Hate how this game controls (mech levels especially), but love the story and chao garden
Would recommend this game for the story alone, it's so serious and intense for a sonic game I love it
also it has shadow and rouge in it and they're actually characterised well!
music is amazing as always (the treasure hunting levels have amazing bgms)

Might genuienly be my favorite Sonic game, by far the best story and gameplay is great....but good lord the knuckles stages drag this game down. However I have to admit the game is showing its age but much less then the first adventure game, get mods is my advice, game is much better that way 9/10

Great and fun game with a good story. However this port can be extremely buggy. Some levels like Final Chase are really annoying. If you get this game, use sa mod loader.
Blue Hedgehog go fast in game. Mad Space drives me Mad. Great Game. Highly recommended if you like 3D platformers or classics or if you are a sonic fan. Also you can buy dlc to get Sonic Adventure 2 battle features. Great Music as well. Okay Graphics but the gameplay is what counts. Way Past Cool.
Very nostalgic, doesn't play as well without a gamecube controller, prone to glitches, but definitely the best vanilla chao garden, though mods can improve it greatly. One glitch to note is saplings wont grow in this port, so please fix that (who am I kidding...) So basically, good for nostalgia, but not a good port, Highly recommend gamecube version.

60 fps godd og graphics lets u play with ps5 xbox but works with pro controler but it only lets u move thats it
This game is a huge part of my childhood ive spend hours messing around in the chao garden, getting every A rank in the game and fighting my cousin in the 2 player battle mode so much memories I had to this great game
tails controls terrible, just a warning. other than that the story makes sense, the gameplay is good and this is one of if not THE best sonic game.
This game improves on a lot of aspects compared to its predecessor. The chao garden has been expanded and refined. It has a more focused story and introduces Shadow who is one of the best Sonic characters. The speed stages are more fun and the mech stages are more chaotic. However, I dont like that in the treasure hunting stages you can only search for one shard at a time. This game also removes the hub world. Which was one of my favorite aspects from SA1. Other than that I think the game is great and a must play for Sonic fans.
This game good! Though I would say theres some things I preferred in the first game, it is a generally more polished package and overall a really fun experience
A few things of note for new players and anyone coming from the first game.
Swapping between different gameplay styles was a major thing to get used to. One thing I liked about SADX was that, while the other gameplay styles weren't as much fun as sonic's, I knew what I was getting myself into when I sat down to play. Sometimes in this game I was a bit bummed when I wanted to progress through the story, but I had to get through a treasure hunting or mech stage rather than the incredibly fun sonic and shadow stages. However I do acknowledge that this was done due to dev restraints and to tell a more cohesive story, only splitting it up between Hero and Dark rather than all 6 stories in the first game, and this game definitely succeeds at that.
There are also some other gameplay quirks that, while they aren't game breaking, can hurt the experience a little, I would recommend modding the game to fix these even if its your first playthrough. Grab the SA mod manager and turn on the "reduce spin dash delay" code, as it makes the spin dash feel much more responsive, more similar to the first game. I would also recommend the "Better Radar" mod to make the treasure hunting stages a little less frustrating. If you're someone who thinks life counters are outdated like myself, feel free to pick the infinite lives code as well.
This is also a port of a port of a port, so there have been some graphical bugs introduced from that. If you want to fix thes I'd recommend "SA2 Render fix". I also have "cutscene revamp" but I'm unsure whether that's outdated now as there are some conflicts between these, so check with the experts on that.
I really loved this game, its shocking to me that it took me this long to get into sonic because the characters and gameplay are really fun and I'm always trying to replay to get better times. The story itself is also quite fun, its clear they really wanted to up the stakes and the introduction of shadow really shaped the franchise going forwards, I love this guy.
Despite my rocky first impressions coming right from SADX, I feel like this game really proved itself to me with its banger finale. While SADX's ending felt like it's style didn't entirely make up for its lack of substance, I feel like SA2's absolutely did with a bit more substance and a HELL of alot more style, I felt hyped the whole way through with that iconic song, and it felt like the epic culmination of the whole story. No spoilers though!
Though it did take me a while to beat... just FYI if you're getting stuck on Knuckles' section in final story like I was, I'm pretty sure you're required to grab the Air Necklace in a previous stage, they don't tell you that lol but you can always replay stages so its not a major issue.
With all that said, get this game!
Hi, if you wanna play with mods, it might be best to avoid 7 Zip, I don't know anything about the creator or program, the creator is Russian so just be mindful, don't know if it's secure, or if programs can get misused there.
If you wanna play the game and can play it with another program and mods, I recommend it.
If there's another way to mod it, feel free to let me know.
Sonic Adventure 2 is an amazing game and I love it a lot with all my heart... I would recommend this game to new players... or anybody, this game made me want to play all other sonic games because of how alluring it is and how fun it is
SA2 is an amazing game for its time. The port is kinda eh, really wish it had better controls. Overall solid game for sonic fans, but I wouldn't recommend the steam port.

It's not really my thing, the camera controls are a bit better then SA1. But i don't really like the physics. (Also i played with mods, like 98% of the time.) I'm just rating the vanilla experience.
This is one of my favorite Sonic games in the series. The music is awesome, the story is really great, the graphics are really cool and run very well, the cut scenes and voice acting are improved, and the Sonic and Shadow levels are extremely replayable and genuinely fantastic. Only minor grips I have with this squeal are the collision problems and horrible tails' levels that do bring the game down for me a notch. But overall, it's still an amazing video game that has a ton of heart and passion put into it.
Being completely honest, this port is complete ass. So if you want something that you can just download and play, then just move on tbh. BUT if you're willing to mod the game to fix the issues with this port (namely input control among so many other), then holy shiiiiii this game is awesome.
Admittedly, I think most people will only LOVE 1/3 of the game, like/bear another 1/3, and probably hate/dislike the other 1/3. BUT THAT 1/3 (Sonic & Shadow parts) IS SOOOOOO GOOD BRO.

You better get this before SEGA delists it. Get the Sonic Adventure Mod Mananger and SA2 Render Fix and Input Controls and you'll be good to go. Don't forget to purchase the Battle DLC, too.
You can play as Metal Sonic in the Sonic/Shadow stages by using Test Spawn in the mod manager, which is a bonus for me, personally.
This game was really fun! I could do without the Knuckles levels though. They're not bad per say they're just annoying :P The story in this game is so good!! I absolutely love Shadow's backstory, so dramatic and fitting for him. Lots of iconic moments and songs too! I had a great experience playing overall. :D p.s. I love how the character's audio in cutscenes overlaps with each other and makes them cut other characters off. I'm sure it wasn't intended to do that but it's hilarious XD p.s.s. I love the Chao Garden! <3

I don't really like Sonic Adventure the original, I haven't even finished Sonic's storyline, here I actually finished both campaigns and had fun all the way through, it's a great platformer and one of Sonic's best games.

Played this game during my childhood and the last time I played it was years and years ago. I can no longer play the copy I played back then so bought this one on sale.
This game is hard and kinda bullshit. It asks you to control a bunch of characters with weird physics and janky mechanics. It doesn't teach you most of the nuances that make basic movement feel good and you sorta just have to intuit how the game is supposed to be played. It has frequent gameplay moments where it throws enemies and obstacles at you that you couldn't possibly react to before hand, requiring trial and error and memorization if you don't want to get hit. And finally, the game gives you a letter grade based on your performance, with the implication that the game expects you to play it perfectly.
And I love the game for that. It has the sensibilities of a 90s arcade game, which is an aspect I sorely miss in games of all sorts
literally the best Sonic game in the history of the franchise just beat the hero story and am moving on to the dark story!

This game is very fun and challanging, all the characters are very cool however I dont like he levels were you are searching for gems as knuckles

Best Sonic game ever made. It has a compelling story that follows multiple characters as well as point of views (hero and dark). That all leads up to a final story that ties it in together very well. It's side mode, the Chao Garden is the best side content in any sonic game to date. You get to raise them and evolve them to you liking. Once mature you can then mate them to continue the cycle. All missions have various goals to achieve, so the game has a lot of replayability. It's the origin story of Shadow as well as the point of establishing Eggman and Dr. Robotnik as two different people. Best 3-D sonic game in the market until they make Sonic Adventures 3.
Good game.
But, several bugs and problems with gameplay. not gonna list them, you can find them in 20 minutes.
Also, knuckles/rouge stages are NOT fun.
Unplayable on my PC. Crashes during the start up sequence and does not detect my controller input. Even after following th troubleshooting I could not fix it. Refunded :/

I got this forever ago but strongly recommend especially before they remove the game on December 6 2024 same for all the other games in the Dreamcast Collection. I hope Sega just makes an updated version for something like an ultimate collection, but nothing is certain.

an excellent sonic game. fantastic story, good characters and an amazing soundtrack ripped straight from the mid 2000. highly recommend this game.
It could take a bit to get used to some of the controls of the game, and the REALLY not great cutscenes. but when it clicks, it clicks. and you'll be in for one of the best 3d platformers of its time
