Levels are repetitive and same-y. Even though there are 30 or so levels, almost all of them are nearly the same. When aiming for 3 stars in every level, later levels become very frustrating and trial & error. You will fall or otherwise be launched into a new section, not be able to react in time and you'll miss a dupling with no way of going back, forcing you to replay the whole level again. This is all made worse by bad controls that frequently drop your inputs and enemies that are sometimes practically impossible to avoid. Lastly, for completionism purposes, the "rarest" achivements either require extreme grinding or are bugged & might not unlock (much of them don't for me).
It's just not worth it.
I'm finishing this game because I'm stubborn, but its not enjoyable. Half the time the buttons don't work, I keep getting stuck on random moving things, or get flung into the air suddenly. The game also randomly decides to reset the turn I've set for the world which messes with my progress. It is extremely frustrating and I have to force myself to keep playing this game and I would have already dropped it if it wasn't too late to return it.
Fat. Round. Cat.
you have to rotate the camera to facilitate movement, so the game makes me a little motion-sick
fun game, other than that.
I rate The Big Journey 3/5. OK. This is an extremely cute, platformer styled, side-scrolling adventure game which appears to be a loose imitation of LocoRoco except with a focus on really, really cute cats. Unfortunately, while extremely cute, The Big Journey isn’t nearly as inventive as LocoRoco, its music isn’t as good and its loose, somewhat unresponsive controls cause it to be frustrating and repetitive in places. As a little bit of this game goes a long way, I found it best to play it in short bursts. Even so, The Big Journey is a fairly short game, taking me just over 2 hours to play through all the main levels (though it does have much harder, frustrating bonus “Wonderland” levels, most of which I have not yet played). Even though it’s only 5 USD, if you get this game, get it during a special steam sale…and, like me, you better really, really, REALLY like cute cartoon cats.
+ Extremely cute artistic cartoon style throughout. Even the insects are really cute. The sum-total cuteness is what makes this game worthwhile.
+/- The music is okay but it could have been better. There were several melodies which could have been developed far more but weren’t.
- The controls can be difficult. They feel soft and floaty, well suited to the furry cat-ball you control but this also causes the controls to lack precision. It’s best to play this game with an extremely laid-back attitude.
- Very nonsensical story with only a single disappointing, irritating ending, severely lacking in emotional CATharsis.
- As you progress through each level you can get items to make your character slightly bigger but doing so doesn’t seem to drastically change how the game handles or plays.
- Given how truly cute this game’s artistry is, I’d like to see more steam profile backgrounds, emoticons, chat animations, etc. to go with this game. Currently it has none of this extra stuff.
My daughter Loves it, wonderful colors, nice mechanics, and brilliant atmosphere.
A cute and charming game with adorable animals. Originally I bought this game because it reminded me of a game I used to play in my childhood called "Sushi cat" and I was surprised and delighted to see that the developers have added a custom skin in the game as a tribute to that game.
But saying that, this game has some problems. Some of the level designs are frustrating, the music is repetitive and a couple of achievements are straight up broken. It is a real shame that the developers don't really spend time to fix these issues, because otherwise it would be a great little game.
This is by far one of my favorite platformer games that I get to happily roll around, nom on some dumplings, boop evil monsters, and meet some quirky animals for achievements ❀ I adore the extra colorful environment of each level & get excited for the next map! If you get motion sickness easily, be prepared if you buy this game. It was definitely a grind to get 100% but I loved every minute of it ❀
I personally got the game in a package with games i actually wanted to play. I tried this one and stayed to achievement hunt. Overall, the graphics are cute and the game is quite decent for children but the controls are horrible and the camera movement gives me nausea. Two of the achievements pretty much require a full replay of the game...
Cute cat game, nice graphics & music but my god the controls are terrible (and the tilting screen might make you motion sick).
This is definitely LocoRoco but as a cat, gave me SO much nostalgia when my sibling introduced it to me, I played it as a kid when the PSP was around. I played this on Switch cause they had it on their device. I absolutely missed this style so much. This game as a successor is a 7/10. I still haven't finished the game, so I might change the rating it if I get back to it.
There's a lot of mobile games that turns out fun on a PC port, but sadly, not this one.
This is a super fun game on the mobile no doubt, but bear in mind that it's built for the mobile devices with a gyro-controller. Means, you tilt your phone to play this game. But on the PC, when it comes to tilting the screen itself, it's nothing but nauseating experience... really, if you can easily get dizzy from screen shaking and screen tilting, stay away from this game. Get it on the mobile instead!
I love this game, I streamed it in a semi speed run. Such a nice little game. I did buy it during the Steam Winter Sale so it was like 49p for me but even still the £3.99 is worth it, It's very PikuNiku like in the feel of the game and it makes you work for it as the camera directions are based on how you jump.
The added bit of fun of tripping out on catnip by accident puts in that level of stress just needed when you're trying to complete for map stars.
A lot of people are saying its a kids game and focuses on children but i beg to differ, I think its got that cutesy animation and artwork to draw in not only children but adults and the sound track is just right. It is such a soothing backing track to something that can cause you any levels of stress!
Mr Whiskers is a chunky boi and I love him.
Hats off to the Devs, I really enjoyed this game and I'll certainly replay it as well.
I love this game.
Suitable for all ages and skill levels.
I didn't encounter any bugs, glitches, or technical difficulties.
Cute, fun, and a bit challenging.
a mobile-style game starring a blobby cat who loves dumplings, features an in-game instagram-style picture taking function that gives amusing quotes. it's very nice on the eyes and very cute and has funny writing but it's not a very deep game, i would recommend getting it on a sale if possible.
The game starts out all nice and cute and the levels are easy.
Later on the levels become harder, but not because it requires skill (it does, but not that much). They become harder because of the numerous bugs, like:
- Falling through the map
- Getting stuck between an airflow and two platforms
- Candies that drop outside of the map after getting hit, forcing to restart the level in some cases
- not being able to jump, even when perfectly standing still
- Game forgets in certain situations that you were pressing left or right (mostly right)
- Physics seems to be inconsistent when using jumpers/jelly/plants
All this made the game less and less enjoyable over time.
Also, the last adventure level seems impossible to finish with 3 stars because of lacking light thingies... This is not required to get 100% of the achievements though.
Pro tip: If you're stuck on an achievement, check the discussions. There are bugs involving achievements as well.
Cute, Adorable, Short, Cartoon art, these are the thoughts that will rush to your mind as you play The Big Journey.
The thicc cat character whose rolls around collecting dumplings and other resources, reminds me early days of PSP era and game LocoRoco back in 2006.
Where you play as yellow ball character, rotate map to make your ball roll and listen the happy melodies the map sings for you.
Personal note: Played previously Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Final score: 7/10
First impression: sweet little casual platformer
It has just 3 controls: you can tilt the level left or right (keys AD or gamepad triggers), you can jump, and you can take pictures (for catstagram achievements!). With that, your cat rolls through the levels, collecting bugs and dumplings and woodland creature friends.
From what I've seen so far (5 levels), The Big Journey is quite well-made, but not groundbreaking.
I bought it at 90% off, and wold've paid more without regret.
Simple and funny game featuing cats. Relaxing at first, a bit challenging later, you roll a cat around platforms trying to get as many bugs and candies as possible. There're some puzzles and hidden areas as a bonus. Physics and game mechanics are good, stages are well drawn and the overall feeling is enjoyment.
Only drawback, some stages need multiple takes to get 100% bugs from hidden areas, some may find that tiresome.
Verdict: Enjoyed it much, i think you might do too. [8/10]
So cute! Mr. Whiskers, a round kitty loves all types of food, but dumplings are his favorite. Unfortunately, Mr. Choo, maker of dumplings goes missing. Brave kitty goes on an adventure to find him and eat some tasty treats along the way. Tilt the world to roll around, explore beautiful levels and meet new friends. ❤️
If you're looking for a clone for LocoRoco this is almost it. Very similar game, very similar elements, but unfortunately a poorer version of the original.
I love most of the soundtracks in this game, I love the fact that the protagonist is a kitty, and that everything is all very cute.
But level design has major flaws when compared to LocoRoco, levels don't seem to flow as well, "secrets" are not very well hidden and sometimes almost unattainable due to the way levels are built. Also sometimes the game doesn't register controls-input, so when repressing the button the world actually does turn further even though before it wouldn't turn anymore.
All in all a very fun game, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have played LocoRoco extensively back in the day on your PSP (fond fond memories)
When I first stumbled upon this game, I was immediately floored. I could tell right away that it was clearly inspired by the Loco Roco games, and being a childhood fan of them, my nostalgia meters skyrocketed. Upon the first time playing it, I was having a blast, It was so similar, and so cute. However, as I kept playing through more and more of the game, my entertainment from it was draining.
My main issue that I have with The Big Journey, is that it never changes throughout any of the levels. Even through each 6 biomes, all of the levels barely felt any different from eachother. The same patterns were present, theres only about 5 enemies, and you'll only ever see 2 of them for the majority of the time. The game has secret areas, but they are all so blatantly obvious that finding them gives no sense of achievement for finding them all. The game almost never feels like it changes, except for the wonderland stages, which seems to be unfinished and/or just thrown in to pad out the amount of levels even more. While playing through the levels, each felt like I was trudging through the same thing again for a long time, even though the levels are only usually 2.5 to 4 minutes long, even getting every dumpling and bug that you can find. And it definitely doesn't help that the game's soundtrack sounds almost entirely the same throughout, and the same tracks will repeat over and over, slowly getting on your nerves.
Is the game cute? Yes, I admit, it's adorable, good job to whoever designed the visuals.
Is the music good? If you're listening to it for the first time, sure.
Is the gameplay rewarding and progressive? Hardly.
All in all, if you're eyeing this game up because you got a nostalgia craving for something Loco Roco-ish, do NOT get this game. It's storybook-like visuals hardly make up for how flat the level design and gameplay is.
