Amazing gameplay, graphics and gaming mechanics. I absolutely love this game and is probably my favorite yet! Definitely recommend to anyone thinking about getting it!

If I remember correctly one of the cons was that you can skip places by going to the next checkpoint.

The story and immersion into that story that this game provides are some of the best I have experienced so far. Very much a story driven game. Recommend looking up a gameplay video before purchasing to know if it is for you.

A Plague Tale: Innocence Review: "Rats, Lots of Rats"
It's the Middle Ages, your little brother won't stop coughing, and the streets are overrun with more rats than a pizza shop on garbage day. The game looks stunning, the story's gripping, and the stealth makes your heart race.
Oh, and did I mention the rats?
9/10—would dodge rodents with a stick again.
Got the game on sale to try something new. Very good game and worth getting. Im now looking at getting the new one for sure.

For those who enjoy narrative-driven games with well-developed storytelling, gameplay, and atmosphere, this one is a must-play. Gameplay mechanics are stealth-based and include collecting and crafting alchemy resources, rat swarms (the most memorable part of the gameplay for me, by the way) that play a major role in puzzle solving, and character development. It was an engaging experience, I absolutely loved the game (already bought and played the sequel) and highly recommend it.
Very good game, I had my first playthrough in 2022 and just finished the second one. This game is definitely replayable. It is quiet easy tbh, but that let's you focous on the story and fits the vibe.

The visual, the music, the story, It's beautiful.
The game play is straight forward, it's not the longest or most complex game but it's enough to feel satisfied. It's fairly easy, with lots of indirect hints that make you feel like you solved it, even though you got quite a big nudge.
It's so hard to find these kinds of sweet spot games. For me, an RPG has always been about immersing yourself into another world, another story, like a book that you can act out (Not health bars, grinding, skill trees/crafting more complex than some degrees, although I appreciate that is what some people like - I'm looking at you AC, Deadspace etc). This game is exactly that and I thank it for being exactly that.
Play it in a dark room, away from distractions and let yourself melt into the story.
I've already bought the follow-on, so look forward to how that plays out.

Solid game. I thought I wouldn't like it based on the first 2-3 hours. It does a good job at building mystery, but gameplay-wise, it's very slow. And there's not much in terms of gameplay diversity at first, and it's very formulaic and janky in some regards. The voice acting is very mixed. Some of it is ok and some is very cringe. The more that was revealed of the story and the villain made me more and more intrigued in the world and characters. It's a well presented game with an interesting and horrifically beautiful world. Idk how the kids aren't more traumatised after witnessing the pure carnage and devastation.Great story line, interesting follower tactic
Good game with good graphic. The only downfall would be for some mission which do not allow you to skip dialogue after failing and restarting the mission.

A Plague Tale isn't the type of game you'd normally find me playing, as I tend to lean more towards fantasy RPGs or "cozy" games. It was in my recommended on Steam, along with the sequel (which I have yet to start), and it caught my attention. While it isn't my "usual" type of game, I can't say no to anything with a rich story-line. And that is exactly what I got.
I admit some parts of the story confused me a fair bit, but I think the questions I still have could probably be solved with a second play, or maybe I'll find the answers in the next game. A bit of confusion aside, I really enjoyed the clear and straightforward plot. There were a lot of details I appreciated, such as Amicia and Hugo essentially being "strangers", because the player and Amicia both get to know him as the game progresses. Rather than having Hugo thrust at us like "here is your brother. Technically your character knows all about him, but we have to make it seem like she doesn't because we have to explain stuff you *you*". It makes sense given the context of the plot.
Amicia was really interesting to play as. I'm guessing she's likely no older than fourteen? This young teenage girl goes from playing in the woods with her father, to being the sole caretaker, protector, companion, as well as authority figure to a little brother she hardly knows anything about. At times I could feel the frustration Amicia felt when Hugo wouldn't listen- and let me tell you, it made me want to text my big sister and apologize for every time I misbehaved while she babysat me growing up. She was frustrated, scared, and confused, but she never let any of that get in the way of taking care of Hugo. Even when she lost her cool- which didn't happen often -it was understandable. Because even though Amicia is the "grown up" in her situation, she herself is still a child, and she had everything taken from her in such a short amount of time. I'm interested to see how her trauma will affect in when I play Requiem. Amicia was a great main-character: resourceful, brave, and someone you rooted for the entire game.
As for Hugo, I was pleasantly surprised with him. He wasn't particularly bratty or annoying like I feared he would be, and even in his more difficult moments you have to stop and consider for the moment his situation. He's a child, he's literally only five years old... and he's afraid and confused, just like Amicia- who, again, is essentially a stranger to him. His world was in his room, safe and sound with his mother caring for him. Suddenly that safety is ripped away and he's exposed to death, illness, cruelty, and the only sense of familiarity is the face of a big sister he hardly knows.
The music was very good. Each instrumental fit its setting well. However, if you're someone who gets stressed out with "enemy" music, you may want to lower the music volume or turn it completely off... I am someone who panics when I hear enemy sounds/music, but I kept the music on for this game, and I wound up getting very, *very* anxious at certain points.
Speaking of anxious... as panicked as I was running and hiding from enemies, I really enjoyed the gameplay. Maybe the stakes felt higher since more often than not, Hugo is with you during these moments, but I found myself holding my breath as I waited for enemies to pass by, praying they wouldn't notice me there. The mechanics involving Amicia's sling were easy to grasp, not at all tricky or annoying.
I felt like the game gave you plenty of opportunities to figure things out for yourself, no hand-holding needed. And in a few particular moments when I was taking a long time trying to figure out something, one of the characters would give a little hint which helped get me back on track.
Don't even get me started on the voice acting. It was PHENOMENAL. The voice actors really knocked it out of the park. Amicia's screams during a particular moment near end-game... I was bawling like a baby. All of the VAs really did an amazing job, I feel like it's rare to find a game with such perfect voice acting. Even Vitalis's voice was perfect- and by that I mean, every time that man opened his mouth he gave me the heebie-jeebies.
The character design is one of my favorite things about this game. I won't spoil too much, but the progression of Amicia's appearance was PERFECT. I so enjoy when a MC's appearance makes sense in the given context. Amicia starts off with a neatly braided/pinned hair with a pink ribbon, and vivid red tunic, but gradually the hair comes loose/gets messier, the ribbon fades, and the vivid red turns into a dark, muddy-looking brown. Details like that are always something I enjoy. Hugo also had gradual appearance-changes that I really liked.
I'll stop rambling now. All in all, I would 100% recommend A Plague Tale. It has an interesting story, characters you want to succeed (as well as characters you want to high-five with a brick), easy to grasp mechanics, and beautiful music and graphics. It's a great game, really.
All I can say that this game is underrated and it's beyond criminal. I can't believe I haven't seen more people talk about it.
The visuals are outstanding, the story is great and immersive. The gameplay can feel frustrating from time to time, but I do believe that is purely a skill issue:tm:

The story is Amazing!
I watched a recap quickly on this game and went into Requiem and finished it early 2024, now I will actually play the first game
Because I only played Requiem on Xbox PC Gamepass, I'm reviewing both the games here
In both of the Plague Tale games:
-The music is perfect
-The atmosphere and tension it brings is one of the best I've seen
-Story is a masterpiece
-The endings to both games are amazing
-Innocence sets up Requiem perfectly, and is transitioned nicely (seeing how Amicia & Hugo have grown, etc)
-Controller vibrations are great, I definitely suggest playing with an Xbox or PlayStation Controller (Xbox having more strength to its vibrations, but not much variety, while PS has little vibrations to footsteps, sling, etc, but a less powerful vibration when for example rats are shaking the ground)
Innocence:
-Creates a perfect exposition for the Plague Tale series
-Less freedom given to the player as Requiem
-Great graphics for its time
The Game Awards seem to really hate A Plague Tale games, or the other nominees (Like Elden Ring, God of War, etc) are just too popular for them to even stand a chance (In 2019 and/or 2022: they should've won best soundtrack, performance, narrative, and more)
Requiem is pretty much a 10/10 for me, it's my favourite game of all time
Innocence just makes Requiem so much better, seeing that this already amazing game is improved in Requiem

Beautiful story, the game looks stunning, performance gone smooth with the current system, no issues at all, had some problems in the past, years ago on the old system with ryzen 9 5900x combined with rx 6900xt and 32 gb ddr4 3600 mhz, where I do not know what happen with my save at some point, the game was entering in the game menu then on the loading continue story the game goes in windows screen and shutdown itself with no errors at all and neither windows, so to make it short the game was fine but some windows updates or drivers idk for sure made me put the game on pause for some long period, I just put my mind and focus on other games, I did not had the patience at that particular moment to deal with it. After years, when I changed my system completely, I search in library for forgotten or unfinished story driven games, long story short I regretted it that I was not fixing the problem at the time back then, games like this reminds me that history, art and human mind can go wonder and create gems! Can't wait to finish Requiem now! I want to give a big thank you to all the people at Asobo Studio and to all of those who participated to create this beauty!
One of the best story driven game that I've ever seen. So great atmosphere of medieval France, so good storytelling thrue environment. Gameplay also interesting and catching. Defenetly one of my favorite game.

The story may not be very long over all, but it carries a lot of depth with numerous surprises. It took no time at all for me to get hooked into the story. The only downside for me was that I had to convince myself to sleep before I went to work every time I played this game.
As someone who has a hard time immersing myself into the world of a single player story I found myself engrossed from the beginning. I beat it in one sitting which I have never done before. Beautiful graphics and a great story make the time fly by. The only gripe I have with the game is the "boss fights" were poorly executed. The soundtrack is subtle which works well, flipping between melancholy instrumentation to wide open hopeful solo instrumentation.
TLDR; as someone who never finishes single player games I fully recommend this to anyone looking for a story driven game with good stealth mechanics.
Great game. It's a very linear, story-focused game with tight gameplay mechanics, and it was nice playing this after having played through so many open-world games lately (especially since some of them are so open that their story suffers from aimlessness). Fun points to mention:
- The game has chapter select available, so don't worry about having to worry about grabbing collectables.
- The game is set in France, so setting the French language dub is pretty fun. The English dub is really good too.

Great little game, excellent graphical presentation, good gameplay and characters. I liked the slower pacing of the game, reminded me of TLOU in that regard. Voice acting/ cutscene animations could be a bit better (not on TLOU level) but still good enough to sell the story. Overall, i had fun and the game didn't overstay it's welcome.
If you wanna just play for the story , then sure give it a try . It is very linear . VERY LINEAR . The last chapters youll see yourself dying a million times just because you decided to kill the soldier on the right instead of the one on the left first . Will never touch this again .

This is a very atmospheric game, where the story and the characters' journey takes priority over gameplay. If you've played Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and enjoyed it, you will also enjoy this. Good game, but I hope the gameplay is a bit more innovative and expanded upon in the sequel.

I'm never a person who is into medieval ear, or knights, let alone the black death plague. But the there are tremendous amount of efforts put into the game. The graphics is next gen, voice lines are immersive. Maps are astonishingly beautiful. Game mechanism is easy but smooth. Very good game. I give it a thumb up.

The storyline is liniar, divided into chapters, providing an experience to reading a story. The gameplay focused on stealth, resource management and a bit of combat.
If you are thorough in your exploration, it is possible to upgrade everything in one playthrough. You can select the chapters if by any chance you missed collectibles and don't wish to do another playthrough.
I also found it is very convenient that there are frequent checkpoints and being able to restart from the previous checkpoint because i noticed that sometimes you did not get the achievement even though you fulfilled the criterias, but it seemed to work by restarting the last checkpoint and doing it again in order to get the achievement.
It is a very immersive game, the voice acting in English and French is high quality, the user interface is minimalist and the controls are standard, so you are easily familiarized to how to gameplay especially if you played stealth games before.
The game is relatively short, took around 12 hours to get all the achievements, although if you want to focus on just the story, you should easily finish it in around 9 hours.
Would recommend to buy it at a discount since you would often see it at around 6-8 euro rather than 40 euro considering it has no potential for replayability and its 9-12 hours long.
good story puzzle game for when you just want to chill and take a break from other games. lowkey got annoyed by hugo but he's a lil kid so it's understandable i guess(?). also nice visuals.

It is fun. The story and acting are fantastic. Rats are gross, but that is the feeling they game is trying to inspire, so they have done a good job. I don't know that it is worth full costs--my understanding is that the main story is only about 7 or 8 hours. I am about half way through. Perhaps wait for a sale.

Good story. Checkpoint save system was annoying. The boss fight mechanics where unclear at times.
Really strong game. It's not super long, but the pacing is amazing, so you feel entertained for the entire playtime. Worth full price, so a must-buy on sale.
A fun but sad game about how the world changes people, but also about how they remain the same.
One of the best games I've ever played. Absolutely captivating graphics, wonderful storyline, engaging characters and masterful soundtrack.
Anecdotally, I lost my amazing father three years ago and a few month's after his passing, I replayed this game. When Amecia lost her own father, holy shit, it opened a floodgate of emotions for me and I released a lot of built-up sadness I had over my own Dad's passing. That's how good this game is lol.

Legendary game honestly, no propaganda whatsoever, direct exposure of those evil f-r-e-e-m-a-s-o-n-s whom rule this earth. 10 playthroughs and counting, each one gets better and better.
A good, story-driven game. Worth the time to play through.
A few annoying scenarios you have to work through, but overall quite good. .
Full Completion time, including going back through 4 chapters to acquire missed goods, took about 14 hours so it's a bit short. However, in an era when games that have a good story are few and far between, this is worth playing. ..

Fantastic gameplay. Great acting and stunning environments. The stealth aspects work well and combat is balanced - mostly optional although some required in later chapters. It has aged very well and I am looking forward to the sequel which is now just over two years old.
