they might just come out okay. But beware - every patient has unique illnesses based on complex music theory: polyrhythms, hemiolas, irregular time signatures...if you don't know what they mean, don't worry. Rhythm Doctor is designed to make you learn music and rhythm theory without even realising it!
- 20+ handmade levels, each with their own story.
- Every level introduces a different concept of rhythm theory in an accessible way
- A large cast of doctors and patients feature in an overarching, character-centric storyline
- Play the story solo or grab a friend for drop-in drop-out local multiplayer throughout the whole campaign!
- Robust level editor to make, share, and play community levels! Use your own music, place notes snapped to the beat, and use 50+ different visual effects and backgrounds
- Challenging "Night Shift" versions of each level for the brave
(Note: 2P mode only works locally. Online 2P via Remote Play is enabled for this game, but it does not work that well right now due to varying latency)
Rhythm Doctor features flashing lights and colors. Please use caution if you have experience with epilepsy or any of its symptoms.

Incredible. Act 2 ending blew my mind.
1,2,3,4,5,6,7 can you count? Then u can play this game. It starts very easy but very quickly increases in difficulty. The songs are superb and the level design especially boss levels is on a different plane. 10/10 Game, absolute perfection and still early access.
press button fun
buy game for fun button pressing
Play This Game. I assure you you won't regret it. (FYI I am not taking any responsibility if you are dissatisfied with it)
The gameplay is very clever. It's a rhythm game that really tests your rhythm. Instead of straight KPS, the game mostly tests your proficiency in tracking rhythms.
Most innovative and fun rhythm game full stop. It's not fully out yet, but wow is this quality all the way through.
Very amazing game that deserves so much more attention.
This game is a really cool spin on the Rhythm game format with banger songs and an interesting story to boot.
fun one button game.
I enjoyed the game/experience I had with Rhythm Doctor and it genuinely blew my mind on how polished for an early access game this is. Each of the levels are fun in their own unique way and I hope to see more in the future. It's mechanics are surprisingly complex for a one-button game and it does have a steep learning curve that the player needs to get over. Overall, Rhythm Doctor is a good game that I highly enjoyed, you may enjoy it too if it looks fun, and the characters/environment along with a level editor make this one of the funnest rhythm games that I've ever played.
I wouldn't suggest to get this game now as it is in early-access. You can easily complete the whole game in around a week or two, so I suggest waiting for the full release even if it may take a while. The community levels are alright, I tried some myself and they aren't bad, but they may not be your cup to tea if you just want a vanilla experience.
If you want a game more based off of listening, pressing specific patterns, and less of sight-seeing, (that's legit just geometry dash) I would not suggest this game for you. It has many flashing lights and distractions to make you feel overwhelmed while playing, but it does make you feel cool if you beat the level.
Everyone who loves rhythm games should try this out. Period.
A Rhythm game that is actually about Rhythm. 11/10 did the last level through my tears best game Rhythm game I've played.
Really fun game, it's very accessible even if someone is not too well versed in rhythm games, the story seems really interesting and even fun, it made me laugh it's fair share of times, obviously it's not yet finished since it's still in early access.
The thing i appreciated most about this game is that even with a very simple concept it countinuously adds depth to the gameplay level after level, even to the point i was stunned due to the surprise i had in some levels
very chalenging 5stars
great gameplay,story and music
Good story, good music, good characters. And, of course, good rhythm. I haven't even touched the MASSIVE amount of custom levels yet! I know I'm going to be returning to this game for a long time.
one of the more fun rhythm games ive played, it's rather noob friendly while still making sure you have the skill/rhythm needed to actually beat the levels instead of brute forcing or spamming your way through. All the characters are super enjoyable and everyone's dynamics are amazing. The story so far is shaping up to be great and I can't wait to see how it continues. The music is also extremely good, I listen to lots of the OST and get it stuck in my head often. The mechanics are introduced very well and it doesn't bomboard you with info right out of the gate, and only brings up stuff you need to know for each level. All in all, extremely fun game that I can't wait to see the next installment of!
one of the best rhythm games tbh i love it
I tend to steer clear of rhythm games usually, despite being a musician, but this is a very unique 1-button rhythm game that is definitely worth it. Rhythm Doctor has a lot going for it. A charming/funny story, great music tracks, and challenging rhythm gameplay that will really force the player to keep time in their head at times, really getting to the core of a rhythm game, keeping the rhythm!
My one complaint comes from a specific mechanic introduced in the tail end of the game, which I feel I need to mention and explain why this feels so incredibly bad both as a musician and as someone who liked everything else in the game up until that mechanic was introduced and forced: the "freeze" mechanic.
The freeze mechanic, as far as I can tell, doesn't really have an equivalent in music. As the beat is frozen for however long, .2, .5, 1 second, it doesn't matter, the rhythm is fully shifted forward that length of time. While that's easy enough to understand how it works, this is a game about rhythm, and I as soon as this mechanic is introduced it is no longer about rhythm at all, it's about timing. Match the freeze length and add that to your normal beat and you'll hit the beat, but miss it and the beat has to be re-acquired because you're suddenly VERY off beat.
This all combines to make for a pretty unfun mechanic, perhaps especially so for a musician, but I suspect few players like this mechanic that much. It detracts from what the rest of the game is, keeping perfect time. Split my brain in 4 different directions and make me keep track of each beat? Fine, no problem, that's a natural continuation of the gameplay. The freeze mechanic, however, is not.
Still would recommend this game. It's very fun, and that mechanic doesn't detract too much from the game since it's only at the very end.
I'm bad at the game so that means it's good
Incredible music
rhythm docter is a very fun game
1.gameplay is fun and simple to learn but hard to master
2.music is very very good, boss 3 is my fave
3 the steam comunity made songs are prob good i only played a few though
have not played in a bit cant wait for act 5
Music scratches my brain.
Had a great time with this gem. Every new mechanic introduced is explained very well. You can tell how much love and care has gone into this amazing game- speaking of which, don't forget about the night levels! They're probably the best part of the game, despite being optional. There are a few "meh" levels that are clearly just placeholders for later refinement, hence the game still being early access. But don't let that hold you back from giving it a spin, since what's already here is staggeringly awesome.
if this game were real music majors could finally make a decent living
Wow, this game is AMAZING. Excellent music and shockingly clever execution on a deceptively simple idea.
Awesome game
- A lot (if not all) of the songs are good
- Love the crazy different mechanics
- Its got a simple and sweet story
For anyone slightly interested in rhythm games, this game should be near the top of your list.
Amazing game.
Art: 10/10
It's not a soulless art and there's a lot of attention to small details.
Story: 7/10
It's a little niche and has a lot of excessive fluff moments, but it's still enjoyable.
Gameplay: 10/10
Amazing mechanics, amazing levels.
Really fun, really cute game that gets surprisingly difficult later on. Great OST, which is important for a rhythm game. I love Nicole
Great game! As a rhythm game enjoyer I'm always on the hunt for something new to play and this was so much fun. The instructions are easy to understand, but the game itself is challenging in the best way. The characters are so cool and I can't wait for the full game to come out. I would totally recommend this to anyone who likes rhythm games and is looking for something new. 10/10 from me!
Im not evening gonna joke that this is one of the most creative a nd fun to play ryhtm games in the whole world. Im serious when i say that this game is an absolute gem. The production quality is insane, i just started playing and have never been more greatful for a purchase in my life. In one of the boss levels your game starts "glitching" and i swear to god the game handled it in such a creative way i almost like geniualy cried tears of happiness. This game is incredible definetly would recommend.
Most rhythm games through you straight into the deep end, with either no or minimum tutorials. As somebody who's always wanted to get into them, but never had the chance cause of no way to learn, I highly recommend Rhythm Doctor! It actually takes the effort to teach you! Also, most rhythm games lack story. Rhythm Doctor is quite the opposite, being filled with story and character development!
Very good rhythm based game. The story presents a new viewpoint of rhythm gaming with the best amount of creativity. Perfect for relaxing, playing a chill game, or raging on the harder levels. 10/10, I would FULLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME to other players.
I absolutely suck at this game but the good thing is that it doesn't just fail you midlevel, you just get a low score and can try again later. Its cool, I also like how the sprites can be customized.
The most fun game ive played so far
It has so much replay value, and the game isnt even finished yet so you know its gonna keep being a banger
Also the game music is so good, me and my friends always listen to the ost
def play this game if you're looking for a fun game
The music in this game is so amazing and the levels fit perfect. They even have a credits LEVEL. THE CREDITS ARE A LEVEL.
A must-play in the genre of games that irreversibly change your perceptions of single digit numbers.
wonderful game
has taken 50.7 hours away from my life
the game is super good tho, i'm not complaining :3
can't wait until Act 6 comes out!
i also hope you guys take on MULTI WINDOWS! Because everyone deserves to suffer in some special way/positive
Very fun game, a much stronger focus on rhythm over melody than other ones I've played. Big fan, and TaroNuke's trademark glitz and glam shows on several stages.
I have never written steam reviews but I felt this game was deserving. I loved the different characters and while some cut scenes were long when I just wanted to play the rhythm aspect of the game, I thought it was still super fun. I don't love rhythm games but this one won me over with the amazing soundtrack and adorable pixelated visuals. I literally couldn't get some of the songs out my head even while I was off the game >w< The 3-2-1 voice in the game reminded me of my piano lessons when I was younger so it was both nostalgic and had a healthy amount of stressful haha. 10/10 so worth it to buy!
me when im in an underrated game competition and my opponent is rhythm doctor
(SERIOUSLY. PLAY THIS GAME. IT IS SO GOOOOOOOOD.)
I love this game to bits. The music is great and provides a great challenge.
That being said. Fuck 5:2 polyrhythms. The polyrhythm minigame is harder than any of the levels in the game but it felt so good to finish it, even with only a C+ grade.
These devs have put so much hard work in and it shows.
Jesus Christ this game fucks HARD.
I've barely played any rhythm games, but this one just clicks with me. Its simple but challenging, i suck tho!
also the act 5 boss track is A FUCKING BANGER!!!!!!! Easily my favorite level of the game currently (AND GOD IS IT HARD AS FUCK.)
its still in early access tho so that may be topped by a future level.
10/10 PLAY IT, as for me i'm gonna continue playing this damn game.
amazing game even for people who don't play rhythm games. The story is great and the gameplay is a perfect mix of fun and difficult
i bought this after i played the flash demo version of it on flashpoint.
this is my 2nd favourite rhythm game.
the window movement is amazing
the songs are even more amazing
the story is amazing.
seems like a lot of stuff can be done with 1 or 2 buttons.
You ever look at a rhythm game and think "Hey this looks cool, but why is it judging me on my aim or ability to read and memorise a billion notes per second"?
You ever look at a rhythm game and think "Ok but where's the rhythm part, this is just press buttons with unrelated music in the background"?
Here's Beans Hopper Rhythm Doctor - THE rhythm game, which teaches you actual music theory through it's mechanics, which I didn't even realise until recently. One button, the good old spacebar, is all you need, and the devs have done an amazing job making each act feel fresh while never deviating from this requirement. No arrows, no dfjk, no mouse, just tap one button when the beat gets to the end, but the amount of mechanics on show are more than enough to keep the gameplay engaging, but not overwhelming. If you have good internal rhythm you can easily beat most stages first try, but that's a good thing, it's not meant to be a challenge with "impossibly crazy" as a difficulty option with nightmare sight reading, it's meant to be fun and rhythmically accurate.
But the game does even more than just a well done concept, it's presentation and story isn't to be ignored, the characters are simple but all have an endearing story to tell, but nothing overbearing and lore filled, just enough to make you want to lend a hand as the simple intern you are. Each act having it's own style and vibe gives them a unique feel, and the jumps from scenery in the hospital to psychedelic swirls and beams never feels out of place as it's what each act is based around. However I can't mention presentation without acknowledging the most well known aspect of the game that I won't talk about in specifics for those who still don't know. I'm well aware the concept has been used in games previously, but as far as my range is concerned, not to this degree, it's truly impressive how they not only could make it musically synced, but also use it to elevate the stories being told.
Of course, there would be no rhythm game review without talking about the music, which is as easy 10/10 across the board, every song is a head bopper whether they are chill and lo-fi, or high energy. Instrumentals set up and lead the vibe of each act super well, and the vocal tracks are just the perfect piece on top, pun filled, heartstrings pulling, super well done.
Highly recommend to any rhythm game enjoyer, and to anyone just wanting something fresh and unique, especially if you want to be introduced to rhythm games as a whole this is a great place to start.
rhythm doctor might look super cute but it is indeed rather challenging (more than i expected) and incredibly fun!!! highly recommended, especially for music nerds.
i love this game its my number one next to every rhythm heaven game
fav steam game of all time 100% worth the purchase
RHYTHM GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pros:
Cool pixel graphics
Banger soundtrack
Surprisingly emotional story
Hard levels that mentally tortured me
Made me better at playing drums
Cons: Took me like 2.5 hours to beat
10/10
One of the best games I've ever played, just a simple premise made into a masterpiece.
This game is great! One of the most accessible rhythm games I've ever played, coming from someone with arthritis.
If you can get past a few unfinished mechanics, as it is still in development, I highly recommend!
Very excited to see what comes next for this game.
Easily the most fun I've had in a rhythm game to date. Being a one button game doesn't detract from the depth its able to go into. New mechanics keep each level fresh and ample challenge is provided in side levels. Can't wait to see what's in store once the game fully releases!
