Beautiful. From the visuals to the game-play itself, so much thought went into this game. Really hits hard, if you happen to be playing while going through a rough time. Can see myself replaying this time and time again. 10/10.
What an emotional experience. I have heard many great reviews about this, but experiencing by myself was something else. No matter how broken I feel, there is always a small part of me that is always moving forward to bring back the colours to me. Poetic. Tears were shed.
Gris is a very short and simple platformer that tells the story of a girl and her personal journey through pain and sorrow after a personal loss. Every level is dedicated to a particular mental state and feeling, which are beautifully conveyed thanks to a gorgeous graphical hand drawn style and an impeccable soundtrack.
This is more a work of art than a videogame, but nonetheless I was very happy to experience it in my 7 hours playthrough. Don't expect to be challenged by enemy foes or by intricate levels and puzzles, just launch it and enjoy the ride! 7/10 is my personal score!
Platformer with some fun gimmicks that's overall mostly an art project. Without a doubt great visuals and very well done music. This very well could've been a film instead but I'd say its gameplay is serviceable with how there was effort to implement to the music and visuals to gameplay or story beats.
Beautiful visuals, a compelling soundtrack, but man was I completely disengaged with the story and the game play. The way the story was told simply wasn't my cup of tea, and the game play annoyed me in many sections. I can see why so many people love this game- I wanted to be one of them, but this just wasn't for me.
I will never cease to be emotionally moved by this game. I play it every time I have to move through something in my life. It's a replay winner year after year. Just buy it. You'll die happy like I have.
GRIS is worth playing once. The game is beautiful, and the platforming/puzzles are entertaining enough after you get through the somewhat plodding opening.
Despite my hour count (which is inflated, for reasons mostly unrelated to the game itself), you should expect a short game without much replay value. There are secrets and collectibles, none especially difficult to find, but GRIS does not give you much room to explore or backtrack. The biggest obstacle to your collecting a secret is often that you've gone slightly too far forward, and are unable to go back. Between this, and the relatively slow movement of the titular Gris, the novelty of the game starts to fall flat when you go secret-hunting on a second playthrough.
But if you go in expecting a ~3 hour piece of visual art, you won't be disappointed.
Amazing storytelling without using a single word. Beautiful scenery and audio.
Visual & audio masterpiece. It is a platformer, but not one where precise inputs are needed. It is, rather, a casual adventure filled with symbolism. You must play it.
I'm afraid I must come down on the side of the people who say this project would have worked better as an animated film. As a game it does not have much actual gameplay, and what gameplay it has is repetitive and at times frustrating. I must confess that I was not even that impressed with it visually; it has only a limited number of visual motifs that it keeps repeating over and over with slightly different color palettes. It's an attractive game but I was not nearly as wowed by it as I expected based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews.
Also, it is not as easy to 100% this game as you might think. Some of the achievements are very annoying and a bit buggy, based on my own experience as well as what others have reported in the forums. If you are thinking of playing this game for achievement hunting purposes then I do not recommend it.
SHORT
A game without words that will leave you speechless. GRIS is beautiful with a sublime soundtrack. It's totally worth it! The total duration is 5 hours (9 hours for completionists). To get the best experience, follow these tips: turn off the screen's night mode, get a good pair of headphones, put away your smartphone, collect all the Mementos and enjoy.
LONG
GRIS is a 2D platform game, designed to be atmospheric and contemplative. The game has no dialogue (spoken, written or narrated), the entire story is told through gameplay and supported by the fantastic soundtrack - which in my opinion, is the most incredible part of this game.
Scattered in secret areas of the levels are Mementos, collectible glowing orbs. When you collect them all, an additional cutscene is unlocked at the end of the game. It's totally worth it! They're not that hard to collect - consult a guide if you need it.
The game is heavily based on colors and music, I recommend that you disable the night mode on your display (if you use it) to experience the colors without any alterations. And also use a good headset.
The difficulty level is low and the game is quite forgiving with mistakes. It took me 5 hours to finish it (plus 4 hours to get the remaining achievements). That said, I recommend that you put your smartphone away and take some time to enjoy this game free from distractions, it will be worth it. :)
This is one of those games that just kind of washes over you as you play it. The art style, the music, the story--the whole thing.
Sit back, relax, and don't worry about winning. Just enjoy the journey.
This was beautiful.
I would consider Gris a masterclass on artistic vision, audio/music design, and symbolistic storytelling.
This brought me near to tears several times with how emotional the music and experience was. While the playthrough overall is somewhat short, I would say that it fits the concept perfectly. My time spent on this title totaled 6.1 hours, including going back and revisiting chapters to get the other achievements. The main story itself will only take maybe a little over 3.5 hours.
As the description states, Gris is about a girl dealing with a painful experience, and is navigating a world in which she traverses by obtaining new abilities that morph and change her dress, granting her new tools to navigate the areas you visit. What really shines about this is that each new ability grants a new mechanic for you to use, building upon layers that expand on themselves and grow the world in doing so. This is the strongest, and most core foundational aspect of the tale. Every new use of the dress gives a different way to interact as you progress, and these never fall off later into the title keeping it engaging and presenting opportunities for the player to think about how they can approach differing situations and environments. As far as actual gameplay goes, Gris entails light platforming puzzle solving that primarily revolve around utilizing movement to solve blockers to progression. These elements previously are incorporated and combined to work in tandem to create a seamless and engaging experience.
Visually, Gris is an aesthetically delightful and gorgeous piece of media. Vibrant colors mesh together and morph the world alongside of changes with the dress, creating new additions to not only the reality itself, but the color palette as well. These work well together, and operate hand in hand in crafting the player’s adventure.
The music was phenomenal, and adds just the right impact on those crucial parts of the story. Incredible composition, and wonderfully implemented for the design and structure that was laid out.
There is no dialogue, as the tale is told entirely through music and symbolism. Enough is revealed to give the player a rough idea of what is going on, but not so much as to give it to them point blank.
Overall, I give Gris a 5/5. A combination of various key aspects of great storytelling and thematic design craft it to be a thrilling experience, start to finish. While I do think you could, and should, pick this up at any price, I recommend waiting for a sale as $15 can be a little steep depending on what you expect to get out of this.
Gris is a deeply poignant and emotionally resonant experience, a game that found me at a time when I needed it most. At its core, it tells the story of a heartbroken young woman named Gris, who, having lost her voice, wanders through a desolate, fractured world with no clear sense of direction or purpose. Through this beautifully minimalist world, Gris slowly learns new abilities, overcoming obstacles and, ultimately, finding her purpose.
What struck me most about this game is how it uses its art and gameplay to explore the profound themes of grief and loss. The game's transition from a muted, colourless environment to one filled with vibrant hues mirrors Gris’s emotional journey. Each new colour she discovers reflects a step forward in her healing, a reminder that even in the most colourless of worlds, there is potential for renewal and hope.
This metaphor for grief, coping, and emotional growth is realised so subtly and gracefully. As Gris progresses through the levels, I found myself reflecting on my own experiences with grief, realising how life often feels like a struggle through barren landscapes before we can begin to find the light. The game’s pace is meditative, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the process of discovery and emotional processing.
The animation is exceptional. Every frame of the game feels like a work of art, with the smooth transitions and fluid movements of the character adding to the emotional depth of the experience. The artistry is not just for show; it serves to deepen the narrative, making each visual element meaningful. The design of the levels themselves acts as a canvas, displaying some of the most stunning and evocative visuals I’ve encountered in a game.
Gris is not just a game; it is an emotional journey that resonates on a deeply personal level. It helped me navigate my own grief, offering a silent yet profound form of solace, reminding me that emotions are to be embraced, and that healing can come in the most unexpected forms. This is a game that is as much about the journey within as it is about the exploration of its world.
When the game itself is more important to game developer than the money.
This is short but pure art. An unforgettable experience with brilliant music and extraordinary beauty with smooth and unique gameplay.
This is everything we want from a game company.
A short games with a nice sound choices. Overall a chill game to play during rain.
This was the most satisfying experience I had in a long time. Very deep story with a beautiful meaning. I love the ending so very much and for the first time ever I cried in a video game. 11/10
Thank you so much for GRIS. I was in my worst condition while playing this game, and it made me realize something important: everything that happens in life will always make us stronger and more resilient.
GRIS is no longer just a game, but rather a work of art, a feast for the ears and eyes. I really love the level design and soundtrack in the game, and I particularly enjoy using the main character's singing ability to affect the gameplay.
This is a masterpiece, a captivating blend of stunning visuals, evocative sounds, and a deeply moving narrative. Capturing a frame is like acquiring a breathtaking piece of art.
Hue Review After 100% Achievements on Steam 🎨✨
When the world finally fills with color and every detail comes to life, you realize Hue is not just a puzzle game—it’s an artistic journey that transcends the screen and touches your soul.
Reaching 100% achievements in Hue felt like painting a gray chapter of my life with vibrant strokes of meaning. Exploring colors wasn’t just about solving puzzles; it was about understanding that life becomes whole when you dare to see every shade—even the challenging grays.
The puzzles in Hue aren’t just obstacles; they’re clever messages inviting you to think outside the box—or maybe inside the color wheel. Every achievement felt like completing a masterpiece, and every challenge brought me closer to an ending that speaks in silent poetry.
Final Thoughts after 100% Completion:
Visuals: A creative blend of simplicity and beauty.
Soundtrack: A gentle story whispered to your ears, reminding you that even silence has its own music.
Puzzles: Smart, engaging, and sometimes "confusing in the most beautiful way."
Story: Like reading a colorful letter from someone teaching you how to see life in its fullest palette.
In short, Hue is not just a game—it’s an art piece that reminds you "seeing life in color isn’t just a choice, it’s a journey."
I achieved 100%, but it feels like I gained more than just accomplishments—I gained a small lesson about life. 🎮🌈
GRIS is a game that immediately appeals with its aesthetics. Each scene is done in a gorgeous watercolor style, with delicate animation, which makes it very beautiful. The musical accompaniment perfectly conveys the emotions and enhances the immersive effect. The theme of coping with loss is conveyed subtly and respectfully.
However, the external beauty hides some shortcomings. The gameplay itself may seem too simple: the puzzles are intuitive and uncomplicated, and the levels are linear. Those who are used to dynamic games, the project may seem boring. The repetitiveness of some mechanics also reduces the overall dynamics. However, at the end, the game in terms of mechanics can pleasantly surprise.
The game is clearly focused on emotional experience rather than complex gameplay. For those looking for a primarily visual and musical experience, GRIS will be a pleasant discovery. However, fans of challenging platformers should evaluate their expectations before purchasing.
I am currently replaying this game. I was first introduced to it about six months ago, and it didn't really impress me at the time. However, I now realize that this work should be viewed more as art than as an ordinary game.
The theme of overcoming grief is a bit predictable and doesn't feel original at all. Great level design in the last 2 areas though and I would recommend this game 100% for the discounted price of 2-3$.
its cozy and cute
with profound music and texture
every thing in thsi game is related to story and everyone of them is beautiful
so i love this game and its story line and what it want to convey to player
every thing is awesome
GRIS is a really beautiful game with some colored levels, a cozy ambiant and some nice designs. I recommend it!!! 💗💗💗
Gris perfectly encapsulates the feelings of grief. The numbness and black and white feeling of denial. The speed and aggression of anger. The panic and chaos of Bargaining, and the deep dark depths of depression.
But Gris also shows that these feelings aren't everything. The little moments where you help someone, or someone helps you. Those moments that keep you going every day, little by little. That faint light of hope.
Gris may not be a game for everyone, but it is a work of art. With thought provoking puzzles, cinematic and emotional storytelling, and some of the most beautiful hand drawn and watercolor animations.
Thank you Gris

Very pretty game.
However, boring puzzles (are they puzzles?). Mechanism occasionally frustrating. Sometimes the game lets you see a alternative path when you drop down but there is no way back; you can only get it by the second run. That is a cunning way to nudge people to play the second time that I cannot agree with. Games should stop doing that.
Basically feels like an interactive painting. It does have some puzzles and some platforming, but not enough to really feel that challenging. Very pretty, with a vague but nice narrative!
A captivating story filled with pretty colors, enchanting music and simple platforming puzzles.
A feast for the eyes and ears. The platforming elements were sometimes a little frustrating, but that's a very minor complaint. It's not something with a straightforward story, but it uses its visuals to still get you to feel all the emotions its reaching for, and the culminating moment of the game comes together very well.
it looks great and the music is okay, that's about it.
the story, platforming and puzzles are all well below average
if this game resonated with you, then that's wonderful
it didn't resonate with me
Just so gorgeous - every department is 12/10.
I played this with a constant smile on my face and was regularly saying "That's so delightful" about every little thing that happened.
Such a minimal, short game had no right to move me like it did. I love it.
Изначально я не любитель подобного рода игр, но данное произведение помогла справиться с моих недугом - игровой импотенцией
Так же хочется отметить приятный визуальный стиль, прекрасное музыкальное сопровождение на ряду с простыми механиками и душевным повествованием
The game's art direction is great. Music and presentation are really beautiful. But the gameplay just isn't present enough for me to care to continue to play after I realized that I had managed to miss a light orb by choosing the wrong direction and was unable to backtrack. Beauty and frustration aren't a good mix.
A beautifully animated walking simulator without any actual gameplay. Approximately 80-90% of the "gameplay" consists of walking. I had hoped it would get better given the great reviews, but it does not.
I only paid $2 and I still regret not refunding this.
PROS:
-Gorgeous animation
-Peaceful soundtrack
NEUTRALS:
-Character moves a bit slow especially considering the only thing you do is walk
CONS:
-Not a game. All you do is walk.
-No actual game mechanics besides turning to a stone.
-No plot. There are a few very vague scenes where you see a statue or something equally pointless. I think the game is trying to tell a story, but there is just nothing there. Why is color gone? Why is it returning? Honestly, who cares?
-No level design
-No platforming elements
-No map / unclear where to go at times
This had been on my wishlist for years and I'm glad I finally bought it. While not a challenging game, Gris is a piece of playable art. The art and music do a fantastic job of setting the mood for each area. Interpreting the story through the 5 stages (of grief) was sad, beautiful and deeply rewarding. Getting 100% achievement gives more insight to the story and is not difficult either.
The Ultimate Wallpaper Generator!
Definitely the most beautiful game I've ever played. Every frame of the game can be used as a wallpaper and the music is something that you can't get enough of. I love the fact that the game doesn't tell you anything and leaves everything to exploration. The puzzles are simple but works great in this setting. Can't recommend it enough for platform games enthusiasts.
I'm going to play through it again because I need some new wallpapers.. :)
This game is so impressive..I love how the creators of the game wanted to deliver this internal conflict through paintings and soundtrack..and both are delivered so well.... the visuals and the soundtrack from the beginning to the end of the game were perfectly harmonious and beautiful .. I took 70 screenshot XD .. and I'll listen to the whole album it was really a great and well related to the levels and the events
SO IT WILL BE FOR ME an unforgettable experience
(because of the music )
The riddles were good.. you have to take your time to figure some of them out ( they are easy )but don't ruin the riddles and the game by watching them on YouTube ..solving riddles and passing levels in general must give you a great feeling ( I discovered that when I played half life).. after you finish the game you can go to the YouTube if you are interested in the achievements ..
Get the game when it's on sale for 1.6$ ... get your hot drink.. sit on your bed or desk and enjoy this little and beautiful journey..
Very short, but emotional and beautiful game. I dare even say that calling it a game is an understatement, as GRIS is a pure defenition of art. Music is so beautiful that at some segments I got goosebumps, and each frame of this game is without a doubt a background wallpaper material.
It's a journey worth experiencing for yourself, not watching any walkthroughs. Trust me, it's really worth it.
GRIS is a freaking beautifulll game!!!!!!!!!
The art and colours are like something out of a dream...
The music omggggg it fits perfectly with the mood, that calm music just cured my ADHD..
The puzzles are simple, and never feel frustrating just the right amount of challenge...
Ik it’s a short experience, but ik it's always gonna be a memorable game....
It’s amazing what a small team can create when they focus on making something this beautiful and meaningful...
Would play this game again <3
Looks and sounds great but i dont find the gameplay fun at all.
Its more an intractive artwork than a game.
Gris is a cute little artsy fartsy game. It doesn't have a ton of gameplay, more just a few puzzles, you really just play through this for the experience and aesthetic. If you aren't into the idea of "art as a game" then I'd probably pass on this. The presentation really is one of a kind and the music compliments the journey perfectly. For what it's worth, I don't regret paying in the price of admission.
Beautiful visuals and music, but really boring with non-existent gameplay beside walking and jumping...
It's beautiful, but I was bored. A lot of people really like it though, so I dunno, give it a shot. But I've played for a few hours and I don't think it's gonna evolve into a different game that really grabs my interest.
played for about an hour although the world is interesting and the art style is great overall its just meh the music for this game should be impact-ful but feels bland. The game play although smooth is extremely slow and boring there is no real story to the game just a theme which is fine ive played countless games like that, but this one does not interest me like those others did. 2.5/5 not great in my mind but it did help put me to sleep on multiple occasions.
Well now I get to have a controversial take. Before I begin I'll preface by saying that no, I don't hate the developers nor hate the game and that it's very possible I just don't get it and I'll like Neva more. I strongly suspect that Gris wasn't made for an people like myself. Intellectually I'm tracking with the metaphors they're using here but emotionally the game isn't resonating with me, and this is from somebody who typically enjoys games that mingle difficult subjects into the gameplay and make you feel it viscerally (Outer Wilds is an incredible example of this, and I won't elaborate further). I'm also not critical of the music, sound design, art, and animations of the game either which were all great.
So. Why don't I recommend it then? Ultimately my two main problems boil down to the gameplay being boring, and the story being so lost in metaphor that it forgets to ground itself in something relatable.
Gameplay wise, there's no new or interesting ground being tread here - this is about as standard a puzzle platformer as you'll get and it is not meant to be challenging. There were a few moments where I thought "That's the solution? Okay then." and moved right along, as opposed to recent experience in another puzzler recently (Talos Principle 2) was "Oh! That's a very clever puzzle, that was fun". That coupled with being a 2-3 hr long game, there's not much to write about here, especially with the first hour of that not being terribly engaging because you are still unlocking the things that will make it interesting.
Critiquing the story and message is where I'm going to dig in because that is where the game's focus clearly is. Ultimately, In my opinion the complexity of navigating human emotions and the reasons why somebody may choose to try to escape the prison of their own depression and walk through the stages of grief are deeply individual. Therefore if you lose the complex personality of the person walking through it you lose the point of connection needed for many people to really get immersed in the story. I can relate to characters who have personality because I can see what they're going through and relate it to my own life, and will frequently respond with deep emotions of my own and sit and think about them if not cry if they hit me in just the right place. Perhaps this is why so many people love this game but I do not, the metaphors used to express depression and grief aren't enough for me to cling onto to understand the character and thus relate her experiences and trials to my own life and begin to live out the story as if I were in her shoes. It didn't get that deep for me because she wasn't given a personality or history outside of "something is wrong with her". It is the *blend* of the good and beautiful things with the bad and ugly things that creates the texture needed for me to understand a character, and I didn't have enough traction with Gris to understand her and the story.
If you're confused by the review then that's okay, I don't mind that other people like this game and I understand how somebody could like it. But if you're like me and you need a character with personality to latch onto then maybe consider playing other games first. But if you have $15 and 3 hours to burn then I don't think you're losing anything of lasting value to see if this is a favorite, you do you folks. Thanks for reading.
Absolutely beautiful~ (Spoilers)
I loved it in terms of artstyle and music. Art is rlly pretty and main selling point of this game , also it's great at showing beautiful nature in the game , I couldn't find a place where I didn't say "wow that's pretty". Music is also just amazing to listen , calming and sang by a super talented person.
Speaking of nature , at first I thought story is simple about nature being beautiful yet at the same time destructive but after getting the secret cutscene , I understood it's a story about a trauma and our protagonist not wanting to let go but in the end accepting it and moving on.
Gameplay wise , it's a simple platformer with some unique mechanics like singing , turning into cube and double jump/hover. It's simple but it's good like this.
I rlly love it in terms of style but could expand on gameplay 8,5/10.
I bought Gris a while ago and let it exist in my library, untouched but not forgotten. I didn't know when I'd play it, but I kept it installed all the same.
Today, I woke to bad news, and the day only became darker and weightier from there. I cried. I tried to process my emotions. And I loaded Gris for the first time. This is exactly the experience I needed. I felt each emotion along this game's journey, and it became a wonderful way to process my own emotions. I make it through the game in just under 5 hours, and this is a beautiful game. It reminds me of Journey in so many ways, but where Journey felt grand, Gris felt really personal.
Rather than explain all the ways this game is amazing, I encourage you to make your way through it when you're ready and to know the controls, the pacing, and the challenge are all intuitive. You're going to be okay ♥
FANTASTIC visuals with FANTASTIC theme musics.
Didn't bore me even for a second.
Pure Art.
