Hidden Objects - Around the World in 80 Days is a hidden object game developed and published by Crisp App Studio. In the first half of the game, you take on the role of Phileaus Fogg (yes, the main character from Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days) who takes on a bet that he, along with his valet Passepartout, can travel around the globe in 80 days. (Thus, the name of this game. XD) However, in the second half, you take on the role of Detective Fix, who pursues Fogg because he believes that Fogg is the one who robbed the Bank of England and is using the bet as an excuse to escape justice.

As for the gameplay, you're presented with scenes from various countries, like France and China, and you're given a list of items to find. Also, there's a hint system that takes time to recharge after you use it along with a clue system if you need a hint as to what an object looks like. In addition, a few scenes are spot-the-differences where you have to find 10 differences between scenes. Depending on how quickly and accurately you find all of the objects or differences, you can earn up to 3 stars per scene. There are the usual Steam achievements, which count towards a user's global total, along with Steam trading cards.

Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my thoughts. Occasionally, I enjoy a fun, short HOG and Hidden Objects - Around the World in 80 Days is definitely that kind of game. First, I enjoyed the story, especially that it's based on a book with the same name. Although I am familiar with the story, I've never gotten a chance to read the actual source material, which I should rectify one of these days. XD It's fun getting to follow Fogg and Passepartout as they travel to various countries and explore their surroundings. It's even more fun in the second half when I got to follow Detective Fix as he follows Fogg and Passepartout's trail, convinced that Fogg is a criminal. However, the story ends abruptly, with no definitive conclusion. Even though I know how the book version ends, I would have loved to have seen that ending in this game, too.

Regarding the gameplay, I found it to be pretty fun and simple. Initially, I didn't like that the game would run in full screen mode, but simply pressing Alt and Enter changes it to windowed mode. Still, it would have been nice if there was such an option available in game. Getting back to the game itself, finding the objects was easy for me once I knew what I was looking for. The objects always stay in the same place, so replayability to earn 3 stars is very doable. Obtaining all of the Steam achievements was quite easy as well.

Commenting on the art, I like how realistic the scenes look. They almost feel like photographs, and they depict the year of 1872 quite well. The objects can appear to be a bit small if you play on windowed mode, but fortunately, there's a zoom in and out function, so you can find objects more easily. As for the music, there's a variety of tracks, and each track fits very well with the location it's placed in. While Paris has that more cultured, refined tone, Istanbul has a faster, exciting beat. The tracks are great and fun to listen to.

Overall, would I recommend Hidden Objects - Around the World in 80 Days? If you like hidden object games and are looking for a short one to play, then this one is worth taking a look. At the asking price, I'd suggest waiting for a bit of a sale, as it took me fewer than two hours to complete the game, which includes earning 3 stars for each scene and obtaining all of the achievements. However, it's worth getting, and it's in a few Steam bundles. ^^

This is one of many hidden object games available on Steam. There is a story that is very loosely based on Around the World in 80 Days, but it doesn't add anything to the game. You search for hidden objects (and, on one occasion, try to find the differences between two scenes) with Phileas Fogg and Passepartout in 20 different locations/rounds. This is followed by hidden objects (and one "find the differences" round) in the same 20 locations featuring Fix, the detective who is on their trail. Again, there's not much to the story, and there's no great resolution upon the completion of the game. There are diverse locations and music, but the music doesn't always match the location, and it seemed like it needed some compression at times as there was some distortion in it; this is just a minor issue that may not bother other players.

I stretched my time in the game out a bit by achieving a personal goal of earning three stars (for a high score that meets a certain criteria) on all 40 levels, but this is definitely not a necessity for reaching 100% achievements. It is necessary to complete all 40 levels to earn the "Winner" achievement, and this may be tedious for some people based on what I have read in other reviews. I had to replay all of the levels at least once to earn three stars on each of them since getting a high score requires finding the hidden objects in rapid succession for bonuses; this is a necessity for a certain amount of levels (definitely a total that is much less than 40) if you want to earn the "Superman" achievement, which is the hardest one in the game. There was no way I was going to find all of the hidden objects in any given level quickly enough to meet the criteria for earning three stars in just one attempt, and it's important to have a vague idea of where you found the hidden objects during your previous attempt(s) if you intend to do well in a replay of that level. The "Superman" achievement is definitely not an unattainable goal if you have a decent memory and some patience.

It is hard for me not to recommend a game if there were no technical difficulties and it at least gave me a little enjoyment; that was definitely the case here. This isn't an incredibly expensive game (I was able to purchase it for less than a dollar when it was on sale some time ago, but full price is still very reasonable), and it's important to have realistic expectations. It may not be the pinnacle of the hidden object game genre, but it is enjoyable enough if you are looking for something of that nature (especially in short sessions).

Great game with atmospheric music, beautiful animation and interesting characters! This is a fun hidden object game based on Jules Verne's classic novel Around the World in 80 days. The best game based on the book, in my opinion.

Pros:

- Stunning and detailed, realistic animation.

- Wide variety of levels in finding hidden objects.

- A touching, exciting and amusing story with likeable, humorous characters. You get to play from Passepartout's point of view and the viewpoint of the police officer chasing Passepartout and Phineas Fogg. What I really like about this game is that it actually portrays Passepartout sympathetically, and show him as kind and capable, like in the book.

- Many gorgeous locations from around the world.

- Beautiful and relaxing classical and modern electronic music. There's songs with singing (no lyrics) and instrumental songs with instruments and no singing. I enjoyed how there's so many songs from different parts of the world. The music adds to the atmosphere of the game, and is one of its main highlights.

- English subtitles are in readable, medium size font with good grammar.

- Sound is adjustable in the menu section.

- You can look for different objects in the same levels as you progress through the story.

Cons:

- one minor con, some objects can be difficult to find. But this is not a big problem as you can use the hint button to find objects, or zoom in to find small objects easily.

Highly recommended!

This only cost $3.39, so why do I feel so ripped off?

I mean, it's a hidden object game. The bar for qualifying is pretty low. Still, the writing was abysmal and added nothing to the game, the puzzles weren't that well implemented, it was very short (about 2.5 hrs), and just in general not a whole lot of fun. I think it'd be better to pay a bit more to get a better game.

Played it completely through, with all the achievements, in 2.2 hours. That alone made it worth the few bucks for me. That being said, it's overly simplistic, practically no-frills (although there were a few spot the differences puzzles thrown in for good measure). If you really need that hidden object game itch scratched, there are definitely better options out there, especially if you prefer a well-crafted narrative, but it's cheap and isn't buggy (these days that's worthy of note, so genuine kudos to the developers on that one).

A very unusual game that sends you on a trip around the world around the world, and it copes with it very well. Because during the game you get the feeling that you are in a different location altogether, and the musical accompaniment only makes this effect stronger. I highly recommend this the game, at least for new and unusual sensations

This one is boring, repetitive and overall badly done hidden object game. No real plot here, the visuals are sloppy, the puzzles are stereotype for the genre and lacks any originality.
Also, it has very little to do with the actual novel.
Maybe it could be a satisfactory product for a tablet. Maybe it shouldn't get even there.

A very challenging object finder game. I found the game quite difficult as all the objects were perfectly blended into the background and some of the clues were quite vague. The speech bubbles moved quite quickly and was often difficult to understand the actual plot line. Otherwise it was very enjoyable, an easy and user friendly layout. I recommend if you like a casual pace but challenging object finder game.

Boring. I love HOGs and this is just a let down. I want story-rich and plot driven. This is like a digital version of Highlights kids magazine.

Wonderful game, coaches attention to unobtrusive music. A lot of objects that are cleverly disguised as interior, the game completely absorbs the attention. I would like better textures and translucent dialogues of the characters, but this is in my aesthetic view.

Newbie to Hidden objects, but gosh, is that it? I paid for this game and 5 hours into it and I have mastered finding things I already found! Was very disappointed when it just kept cycling through stuff I already did. I know, I'm new to the hidden object games, but gosh, I don't think I'll do anymore after this one.

Worst HOG I have ever played. Feels like a cheap App Port. Literally any other HOG game is better - which is a pity because the subject matter is great.

Save your cash and get something really good like one of the Lost Lands series or something like that.

The Adventures of two Englishmen. Very well made hidden object game based on Jules Verne novel of the same name.
Game play is very challenging. You lose money if you click on too many of the wrong items. Music is based on where you are in the game. Some of it is even quite catchy. Good graphics for a hidden object game. I give this game two thumbs up.

Of course, there are a lot of different hidden object games around, but this one is special because its built on Jules Verne books and heroes! Have you ever read Jules Verne? If yes, this is enough for you to try the game, if no - imagine a game set in the 18th century, where every level shows a different world, as globalization didn't yet even start and Egypt was totally different from United Kingdom :)

Hidden Object Adventure: Around the World in 80 Days is a 100% H.O.G. (Hidden Objects Game).
You'll play very classic H.O.S. (Hidden Objects Scenes) such as scenes where you need to find hidden objects listed by name OR silhouette hidden objects. You'll also play a couple (or so) of "spotting the differences between 2 pics" games, which is nice for a change.
I didn't count how many stages/scenes there were to beat the game, I think I went through 40 or 50 scenes maybe (depicting all around the world places : London, Russia, Egypt, Turkey, Amazonia, even Persia if I recall.. amongst many others). I noticed visiting some of them twice (but not right after, only far later in the game and looking for different objects so it was not inconvenient).
There's no deep or detailed background story, it's pure H.O.S after H.O.S. There are some dialogue lines (to read) between Phileas Fog, the famous Vernes' character from Around the World in 80 days novel and his legendary fellow Passepartout, but since there were no voice acting or anything animated, I didn't pay much attention to the plot in question in this game.
If you like scratching your head for long minutes, if screening during hours is what you're looking for, then this game is definitely for you.
Some hidden objects might be hard to spot since objects are very well implemented in the scenes and sometimes quite wisely hidden !
Of course you can still use the hint button. I usually don't like using hints in games because it's less fun, but I really had to a couple of times or so, since I was desperate staring at the scene, unable to find the last object i was supposed to click on, before moving to the next stage.
Some HO scenes felt really strange, I noticed strange stuffs such as a monkey riding a boar, a dead cat lying on the ground or 2 goats kissing.. Sometimes it felt so creepy that I'm not sure I would let a young child playing this game for I found some images to be disturbing.

You'll have to go through a lot of pixel hunting since H.O.S. are not always easy to complete. The scenes are very detailed and there are a lot of objects which are sometimes so weird/baffling that it takes time to focus on what you're searching for.
Be aware that you can zoom in in the various scenes (middle mouse button). It's a big help.. provided you know it ! (I found it randomly).

Some musics were funny to some extent but maybe a bit repetitive. Others were rather calm, not disturbing and others I didn't like, too noisy. At least the soundtrack is eclectic.


To achievement hunters :
3 out of 5 achievements are quite easy and quick to get.
You'll need more patience for the last two but they are not hard to get eventually. One of them requires to beat some record times but it's not that hard, specially since you can play the same scene over and over again if you wish so to improve your score.
You'll get the last achievement by the end of the game (which is not hard to beat, even though some scenes are so well prepared that some objects may seem impossible to find).


I encountered a tiny trouble with the langage (game wouldn't launch in the language I had chosen by right-clicking on the game from my Steam Library). I asked the dev about that in the discussion topics. He gave me a quick answer which helped me solve this problem right away. That's very much appreciated !

Considering the low price I strongly recommend it to all H.O.S. lovers.
