I've never played Mega Man X5, X6, X7 and X8 until I got my hands on this collection, and I truly love it.

I focus on the cool story, the graphics, the music and the gameplay support for modern devices instead of the other aspects that others get into (lack of skipping dialog, constant intervention of another character, gameplay that can be better, yada yada).

I wonder if there is going to be a remastered version of Mega Man X5 and X6, like an "alternate-modern-gameplay-better version", I see that companies are making remastered versions of their iconic games so... I wonder if this can be a possibility.

But overall I like this collection, is really cool and I have some songs from the franchise in my Spotify.

While I'm happy to see the latter half of the Megaman X series preserved, I personally can't recommend anyone actually play them. X5-X8 don't quite hit the same as the X1-X4. X5 feels like watered down X4, X6 is watered down X5, and X7 is so watered down, it only barely has any remnant of what it originally was. X8 almost hits the mark, but it almost felt like too little too late.
          Only buy this collection if you either;
A: You want to be really thorough with going through the Megaman series (Why I was here)
B: Have childhood nostalgia towards any of the games

There is so much about these games I can say, but I think everyone else has said it a hundred times over. As someone who is a massive Megaman fan, I admit that I never tried the X series past the SNES before this bundle. After playing Megaman Zero/ZX and loving them to death, I wanted to see what the Maverick Wars were all about. What could possibly be so bad that it ended all of humanity almost?

Oh. My. God. It was these games.

Let me just give you the experience. I boot up X5. Love the cutscenes, the animations are stellar, then I get to the first level. I choose Volt Kraken, because I want the electric power to use against the water boss and start the weakness chain. It takes me ten lives to get past the first room because the game is designed to be like I Wanna Be The Guy in that you need to die to learn about unavoidable traps like walls that pop up too fast and troll spikes. It's an arcade game, on your console. Suffering through the level multiple times, I finally reach the room with the two locks and the spikes. You know the one. I decide I am simply not built for this. I back out. The game says I wasted an hour of my in-game time. I feel like I wasted a lot more. I decide to move on.

I boot up X6. Surely, I'll have a better time. Things are going just like before, nice and pretty, cool 3D effects...then I pick my first stage. I choose the shark because he looks coolest and I know his weapon will be strong against the fire guy. The entire level is an instant kill ceiling trap. Okay, fine. I duck down in the divots to dodge the ceiling. I let go of duck because I don't want to hold it the entire time the ceiling is on top of my little hole. I die. OKAY, FINE. I continue regardless. The ceiling now has spikes on it, because what I needed was another inch taken from the half of the screen I could already use. This is no longer fine. I decide to move on.

I boot up X7. I want to kill myself after listening to Axl's voice. I want to live again after hearing Zero's voice. I want to kill myself again after playing the game for five minutes.

I boot up X8. I pray to the heavens that someone will send me even a moment of fun. A person lost in the desert, I would pay blood for a drop of water. I wouldn't even feel the cut of the knife, because the pain these games have inflicted on me are far greater. I try the sunflower stage, because it seems pretty simple. You just play a bunch of minigames. They were okay. There was only one part with ridiculous platforming and it wasn't even that hard. I finally see a boss, for the first time in any of these games. I fight the boss. He gets to 25 percent health and summons the Hammer Of Dawn upon my skull multiple times in a row, each one doing half of my health worth of damage. I try four more times, each times being stopped from victory by a gigantic "screw you, not today" laser that takes up half the boss room.

But no, no. Not this time. This time, I don't want to give up. I have to try harder. I'm just going to try another stage, I say. I choose the snowy stage.

I am once again on a bike. Like a hellish treadmill, I look back and realize I AM PLAYING X5 AGAIN. I REALIZE MY COMPUTER HAS GONE MAVERICK. I KNEEL, AND BEG FOR MERCY. PLEASE, ONE BOSS, I BEG. JUST ONE. A SINGLE BOSS.

THE HELLISH COUNTENANCE OF THIS DEMON LOOKS UPON ME, AND WITH WRETCHED BREATH, UTTERS "RESET."

I SCREAM. IT COSTS ME ONE HOUR.

2/4 of these games are good which can be a huge reason into someone not buying this however if you own the second Legacy Collection it's assumed you bought it with the first one. X5 and X8 are great games and I would recommend you try them despite the shitty games that are X6 and X7 but I would recommend you try them too regardless maybe you'll end up liking them even if there's a low chance you will. I would highly recommend you buy this with the first Legacy Collection though lol.

Despide X4 being my favorite in the saga, X5 and X8 are still enjoyable and have a big jump in difficulty for those looking for challenges. On the other hand, although X6 is unbalanced asf, there's a mode to make it easier for new players. Sadly x7 still x7.

But it's worth its price for 2 good games and 1 which is okay.

The collection is still utter dogshit.

x5 was good until that stupid ass hour gimmick, the pain you have to go through to eliminate all backtracking, and the gaea armor
x6 makes me wanna play x5 armorless
im not even gonna bother with x7, just look up why its bad
x8 should have been perfect but the metal grinding and level design said "Nah, I'd ruin."

          WARNING!!!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Out of all the Mega Man X games, Mega Man X6 is the only good one. The original series didn’t know how bad they were until our savior, Koji Okohara, released Mega Man X6 for us to savior. X5 was okay. X3 does not even come close to being on X6's level.

The Intro: We never have been able to live in the X universe fully X6. It’s such a great feature to have, you get to meet Isoc himself, get to watch the news, get to become so emotional attached to your brother, Zero, to the point if something bad were to happen, you would spend your whole entire life looking for him and the person who harmed him. I am always a fan of Capcom. I especially love their long, unskippable intro stages just like the one found in this game. Too bad they didn’t make it longer. Then we get into the stage select.
Stage Select: After you get into the Stage Select after almost dying, you are treated to the awesomeness. You are told to go after 8 Mavericks so you can go further down into Gate's Laboratory. Upon getting into Yanmark's stage, it some how is unfair and instead of showing you the platform, it accidentally hides it off screen. After some time Zero, who I remind you that you care so much for you should go to the end of the earth if something were to happen to him, gets brought back to life by hiding himself and repairing himself. You beat Yanmark sometime after that. Your voice protagonist spews our some dialogue about why would “Sigma do this?!?” You finally arrive at Heatnix's stage, find a conveniently place red donut, fight it, and go to the next room.
Sirens go off, music plays, and you think to yourself, “I’m so excited to see what enemy is next!” The door doesn’t open, you are standing there, and you realized, you accidentally had some mods loaded and it’s bugged thus you can’t get to the next fight. No worries right? Right. Bugs are what makes Capcom games great, I was LOL’ing so hard at this. Like “oh, classic Capcom! You got me there.” You have to restart the whole game without the mods installed and get to relive the intro once more!

You finally emerge from the vault, and see that after Eurasia crashes, Reploid society did very little to rebuild its self. WHICH IS GREAT!!!! I get to explore an apocalyptic would without having to worry about having reploids needing to be rescued with backstories and lore to them!

The Story: The main plot of this story is, Zero who again, you have such a deep, emotional bond with, had been killed and brought back to life. This premise is much better than what the old studios did with Mega Man, like what, Dr. Wily is back? Boring. Sigma is back? More like Beta. Defeat a group of losers hunting you? Yikes. X4 had a pretty good story though. You go back to Blaze Heatnix's stage. After looking through the door and fighting some very scary enemies, you come to the conclusion that the donut isn’t here. Alia directs you to some corridor down the street to talk to the Reploids there.
You arrive at Rainy Turtloid's stage to find it has been taken over by Mavericks and some Reploid is trapped up in the temple. Essential characters are essential here thus you can’t kill the supposed good guys because that would be to hard to write around and quite frankly, be bad for us gamers. After fighting off some Nightmare Viruses, you are handed Leg Armor and a special weapon. Great! I was almost getting bored of not having some of the best items from day one! You meet some Colonel ripoff and he KNOWs that Zero is missing! You can respond in 4 ways! Yes, yes, yes, and yes! Great! I didn’t want to potentially click the wrong option and not be able to Zero! She tells us to go to Infinity Mijinion's stage for answers.

Upon arriving to Infinity Mijinion's stage, you realize the gate is closed shut. It’s been closed shut for the whole entire duration of you not being there. There are some crazy Maverick enemies who want in and a robot in the background. Her name is Illumina. Upon approaching her, she ask you if “you want in to the Weapons Center.” You have four options here. Yes, Yes, or No but Yes. Upon choosing any of these options, you get the same outcome. Getting into the Weapons Center. Conveniently, Illumina is a robot and she can help you with your missing Zero. She sends you to Ground Scarovich.
Side note, the Weapons Center was once the nuclear weapons center. After Eurasia crashed, instead of trying to rebuild the whole city, people decided to live in the crash site ruins.

Upon arriving at the Museum, you find High Max has gone missing. So you do some detective work yourself to find this “High Max.” You go to Another Route. High Max attempts to kill you but you win. You tell him Zero is missing and he tells you there was a scientist with a robot. You describe you saw a Reploid with a lab coat and High Max gasps. “No, it can’t be.” Hid myself. While. I repaired myself. He is the one who stole Zero... but Zero is a little grown up now.

Finding Gate, you hear about this laboratory, some place that makes fake Reploids, and no one likes the fake Reploids so they want to kill them all. You track him down by using Alia and she sniffs a robot cigar to find him, kill him, and guess what? Gate isn’t there. You find out Gate is apart of the laboratory and decide to get into the institutes. You track down an ex-institute Reploids and he lives in the Eurasia ruins. The place the colony hit. You sneak into his lab and discover he is a Maverick. He is the only intelligent Maverick in the whole entire series because he wasn’t fully angered or something like that. See, when Capcom writes their Mavericks, they have to be big dumb dumbs because having a complex background to all the Mavericks where some were smart, some were purple, and some were dumb, would be too interesting and hard to understand for the children that play this game. So Signas tells you how to get into the laboratory. You get all the materials and ask the only Reploid in the crash site to build a teleporter for you. You get into Gate's Laboratory.

After hearing all these horrible things about the Lab, some voice tells you that you may have hear horrible things about Reploids, but get this, they aren’t horrible. You are so mad that you want to Zero. You finally find him and he is in a prison cell. You yell at him and say it’s you. He doesn’t recognize you. Some Reploid walks in, shuts him down, and out of anger you shoot and kill this Reploid. Quest failed. You reload to an earlier save to hear what this man has to say. His name is Nightmare Zero and he says “No, I am Zero” he states that the Sigma Virus was just collateral damage.
This is probably some of the best story writing ever. Like how would we have known that Isoc was secretly a reincarnation of Wily!?! It’s just soooo good. After some of this stuff you can decide to do four things.

You have four options here. Either A) Zero seals himself away B) Zero seals himself away C) Zero seals himself away or D) Zero doesn't seal himself away. A lot of decisions I know. So depending on what options you do, either everyone will be happy, or everyone will be mad at you. You decide. After this, you get the iconic Mega Man X ending. Not the ending where a narrator reads out all the things you caused and how it affected others, but just a generic outro that is easy to digest. Unlike those other Mega Man games. Also I hid myself while I repaired myself..

The second half of the Mega Man X mainline series is, unfortunately, a letdown. Every game from X5 onward is controversial in its own way.

I don’t have much to say about the features of Legacy Collection 2 specifically—it’s the same as Legacy Collection 1, including Rookie Hunter mode. For some of the games in this collection, that mode is arguably essential.

X5 is my personal favorite in the X series, but I can see why others might not like it. The game introduces more slow-scrolling levels, frustrating bike-riding sections, and way too much in-level text. Alia, the side character, constantly interrupts with dialogue—sometimes for 20 lines—when you just want to keep playing.

What makes X5 my favorite, though, is Zero. He’s by far the most fun character to play in the entire X series. His abilities are even cooler than the ones he got in X4, and his gameplay is consistently enjoyable. On top of that, X5 was originally meant to be the last game in the series, and it feels like a natural conclusion.

Unfortunately, X6 through X8 are just not very good.

X6 is ridiculously unbalanced when it comes to difficulty. Even with Rookie Hunter mode, the levels feel more like chores than fun challenges.

X7 is widely considered one of the worst games ever, and it’s easy to see why. The idea of transitioning Mega Man into 3D was interesting (Capcom had experimented with 3D before in Mega Man Legends), but X7 fails at almost every level. The platforming is clunky, the lock-on system is annoying, combat doesn’t feel satisfying, and X isn’t even playable until way later in the game.

X8 is okay at best. The mechanics are a big improvement over X6 and X7, but the game still isn’t very fun. The ability to switch between X, Zero, and Axl on the fly is cool, though you can only pick two characters at a time. My main issues are that the music isn’t memorable, and the level design relies too much on gimmicks instead of the smooth 2D wall-clinging gameplay that defined the series up through X5. There’s even a fan-made 16-bit “demake” of X8 that’s a lot more enjoyable than the original game.

As much as I love Mega Man X5, I can’t recommend the X Legacy Collection 2 as a whole. Most, if not all of the games in this set have a controversial or outright negative reception for good reason. It’s nice that Capcom made these games playable, but overall, I just don’t think they’re worth your time.

Unlike XLC1, XLC2 will either offer you a challenging experience or a really awful one.

X5 is somewhat the same as X4 in terms of quality, however some things hold it back, the time limit, RNG, the 4 armor pieces, the parts system for instance, some levels like Duff McWhalen and Squid Adler (or Tidal Whale and Volt Kraken since they changed the names) are a drag.

X6 is, somewhat the same quality as X5 however it is much more difficult and frustrating, with the non-existant enemy variety, cheap deaths, inconsistent difficulty, permanently missable upgrades, etc. X6 is either a game you can have some enjoyment out of it, even if it's cheap or frustrating at times (like at the final 3 bosses) or a game you won't like at all.

X7 is, on the other hand, single-handedly the worst Mega Man game ever. Too slow, uninteresting levels, too boring, ugly, too easy, awful voice acting (despite having VAs of characters like Anna Williams, Raven and even Alucard?), bad story... I doubt a single thing is good about this game, it takes the worst of X6 and makes it unbearable.

X8 is a larger step-up to the previous 3 games, it handles the best, music is amazing, has decent bosses, but I think what holds this game back is the level design and graphics. Its levels are too linear and too gimmicky for me to properly enjoy, especially out of a MMX game. The graphics however could've been done some more work, I think if it had gotten cel-shading, it could've hold up much more.

If you can keep up with X6's bullshit, I'd say the only game here you'd have a bad time with is X7 since nothing about that game is good.

Button mapping resetting is still an issue with X5 and X6, although X7 and X8 don't suffer from that issue

i recommend this collection to the hardcore mmx fans reasons why is because x7 is horrible and x8 is okay the only two games on this disc that stand out is mega man x5 and mega man x6 which we all know how everyone feels about x6 but i happen to enjoy it the game has its issues but i still find it enjoyable to play with all the bad level design and (features) = (glitches) not as legacy collection 1 but its worth a shot for anyone into 2d platforming or grew up with the 8bit mega man

It doesn't matter to me what anyone says about the games in this collection. As long as it's Mega Man, I like it.

Blaze Heatnix and Blizzard Wolfang's levels in X6 are giving me a migraine, though.

Just emulate the games. X5 and X6 aren't very good without improvement projects by fans, which is incompatible with this. X7 is laughable and not worth even trying. And X8 is really really mixed, it gets pretty fun towards the end but the front half of it is a bit miserable honestly. Hardly worth the price of the whole collection to play, just get yourself a PS2 copy or emulate it. The entire collection is emulated, so the results range from detrimental to the experience to completely neutral, literally the only positive of the entire collection is upscaling X7 and X8, which, again, are a thing that's stock on literally any emulators. I always forget the X challenge even exists because barely any work was put into it and it's complete horse shit to trudge through every untouched, incompatible double battle. The museum is like. okay? I guess? And the Day of Sigma is pretty neat but is also a sort OVA for a reboot that isn't even in this collection and thus has weird plot beats that aren't even canon to the actual series spread across these collections, such as Dr. Cain's death. Pass. I could see usage for this on like, the Switch, because that's portable, but if you're getting this on PC you're throwing your money at absolutely nothing, because if your home setup can run all of these games in this collection, they can emulate them just as easily, and this collection offers nothing more than what you'd get using an emulator- hell, even less, as you can't play the fan revisions that fix up some of the shittier entries.

It's the Legacy Collection with the worse set of games. Worth it for X8 and catching up on the series, but otherwise the rest in this collection are just fine.
