MUCH better than the first one! Do not take me wrong i enjoyed playing through KOTOR 1, though this is another level, it feels like all that was wrong with the 1st one like getting stuck while walking, canceled attack though still attack a target etc, they are fixed in this version. I enjoy this game A LOT!
Absolutely unrivaled Star Wars story. (For those who achieve balance.)
i love the KOTOR series wish their would have been a 3rd game but im super pumped for the remake of KOTOR 1
stuck on Telos right now but I'm not giving up, great continuation of the series. But its dated as hell so you already know that.
My 1st reviews on steam goes to this masterpiece. Time has been kind to KOTOR 2, with its narrative and choices you decide, better than any Disney Star Wars film to date. I just finished the game on the light side and I'm so eager to go through again on the dark, make all of my companions force sensitive and find more likely to lightsabers and gear.
If you haven't played this. STOP READING and grab this for only $9 some days cheaper.
I recommend this game only if you can put up with a lot of jank, glitches and crashes. This game has major flaws, but might just be my favorite Star Wars game. It's either this or KOTOR I.
The first part of the game is very slow and made me want to quit several times, but after you get off the first planet, the game picks up speed and I got super invested. This is probably my favorite story told in Star Wars, including the movies and TV shows. If you don't play games for the story this might not be for you. If you love Star Wars and want to see it confront new and challenging themes, I absolutely recommend this game. Just maybe look up a couple Mods that can help minimize the crashing, glitches and add some of the deleted content.
Best Starwars story ever written, truly a masterpiece; also just genuinely a solid story devoid of all ties to Starwars
Incredible game. I've replayed countless times, always finding something new. It's a classic.
The combat system holds up remarkably well, get past Peragus and Telos and its perfect.
Amazing game, but make sure to install the Restored Content Mod first
a game i played once as a kid 3 times as an adult ive unfortunately spent too many hours playing this tryna search every corner get as many options etc and mods made it better so dope game ig
The dev's on this game went like half-effort and said Fk it, left all the glitches and instead said "save your game often"
I love, love, LOVE this game so goddamn much, especially with the Restored Content Mod filling in the gaps and making the experience feel much more complete. I can't recommend it enough!
Far too many game ending bugs, plus the ending is bad
This game is so good, I finished first playthrough I immediately started second playthrough I forgot to make a hard save and lost my first character. After finishing second playthrough I immediately stared third and I dont know how else to say that I really enjoyed this game. Obsidian immersed themselves in Star Wars universe and its felt through the whole game.
Only downside is that of course like with every Black Isle or Obsidian game they got pushed by publisher so at the end you can tell the game was rushed and its sad tbh.
Childhood classic. Too bad the studio didn't get to finish it all with what they wanted for the final act but an absolute must play none the less.
Still an awesome game Loved it as a kid and Love it more now that theres mods that enhance the game.
Certainly needs the Restored Content Mod, but a good Star Wars experance
One of the games that I play to increase my love of D&D (as stats, equipment and combat revolve around D&D) and reminisce about the good old days of Star Wars pre-Disney, this and its superior prequel are quintessential games to own and enjoy when deep diving into what Star Wars truly was, a long time ago.
A worthy sequel to KOTOR. Great Star Wars before Disney killed the franchise.
I enjoyed the first one a bit more, but this one's still fantastic. Definitely a good story as it's improved on the previous one with abilities and such. The end battle is a bit wonky and you definitely need to prepare for it.
While Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II has some good qualities. It is lacking in many fields that the first Knights of the Old Republic excelled in. "KOTOR II" has some positives, but the good is overshadowed by the threshold of bad.
(Pros:)
KOTOR II did a great job of building upon the foundation placed KOTOR. Adding mechanics helped for added content and a fresh feel for the KOTOR experience.
- Workbench/Lab Improvements
- Additional Item Improvement (specifically for lightsabers)
- Companion Influence Mechanic
- Prestige Classes
- Added Feats/Powers
A select of planets were also very intriguing and fun to play. Such as, Onderon/Dxun and Dantooine. But other planets were lacking key components. But the negatives to this game go farther than that.
(Cons):
KOTOR II has a plethora of failures to achieve what KOTOR did. And all of these failures stem from one issue: the game was incredibly rushed. It is such a shame to see a game with so much potential be rushed out before finishing vital components.
1. Ending
By FAR the worst part of this game is the ending. The ending makes ZERO sense and is obviously incredibly rushed. Once the player (Jedi Exile) finishes their fourth planet and eventually ends up on the Ravager (Darth Nihuls's Capital Ship), everything spirals out of control. One second you'll be on Telos, and the next your on Malachor, without any explanation. Not to mention one of the worst betrayals in history. The betrayal makes no sense and conflicts with the story. Not to mention Malachor is just a planet of boredom with nothing interesting happening. Whether or not you like the game, you cannot deny that the ending is horrendous. I would actually be willing to like this game and replay it if it didn't have this terrible ending. It is the complete opposite of KOTOR, which has an incredible ending that felt like the game led to that moment of you dueling Malak on the Star Forge. KOTOR II completely lost that feeling.
2. Choices/Dialogue
The lack of choices and general dialogue with different characters and scenarios is very lame. KOTOR had a wonderful array of almost every quest having at least two if not three different outcomes. KOTOR II was missing much of this, probably due to the game being rushed. Not to mention the companion dialogue is incredibly lacking. Even though the influence mechanic was introduced (along side being able to turn some of your companions to Jedi/Dark Jedi) companion dialogue is very stale and there is zero character development.
3. Bugs/Glitches
KOTOR II has many bugs and issues within it's gameplay. Once again, an outcome of the game being rushed and not having the proper optimization. From not completely missing quest stages; to Bao-dur being completely locked out and not being interactable, this game is filled with missing optimization.
All in all. KOTOR II has some good qualities, but it has many bad qualities. Many I didn't even list here. What makes it even worse is the fact that this game was just a lead up to the Star Wars: Old Republic MMO game, with no actually solution. Whereas KOTOR was a complete, awesome, spectacular stand-alone game. KOTOR II relied on you playing SWOTOR. In coalition; SWOTOR and KOTOR II completely destroy Revan's character. Which is the most criminal crime when it comes to one of the greatest characters in Star Wars.
This game was a disaster and I could not recommend anyone playing it other than to fill the thirst for more KOTOR gameplay.
It's KotR 2! is it as good as the original? No, absolutley not. But that's because KotR is a unrivaled masterpiece 20 years later. That's not to say KotR 2 isn't spectacular, it really is. I'd give it a 9.8/10. Especially with the The Remastered Content Mod. I love towards the endgame where I'm so powerful that I'm just plowing through mobs by myself. The ability to do light, neutral, and dark side runs gives it unprecedented replayablity for it's time. The two KotR games have some of the best, if not THE BEST, Star Wars stories ever written. The graphics are dated but with the mod it's okay. Again the game is over 20 years old at this point. I will always reccomend these games to any Star Wars fan.
One of the best games I have ever played. Great storyline and voice acting, really nice world building, depth of narration, diving into the lore of the Star Wars universe. There are some bugs, but nothing serious.
Amazing game that everyone needs to play. If you are a fan of rpgs or star wars you need to check this out. The ending falls a little flat but the Journey is one that is worth it.
Yeah. Easily moddable too. And you can kick back and couch/bed it with a controller now, that alone is a yes.
A classic. Even taking off the rose-tinted glasses, this game still has a lot to offer, and I come back to it for another full playthrough every couple years. But fair warning, in classic Obsidian fashion, it was released unfinished, and like KotOR I, it was already buggy to begin with. So I recommend saving often (and alternating between two to three save slots every couple hours), and also using The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM). As many reviews note, that mod, created by dedicated fans, patches a lot of holes, both in the plot and character arcs, and also in the actual gameplay itself. But even it is not perfect.
This game greatly improves on KotOR I's solid mechanical foundation, which loosely adapted 3rd Edition D&D RPG mechanics for its combat and character progression. Weapon and armor upgrades have been overhauled into a crafting system, which offers a fair few avenues to optimize your chosen build. The companion influence system is another welcome innovation which deserves to be truly iterated upon. And the story and characters are much more complex and not what you'd expect from a Star Wars game -- although it does take a couple playthroughs to fully understand, in my experience. Fair warning, the first 10 hours can be pretty damn dull --it doesn't bother me much, but it's a common point of criticism.
Bottom line, you get what you put into this game. It's a great ride, and I love growing my team from humble beginnings into army-killing demigods, all the while enjoying some pretty juicy roleplay and introspecting on the story's themes and questions. But between the practically necessary mod, the slow opening, and at times unintuitive RPG mechanics, it's not nearly a perfect game. Easily worth $10 and 20 hours to make up your own mind, I'd say.
May the Force be with you, and remember to save often and in multiple slots!
I have probably finished this game several times across xbox, pc (steam and non steam). Enjoyed every minute of it.
did I ever tell you the story of the lesbian space witches?
Beautifully crafted game. Along with it's predecessor. The absolute best Star Wars stories.
Needs more mods, but even this 20 year old relic still packs some epic start wars story and game play is good.
Absolute classic, make sure to play it with the restored content mod in Workshop for the full experience.
Even unfinished, it's one of the best games I've ever played. Brilliant story, character design, and everything.
super fun easy for my pc to run
I keep this running inn the background when ever my pc is on because it uses so ittle resources
graphics are not amazing but hey this is an older game so it is just to be expected
10/10 would reccommend
This is one of the finest games ever made, but rushed at the end. Download the restored mod.
This and KOTOR set the bar for SW games. I have hundreds of hours and multiple play throughs on Xbox. The graphics are old, but the story makes up for it.
