Very good rhythm based game. The story presents a new viewpoint of rhythm gaming with the best amount of creativity. Perfect for relaxing, playing a chill game, or raging on the harder levels. 10/10, I would FULLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME to other players.

I absolutely suck at this game but the good thing is that it doesn't just fail you midlevel, you just get a low score and can try again later. Its cool, I also like how the sprites can be customized.

Very fun game, a much stronger focus on rhythm over melody than other ones I've played. Big fan, and TaroNuke's trademark glitz and glam shows on several stages.

I have never written steam reviews but I felt this game was deserving. I loved the different characters and while some cut scenes were long when I just wanted to play the rhythm aspect of the game, I thought it was still super fun. I don't love rhythm games but this one won me over with the amazing soundtrack and adorable pixelated visuals. I literally couldn't get some of the songs out my head even while I was off the game >w< The 3-2-1 voice in the game reminded me of my piano lessons when I was younger so it was both nostalgic and had a healthy amount of stressful haha. 10/10 so worth it to buy!

I love this game to bits. The music is great and provides a great challenge.

That being said. Fuck 5:2 polyrhythms. The polyrhythm minigame is harder than any of the levels in the game but it felt so good to finish it, even with only a C+ grade.

These devs have put so much hard work in and it shows.

I've barely played any rhythm games, but this one just clicks with me. Its simple but challenging, i suck tho!
also the act 5 boss track is A FUCKING BANGER!!!!!!! Easily my favorite level of the game currently (AND GOD IS IT HARD AS FUCK.)

its still in early access tho so that may be topped by a future level.

i bought this after i played the flash demo version of it on flashpoint.
this is my 2nd favourite rhythm game.
the window movement is amazing
the songs are even more amazing
the story is amazing.
seems like a lot of stuff can be done with 1 or 2 buttons.

You ever look at a rhythm game and think "Hey this looks cool, but why is it judging me on my aim or ability to read and memorise a billion notes per second"?

You ever look at a rhythm game and think "Ok but where's the rhythm part, this is just press buttons with unrelated music in the background"?

Here's Beans Hopper Rhythm Doctor - THE rhythm game, which teaches you actual music theory through it's mechanics, which I didn't even realise until recently. One button, the good old spacebar, is all you need, and the devs have done an amazing job making each act feel fresh while never deviating from this requirement. No arrows, no dfjk, no mouse, just tap one button when the beat gets to the end, but the amount of mechanics on show are more than enough to keep the gameplay engaging, but not overwhelming. If you have good internal rhythm you can easily beat most stages first try, but that's a good thing, it's not meant to be a challenge with "impossibly crazy" as a difficulty option with nightmare sight reading, it's meant to be fun and rhythmically accurate.

But the game does even more than just a well done concept, it's presentation and story isn't to be ignored, the characters are simple but all have an endearing story to tell, but nothing overbearing and lore filled, just enough to make you want to lend a hand as the simple intern you are. Each act having it's own style and vibe gives them a unique feel, and the jumps from scenery in the hospital to psychedelic swirls and beams never feels out of place as it's what each act is based around. However I can't mention presentation without acknowledging the most well known aspect of the game that I won't talk about in specifics for those who still don't know. I'm well aware the concept has been used in games previously, but as far as my range is concerned, not to this degree, it's truly impressive how they not only could make it musically synced, but also use it to elevate the stories being told.

Of course, there would be no rhythm game review without talking about the music, which is as easy 10/10 across the board, every song is a head bopper whether they are chill and lo-fi, or high energy. Instrumentals set up and lead the vibe of each act super well, and the vocal tracks are just the perfect piece on top, pun filled, heartstrings pulling, super well done.

Highly recommend to any rhythm game enjoyer, and to anyone just wanting something fresh and unique, especially if you want to be introduced to rhythm games as a whole this is a great place to start.

rhythm doctor might look super cute but it is indeed rather challenging (more than i expected) and incredibly fun!!! highly recommended, especially for music nerds.

This game is great! One of the most accessible rhythm games I've ever played, coming from someone with arthritis.

If you can get past a few unfinished mechanics, as it is still in development, I highly recommend!

Easily the most fun I've had in a rhythm game to date. Being a one button game doesn't detract from the depth its able to go into. New mechanics keep each level fresh and ample challenge is provided in side levels. Can't wait to see what's in store once the game fully releases!

This is easily the best rhythm game I have ever played.

The concepts introduced in this game, more than any other I've played, encourage the player to genuinely interact with the music and gain a grasp of the rhythm. I think in games like guitar hero, osu, beatsaber, etc. While they are incredibly fun and vibe with the music, the visual elements can get in the way of someone really grasping the rhythm of a song. If you just time the button presses to the visual indicators on a screen, are you really interacting with the music? or just listening to it?
Beat Doctor combines that excellent concept and wraps it in one of the best thematic experiences for a rhythm game I've seen, in such little dialogue the game is able to convey each character truthfully and give them their own personality, usually with just a couple lines of dialogue and musical motifs.
Regardless of if my rambling makes sense or not, I can also say Beat Doctor is just one of the most fun games I've played in a while.
I can hardly think of a game more deserving of its asking price.

Extremely fun and satisfying one button rhythm game

I wish there was a middling review option because this game has so many good things but at the same time so many little things that annoy me. The ideas behind the levels and the characters are really fun and cool and the music for the levels is amazing, However, so many QOL problems
1. Tutorials have to be manually skipped every time you want to go back and try a level
2. The calibration menu might be one of the worst out of all rhythm games I've played often making me question if it was the game or me that missed a note, which is something that never feels good to wonder
3. The menu navigation while novel is often just weird and confusing (this might be personal preference but an actual songs list would be really nice)
4. No keys are rebindable which mostly is not a problem but I would really prefer to navigate with WASD and play with arrow keys
5. The number of levels really leaves something to be desired, yes the game supports custom levels but considering most levels are set up as practice for the later levels that expand on ideas introduced, the game feels extremely thin mechanics wise

This game is absolutely amazing, even for a smaller title, it's packed full of fun and nice songs. The only down side is how it's early access, but if that's bad thing for you just wait for a sale. (9-10 stars)

love this game, it's a rhythm game that was clearly made by massive music nerds and really gets to the core of rhythmic principles to the point where i'd argue it can genuinely be used as rhythm training for musicians.

Short game, but every second, every level, is filled with love and passion. Three years after playing it, I still remember the characters.

as someone who enjoys a good rhythm game, this is by far one of the BEST ones ive ever played, the music is SO good! i slept on this one so hard, for so long, and finally picked it up recently. absolutely blew me away. whether youre in it for the awesome music, or the wonderful story, theres a lot to love about this game! PLAY IT!

This game is the best rhythm game iv'e ever played. Please add an achievement for going through a level perfecting everyone else or at least doing well while completely ignoring Richard Hue. I really want a "screw you hue" achievement. Also it would be amazing if you allow people to create custom wards. So people could create complete storylines. That might make this game almost as popular as FNF. With youtubers being able to make videos on custom storylines. Because one moded level isn't enough content to make a video on, after you get through the base game. with the only thing stopping popularity growth after that is the fact that this isn't free. But this shouldn't be free its way too good for that. I'm tired of needing to press arrows and not even relying on my internal clock and only the visuals and playing levels so fast that my fingers hurt. This game makes you rely on a true sense of rhythm. And is super challenging without needing you to hit tens of buttons in a second.

It's a fun little one button game that is easy to pick up but hard to master. Plus, the music is really good.

Absolute banger. The game constantly introduces new mechanics and there are plenty of levels and custom levels. Definitely one of the best rhythm games I have played, if not the best. I have loved all the levels, especially trying to perfect the night mode levels. The gameplay never stops.

By far one of my favorite rhythm games takes a simple 1 key rhythm game and adds a bunch of gimmicks to try to remove you from the beat
All of the music is amazing and reading the stories on development of the tracks (If you look on the youtube videos)
I've started playing it almost once a week with a regular loop of tracks I'll play absolutely amazing

As a long-time rhythm game player, I have to admit that I'm not very good at this particular type of rhythm game. I struggled most of the time, and from my personal experience, it took me significantly more attempts to improve compared to other types of rhythm games.

However, the boss stages were so impactful that they truly felt like masterpieces in terms of their presentation.

They also did an amazing job with "Worn Out Tapes" from the UNBEATABLE collaboration. This map was a blast to play, and the in-game sound effects provided such a unique experience that I really felt something was missing when I was just listening to the track.

This was a wonderful and delightful game! I loved seeing all the ways they played with the relativly simple mechanic of just pushing a button, and the songs are such ear worms! The boss song of act five was amazing, the pixel art and energy truly put it over the top! I can't recommend the game enough for fan of rhythm games! This was so much fun to play through and I'm so happy I got the chance to enjoy it!

The most unique rhythm game I've ever played. A bit reminiscent of the old Rhythm Heaven games on the Nintendo DS. Highly recommend to anyone who likes rhythm games. The things this game does with it's mechanics are nothing short of amazing.

It's fun. Though maybe not exciting enough to keep me playing for more than a couple hours. I've never been into rhythm games that much.

The vfx are cool, pixel art is just OK.

i really like the custom level editor. while you cant publish ANY level you want (due to artist permission and stuff) the verified artist list covers some great composers that im sure most people can get behind. also theres a cool campaign or something? gd cologne.

Starting this by saying I've been following this game through development since 2017; the concept is really cool! It mashes an EKG style heart monitor into a rhythm game. Rhythm Doctor also tests your internal clock by smearing distractions all over the screen. and I mean a LOT of distractions. Gotta rely on audio cues for this one, which can be a fun challenge!

RD would be a 4 star for me if the single beat cues were consistent. I've played a good amount of rhythm games, and while the patterns in RD are really fun, the single beats in between just kill me. I'm either trying my hardest to ignore the cues or just guessing where the single beat goes. It's crazy to me that I can get a better rank by not paying attention and autopiloting vs. trying my best to match the cues, but I digress. The single cues may be frustrating, but the rest of the cues are really cool! My favorite are the SVT beats and the swing beats, they feel so natural to do.

Most of the song selection is Lo-fi. It creates a super vibin atmosphere that counter-acts the distractions for a unique experience. I love the simple story too, I'm glad there is one at all. The pixel art is lovely too. There's no doubt that the devs put tons of love and care into this game over its extremely long development.

I'm almost through world 5 but I'm unsure if I'll finish RD. Blast beats and freeze beats are easy, don't get me wrong, it's the funky single beats in the middle that screw me over. Despite my personal struggles, If you really love rhythm games (especially indie ones) I highly recommend Rhythm Doctor! It's got a chill vibe that can't be beat.

P.S. Since writing this last year, I've beaten world 5 and finished the campaign, but the achievement glitched for me :(

The definition of "Simple concept, flawless execution." Just a stunning achievement.

I originally bought this game because I am bad at rhythm games with multiple buttons and I wanted to prove to myself that I am, indeed, good with rhythm. I got a lot more out of this game. With the amount of mechanics in this game, you would expect it to be hard to learn, but the way everything is slowly introduced and used makes it an easy and pleasant experience. Not to say the game is easy - it can be quite challenging at times, especially during boss levels. Despite their difficulty, I found these levels to be the most fun. Additionally, there is just the right amount of story for a game of this type to keep me interested and invested but to not take away from the gameplay. Overall, this is one of my favorite games, I just wish more cutscenes were skippable because it can get frustrating while trying for an S+ rank.

Let me start off by saying that I am a HUGE fan of A Dance of Fire and Ice. I'd been eyeing this game for awhile, but was hesitant because I was unsure if I would adjust well to the change of mechanics. Turns out I had no issues adjusting at all. I absolutely love this game, just as much as ADOFAI, and I love replaying all of the levels. Just a really well done game, overall. If you enjoy rhythm games, you need to give this one a shot.

Honestly, such a good game, excellent writing, great music, art, and all the game-play is really fun. but personally the star of the show for me is the level editor which is so powerful and extremely easy to use, I recommend for anyone who loves rhythm games or even just creatives who love music of any kind.
