As a Journey player, I find this game a pleasure to play. While it is not in the same league as Journey, it is becoming a fun alternative.
If you're thinking this game will scratch an itch left by Journey, then think again. It plays like it was made by someone who had Journey described to them but never played it themselves. Everything feels off with this game. The character animations are only vaguely related to what you're doing, the controls are floaty and inaccurate, and it's never entirely clear where you're supposed to be going or what you're supposed to be doing. A poor Journey wannabe made by people who didn't understand that game and its exquisite mechanics in the first place. Avoid.
Interesting short game, with some unknown replayability. There are supposedly secrets that appear after you beat the game once. Also, no clue how to get the majority of achievements.
A shorter, uglier, and alot less fun to play Journey that has the audacity to end with a "To be continued".
Engagement is so low that I was able to watch foreign movies, with subtitles, and still know what I was doing here. It's short and the ending is abrupt. The puzzle element is simple and becomes a battle of figuring out how far you can travel. There just isn't much here. There's potential but that's about it.
Meh. I'm not going to recommend it. Journey is one of my favorite games, and this is an obvious inspiration from it, but it just falls short.
The gameplay is linear platforming with a few spatial puzzles. Then....it just ends. That's the entire game.
:-\
This is a beautiful light platformer with a touch of a walking simulator. A relaxing and immersive game with a heavy spiritual overtone to it with Hinduistic and Buddhist influences. It reminded me of Ancient Knowledge and other reviewers have mentioned Journey which is on my wishlist.
This is not a walk in the park as you have to work your way through different environments and challenges on your way to enlightenment. That sounds really heavy, but the game is quite light and enjoyable.
Music is lovely with Indian overtones to it, but it did wear thin after a while. I only got half of the achievements despite going back in to hunt for them. Dunno where they were?!
If you're looking for something unusual...this is it. Highly recommend. 8/10
So this is a tough one, while technically I give the game a thumbs up - you might find it not worth your time.
Quick score: music 9/10, graphics 8/10, atmosphere 9/10, gameplay 5/10, story n/a
This is supposed to be a "deep" game to make you think, reflect etc. in this for me it failed - it offers a few "contemplation points" where you sit and get 2 lines of text, this text while apparently supposed to be philosophical is rather non-sensical and does not make me find any deeper meaning in it - despite me being rather open to such ideas. What make this even worse is a rather unsatisfying ending(I am not even sure what its supposed to mean if anything).. it does have a "to be continued" so maybe in an expansion or update we will get more.
Game-play - well there is not much to it, it's a super simple platformer with a few "hidden" secrets, time to complete 2-3h, the game does have a few bugs and it's apparently possible to get stuck or break it in some way - hopefully it will get an update.
Despite all the criticism I don't regret buying/playing Areia, if you know what to expect(and I did) than you will probably not be disapointed though also probably not thrilled. I wish this game got some more work put into it, maybe an expansion.
What got me liking it was the atmosphere and music. Overrall it's an OK game with a not fully realized potential.
I'm not a good on making reviews, so I will just share my experience with the game.
The sound tracks are really good, makes you feel immersed on the universe and gives a good vibe.
The beginning is a little bit too long and the puzzles are simple and in the same style (would be awesome to have different types of puzzles in the next episodes).
If you enjoyed the game "Journey", high chances of you enjoying this one.
Generally speaking I loved the game and was totally worth the money!
Highly recommended!
Areia is a relaxing adventure game filled with puzzles that are challenging yet never frustrating. The game has a great visuals and soundtrack to boot. Definitely recommend picking this one up!
top pc game! nice chill atmosphere! I realy
I tried to enjoy this game, I really did, but it was just not a game I personally could get into nor recommend. Maybe someone else will enjoy it, but I did not.
Nice relaxing game with some simple and fun puzzles. Recommended for people who enjoy games like Flower, Journey, Abzu, etc.
This is a very beautiful exploration puzzle game similar to Journey. While not as polished as Sony's classic, Areia: Pathway to Dawn's barren environments have a zen-like peaceful beauty all their own. The addictive unique mechanics you discover on your quest through the world bring life to the environment and allows to alter the level and your path through the game, connecting your character to the world they inhabit.
If you're a fan of relaxing exploration puzzle games similar to Journey, then I can't recommend this one highly enough.
Turn down the lights, put on your headphones, zone out, and enter the stunning world of Areia: Pathway to Dawn!
This game is truly amazing. The ambiance, the music, the meaning, the references to Estearn culture and philosphy, the landscapes....I just die to be able to play to the next episodes !
Haven't finished the game yet, but so far it has great atmosphere, very mystical. The music and environments look and sound great and its a good game for relaxing platforming.
10/10
Would wander the desert seeking enlightenment again.
Beautiful, atmospheric, peaceful. Great to see such good stuff coming out of Brazil.
