I got this for free and I want my money back
Protect Me is another Unity asset flip from the Russian asset flip scammers, Bitlock Studio/cBlck/whatever other aliases and sockpuppet accounts they like to use to mislead gamers. This time they've ripped off a basic 2D retro pixel wave survival game where you control two characters, one must avoid and the other can attack the waves of monsters coming in (hence the "Protect Me" title). There's no real depth or interest in the game, it's shallow as you would expect from an asset pack/demo.
Bitlock Studio/LillyWelland inc. have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:
- "Agross" = Agricola Unity developed by Michael Kasprzyk
- "TacTikk" = Make An Assassins Board Game in Unity developed by Wilmer Lin
- "Pixelfence" = Pixel Tower Defense Prototype developed by Kirill Nadezhdin

Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. That's right, only 2. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is to be expected. Gamers just didn't take this low quality game seriously, and for good reason.
It's also important to note the "developer" here has connections to a number of shady Russian asset flippers and review manipulators who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers puts your money at risk.
Protect Me is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.
There are no options or instructions. You start the game and the crows attack you from all sides.
First I thought that I only controlled the big guy with the sword. But then I saw the trailer and the druid moved too. So here I go trying keys to see what happens, and I understood, the druid is controlled with the keys. So there you go: big guy with the mouse, druid with the keys.
In theory it sounds interesting, but its just too confusing and frustrating. It's like playing a multiplayer game solo.
And there's really not much polish, this looks like a simple tech demo used to showcase one gameplay mechanic.
It's okayish, but not that okay.
protect your time
6/10
chill and good if you just want to relax, or work on hand and mouse work.
just bad
Having stupidly not read the "About this game" section on the Store page, at first i thought this was a fairly simple and therefore potentially boring game. Man was i wrong. As soon as i discovered that i could control the character i was trying to protect, the game took on a whole new turn!
Due to the lack of instruction in game, it took me a few goes before i realised that i had to move both characters but when i did the game just got more and more enjoyable (and difficult).
Controlling the knight with my mouse and the mage(?) with my keyboard! Brilliant idea.
The downsides?
- It could really do with a volume control
- Some simple instructions would be great
- It feels like it could do with a death animation for the enemies
- a bit more character animation in general
Otherwise i think this is totally worth the £1.69 it's being sold for.
8/10
It's a very simple looking game but much harder and enjoyable than you might think.
