This released the same year as BloodRayne 1, but somehow this optimization is worse, and the controls are like trying to wrestle a chimpanzee. I enjoyed Terminal Reality's time while it lasted, but this has aged like milk... and it's well past its sell by date. So unless there's some fixes that are released 20-something years after the game's release, it's going to remain unplayable in this format.
This game was HUGE for me as a kid, unfortunately during the many moves my parents made, the disk for my Xbox Original was lost and only the game guide and the empty case remained....
When I saw this on the steam store it was an unexpected but very much so welcome surprise!
My only real complaint about the port of this from console to PC is the Mouse is a little jank and the Audio is inconceivably loud
This game is hard enough, but having no checkpoints and no savestates doesn't make it better.
This is a very poor Metroid clone, with the worst mouse controls I've ever seen in a video game. At first I thought that the game was glitching, but then I realized that it's just how it works: mouse look depends on cursor position, making your character turn left and right when you don't want him to.
There are 10 levels in the game, they are hard, long and tedious. I cannot afford playing for hours and hours just to beat one level in one sitting. That times are over.
And on top of all things, the game doesn't recognize any modern game controllers.
BlowOut is a classic. I used to play this all the time on PS2 and Gamecube back in the day. Your objective is simple. Get through each level, find the keys, kill a bunch of mutated monsters, and have fun! You start with an infinite ammo machinegun and a jetpack to help you get from one floor to another on an abandoned and deteriorating space station. Just know that it is an older game, so there may be some bugs. For me, the xbox one controller won't work but I think an xbox360 one will but have yet to test it as it has been years since my last time playing. Overall, things have worked just fine for me aside from an error message at launch but doesn't seem to affect gameplay in any way.
So this game is old, from a time when the Play Station 2 was king (Was the system I first played BlowOut on) and Doom 3 wasn't around to melt pc's just yet.
It shows it's age as a game designed for console ported to pc, the most advanced video setting is brightness...and that's pretty much it.
Mouse controls are a tad jank but something I quickly got used to, it's a fun little side scrolling shooter dangerously similar to Metroid but fun non the less.
If you can get passed the lack of options and the hyperactive mouse controls, you'll have a blast.
It's kinda sad to see a decent game go unplayed but it was fairly basic, but I feel it's simplicity is it's strength.
