A fun and atmospheric game with unique mechanics. The game is quite short and the story as simple as it is is quite enjoyable. For the low price it is being sold for it is well worth buying.
You are an alien probe that propels itself in the weirdest coolest way. The constant screen cross hairs can't be removed and the back story is beyond worthless and confusing.
What a beautiful game.
A+ on all aspects.
- Pure Creativity
- simple but fun game mechanics
- Familiar yet ephemeral in concept
An incredible game, beautiful and with a sense of peaceful, yet exhalirating experience that will remind you of Journey. Absolute experience!
Beautiful game. If you ever had one of those flying dreams, this is the game reminescent of such experience.
It's a semi open world roller/flyer, however you are guided towards your next objective to progress the story.
I understand that many people see this as more of a simulation than a game... but I really enjoyed my experience with it. It was surreal, evocative, otherwordly. It doesn't matter if it doesn't fit our expectations of what games should be.
If you like space and landscapes + want to kick your feet back and relax a bit, this is it.
Great game. You basically roll, jump, skip or fly the ball to the exit. It's very fun to control, and the game eases you into the different skills you'll need. It was enjoyable to experience all of the different planets, and they look great too. It took me just under three hours to complete, but it's a lot shorter once you get good, and you know where you're going. There's nothing else quite like this out there.
Gonna be super for real, the game just wasn't my cup of tea. I'm giving it a recommend because it wasn't 'unplayable' and I do think this game has an audience that would really appreciate it. I don't think it deserves a 'thumbs down.' It just didn't turn out to be nearly as cool as I thought it would be.
Was it visually beautiful with unique landscapes and attention to detail? Yep. Was the music engaging, and did it fit the tone? Yep. Were the sound effects decent? Yep. Was it riddled with bugs? Nah.
It just... got old really fast. It was kind of a fun and unique control scheme at first, but you can only roll and glide around for so long before you're like, ok, I get it. Ten bazillion miles to the end of the stage.
Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not one of those people who have no patience for games that require the 'long haul' mentality. Playing games like Ship Graveyard Simulator 2, American Truck Simulator, Farming Simulator 22, and other games which require endless amounts of work, I'm no stranger to the 'huge project' games. But at least there's stuff going on. In this game, you're rolling and gliding for like a billion miles, sometimes in truly frustrating conditions, you beat the level, you see a few flashbacks of some story that who knows what tf, and then you're on to the next.
Again, it was not TERRIBLE. It is kinda fun. And especially when I started each new level, each new level was fun for a bit while I felt out the new terrain. And then, once again, I quickly found myself just wanting to get to the end.
It's not so much a 'game' as an 'experience.' Truly.
Again, I do think this will have an audience of people who will thoroughly enjoy it. The visuals are absolutely beautiful, and it was very atmospheric (so to speak, haha, given that it all centers around a story involving my favorite planet, Jupiter). I do think some people will enjoy the rolling and gliding and so on. It's just that for me, with nothing else going on, it just got old pretty fast.
That being said, it took me only 2 or 3 hours (I got the <180 minutes achievement, so I guess under 3) to beat it. So it's not so boring that I gave up before finishing.
I do encourage you, if you're interested, to watch a little YouTube on it first to see if you might like it. Maybe you are the type who would really enjoy it - it's not buggy, it's not poorly put together, it's not sloppy at all. It's Earl Gray, and I'm more of a Green type of person.
Is it worth full price? I don't think so. For as beautiful as it is, there are going to be people like me who just don't think it's super amazing, so over $15 is a stretch. I bought it on sale for like $5 and I'm glad that's the price I paid, because that's about the most it's worth to someone like me. If you haven't watched a little gameplay to make sure it looks good, I would also suggest wishlisting it and waiting for a sale, as I've seen it go on sale a few times now. If you're like me, you'll be happy you paid less; if you turn out to love the game, you'll feel like you got a steal of a price. Either way, you win.
So again - not my style, but not 'terrible' such that i feel it deserves a thumbs down. So, overall, a recommend, if you can catch a sale.
Very relaxing game, especially with controller as u can just lay back no keyboard or mouse and relax, chill game. Clear your mind out when playing since there's not much thinking to do and really just cleanses my soul
Great game for when you just want to escape Earth and don't want to farm or fight. The mechanics are fun to figure out and experiment with. The graphics were so pretty, I'm not sure I blinked on my first play-through.
I... I really don't know what to even call this... Its a mix between weird and satisfying, it has a story but I was just as lost as I was back when I watched interstellar, is a WTF but WOW feeling at the same time.
10/10 this is not a game, this is an experience.
Not very interesting unfortunately.
The main moving mechanic felt ok, but also felt like it left a lot to be desired.
After an hour, I was bored with the flying and wanted something more.
The story was... there, but it did not click with me at all.
The music was nice and calming at least.
5/10 - Buy on sale if you really wanna play it
- Visuals: 9/10. Lots of cool space vistas.
- Gameplay: 6.5/10. I'm into flight and space simulators, but the feel for this craft didn't quite manage to grab me. It's not fast and arcadey, but neither is it deep and interesting. It gets a bit faster towards the end, but on the whole it's quite tedious. The "cinematic" camera at moments doesn't help.
- Story: 4/10. It pretty straightforward, but it's chopped up into tiny pieces of exposition (one-two lines) you get between missions and in some spots, and walls of technical text you won't be quick enough to read. And the ending basically skips from rising action to resolution leaving only questions behind.
- Audio: 4/10. The ambient music is inoffensive, the sound effects are decent. But the decision to "voice" those exposition lines using garbled not-actually-speech is annoying as hell. I'd rather have text-to-speach or literally silence than this.
Overall: Two hours of staring at cool space pictures, with just enough gameplay you don't fall asleep, and a mangled story that's not actually worth piecing together. Okay to buy with a deep discount, I guess.
The movement ranges from excellent to clunky but it's usually really good. It feels bad to lose all you momentum (skill issue) and it can be difficult to gain momentum again one you make a mistake, it depends what planet you're on and what area you're in (design issue).
The camera is horrible: unless you're going fast (while in an atmosphere), the camera is insanely close so the exo is in your face or off screen and you can't look where you want to (this is still the case while going fast it's just not really an issue).
The narrative is incomprehensible but I was on the verge of tears during the ending, make of that what you will.
Feels a bit like a tech demo, but it is somewhat meditative and is a quick play through. On sale, it's a no-brainer for a fun traversal game with a reasonably interesting but minimal story.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. All the backrounds are locked to 70 fps so if you play this game at any other framerate the entire backround stutters. I can,t believe they just updated this game after so long and didnt even fix that issue. Absolutely r3tardead. Only reason i care is because this could have been a great game. Fail. Will change my review if it is ever fixed.
Great fun game, but the level Sojournus ruins it entirley, ridicoulous waste of potential.
Very fun movement, not too complicated either. Play if you have 3 consecutive hours on your hands and some solitude. Also easy replayability, good choice for killing some time. If youre a fan of space and sci-fi you will definitely enjoy the simple story as well. Made me tear up a lil bit.
What a journey, what an experience. It's such a stunning game I enjoyed every last bit of it. The enviroments are so cool, the music is beautiful and the gameplay really fun. 10/10
Lovely game, fantastic vibe and surprising story delivery.
It's not much of a game, sort of an interactive, kinetic art piece. It feels really good to play, and I personally am a fan of the vast, lonely worlds. It's fun and relaxing. It won't pump your brain full of dopamine.
But it's not worth $17. The experience is really cool, but I got it on sale.
The real "Marble Madness" spiritual successor.
This game was a huge surprise. The gameplay, the visuals and even the story, they all complement each other and deliver a truly memorable experience.
It's one of those games like Journey or Abzu, where you're just pretty much traversing a world on your own, but this has a really satisfying physics-based mechanic and some of the most beautiful exo-planet landscapes I've seen. I won't spoil much, but this is definitely one of my favorite games.
Back when the demo was up, i played the demo level (which is the first level) for a few hours.
I really really love the movement for this game and becoming a fast ball on a big alien planet.
But following maps became not only less interesting, but also graphically worse looking, tedious and buggy.
I constantly fell through the ground below the map, vegetation looked ugly as hell, movement wasnt as fun and interesting due to a lot of environmental stopping power and overall i wished the game was using its movement and control idea, for a different game.
I dont care for the story here, less for the mystery behind.
I wished it had a larger map or even be open world on a huge alien planet with different biomes, maybe have me visit locations to scan and basically explore the entire planet and its anomalies, but overall leave me the freedom of movement the entire time.
There are cool worlds beyond level 1 ofcourse, but overall the few following after were tedious, small, blant and ugly as hell.
Bad textures on highest graphical settings.
When i reached the first level with vegetation and got stuck 2 times and falling through the map 3 times, only to then throw me into a weird story sequence where i had to move a big, slow ball with bad camera movement over bad terrain, where i got stuck, then i quit.
I hope that the dev picked up the idea, placed it into an open world area, maybe allowed to coop and then let people explore, be fast, maybe race and dodge environmental hazards and make story bits optional and collectable.
This however, isnt it, i dont like where its going and while i enjoy rolling the ball around real lot and could waste hours doing this alone, i feel like it was becoming too much of a backseat role of having to collect beacons to return to a gauss cannon swooping me to the next world, instead of actually going fast, exploring a world and find out interesting locations.
You get a glimpse of that, but too less and its constantly interupted by uninteresting story stuff i dont care about.
Dont get me wrong. Im typically really interested in anything science, but this didnt catch me, it just distracted me.
Exo one is a prime example of a game that shouldnt put story too much into your face but rather have it take a background role you can interact with if you wish so.
In Short:
Love the movement, idea and presentation.
Hated the framework and interuptions.
It is a short game but still fun to play through. Very casual, relaxing and beautiful. The maps are simple yet functional for this style of game. I wish there were more worlds to explore to extend the playtime. When the game goes on sale at a good price, I'd say it is worth picking up.
this is easily one of the coolest games i've ever played! there's a simple mechanic for flight that is fun to figure out and even more fun to master. i'm going to enjoy going after the achievements.
This game has confused me. Not because it's hard work or anything, but for the lack of things to do.
Now usually this sort of game would last me a couple of hours.
However, this game is just... Relaxing. I'm gonna enjoy this
Great little game
Repetitive and ultimately boring. For a 'traversal' game I felt the movement was janky and restrictive. Hard pass.
Really cool game mechanics. Very chill and fun without being too challenging. Interesting story too. Loved it!
It's not just a game, it is an experience. I mean it in the best way possible. You can get truly immersed in being on alien worlds...
Never thought a game where there are frequent Jupiter jump scares would be this beautiful. It reminded me of games i used to play as a kid with enough to feel fresh even if what you're playing as is a just a ball
Pretty, but not very engaging. I kept nodding off during play. Felt more like a tech demo than a game.
this was just about the best way I can imagine to spend a few hours lightly stoned on the couch. the pure euphoria of ramping perfectly into a sonic boom is unmatched, the environments are drop-dead gorgeous, and it doesn't overstay its welcome one bit. a sublime little game
Pretty much one of those "let the stoner feel like they're participating" games, but in a good way.
This game is so beautiful. You gotta invest especially if its on sale. Live laugh exo
Fantastic game. Imaginative, artistic, challenging, non-combat, emotive. All the features in a game that I've been waiting for for so long. I love the escapism of the alien worlds, space, black holes, planets of water, planets of gas, asteroids. Played at your own pace, at times it becomes zen like, with intimidating monolithic structures, and yet always with a sense of power within oneself to move, navigate, play, explore. Totally enthralling.
Bought on sale for 5€
10/10 for that price.
Very simple and cool thing!
If you are dreaming of flight and / or space, I 100% recommend it.
Game is twice as short as it could be IMO.
I would defenetely buy more planets if that was possible.
Wow I'm surprised I never reviewed this game.
So when I bought this game I was looking for games I could play with 1 hand. I had just broken the ring finger on my left hand, had surgery, and the finger was affixed with Kwires. Basically stainless steel wires drilled through the hand/bone to keep things motionless for a few weeks. I had no use of WADS keys.
I can't remember if I had to use a 3d party utility to map things from my thrustmaster t-16000 flight stick to play this game properly, but I just remember it working. While I couldn't play my normal games, playing through Exo was a good fix for the time, I felt a lot better that the simplicity of the controls lent itself to someone like me who at the time, only had 1 hand to play with.
The visuals are quite good, the game itself has you asking extensional questions about the glowing ball of energy that is your avatar. What are you? Are you the projection of someone? Their actual thoughts? Are you abandoned?
The game itself is relatively short, I think I completed it in a few hours, but it was fun. Would reccomend.
very great game, very chill, can be trippy if you have something to vape
Beautiful game and good story, but I wish it had more mechanics
First playthrough impressions: Wow, what a neat, zen-like and relaxing, atmospheric game! The story is interesting and the unique movement mechanics give a very "easy to learn, hard to master" kind of vibe. No damage, no death, just exploration, wonderful art, and good vibes!
Second playthrough impressions: This is a racing game disguised as all of the above.
I really love the atmosphere in this game
Worst $17 ever spent, even COD skins give more value for money than this (which is a crazy thing to say, ik). It's one interesting gameplay mechanic overused for 2-3hrs. The game should've been 1/3 the price and 1/3 the time because there's nothing to do except repeat the same thing on different skinned planets.
1. Optimisation is horrible, especially since there is barely any content... they still didn't bother to optimise the little there is.
2. The flying ball gets boring after a few minutes and then all you have is vague flashes of public domain images from NASA and a lazy VAGUE story delivered in form of text dialogues with random slowed down vocals for SFX. Somehow the story is supposed to be about some Jupiter Astronaut yet there is nothing resembling even a fraction of good storytelling here. It really frustrates me, there is no hook, no reason to care about any of the mumbling text dialogues, no reason to why I'm driving a shape-changing Alien ball ship.
3. I did enjoy the Space Level with comets and the Black Hole segment in the end, these were great ideas yet only a small fraction of the experience. The game never really utilised it's mechanic in an interesting way. Poor Execution overall.
This would be a great game if it was free, this would be a sub-par game if it was $5 but dude... This is probably greedier than Ubislop and EA, which is insane coming from an indie studio. I honestly don't know how people aren't mad about this gimmicky game.
Can't say enough about this game. This game has been my release for many many months.
to the developer: great game, got lost in it, story could be less ambigous, next time take the time to flesh it out, i dont care if you're a one man indie, spend the money and make a great product, in the end its either a good game all the way....or you fall short, visually, you developed this very well, fantastic lightning and the physics was perfection, i really felt like i was in control, heres one thing i liked that i hope you never do and that is you gave us the ability to partially free roam, although the path is usually forward... how you move forward is up to you... yes there are structures to guide you but its not about where you went but that you make it to the end... my real verdict? yea go ahead and make a sequel.... ill purchase, just make sure to lean all the way in creating immersion, i need a full soundtrack that plays into and react to player moves instead of sparse once in a while sounds (my spotify playlist made up for this but an in game one would be great) and solid story thats easy to follow and a little more complex, give us also real power ups and even rpg attachments dont be afraid to make us too powerful, this games true spark is its visual and audiable journey... create elements that compliment this, i want you to really push the limits of environments, stuff we haven't seen before, i believe in the vision but i want to fully align my self to it, this has the potential to win an award. im looking forward to what you do next.
breathtakingly beautiful and ridiculously fun.
0 HUD, tutorial consists of telling you how to fly the orb and that's about it. I don't know what the story is (or if there even is one) but I will say it's a very relaxing game. Except for the Nautilus level, anyone who has thalassaphobia will hate that level. Despite there being 0 creatures in the entire game. Regardless, looks absolutely beautiful and runs at 240hz with all settings turned to the max. I'll likely refund it because I don't think I'll play it again, but this was my 2nd time playing it and I had the same experience as last time. The game looks beautiful, def go check it out.
This is an incredible game. It's very relaxing and you can just let your mind drift away and forget all your current worries and stressors. Guy who came up with this is a genius. Following in the footsteps of Tiny Wings and a few others of course, but it's a truly unique contribution to the genre. If you like lo-fi beats and music you'll enjoy the accompaniment too. If you appreciate the beauty of the Darren Aronovsky movie "The Fountain," you'll deeply appreciate this game too. I'll have 100 hours on this thing one day easily. I can't even imagine how fun it would be to play less than sober.
