I have not played long:
I do enjoy the game but it has some flaws, those being there is no diagonal movement, your height is just a slider which I found to be not enough and settings needs more menus. However, the game is an enjoyable experience even if it needs more work.

only a few things this game needs
1: more tracks like a turn table
2: make a plains and more maps
3: let the trains be able to head to the other map via tunnel or tracks that would be really cool
4 something i want in this game: multiplier with your friends or other people that would make the game super cool
5: can you make controls for Hp reverb g2 it thinks its the first one
other then that you should really get this game so much fun especial if you grew up with wooden trains or you like trains a lot like me :) thank you for making this game it is so fun :) it is worth way more then 10$ i got it on sale but its really fun
So simple and so satisfying. I loved running the game for the first time. Opening the menu and placing my first pieces of track, they clicked together so flawlessly. The game doesn't give you much to work with but has a lot to offer. It is taking some time for me to get used to the controls on an index and especially the locomotion with turning (when I move forward or backward the left and right turn is on the same stick so it fades to black and un-fades to turn so thats a little annoying). Other than the controls there isnt anything bad about this game. 36/36
I have played a lot of games and this game is one of my favorites, although it gets boring after a long time i highly suggest this to anyone who grew up with train sets like these. (suggestion; more tracks, trains, tools should be added in order for there to be more to do in game)

For me this is what VR is all about. An incredibly simple idea that allows you to explore your creativity in an engaging and addictive fashion. TrainerVR is easy to learn but draws you in so that time literally melts away, and next thing you know you're taking off your headset and hours have passed. Creating tracks and placing pieces is easy and intuitive to do, but as your track grows an extra layer of strategy is introduced by way of managing multiple trains via switches and stop/go lights.
My only gripe with this game is that the number of objects available is fairly limited, I mean there's enough there to keep you busy for a while but it would be great if devs invested some time and effort into adding more on a regular basis, especially considering some of the objects already included are open source. Or open this game up to the workshop so fans such as myself can add objects. Also the first person mode when riding the trains needs some work, but its usable at least.
Overall I think this is a must own VR experience and a welcome change of pace from the endless selection of shooters coming out...
A simple train track building sim with endless possibilities you can build a small simple loop to a sprawling massive city with intricate woven tracks, the game gives you two play areas to choose from, the first being a blank vast area and a small rocky canyon filled map. The graphics are amazing, it's a ton of fun just watching the little trains chug along but the physics need work, especially when entering the train view; I often found the train suddenly derailing the moment I tried to drive. Great price for what it is, highly recommended for train enthusiasts who don't have enough space at home to build your model train sets!
If I was sent to a desert island with only one VR game it would be this one.
Building infinite wooden train tracks and then driving the train afterwards? No other fantasy can really top this.
Just played this on Linux (opensuse) with Proton (defaulted to Experimental didn't try other versions), Steam Beta and SteamVR Beta with a Valve Index and it worked flawlessly for me. There are no other reports on whether this works or doesn't hence this review.
As for the game it is a fun little train set with the only issue is the controllers aren't Vive ones so you have to experiment with the controls of the index to find out what does what; took about 10 minutes. The only thing I haven't discovered is how to close the application cleanly.
Anyway I can recommend this if you like building train sets and just want a few relaxing VR moments.
Immediately hooked! So much fun building my track in the mountains area, it seems filled with endless possibilities. Would love to see more environments and stuff but as it is for the price i'm extremely happy and have a lot to play and experiment with. :) Virtual Toy Set A+
Society says when your an adult you have to stop playing with toys, keep them in the box and say they're collectables. TrainVR lets you play with your toys and ignore society.
This game is great! So much fun! Running the trains into each other causes explosions, plus there's TNT you can set and blow up your tracks just for fun. I love being able to build multiple levels of trains as well. 5/5 for sure.
I bought this for my PSVR a few years ago and was a little disappointed cause you can't enter the train. Then I saw this for PCVR recently and it says it allows you to enter the train even though I couldn't find anything in the video or internet that shows it. Anyway, I decided to give it a shot since it was on sale too. Wow, it's true you can enter the trains and it's made the app 100 times better! Hope the dev update it for PSVR owners too so, they can enjoy this amazing function, which changes the game completely to another level. Another great idea is if the dev allowed you to import own 3D models (even allowing text input would be amazing - since this is a creative app for people who like creation), that'll be cool, even a workshop maybe, since it has some Google Poly stuff (but shutting down 30 Jun 2021 though).
I have 'Rolling line' and that's a cool app for mods and stuff, but the learning curve is much steeper and complex I find. This one is so much simpler and easier to just pick up and play/create! Highly recommend for people who likes to create & play! 👾🧐👍
I like it for it's simplicity but it would be nice to have more control over the environment. Things like weather effects and changing the time of day in realtime to modify the atmospheric lighting. I would like to have the ability to make it snow and control the intensity. The option to change the paint on the train parts would be nice but what would be really cool is the ability to ride the train in VR from the conductors or passengers perspective. : )
I recommend this because it's a unique experience and it's not your common wave shooter. You can spend hours building tracks and setting up trains to your liking so it offers plenty of replay value.
Works fine on my Lenovo Explorer VR headset.
Ok, let me say this: if you like trains, this open box world for trains is the go to. I never liked the train set that was set in this game, but I built three ‘worlds’ in this game before I knew it. I spent half my day in this game. The things possible in this game allow for so much fun. My first two worlds was just to wet my whistle. Pun intended. There are so many options to put things down to make different sceneries, that it can and probably will take one more than a few days to make any decent size set up.
I totally recommend this game. Even if you are on the fence about it, get it. Your kids probably will take over it. If you let them!
This game is great, but WHY DOES THE UFO KEEP STEALING MY TRACK PIECES?! WHAT GIVES?
Originally had height issues, but the developer quickly got back to me to explain where to change my height settings.
Really a fun, nostalgic experience. The developer is active as well.
Only reccommendations now are:
1. Allow the menu to be seen below the floor
2. Ability to change color/texture of floor (a grass texture for example)
3. Of course more items, decorations, obscure tracks (to reconnect everything together when things get slightly off) would all be awesome. But honestly, the current options are already more than most of us had as kids already, so by no means is this a deal-breaker.
It could also be really cool to have a living room environment to make this even more nostalgic!
Wonderful and unique VR experience. If this is catching your eye, I definitely reccommend picking it up.
Really enjoyable game. Very peaceful and relaxing to play and even better if you actually sit on your floor like you did as a kid. :)
Only thing I said for (other than the obvious more train car variations) is for different environments. It would be nice to have something other than the stark white floor like a wooden floor, carpeted floor, or even grass or dirt. Just something a little more than empty white.
Now that I think about it, furnished spaces like a living room or a bedroom could provide interesting “challenges” like building around/over furniture like a bed or desk or couch...you get the idea. Just a thought.
Overall very nice game and job well done to the devs!
When I was just a kid barely old enough to sit up on my own, my mom took me to the bank where they had a Santa sitting out front to listen to the kid's Christmas wishes. My mom tried to get me to sit in Santa's lap and tell him what I wanted and I remember thinking "Who the fuck is this smelly old man?" and since I was just a baby, I cried until my mom gave up on the idea.
A year or two later we went back to the same Santa Claus and I sat in his lap and told him I wanted (among other things) a train set for Christmas. Santa, being the type to hold a grudge, decided that I wasn't getting the train set I wanted for Christmas, or the Race car set, or the remote control car, or anything else that I asked for.
Cut to modern day when I was able to buy this game... Fuck you Santa, I got it my own damn self!
Some things I liked:
- Building is pretty simple; just choose the track piece and you can hear when it snaps into place.
- likewise putting the engine on the track is equally simple; just put the engine and the cars you want down on the track.
- There's some ambient city sounds that plays in the background as well as some music (some of which sounds like it came straight from a "Charlie Brown Cartoon Special" on CBS
- There's some scenery options with various buildings as well as some people and animals to stand around looking at the train go by.
- You can also place track warning signals that will go off automatically as the train goes by, as well as working gates and stop signals.
- You can never run out of track and you always have the right number/right size pieces you need
Things that could use improvement:
- Placing some objects is a bit awkward, mostly the tall and skinny objects as they are prone to fall over.
- You're purely an external spectator. For some reason I thought there was a mode where you could ride as a passenger on the train, but that must have been another game.
- With larger train setups, there's no real comfortable way to watch the train go on the track.
- There's no TNT for blowing up bridges. How can I re-enact the train wrecks from the Addams family without it?
[*] The room/background you're in is rather sterile as a plain white background. They should at least provide one "child's bedroom" background and maybe one "realistic countryside" background. Anything is better than the plain white.
Some other things to note:
* This is purely a sandbox, and so there's nothing to do but play with the train set.
* Some items appear to only have one style, but pressing the grip buttons will cycle through some alternate models (this isn't immediately clear though).
* Single Player only... It might be nice to play this multiplayer, even if the other person can only play through the setups I've built.
Still, all things considered, this is still fun to play around with and I hope to see some improvements in the future.
Remember when you had those wooden train rails as a kid, and it seemed like you never had enough blocks to build what you truly wanted to build? Welp, those days are over.
Place some tracks, add some props, put on a train, and away you go. Simple, fun, and relaxing VR game.
OK, understand I am 64 years young. Been around since before stuff like this was a thought. Into video games since the 70's and still today. In my day, the cool thing was to have a train set. The bigger the setup, the more fun it was. TrainVR is the closest thing I've come across that allows me to revisit childhood. It IS Early Access, so it does come with a few issue's. More content and functionality should added to have this game fulfill itself. And the Devs are off to a great start!
Now understand... I usually 'refund' as soon as I hit several problems. I prefer to pay when something is nearly polished. But as much as there are glitches in this game that can be frustrating at times, it IS SO MUCH FUN! It is very useable and I've completed a few trainsets that ran without a glitch. But rIght now, for me, thats not the norm yet. Once you see the quality of what's gone into this, you know the Devs will fix things and hopefully add more content. Despite its early glitches, it does gives hours of fun. It's simplistic, graphics are excellent and it's super EZ to lose yourself for hours playing this. I will say that even though it needs some work, I still highly recommend it! It's only going to get better...
Grand little game. Laying the track is easy fair, world objects require a little more delicacy, and could do with a snap in place on the base, without having the abilty to wipe out other objects around them. One problem i did have, was not having the ability to rotate. It would be fantastic if you could spin the world on the controller, a help for those with limited roomspace.
Trainer is certainly a base start, more musical options, ambience in the lighting, a few more world objects.. basicaly all the stuff a big kid 40 something cares about, where as a 5 year old, maybe not so much.
Basic maybe, but thats probably the point:)
This game is awesome and is so fun to play and i highly recomend picking it up there is just a bit of a problem it is nearly imposible to connect two tracks once you get really complex i know this is one i can keep coming back to the art is cute the controls are flawless. I think a solution would just be a bit of a flex track like they have with real model trains. One thing that would also be awesome is if you could ride in the passenger car to see your creation from the trains point of veiw. Great game cant wait for more updates 8/10
