I'm not familiar with the original, sadly, but as a game itself, that was quite fun and interesting adventure. Characters are interesting and fun to listen, the surroundings are beautiful and the amount of content that can be missable is quite large. That can be a flaw, but I can't deny, that is a neccecary stimulus to play it again, even if not right after the first one. And the whole retrofuturistic style is just chef's kiss. So yeah, highly recommend.
Nice story and gameplay. Very relaxing. Solaris next please
This is a story-driven game.
Without giving much away, you are an astronaut-scientist who is on a martian planet trying to understand the surroundings. The story is the focus of this game and you interact with things along the journey. Controls are pretty simple.
If you're looking for a break from intense action and would rather get swept along for a ride, then you'll enjoy this. The artwork is unique, blends together different themes. Voice acting is excellent in my opinion. They did a good job of making the player feel immersed in the game.
The game flows effortlessly from start to finish, so it probably makes sense to knock it out in a short time frame -- like a couple days. And it's not terribly long, but despite me completing the game, I only have unlocked 50% achievements -- so there might be more to this I'm missing, which means I'll probably play again out of curiosity.
A beautifully crafted combination of an astronomical walking simulator and an interactable visual novel, one that pays great tribute to the sci-fi genre through and through.
It's a bit slow burn for a game, but the atmosphere and plot alone make The Invincible an undeniably worthwhile experience.
I haven't read the book but the game was really interesting. It kept me guessing what was going to be discovered next and really leaves you wanting to know more. I was pretty satisfied with my ending too, would recommend.
It's actually visual novel so be aware of this.
Perfect game for every SF fan and must play for every person who love Stanislaw Lem's books.
I have Lem's The Invicible on my shelf and i have to admit game is brilliant with vibe and atmosphere.
(In the book The Invicible stays not defeated once again because of staff's open minds. And it's not usual for humans. I'd love rather to have game like this on Fiasco btw ;) )
It is a little rough around the edges and has some bugs and optimization issues but It's a fun interesting story otherwise
Fantastic game, great story. Highly engaging, love the comic supporting the story and allowing you to recall what happened when you reopen the game. Impressed with the voice acting too.
It's beyond a story like game because I felt connected and it was so relaxing. It's a very chill game and even tho I would have loved a more understanding, I'm still gonna recommend it !
beautiful game and great story
Firewatch in spaaaace. Jokes aside this is a beautiful game and totally not what I was expecting. It definitely feels like you're in a novel and the loneliness can feel quite real. The visuals are beautiful and the Atompunk style is spot on. But most importantly, the story is absolutely captivating and makes you want to finish it.
Really wanted to like this one, but a walking-simulator style game lives or dies by the quality of the writing, and this writing is mostly pedantic, occasionally good, and often nonsensical. I found myself ignoring the prompt to choose dialogue options because I was tired of listening to the bad script. The environmental work is lovely, as is the music and sound effects. Some texture issues, but nothing game breaking. If they could only have had better writers, this might have been a truly exceptional game. Oh well.
The Invincible: A Sublime Journey into the Golden Age of Sci-Fi
The Invincible is a game that defies modern trends in the best possible way. In a landscape dominated by spectacle, it dares to slow things down—inviting players into a meditative, atmospheric odyssey that pays homage to the works of polish author Stanisław Lem. Based on his novel of the same name, this is a story-driven experience that doesn’t just adapt its source material—it becomes part of it.
From the first moments on the hauntingly desolate planet Regis III, The Invincible distinguishes itself with its evocative 1950s retro-futuristic aesthetic. The attention to detail is nothing short of masterful: every control panel, every bulky computer interface, every piece of machinery feels plucked from the golden era of speculative fiction. The visual design isn't just style—it’s substance. It reinforces the tone of the game: one of awe, mystery, and quiet dread.
Gameplay-wise, The Invincible is a slow burn. It won’t be for everyone—and it never tries to be. It takes time to draw you in, to unfold its story in carefully measured beats. But for those willing to be patient, the payoff is remarkable. The narrative is gripping and cerebral, challenging the player with philosophical undertones and meaningful choices. There’s a surprising amount of agency for a game often labeled a “walking sim.” The decisions you make ripple outward, subtly shifting the narrative in ways that warrant a second (or even third) playthrough.
The voice acting is strong, with well-delivered lines that carry emotional weight, although the sound editing isn’t always ideal—dialogue sometimes feels slightly drowned out by sound effects. A small adjustment (I found lowering the master and SFX volume by about 10%) can remedy this and allow the nuanced performances to shine through. There were also a couple of instances of graphical stutter during autosaves and chapter transitions—minor, but noticeable.
Yet, none of these technical hiccups can take away from the overarching experience. This is storytelling elevated to an art form. The game doesn’t hand you its ideas—it invites you to contemplate them. Life, sentience, the unknown—it all simmers beneath the surface. It’s not a game you play so much as one you inhabit.
What’s truly impressive is that this entire experience was brought to life by a newer small developer studio—Starward Industries, a talented team of Polish professionals who clearly understood both the source material and the soul of classic science fiction. They’ve managed to do what many big-budget studios can’t: tell a meaningful, respectful, and immersive story without compromise.
Clocking in at a relatively short runtime, The Invincible doesn't overstay its welcome. Instead, it lingers in your mind long after the credits roll. It’s an experience that rewards curiosity and critical thought, and one that especially resonates with fans of Lem’s work or classic sci-fi literature in general.
In an age of remakes and reboots, The Invincible stands out—not because it’s trying to be different, but because it’s committed to being true. True to its source, true to its era, and true to the spirit of science fiction as a vessel for big ideas. For those willing to slow down and listen, it’s a sublime journey. Highly recommended.
Nice story game. Short but sufficient I would say. I suggest to read a book before :)
Very well executed story game. Next to Bramble: the mountain king this is one of my favourites. Maybe because I have read the book; the world really draws me in. There isnt much in terms of gameplay but that is not what this game is about. Call it walking sim but I love that they didnt force gameplay elements in for the sake of it.
Story, characters, writing is all excellent which seems to be a rare thing nowadays, especially in hollywood... Stays faithful to the original work as well. A bonus is that it runs well and looks and sounds simply fantastic.
Endings are kinda hit and miss, would have loved it to just be more in general.
Overall a definitive yes if you are into these kinds of games.
I hate to say it, but The Invincible really left me feeling kind of meh. I went in excited, hoping for something along the lines of Firewatch, a gripping story with great atmosphere and a sense of exploration, but it just didn’t hit the mark at all for me.
The visuals and music were solid. I’ve got to give credit where it’s due, most things looked looked nice, and the soundtrack really helped set the tone. The voice acting, too, was fantastic. The cast did a great job, and honestly, it’s probably what kept me going for as long as I did.
But here’s the thing the gameplay was so... empty. There wasn’t a single puzzle or challenge to sink my teeth into. I felt like I was just walking through one monotonous area after another, barely interacting with the world around me. It got repetitive fast, and I was left craving some kind of engagement. Firewatch had me thinking and feeling. The Invincible just kind of had me going through the motions and wanting to finish the game as fast as possible so i can start something else.
I kept telling myself, Okay, there’s gotta be a moment where things pick up, but besides the story, I didn’t get that sense of satisfaction I was hoping for. There was nothing that made me feel like, Yes, this is why I’m playing. Honestly, I had to force myself to keep playing just to see if anything would change. Spoiler: it didn’t.
It’s not that The Invincible is bad, there’s potential there, and the story itself isn’t awful. But as a whole, it just didn’t deliver the kind of immersive experience I was hoping for. In the end, I felt like I was trudging through it more than actually enjoying it.
So for me overall the game was not great and i can't recommend it. the game also didn't do well in performance either, had some regular lag spikes and the faces of the NPC looked blurry no matter how i changed the settings. Playing on RTX3080 for reference, it should not look this way.
Stunning interactive sci‑fi narrative with simple gameplay and captivating story
If you like this genre, go for it. Very atmospheric, great visual style and audio design. Some choices influence your playthrough. I enjoyed every minute of it and the game made me read the novel by Stanislav Lem afterwards.
Fun story based game with lots of suspense. If you like classic sci-fi you'll absolutely love this game. The gameplay is just exploration / talking but the environment and suspense trying to figure out what's happening keeps you going.
Sci-fi walking simulator with a decent story.
Its a short game, that you will be done with in a day or two. Based on how much you play.
Cool game / walking simulator. I am not sure if its fair calling it a walking simulator because you do more than just walk. You drive, you fly drones, you control some guns at one point. But it's not an FPS.
The underlying story is quite good from Lem: a bit slow to get started, but very original and gets more interesting the closer you get to the end.
Has 11 different endings based on different choices and the endings are VERY different... that said, the game is really too linear to justify playing it more than once or twice. you'll probably end up replaying the very end and doing things differently at the very end to get a few different endings and then just watch the rest on YouTube.
Solid Sci-Fi Game, get it for 20 bucks on sale and you'll be happy. I finished it in about 7 hours. I sorta feels like watching a good sci-fi mini-series.
Oh and no woke bullshit.
This game has some very beautiful visuals. The soundtrack and voice acting are particularly worth noting as well. Probably the greatest part about this game is the very compelling story. You should play this game if you enjoyed Firewatch.
A very short game. However, it roasts you with its extremely strong immersion and a captivating story. You can finish it in at most 10 hours. The game, based on the novel, provokes profound philosophical thoughts and reflections on how "life" might develop or be sustained outside our planet or solar system. A truly enthralling tale! 9/10!
Super fitting science-fiction music – 9/10.
The combination of the backwards happened story-line written down by a comic, is outstanding.
The gameplay is very authentic. There is no UI, which only strengthens the immersion – 8/10.
Graphically, it's very impressive for the budget.
At a discount – under €20 – it's already a must-have for anyone who loves science-fiction or was even familiar with the author on whose work this game is based.
The only point, which makes it not perfect, its the lenght. It would be a dream, if they had the money, to make it twice or more as the lenght it has.
Still a big thank you to the studio for making this piece of art.
The Invincible 4/5!
Great retro futurism implementation, one of the best in game industry.
I really glad, that now we have the game inspired by Stanislav Lem.
I am OK with walking simulators and enjoyed this game a lot.
Thanks to developers!
10/10 walking sim cleaning up the ending achievements is torture.
Starward Industries The Invincible is a faithful rendition to the seminal novel that also expands upon the original story. The game is visually stunning and the dialogue is captivating. It was amazing to see many concepts previously described in text take form in a fully interactive 3D world, and I would recommend the game to anyone seeking their next adventure.
In the beginning I found that game quite boring. I did not like the characters and found them oldschool and stiff. After some time I really got into it: It is slow, like walking through a book. But if you take the time to think about the problems and feel with Yasna it is very likeable. Unfortunately the end is a bit rushed.
I also liked the speaker of Yasna very much, the voice really carries the game.
Perfect story, amazing game. Thank you guys for the such of game. It's a pleasure to play this game after working day. Lanscape is perfect! Thank you for Ukrainan translation. I'm waiting for the next game amazing game!
Also, thnx to our Poland friends, for the grate writer, without him, we wouldn't have such story. I'll buy the book)
Wow - what a great experience playing The Invincible game has been! A brilliant adaption of a deep science fiction story (which I had never come across before), with wonderful 3D imagery (from the huge scale planetary landscapes down to the "golden space age" 1950s/1960s space suits, ray guns, and steel & chrome war machines), fantastic voice acting, and branching narratives with real consequences.
What The Invincible isn't, of course, is a true open world game with complete player freedom to explore and interact. I see this game more as a dialogue-rich visual novel dressed in beautiful 3D graphics and wonderfully narrated - there are important choices to make which alter the course and outcome of the game and the relationships between characters, but there is a finite set of routes, dialogue options, actions and outcomes. I didn't find that these underpinning restrictions & rules marred my enjoyment of, or immersion in, the game and the story at all, but others may feel differently.
Strangely, what did jar a little was re-running sections of the game to get different endings/achievements. My first complete playthrough was the most immersive and I was engrossed in it from start to finish because everything was fresh, new and astonishing. But re-running from checkpoints, save-files, or the beginning of chapters to make different choices, though still enjoyable, inevitably wasn't quite as amazing as the first time. Technically, there were a few clipping oddities and textual overlay errors along the way, but these probably reflect limitations in my computer hardware or incorrect settings rather than faults in the game itself.
finished the game, nuked everything 5/10
game was way too slow and very dragging, wish i could move faster
+ has good space music and art, no lags, good looking
- maybe its just me but the story was meh, very lonely
- high price $$$ for a 6 hrs game lol
brilliant piece of art. Stunning visual effects, especially stretched across 3 monitors. Strictly speaking not a "game" but more of a story brilliantly told. Even if you know the book well, worth playing since it's based loosely on the story but told along completely different plot.
Cool story in a cool setting from a cool book
I really enjoyed this game, and while I'm giving the steam thumbs up, I only recomend it *if* you like walking simulators. It's mostly 10hrs of you talking to someone over the radio as you walk/drive around and explore, and it relies entirely on the writing, the atmosphere (pun not intended) of the beautiful planet they've crafted, and your curiosity to keep you playing. The voice actors are excellent, and the dialogue choices you're given felt very satisfying as Yasna, I got a really good sense of seeing the world through the lens of a biologist, and while I've seen some criticism of the games ending, I loved the understatedness of it and how it trusted you to interpret of it what you will.
If you like Firewatch, and you are a fan of hard sci-fi, you're most likely going to love this game.
Phenomenal game, beautiful art-style, great story telling, highly recommended!
Overall a great experience, but sadly the game also has some problems like graphic flickering and fps drops ... also I feel like the voices could be way louder in some parts, but I still recommend the game, especially if you liked Firewatch.
Ever wonder what it’s like to be stranded on an alien planet with nothing but old school sci-fi gadgets, a questionable sense of curiosity, and the creeping realization that maybe humans shouldn’t be poking around on a unknown planet? Well, this game has you completely covered.
If you are expecting nonstop action, The Invincible will hand you a nice pair of shoes and tell you to go take a walk. The game is all about exploration, making tough choices, and unraveling a mystery that gets real weird the deeper you go.
The story is the real star here. It’s deep, and a little unsettling. Every choice you make actually matters, leading to different endings that’ll have you wondering if you really did the right thing or just made everything worse. Of course I made everything worse.
Great slow burning game, Intriguing story. Ill give this one 8.5/10.
This is an amazing game/story. I have been struggling to enjoy games these days (including AAA titles) and thought I would try a slower paced game. This was it. It is not a walking simulator as others have claimed. Yes you are walking around a planet, but backed up by a great story, amazing visuals and rock solid dialog. The mystery is well worth the wait.
This game is a prequel to the novel - The Invincible.
I don't read books. This game made me want to read that book, its bought and on its way.
10/10
This is one of those games that's basically a movie, but you make some decisions as you go. The problem is, the game never lets me make any of the decisions because it is buggy. It shows me the decisions, but doesn't let me interact with them, and they time out and it says I chose inaction.
Due to game breaking bugs, this is a horrible game.
Story based game, and a walking simulator but one of the good ones.
With that being said the story and atmosphere is all about sci-fi, all about atompunk. This is one of the sci-fi that is a bit more grounded towards reality compared to some, so if that's your thing you will probably like this game. Its less about the action, more about the discovery.
As for gameplay, well its walking simulator, but its the type that wants you to interact with thinks ever so slightly more than "just press forward to go". Nothing super complicated, but the game wants you to, for example, get logs from a deactivate robot by actually removing the hatch, twisting a dial, and pushing a button, then grabbing the logs when they pop out. Nothing game breaking, but it does engage the player a bit more with the narrative which is exactly what walking simulators should do.
Should be noted this game does have multiple different outcomes. Some small choices don't matter, others do. Different things can happen, different endings and variants on endings can happen. Your choices do matter sometimes. Did I mention the game was atompunk, and we really don't see this genre enough?
Starts off slow but the story is fun, beautiful setting, and good to replay to try for different outcomes.
The landscape is really stunning and the presentation of technology of the 50s in a SF is very nice. However, the greatest flaw of this game are the dark areas, which are far too dark for no reason and this reduces the playability and fun. You can get stuck. Another flaw is that moving around at times is a bit awkward and could be improved. Overall, a very nice presentation of an exceptional interesting SF of Lem. I do not know if updates are to be expected, but I think it is worthwhile to do so.
A real upgrade of the game should also be very nice, where you get a bit more freedom and more tasks to fulfill.
Good narrative game. Really nails the vintage sci-fi vibe. Definitely a game to take your time with and not rush—you don't have to answer each speaking prompt immediately and sometimes it's worth stopping to let a conversation play out.
I really wish this game was a bit longer, but it was stunning and engaging in every way. Fantastic work, devs.
WOW! If you love Sci-Fi and like to explore, then this is for you. I Liked it very much. Got it on sale but would also recommend it for the full price so good was it.
Definitely a walking simulator but the environments are beautiful, the 1940s scifi look is great, and although it's slow paced, the interactive story with multiple endings is pretty interesting. I would recommend it if you like Myst style games where you can explore large although limited areas.
First off, to call this a "game" is a stretch. It is a "choose your own adventure" graphic novel at best. An interesting story, gripping suspense, and a really neat retro sci-fi aesthetic. So, an enjoyable graphic novel, but a graphic novel nonetheless.
The Invincible is about the science crew of the starship Dragonfly exploring the planet Regis III and discovering its mysteries, you play as the character Yasna, an astrobiologist a part of the Dragonfly crew. The game takes the form of an interactive story, giving you dialogue options to choose from, and a beautifully crafted game world to explore. The visuals of this game are stunning and very impressive, they will captivate you and inspire wonder in you. The dialogue of the characters is interesting too, it is at a level of quality greater than mundane conversation and common English. The characters are intelligent, and they speak intelligently, and they have meaningful things to say. You are given choices in the game that will determine the dialogue spoken by characters, so there is some reason to play this game more than once, or at least reload saves multiple times, but in many cases the outcome of the choices is the same and inevitable. Speaking for the gameplay, there is not much complexity beyond interacting with the environment, using some player equipped tools, and choosing dialogue, so I would say that the gameplay in itself is not very interesting, but this game is not about its gameplay, it is about the story. The plot is critical to the game, it will direct the player's choices and outcomes, it is basically like an interactive 3D novel, and this game is based on a text novel by Stanislaw Lem. However, the story does not disappoint in my opinion, it is interesting and captivating, although perhaps it features stereotypical hard science fiction ideas. The game is essentially about humans encountering an unusual and novel type of alien life on an alien planet, so I think it is not particularly remarkable in that sense, this does not devalue the plot itself, I think you will find it quite interesting and sometimes thrilling. Maybe the gameplay is not the best and most fun that could be, but the story is good enough to give you a reason to keep playing. Buy and play, please.
Amazing story, amazing game, binged it in one night! Worth every penny, and I wish more games were like this!
“The Invincible” is an absolute gem of a game that nails that retro-futuristic vibe perfectly. It’s like stepping into a sci-fi novel from the golden age—everything about it is stunning, from the visuals to the atmosphere. I was hooked from the get-go. The art style, the landscapes, the attention to detail—it’s all so beautifully crafted that you can’t help but get lost in it.
As a huge sci-fi fan, this game was right up my alley. The story pulls you in, and the world feels so alive and immersive that you just want to explore every nook and cranny. The sound design and graphics work together seamlessly, creating this vibe that’s hard to put into words—it’s just chef’s kiss.
If you’re into retro-futurism, space exploration, or games that make you think, “The Invincible” is a must-play. It’s a total blast from start to finish. Highly recommend!
