I got this forever ago but strongly recommend especially before they remove the game on December 6 2024 same for all the other games in the Dreamcast Collection. I hope Sega just makes an updated version for something like an ultimate collection, but nothing is certain.

This is, without a doubt, the second best 3D Sonic game ever created.

Installed game. Game ran at 500% speed. Game crashed but remained on in background despite restarting entire laptop. Game threatened to brick my computer.

This game was WAY better than I remembered. The story was so moving and the ending made me tear up. Shadow's story was so beautifully done.
To my understanding, this was intended to be the last Sonic game and you can tell that they put so much heart, passion and soul into this game and story, with so many different play styles and ideas in this game e.g. the Chao Garden (which I sinked half of my time into).
The Tails/Eggman mech levels are the only bad levels in this game, Knuckles/Rouge levels are fun (If you have the mod that enables all three radars at once) and Sonic/Shadow's levels are an absolute blast.
Sound mixing is absolutely horrible so I had to use a mod to control the volume to hear characters speak.
Music is amazing as usual and Crush 40's Live and Learn is a classic song that Sonic fans will remember for a long time to come.
In conclusion I highly recommend this Sonic game to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. Just make sure you use some mods to fix this broken port of the game lol

Honestly, it's no masterpiece. It's got its fair share of issues, bugs, and the voice acting is a mess.
But it's honestly got some pretty fantastic level designs and gameplay overall, a fun story (if a bit silly at times) and awesome characters. Recommend if you like Sonic in the slightest.
Classic 3D Sonic title. Logged hundreds of hours via consoles, it's a must-have for all format libraries in my opinion. Take that with a grain of salt though, since I'm biased (Grew up playing it)
Now its a great game in all but I couldn't play most of it because I wasn't able to click onto another monitor. When I clicked onto another monitor both of my monitors would turn off then turn back on. It would close out the game. But when I clicked on the game on my hot bar it did the same thing. Anyone know how to fix this?
Vibes are immaculate. Yes the gameplay is bad in many places but and the story is all over the place, but so much makes up for that. Honestly, I love the idea of this game more than the actual game itself, as I'm sure many others do. However, this is still a fun little adventure I'm revisiting since my childhood.
this game is super fun it is just like the other sonic games but the chao garden is the reason why its the best as its like a pet system which makes it more fun
What can I say about SA2? First of all, it's my favorite Sonic game, I believe it is the best Sonic game, and it's probably in my top 3 games of all time.
I do wonder how the game would come across if you've never played it before. It's definitely a bit dated and finicky in a lot of ways, and the character animations are a bit odd overall.
But, just, thematically, this is Sonic at its peak. And the gameplay lends itself to a lot of creativity and control despite not being the most polished. There is a reason they eventually switched to the boost formula because it's a lot less finicky for a high-speed game, but you'll find that the freedom of movement that SA2 affords has a lot of value of its own.
To be honest, if you've never played SA2 before, there's a decent chance you might not be a big fan of it going in. But I would greatly encourage you to give it a solid try because there's a reason this game is so highly regarded. It's the pinnacle of the series taking itself seriously and coming up with really interesting lore for itself.
Also, the Chao raising is really deep and fun and it's unbelievable that they've never really tried it again after this game.
Sonic adventure 2 is (in my opinion) the most overrated game of all time. I have zero nostalgia, and I played this back to back with sonic adventure 1 so i do not have any bias. After finishing SA1, I loved it. I loved how you could choose which character you wanted to experience the story and play as and you weren't forced to play as a character you didn't want to. In this game, however, there are only two story modes. The light story, and dark story. How it works is in the light story, it'll start with sonic, then the next stage will be knuckles, and the stage after that will be tails. Rinse and repeat. This doesn't seem bad at first, but all Tails' gameplay is, is controlling a robot that is very slow and can shoot things. It is basically a "spam X" simulator and is very boring. Knuckles on the other hand, you just look for pieces of the Master Emerald around a map they give you. You have an alert that pops up when you are near an emerald piece. This can get really tedious and just isn't fun to play. You could argue knuckles was like this in SA1, which he was, however you weren't forced to play as him to complete the main story. I liked how in SA1 Tails... was just Tails. There was no robot he was controlling. They should've kept that. The dark story, is a re-skin of the light story but with new levels. You get to play as Shadow, Eggman, and Rouge instead of Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails. Shadow controls just like sonic, Eggman controls in a robot with the same function as Tails, and Rouge is looking for pieces of the master emerald like Knuckles. All of the criticisms above apply to the dark story as well. I do like the story though and once you finish the light and dark story the final level is decently interesting. Overall this game was very disappointing because I was expecting it to be better than SA1 because I have heard people rave about this. I do enjoy the sonic and shadow levels though. Very unfortunate.

This game did not age well, but it brought us Shadow the Hedgehog. Some of the best music in the franchise is in this game. Get a quality of life mod and this game is golden.
One of the better Sonic games only gripe is the clunky old gen controls but honestly just get use to it.
I'm surprised I never wrote anything for this game. It was my first Steam purchase, and this is also my all-time favorite video game. For as much as I don't care for the shooting stages or the treasure hunting stages, both are still enjoyable because the action on the shooting stages are great, in edition to the awesome music, the treasure hunting stages are still fast paced and again, have stellar music. but it's the speed stages where this game shines. From seamlessly transitioning from running to hitting enemies to grinding on rails to hitting tricks and getting bonus points, this game feels like an endless hit of dopamine. I remember an old Tamashii Hiroka vid where she said "This game is like singing along to a favorite song and hitting all the notes perfectly" and I couldn't agree more. No game has as much replay value and endless joy for me. This game is what made me enjoy video games as a past time for the past 20 years, and the steam release with its ease of mod installation is easily the best release of the game.
I love this game it has a lot of problems but it's still great the Chao garden is one of the best features in any game they should bring back the Chao's or make it a stand alone game.

Still an amazing adventure game with cool level design, compelling story, and awesome soundtrack.
its a very good game, but use mods since sega (with SOME games. no hate sega ilu) is sometimes bad at porting, or you can just play this without mods, its still alright
Always kind of thought this game was just average until I went for 100%. I went for 100% as a joke mostly but ended up really enjoying my time. So that being said this review will be written from that perspective.
This game demands perfection of every mechanic and attribute in every level and sub-mode but that's the fun of it. Playing a level over and over to get an A-Rank and finally achieving it is one of the greatest feelings I've felt in any game in a long time.
As well as raising a Chao up to be an absolute God in every activity you throw them in is super fun and you feel like a proud parent once you've seen them accomplish all their activities.
Only gripe I had with this game was the very dated camera system. Which you can't really complain much considering the Dreamcast didn't have a second analog stick. But for the re-release a proper camera would have been very appreciated. Also had a lot of collision and random small issues while playing which for sure bogged down the experience overall.
At the end of the day though I would still recommend this game. Fun campaign, fun side-modes, and a 100% journey that will have you giving levels your all like your life depends on it.
i recommend it but it doesnt run that well. after about 45 mins of playing it starts to stutter so badly that you have to reset steam or even the whole computer to get it to run smoothly again. also you need a controlled. they keyboard controls are impossible.
Sonic Adventure 2 is a genuine classic and I would not have it either other way! This game is a classic of its own and a even better experience modded! Just make sure to get the battle DLC for the best chao garden experience.
I haven't beaten it yet, but so far it is amazing. I only have 3 complaints. First of all, the difficulty spike can be really annoying, especially on stage 10. Second of all, there are a few bugs that make the game way harder. Sometimes after you die, the game takes you back the the main menu screen, where you have to restart the entire level. If you jump onto a platform, sometimes you'll clip through the platform. These bugs make it very frustrating. And finally, the camera angles are awful. They can be all over the place and make it really difficult to tell where you're going. Other than those issues, it's a wonderful game that I definitely recommend.
Sonic Adventure 2 trims a bit of the fat from the original Adventure, and while I enjoy it a lot I feel it might have gone a tiny bit too focused, which is why I prefer Adventure 1.
The music is fantastic as always for the series, the story is surprisingly dark for what's a game largely aimed at younger audiences, the chao garden and ranking systems add an excuse to replay stages beyond just beating your time and score, and there's no shortage of stuff you can do post-story if you're so inclined to get 100% completion.
Odds are if you're a Sonic fan you already know what you're getting into with Adventure 2, but if you're a Sonic fan that somehow hasn't played it yet you should absolutely get it.

A classic 3d platformer with an all timer soundtrack. Sonic and Shadow stages are peak with high speed adventures, multiple paths, and endlessly replayable. The mech stages are fun rail shooters with platforming, and the treasure hunt stages can be fun but sometimes frustrating. Multiplayer is fun too and the chao garden is iconic. Overall tho, a great experience with one of the best stories in the franchise that has held up years later.
A childhood favorite. One of the best games in the series before the self destruct button was hit on the franchise less than a decade later.
Without the community mods, this game would be borderline unplayable on PC.

Pros: Outstanding soundtrack, tons of content for 2 GBs, level desing with tons of paths,Choa Garden, And Sonic And Shadow stages are great.
Cons: Minor Glitches, Keyboard is bad instead use controller, and the treasure hunting stages are trash terrible and simply not fun to play.
I always see people praising this game and It made me want to play this game and it was great! I love the different play stayels
I loved this game so much as a kid. it has its flaws but theres alot of great design here. finishing the final mission is annoying only because of the hunter sections. but besides that this game is so playable and replayable after a first run threw its a fun game to push yourself and see if you can beat old times on stages

I always thought the poster in City Escape that says "Playing SA2 is habit forming" was a joke. It's not a joke.
its a nice game for people who want a challenge / want to fight in covertible mechs and if you want to play puzzles this is the game for you, so pick this 2001 classic and play it.
