Mindsight is a minimalistic evolution of a match-3 game. The goal of the game is to find all sets of three adjacent symbols whose characteristics either match or differ. Each symbol has three characteristics: Color, Shape, and Shading. The color can be blue, green, or red. The shape can be a triangle, a circle, or a square. And the shading can be solid, striped, or empty. Each of these characteristics either need to be the same or different for three consecutive horizontal or vertical symbols to make a set. You beat the level when you've found all possible sets on the board.

I.. guess I got what I asked for. Around 500 levels worth of practically the same puzzle, nothing introduced, the thing on the store page is practically the whole game.
There are 6.. chapters? called packs, I have no idea what the difference between Pack 1, 2, or 3. The rest of the pack are based on size. Theres training, which is mechanically different from the whole game, and thus isnt really training. There is also random, which gives out random levels, that feels exactly the same as what Id imagine to be the designed levels.
Overall, definitely not worth the money nor time.
This is based on a mathematical puzzle game called SET, which has been around forever, and spawned an ultra addictive game on Macintosh called Mind Thump.
This is the only version left, after SET made damn sure that their intellectual property was not infringed (all copies of Mind Thump were removed from the internet).
The music is nice, but unlike Mind Thump, there are no diagonals, meaning all games can be solved using brute force... but a for a 5 minute distraction, it could have been a lot worse.
EDIT: 100% Completion... took a while... but the music is nice, and it's a bit of fun for the price !!!
I never expect that I can finish this game. It seems easy for most other reviewers but not for me at the beginning. I didn't understand the logic of the game at first. Even after I understood the game, I still made some mistake and I felt there were too many levels. I only enjoyed the game if I played the levels in stages instead of trying to finish the entire game.
I would prefer the game gives me a second chance or two more chances instead of forcing me to replay the entire level from scratch if I make a mistake.
I even took some notes to recognise the pattern to help me with the game at the beginning.
Hard
* Different colour, shading, and shape.
Easy
* Same colour, same shading different shape.
* Same shading and shape, different colour.
* Same colour, different shading.
Medium
* Same colour, different shading different shape.
* Same shape, different shading, different colour.
* Same shading, different colour, different shape.
Very Easy
* Everything is the same.
Can too much of a good thing be bad?
Yes. Yes it can.
If you play this game and have a low threshold for boredom, you will be howling in sheer despair at the repetitiveness of the puzzles.
Hey, I'll admit I knew going in there wouldn't be much of a story... or *a* story, and that there would be one kind of puzzle only. But did there have to be... so.many.of.them?! And that the same classical piano would be playing non-stop? I like classical btw, Baroque mostly, with some occasional forays into Medieval.
I know, I know- cry me a river, so I am 'cuz this is my party / review and I'll cry if I want to.
Ok, now I'm gonna go play 10 more minutes of this for the achievements' sake. Ten minutes at a time is all I can handle without chewing my hands off.
oh... yeah... I do recommend this game 'cuz easy cheevs (I'm so ashamed.)
This is a good puzzle game. It's a good warm-up game for when you just boot up the computer and for when you're ready to call it a night. Because you can play a single puzzle level -- which takes maybe a minute or two-- or you can play as many levels as you like.
The rules are simple: it's a match-3 game where you're looking for 3-of-a-kind (such as 3 green solid circles) all the way to a trio that has nothing in common: a solid red square, striped green triangle and empty blue circle. The matches are ranked by how many things in common: Very Easy has 3 things in common, Easy has 2 things in common, Medium has 1 thing in common and Hard has nothing in common. This means finding medium matches are the hardest. As your eyes will instinctively pick out 3 blue squares, and after a few levels you're quickly looking for any red-green-blue trio to see if they have nothing in common, but hunting for a red, blue and green square or a shaded circle, square, triangle becomes a pain.
Pluses:
It saves where you are at.
Every level is doable.
You can earn all achievements in about 10 to 12 hours.
The author responds quickly to discussion threads.
It's only a buck; often less when on sale. It's well worth more.
Minuses:
The music is very eclectic. Some soundtracks make you want to see if there's an OST; others make you wonder if you should take off your headphones.
Now that I've played over an hour of this game without getting bored, I feel comfortable giving it a positive review. It's a very simple puzzle game of pattern recognition. It can be surprisingly tricky to find the patterns at times, even though the game tells you what sort of pattern to look for. Within the tiles on the board are combinations of three colors, three shapes, and three levels of shading. You're looking for a horizontal or vertical row of three tiles that all have one similarity, two similarities, all three similarities, or no similarities at all. I feel like people who enjoy more "visual" puzzles such as spot the difference or hidden object games would be more likely to enjoy this game. I personally find it quite soothing, and at the price, it's a steal for those who like simple, casual games with a good amount of content.
Developer made it free on Google Play for a short time, and I gave it a go. I liked it enough that I ended up purchasing it here. I found it to be quite a unique match 3 in a sea of the genre. A few of my friends have also since obtained the game and enjoyed it quite a bit themselves.
Background music has classical and relaxing tunes. It has colorblind (blue, yellow, orange) mode. Five language options. Volumes for music and sounds.
If relaxing puzzles are your thing, I definitely recommend it.
Curation
This is okay for a simple puzzle game. It gets a thumbs up for not having a timer. The game is like word search, but instead of looking for words in a grid, you are looking for sets of three symbols. Each symbol is a combination of color, shape and shading. Color: blue, green, or red. Shape: triangle, circle, or square. Shading: solid, striped, or empty. A valid set must have either three of a kind or one of each for every characteristic. For example, two red symbols and a green symbol are never a valid set, but three red symbols might be a set if shape and shading both have valid combinations. In addition, sets must be consecutive vertically or horizontally, but not diagonally. You beat a level when you've found all the valid sets.
Pros
The achievements are pretty straightforward. Just keep solving puzzles and eventually you’ll get all the achievements. There is no timer, so you don’t have to worry about a time limit. There is an option to generate random levels.
Cons
If you click on three symbols that are not a valid set, then the level resets to the beginning. I think that’s a bit extreme. It would have been better if you could continue the same level after an invalid set notice. In addition, there should be a way to clearly highlight each set that was already found. Also, the characteristics get to be a bit repetitive. For example, the shapes on every level are limited to triangles, circles, or squares. It would have been a nice touch if other shapes were available, perhaps diamonds, stars, or hexagons.
Love how simple the UI is and the game a nice puzzle to think about but not to difficult :)
Price is totally worth it.
You have to identify patterns in terms of 3 shapes, 3 colors, and 3 styles of shading. Pleasant game with a lovely soundtrack, but it's not challenging and the number of possible patterns is limited, so it got dull fairly soon. Good for half zoning out, but you can't zone out completely because you'll make a mistake, which causes the set to start all over again. Includes a tutorial, a setting for colorblind users, and the option to turn the music off.
This is a very nice little puzzle game, with plenty of content for the small price. It is perfectly suited to keeping your eyes/hands busy while listening to podcasts or audio books. In fact, that is exactly what I used it for and it worked very well for the purpose.
Great puzzle game. Game has enough levels to not get bored by it. Only thing I came across is that when you have a lot of hard ones to guess they become relatively easy to find as the grid does not offer much room for other difficulties then. (Example: Pack 1 - Level 70)
I'm used to the card game "set" which is what i expected this to be similar to. Rules are the same, you're looking for 3 cards which each represent 1 of 3 characteristics: color, shape and filled-in variant (solid, stripes or outline). In the actual card game there is a 4th characteristic of quantity (1, 2 or 3 objects), and I have another variant that has the 4th characteristic of size (small, medium or large). I even have the set dice version! I have another game called "iota" which follows the same premise that takes this concept and mixes the game dominoes into the mechanics. Needless to say, I'm very familar with this game type, how to play and its challenging nature.
So you're given a selection of cards to choose from. In set, you're trying to find as many matches as possible (there's 81 cards total, and my record was under 3 minutes with only 12 displayed at a time and covering matches similar to the wish solitaire game).
This game can have several options that meet the critera for a easy, medium or hard match but only select ones are correct. So i've played where for example 3 empty green triangles. I click on each 3, expecting a match. NOPE. The game will not recognize it as a match. It wanted the 3 red striped squares and only the 3 red striped squares. How am I supposed to know which "match" the game actually determines as correct? There's really not a set way except to click on it, and if it's not the one it wanted you to pick, game over.
It could be argued that it's a puzzle and once selected you cannot select that card again, in which case, I would argue that 1) that's now how the training portrays it as it permits a card to be selected more than once and 2) used cards should be either taken off the board or darkened to indicate they are no longer in play.
A fix would be to have the game acknowledge multiple possiblities for a match rather than the game picks one and no others count, even if they are legit matches. It might be where all possible matches are available and you're trying to find them all. Similar to a word scramble game that has however many words possible and you get points for each word based on length. In this case, points would be based on complexity. But this might also be constrained b/c it is a relatively small program and may exceed this program's perimeters.
It would be nice to have a freeform game that just is just find matches and when you select cards that match, those cards are replaced. Maybe 1 point for an easy, 2 points for a medium and 3 points for a hard. Either timed or untimed. Basically an arcade mode.
Fortunately, I didn't pay a lot for the game, but it's just frustrating railroading gameplay.
A great puzzle game and cheap at the price. Relaxing gameplay with relaxing music. I'll be coming back to this very often.
A simple, beautiful, infuriating, relaxing work of genius. Picked up on sale at 20% off this is a hidden gem and a no brainer. The music is a gorgeous cut of classical selections. It's just lovely (and frustrating) to play. Cannot recommend this highly enough.
Surprisingly good. You can see exactly what it's going to be like from the screenshots and description. But when you actually play it, you see that this brilliantly simple twist on the match-3 idea also happens to be simply brilliant.
That you are using 3 concepts (colour, shape, fill) and each much ALL match, or must NOT match at all means you have sort of 3.5-dimensional to think in. And on a 2D board that makes... I have absolutely no idea how many dimensions it makes actually.
But even if you can spot normal match-3 moves instantly, and scan for the best moves instinctively, you'll find this isn't so simple. It can require some pretty methodical, careful thinking as the boards get bigger.
I like that one error means you have to start again. Otherwise it's be both tempting and too easy to half-guess some of your choices, even unintentionally. As it is, it gives the game a bit more depth. You have to be sure you really 'see' an answer before trying it.
Simple but clear and responsive interface, nicemusic, and plenty of puzzles. Well worth the money. Definitley the only downside is the 'why didn't I think of that' moment I had when I realised how clever it is.
Edit: This game is my nominee for the 2017 The “The World Is Grim Enough Let's Just All Get Along” Award
'Color, shape, shading. Color, shape, shading. Color, shape, shading.' I chant this to myself quietly as I play this delightfully brain-twisting puzzler. It makes me feel like an idiot in a very nice way, unlike my ex-wife. HEYYYYYOOOOO.
Great "thinking-friendly" music (including some classial), simple but lovely graphics.
I don't like how when you make one error it makes you restart the level; I think it would be more appropriate to maybe give you 3 strikes or something-- but this is a small complaint. The game could also use some more options, like fullscreen/resolution settings and maybe a dark/night mode. But for a buck, no reason to not suggest this if you want some brain exercise.
Great entertainment for less than $1.
Games is basically a match-3 puzzle game. Tiles have three characteristics, shape, color, and fill. Matches of three tiles come in four "difficuklties". Very easy - all three characteristics match; Easy - two characteristics match, Medium - one characteristic matches; and finally Hard - no characteristics match.
Once you get the hang of it, puzzles are fun and only somewhat challenging as the board keeps getting bigger.
Some very easy Steam acheivements and a random puzzle generator, once you finish the 110 "canned" puzzles.
for anyone having trouble with this, it is really quite simple. Just read the wonderful Steam Store page.
This is a very nice, and very inexpensive, puzzle game. Oh, and the music is wonderful as well!
Really nice game.
