Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic Adventure 2 trims a bit of the fat from the original Adventure, and while I enjoy it a lot I feel it might have gone a tiny bit too focused, which is why I prefer Adventure 1.

The music is fantastic as always for the series, the story is surprisingly dark for what's a game largely aimed at younger audiences, the chao garden and ranking systems add an excuse to replay stages beyond just beating your time and score, and there's no shortage of stuff you can do post-story if you're so inclined to get 100% completion.

Odds are if you're a Sonic fan you already know what you're getting into with Adventure 2, but if you're a Sonic fan that somehow hasn't played it yet you should absolutely get it.

A classic 3d platformer with an all timer soundtrack. Sonic and Shadow stages are peak with high speed adventures, multiple paths, and endlessly replayable. The mech stages are fun rail shooters with platforming, and the treasure hunt stages can be fun but sometimes frustrating. Multiplayer is fun too and the chao garden is iconic. Overall tho, a great experience with one of the best stories in the franchise that has held up years later.

A childhood favorite. One of the best games in the series before the self destruct button was hit on the franchise less than a decade later.

Without the community mods, this game would be borderline unplayable on PC.

Pros: Outstanding soundtrack, tons of content for 2 GBs, level desing with tons of paths,Choa Garden, And Sonic And Shadow stages are great.
Cons: Minor Glitches, Keyboard is bad instead use controller, and the treasure hunting stages are trash terrible and simply not fun to play.

I always see people praising this game and It made me want to play this game and it was great! I love the different play stayels

I loved this game so much as a kid. it has its flaws but theres alot of great design here. finishing the final mission is annoying only because of the hunter sections. but besides that this game is so playable and replayable after a first run threw its a fun game to push yourself and see if you can beat old times on stages

I always thought the poster in City Escape that says "Playing SA2 is habit forming" was a joke. It's not a joke.

its a nice game for people who want a challenge / want to fight in covertible mechs and if you want to play puzzles this is the game for you, so pick this 2001 classic and play it.

The camera barely works, the dialogue is barely auditable half of the time and it's comprised of either horribly translated Japanese dialogue or straight up not translated at all. The story makes little sense if you think about it for 2 seconds, you can so easily break this game in half, it is barely 3 hours long...

One of my favourite games of all time. 10/10, can always rely on this for a good time.

I grew up with this game and I still love it to this day. It isn't perfect, but I hold it very dear to me.

Yes, this game has its downsides. Yes, this game was made over 20 years ago. Yes, this game's Steam version is a little off because of it being a port of a port of a port of a Dreamcast game and needs mods to optimally function. But is it worth it?

YES.

I didn't get into the game when I originally bought it years ago - in fact, along with Adventure (DX), I regarded it as one of the worst Sonic games in the series. The controls felt off to me, the game wasn't perfectly smooth, and it felt like a 20 year old game, so I put it on the shelf never to touch it again. This was an incredibly bad move. Coming back a few years later, though? This game just CLICKED immediately. The gameplay felt more skill-based (and therefore felt way less janky the more I played), the story is definitely one of my favourites in the series, going for A-ranks is tough but satisfying, and all the little extra elements add a lot to the experience.

PLEASE get this game. It might take a little while and a couple mods for you to get it, but once it clicks, you'll find that Playing SA2 is Habit Forming.

I'm sure this game is alright when put in practice. But on PC it runs way too fast for me. I tried fixing it twice it was too much of a hassle and I ended up refunding it out of frustration sadly.

I've been a fan of this game since the early 2000s and had it on the Dreamcast and Gamecube when it was released. It's perfect for those who want to play sonic levels, and even perfect for those who enjoy a more relaxed game style, since it has the Chao Garden.

I come from the 2001 Gamecube era for this game. This was a childhood addiction for me, and while child me at the time didn't understand fully how to play the game, that never stopped me from playing it. I spent so much time (and years) playing this game, probably 300+hrs or more on the Gamecube version, and always found myself returning to it, even in my 30's (as of this review). It was also my very first Gamecube game alongside my brand new console ♥

Nostalgia aside: This game probably isn't for everyone. Newer fans (and probably even some older ones!) will probably not like how this game controls or how simple it is in comparison to the newer generation of Sonic games.
Looking back on this game with a fair outlook the only cons I can think for this game are
1) The mech stages are somewhat clunky controlling, even for the time it came out
2) Mad Space is such a horrible stage to figure out
3) Emerald radar sucks in comparison to SA1 (get the Better Radar Mod!!!)
4) The story is somewhat short feeling, even with 2 story lines available to play (3 after Hero and Dark are completed).
5) Replay-ability: I'll admit, this game does have an issue with replay-ability. Both of the main story modes can be completed within under an hour and the Last Story takes about as long.

The pros (and things I adore) for this game:
While SA1 was the first 3D attempt at a sonic game, SA2 (and latter SA2B) developed the mechanics further, rounding out the feeling of how the speed and hunting characters control, as well as introducing us to the mech gameplay. It also introduces to us two new characters to the franchise. Rouge and Shadow. We also were introduced to an improved system for the Chao worlds. I spent so much time raising the chao in SA2B. The Chao world was always a nice refresher from playing the game over and over again. Watching your Chao grow older and evolve is also such a satisfying thing to see!

While I mentioned the replay value can be rough, I always find myself returning to this game. SA2B has always been a great way to pass time or decompress when stressed out. The modding community has also done so much with this game that I'd even recommend it just because of how easy it is to get into modding! Overall, this game is more than worth the price on steam, for 50% off or even at full price, I highly recommend snagging it!

Classic title from childhood. The only issue that I encountered was that the cut-scenes are really buggy and I had to download a mod manager with a corresponding mod to fix the issue. Other than that, one of the few good Sonic games.

I actually can't decide if this is better than the first, but it's dire regardless. Eggman/Tails stages are the most fun as you can actually control them. This is despite the ear bleeding beeping that is transient throughout them. Otherwise this game has horrible controls, a terrible camera, a, unreliable lock-on system, awful level gimmicks, general glitches that cause you to just fall off the map and eat shit, and just an overarching sense of fragmented, weird game design. There is genuinely nothing going on for this game, and whereas the first is interesting for the technological leap, the cultural impact of this one is basically a load of memes (one of which being the idea that this game is somehow good). No, the soundtrack is not actually that good, and while the first game was still inflicted with the funk metal virus, it did have some quite charming melodies within. If you have no nostalgia for this game, it will not win any marks from you. I would sooner recommend Generations, but there are plenty of 3D Sonic games I haven't played/suffered through yet.

While it has certainly shown its age and has plenty of fundamental flaws, Sonic Adventure 2 is still a good game. The Adventure games are what I believe to have the best controlling Sonic, and to this day he controls better than any 3D game that has come after. While I do like the first game more, and consider Generations to be the best 3D Sonic game, Sonic Adventure 2 is still a worthy staple in Sonic's history. The game looks great for it's time, it has my favorite voice actors in the series, and just this epic feeling that no other game except maybe Unleashed has had. The sound mixing is horrible, the lip syncing is bad, I hate to soap shoes and all the extra gear the characters get, the treasure hunting stages can be tedious because of how they changed the radar system, and the mech stages are just horrible, but all in all, I still have fun playing this game every time I play it. The Sonic and Shadow stages are a blast, it has cool and varied level design, and the effort was clearly put in. I would love for both Adventure games to get the remake treatment at some point in time. And I wish Sonic would act like how he does in the Adventure games, a cool Adventure loving hedgehog with a teenage attitude. Also I miss when Robotnik was a villain, Tails wasn't useless, and Knuckles wasn't dumb. While it's not perfect, Sonic Adventure 2 remains a good game in my book, maybe not a great one but a good one still. 7/10

Its all about the Chao Garden. The rest is just sweet sweet additional content.

But honestly, its a rich game with fun characters and a helluva great soundtrack. The pacing can be odd, the overlap of voices can make for some funny and anticlimactic moments... and if people had an issue with 06's bugs, then I swear a blind eye has been cast on SA2 because you can launch yourself off a map no problem.

However, I'd say this game is timeless. It is fun, it gives a great insight into the characters, and there is a great cast of them too to play with. The overlap in stories is great and it gives for a fast paced, story heavy experience.

So if you want to traverse space, Egypt and destroy a city's worth of vehicles just to spot a giant purple cat, SA2 is worth the ride, there and back again.

This is a decent game that would have excellent remaster potential. I liked the story, the soundtrack, and the variety of characters and personalities as you play as throughout it. Where most sonic games would sideline the majority of characters, this one gives them each a purpose to the overall narrative of the story. The Chao Garden was a nice addition, one that I'm surprised has never returned.
My biggest complaints with the game were that the combat and controls could be a bit more polished, the camera angles can get you killed at times, and the level design can be misleading which results in a lot of unnecessary deaths. These issues become a lot more prevalent in the later game and with certain bosses. A lot of these issues are likely just a product of the time.

This is my most favorite Sonic game of all time, I do not care what anyone says. This game has such a nice nostalgic feel to it, the old design and textures, it has such an old charm. The designs for each character are iconic and still hold up to this day as some of the best designs for these characters. The level design is fun and intuitive, some are annoying and kinda bad, like the entirety of the Eggman and Tails levels. However, Knuckles and Rouge levels, while not fun for maybe the first 2 levels, become more enjoyable as you get used to it, you start to understand the mechanics of the 2 characters, and it isn't nearly as bad as the first time playing the levels. Sonic and Shadow levels are nothing short of masterpieces, the amazing mechanics incorporated into the items that you can get over time just improve the enjoyability of their levels. The story is some of the best writing the series has ever seen, back when Shadow wasn't an angry edge lord all the time and he had depth to his character, and feelings. Every element of this game make it more and more fun and enjoyable. Get it now.

i don’t care how “overrated” or “bad” ppl say this game is, i have SO much fun playing this game, i genuinely have never had so much fun with a game as i have with this one. SA2 has been and always will be an absolute JOY to play through no matter how much i play. the absolute childlike joy and whimsy i feel while playing this game is unmatched, even the anger i feel with some annoying mechanics about it cannot overcome the pure joy i feel about this game. this game truly deserves any and all praise it gets, i have never understood the hate this game gets it does not deserve the AMOUNT of hate it gets, sure criticism is valid but the hate SA2 gets is insane to me, besides the point though.
SA2 to me now is what Spyro The Dragon 1989 was to me as a kid, and that is the highest compliment i can give this game. sure there are better games in the sonic franchise but something about SA2 just hits different for me, i adore this game more than words can explain, no language in the any human lexicon can even BEGIN to express the love and adoration i have for SA2 and this game is one of if not my favourite game of all time.

I've come to make an announcement. I love this game. It's Sonic Adventure 2. Come on. One of the greatest sonic games ever created, if not THE greatest sonic game ever created. The story, the characters, the levels. Chef's kiss. It's not perfect, but nothing is. With the third movie and shadow generations almost here, this is a MUST for any fan. It's a must any day, really. Do it for the chao.

I get nostalgia is probably why people sing this games praises but considering I didn't exist until about 5 months after this game came out, I didn't exactly get to play it as a child, and trying to play this game as an adult is about as fun as slippery old movement and a barely functional camera can be... so not very, I got to Knuckles' second level and just didn't want to play anymore, Sonic will whip to the left or right if you even think about the Left Stick and Knuckles is just blindly flying around and hoping you find what you need, I think Tails' level is the only one I genuinely enjoyed because the camera and controls actually were bearable there

Some games do age pretty well but this just one isn't one of them

My favourite Sonic game of all time from my childhood, so many hours raising Chaos and playing the minigames.

The game has aged not so well when it comes to mechanics. However, it maintains a mostly fun gameplay style and lots of charm with it's art style.

Anyone who grew up on the game would still adore it, however, newcomers may have a difficult time adjusting.

One of the greats that i have a large soft spot for with a headbanging soundtrack.
