i bought this because i have been playing it on mobile and it takes wayyyy too long to recharge your AP, but the story is really well written, so i wanted to play it on my pc.. i also noticed there are some fun puzzles in this version and i can play it large screen this way. however... there's nothing wrong with my internet connection or pc, and i get a looping network error while downloading a file? it seems to be a common error for others and it's not fixed. the price is way too high for a bug to go unfixed for this long... over 2 years. i can't reccomend it based on that. but if you want to play the mobile version (warning- it will cost you if you want to keep reading) the story is really good!
I'm really upset. I've been playing this game on mobile, and fell in love with it. I decided to by it on steam to enjoy it in my PC, and to be able to play it all without waiting for scenes. Unfortunately, everything loads except for the characters. The background has a white rectangle in the top right corner, and there aren't any characters in the game. I've contacted their support, and they didn't fix it for me. My PC meets all the necessary requirements. I won't recommend anyone wasting money on the steam version, since it's clear that the creators only care about the mobile one now.
I really want to play this game, I bought it a while ago, but whenever I try there are no characters on the screen, just a white box in the upper right hand corner. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that did not help. I want to be able to play and leave a positive review, but I can't right now.
This game crashes for me shortly after startup it seems like an interesting idea for a game but due to being unable to play it I can not recommend it. I wasn't even able to get my money back due to the length of time that has passed since my purchase. I guess this is a lesson to make sure a game runs within the two week period after purchase even if you arent planning to play it at the time. Thankfully I only paid $8.99 for this title. But keep that in mind when trying to decide if this game is for you, I don't think it's worth the sale price let alone $29.99. This seems like a crazy high price to pay for a game that crashed 5 times in 14 minutes.

This is a really sweet love story with a nice flow. Although you can guess Henry's Secret from the beggining, you get into the emotional rollercoaster and even get to see his perspective sometimes what I enjoyed a lot. At first, I didn't like the way it was made game wise, but I soon got used to it and now I quite enjoy the interrogation/intimidation sessions you go through. The characters are really well made their personalities, likes and dislikes gives you a feeling they could exist for real. All the side characters that you meet have something to add and the game is quite long, so I think its worthy a try if you are looking for something smooth, emotional and fun. :)

It’s been quite a long time since I’ve enjoyed a game as much as I loved “Henri’s Secret”. This visual novel has a peculiar way to crawl deep into your heart and give you a warm and fuzzy feeling when you read it. It’s extremely addictive, among the lines of “one more turn” and telling myself that “I will read just one more scene” ended up with me staying up till dawn, way past my normal bedtime.
Even if the story is rather cliche, the writing is absolutely excellent. Not only that it’s fun and playful but also full on emotion and captures extremely well the psychology of young adults.
Our heroine, Lyla, is a high-school student whose life will be turned upside down after she meets the new guy in school, Henri. He’s a mysterious person and an introvert; she’s beautiful, bold, and full of confidence. Despite being a brilliant student, he had to repeat one school year and she’s set on finding out the reason. Getting closer to him makes her discover that the person hiding behind those nerdy glasses is in fact a strong, passionate, romantic and protective guy; she falls head over heels for him, while he struggles with himself to resist the urge to cave in to his feelings because he has a secret to protect. Their touching love story is bound to set you on a roller-coaster of emotions, one that will make you go into a rave when they finally get together and cry rivers when they’re apart.
At the center of the story is also the relationship between Layla and her two best friends, Clement and Jasmine, who have feelings towards each other but won’t admit it. The trio is extended with Henri joining the group, as a result of Layla becoming close to him. The interactions between the four main characters are the salt and pepper of this visual novel. Clement’s sarcastic and witty remarks will always spice up the mood and are guaranteed to make you laugh. Jasmine’s fangirling over her favorite superstar will make you roll your eyes but also excite you for the inevitable spiteful but jocular comments that Clement will make, out of jealousy. It’s a story not only about love, but also about friendship, about friends sticking together in need and having each other’s back.

The gameplay is linear, there are no choices and only one possible ending. The chapters are split into multiple scenes and each of them can be replayed after it is unlocked; however, there is no possibility to skip the read text. There is also no auto option (which means that you will have to click after each text snippet) but on the other hand this allows the player to enjoy the character animations at their own pace. In that regard, the 3D-models are very beautifully designed and their facial expressions change with every new line of text, adding dynamics to the reading process.
Being a visual novel, the main activity will be reading but there are some other mini-games too. Layla has a phone that she uses to take photos of various objects, to store contacts and update information about them and to receive messages from her friends. In order to progress through the story, she will occasionally have to show either a contact or one of the pictures she has already taken in order to trigger new conversations. This mechanic is extensively used during the confrontation mini-game, in which Layla challenges other characters and convinces them to admit a certain fact.
Music plays a huge role in Henri’s life, therefore it’s also a major component of the game. The soundtrack mixes soothing piano and cello tracks with romantic rock ballads vocally performed by the French musician Charly Sahona. The strong French accent that he has while singing in English might be charming for some and annoying for others. For me, it was a mix of both: his interpretation was a bit too mellow for my taste, but it did bring some nostalgia and sentimentality to the gameplay. Looking back at it, Henri’s Secret wouldn’t be the same without it, and I think the artist was a good choice after all.

The game is sadly not bug free. In fact, there are people having issues starting it or even having the characters rendered, this making the game completely unplayable for them. Some of these issues have been fixed already, but there are still some lingering bugs and mixed translations. In addition to that, a third of the achievements do not trigger and the developers are not active at all in the forums; my attempt to contact them via the forums or via their support email address was left unanswered to this date. Despite me being extremely strict with the aforementioned topics, I ended up loving the game so much that these issues became pretty meaningless to me. I had to restart one scene, but otherwise I was able to play the game till the end. One other thing to note is that it seems to require a network connection and there’s nothing in the game that can justify that.
Overall, it’s a pretty lengthy read (30h), but a savory one. A bit cheesy? Yes. But the well developed characters, the fun dialogues, the nice music, the slow crescendo of emotions made it worth every second. I picked it up with a 50% discount but after playing it I realized that I wouldn’t have regretted the purchase even if I had paid the full price for it, despite the game still having some major issues - that’s how much it grew on me. However, I would advice thinking twice before buying it full price, unless these issues will be fixed. With the occasional 50% - 70% discount it's a steal, given that you're in for the ride, and not for obtaining 100% in it.

Brief Summary
The story begins when Lyla and her friends notice there is a new guy at school. In an effort to make him feel welcomed, Lyla attempts to befriend him only to discover that he is not very open or friendly. After a series of failed attempts, Henri slowly begins to open up and they become friends.
Lyla starts to fall in love (of course) and Henri also seems to be interested, but there are things constantly left unspoken. Henri is occasionally absent from school and no matter of probing or friendship can seem to get him to explain where he is going.
Mechanics 3/5
The game is fairly polished, but there are several spelling mistakes that including mix up of letters in words, omitting letters in words altogether and a few instances where words needed to be omitted. Although they can be noticeable they are not terrible and won’t prevent anyone from enjoying the novel nor did it prevent me from understanding what was being said.
The only other issue I had with the writing was the parts in the novel where things like --…-- began to show up frequently. If there is a heavy price tag of $30 dollars on a game I expect things like this to be fixed to feel more justified in spending that kind of money. I bought this on sale so I wasn’t too overly annoyed, but that last bit of polishing in the writing does need to be fixed.
The only other problem I had were the parts where the game would crash on me for no reason. There were a few times that I had to restart and try again only to have it crash again, but eventually, it did manage to pull through and I got to the ending so it is still playable. Just be warned.
Choices, unfortunately, do not really matter. There are these points when you confront someone for hiding information or lying. You cannot continue the story without finishing these confrontations and there are no avoiding them. There is only one correct answer and finishing these prerequisites lead you to the same ending. Ergo, choices do not really matter.
Characters 4/5
Lyla was the only reason I cannot give this visual novel a character score of 5 out of 5. Lyla is the ideal character you would love to meet in real life. She is literally the ideal person you would grateful to have as a friend. The only problem is while she may have weaknesses (if she is hurt it cuts her deep) she has NO flaws. She is literally flawless. She can get jealous, but those moments are justified and tend to add a very rational mature outlook to the situation despite that brief moment she felt hurt. It was a scene that was a bit melodramatic. There were numerous areas where the others jokingly call her Mother Teresa except unlike Mother Teresa who is a human with flaws she does not have them. These type of people are wonderful human beings, but in novels, flawless characters are a little bland.
Otherwise, all the characters were a delight even Lyla if we overlook this one flaw. All the characters get angry, annoyed, shy, embarrassed, excited, happy, hurt, and scared. The roller coaster of emotions was done amazingly well. Even the minor characters that were a bit stereotypical were well balanced, thorough and believable. I don’t think this could have been handled better.
The best character, however, was Henri as he was the most developed character. He struggles with insecurities all throughout the novel. Here was a man who desperately wants to be accepted for who he is and not because he is also a famous pop star. There is a constant feeling of tug and war as you watch Henri hide from the world versus his desire to come out – even a little – to be himself. It was a lovely touch and was a job well done on illustrating the burden a character like him might have in this kind of situation. Bravo!
Story 3.5/5
There are clichés in the story. It doesn’t really take away from the story as much as they simply exist. I only mention them because they are there, but just because they were there doesn’t mean it really bothered me. It is sort of what I expect from a slice-of-life high school story.
There ARE times, however, when the story felt like it was dragging on forever. There is a long part where Henri shows his obvious attraction to Lyla, but because of his insecurities, he pushes her away. Then, just when you think he is getting over those fears and things are good, he does it again. It is not really a huge flaw as much as it has the tendency to drags on, but at the same time, it enhances the story in showing the development of these characters. Conflicts are not simply introduced and instantly overcome. The characters struggle with their internal conflicts and this brings out the development of these characters out nicely.
Otherwise, my only other complaint was the fact that the climax was too short when it could have been dragged on a little longer. I would have loved to see Henri in anguish and tortured a little longer. It was far more interesting seeing Henri in anguish than it was seeing Lyla in pain. Unfortunately, those scenes were cut disappointingly short when you compare it to the other scenes that were less intense, but sometimes extremely long.
When we get to the resolution of the novel it begins to drag on again and becomes a bit repetitive. Readers do not need to have scenes of characters constantly declaring their love to one another to convince the audience their love is real and while I understand that new young lovers can become embarrassingly passionate - it felt almost desperately needy. I just felt the balance was not quite right here. The whole basis of their last fight was basically whether Lyla truly knew who Henri was as a person or whether he was fake the entire time. However, once she accepts these new revelations she becomes a bit ravenous unable to handle a few seconds without him. It wasn’t necessarily bad as much as it was a little too much for me. It was cute and certainly passionate, but it was also a tad bit silly and immature. On the other hand, they did accomplish in wrapping up all the loose ends. I can't really complain about the ending otherwise. You win some, you lose some.
As for the the theme, it was a huge highlight. The ability to see each other for who we really are was constantly and consistently explored in many different conflicts and scenes and not only within the main characters.
Conclusion
I would highly recommend this novel for any otome enthusiasts. The quality was on spot. I would have preferred for the cost involved in buying this otome at full price to fix those spelling errors and grammatical mistakes, but again they did not impede me from enjoying the novel. Honestly, based on the quality of the artwork, the sheer length of the novel, and the decency of the story itself it is not really off the mark charging its full price. Still, those mistakes should be fixed and if you can buy this novel on sale and if it sounds like your cup of tea, try to not miss out.

i have played a lot of visual novels and was a little aprhensive about this one at first cause of the bug that was reported but i bought it cause the developers posted on here that it was fixed and im glad i did it was well worth it i was able to get all the way to the end was a great game if you have problems i also read the the post they put and checked out the link they posted i dont know if was that or if they fixed it but it worked loved it cant wait to play again
