WARNING ! Puzzles will drive most men mad. Playing this game requires patience. Even more with a co-op buddy.
The plus sides are thus:
+Great characters
+Story
+Gameplay(Combat specifically)
Downside
-Wretched puzzle solving.
-Lack of upgrades to buy from merchants/trainers.
-Somewhat frustrating platforming.
Great story, but I wished to have a DS2 styled gameplay
Glitches both for enemies and player, gets stuck occasionally, poor controls map. definitely not made because they love the franchise but to make a quick buck and end it.
Thrilling combat, amazing exploration and deep and hilarious characters are just a few of the things that cannot be used to describe this shit game
nice
This game is trash from the ground up. Shit controls. Poor balance. Dumb ideas for character progression. Terrible action sequences. The environmental interactions are still thrown at you like its the other three games but it's 2.5D and you're left at the mercy of way too much automation in how you interact with it. The only reason it has 5 hours on it, is I got called away and left it running. I would've refunded otherwise. Save your money and buy something that's well made. This is crap.
I just finished playing as Duo Horsemen, Strife and War, rampaging through universe, slaying both Corrupt Angels and Demons. My next journey after this is seeing the story through Wrath's Eyes in Darksiders 3
Beautiful story and game mechanic
good darksiders game as diablo style but playing strife make it even more better
other than the glitches game is good.
funny and well made game with some caveats
Darksiders Genesis is the coop little sibling of the other Darksiders games. The fixed three quarters perspective and the level based structure make the game feel smaller in scope, and the zoomed out camera seems a little bit at odds with the extremely busy character designs.
The main problem is that Darksiders Genesis doesn't offer much beyond combat, and the designs of the combat encounters aren't really interesting enough to sustain a 15 hour game.
entartaining much!
Only 3 hours in but it's already proven to be pretty fun.
camera is garbage and locked into bad views
horrible controls for keyboard
nothing like darksiders 2
MOBA style combat with none of the charm. 1/10
i fucks wit it heavy fr fr
I was expecting a short, low-budget, rather fun simple game. But I was blown away by how greatly it was crafted(for the most part). The environments were beautiful, fighting enemies and bosses were really fun, and the writing was top notch. I never knew I needed War vs Strife's banter. Speaking of Strife, now he's my favorite character of the four(I still love Death tho). And the music, holy shizz, the music is awesome in this game(Make sure you buy Digital extras, it'll be worth it!). I played through the game solo and the gameplay depth was even deeper than the mainline entries.
However, I have some gripes. The amount of bugs, while not game breaking, were rather frequent, things like clipping though walls and floor or enemies getting stuck. Also getting stuck on the objects on floor like candles, bones etc were really frustrating. But the worst of them all them was the horrible platforming section. Due to fixed camera angles, most of the platforming sections were a torture method of their own.
Overall, it's a great game, with great replay value, kicka$$ soundtrack and great character interactions which outweigh the negatives. I'd highly recommend it if you've at least played Darksiders 1 or you like these type of games.
Good
Fun to play.

Not only are there better darksiders games, there's better local-coop games.
I gave it a chance but I very much feel this game was hamstrung by a lack of budget and ideas. It also has a bunch of ill fitting design choices, not least of which is the choice to make it a co-op twin stick shooter. with an awful fixed perspective camera and un-intuitive controls. I get the sense that this game was made just to have a game out there featuring the fourth horseman (Strife) so that the devs could finally close the book on the Darksiders IP without leaving any loose ends. The third game was already stretching the IP (and budget) to breaking point, this game feels exactly like what it is; low budget, low ambition, and low expectations.
Darksiders had its time, and it was fun while it lasted, but this game is the final nail in the coffin. Let it die.
after the steam OS update, the game experienced resolution problems and the settings in the game could not be used, making the game uncomfortable to play
While not a long game, this is a fun game, especially when paired with a friend. Even better if you both enjoy Darksiders, but if not, it's an entertaining ride. Playing a top-down scroller with Action-adventure slasher elements is one thing, but it completely pulls off the Darksiders feel. While the enemies may lack depth outside of bossfights to suit the necessary perspective, it's surprisingly deep, and works very well with multiplayer on higher difficulties.
And if you're interested in the story of Darksiders, this one also isn't to be skipped. While it comes off a bit heavy, it does build into the narrative made by the mainline Darksiders game.
Play as War, and/or Strife, and fight through various realms to destroy those who would upset the balance. Called against Lucifer himself to answer for an arms race that may tip the scales of the great cosmological war in his favor. If anyone is to be trusted, let alone believed...
This video game has too many bugs
Good co-op game but gets boring quickly.
Game is advertised as having local co-op/splitscreen, but you cannot play it with one keyboard and one gamepad, because according to the developers, due to the game being on Unreal Engine, when you try to use that one gamepad to join as player 2, instead the game just switches the player 1 input method to that gamepad. So you essentially need to plug in two gamepads for it to work even if one of the players prefers playing on mouse and keyboard... Complete nonsense. But that's just theory. I do own 2 gamepads, I plugged them both in and it still did not let me play in co-op. Both gamepads controlled the same one player. No second character appeared on screen when I "successfully" joined the game in splitscreen.
The devs acknowledged this issue on release and still never fixed it.
dogshit fucking parkour section
Nice 2D jump & run
this is really a cool game. war and strife r supa funny. 9/10
Congratulations! Another FU**ED UP game in the series of Darksiders, full of bugs and stupid side missions that makes the game unplayable.
One of the most frustrating bugs is when you’re killing a major creature for the core and after the bugged finishing animation, you can’t pick up the core, there’s no picking up button.
The stupid side quests like “Defeat Less Than 5 Hounds Before Killing The Houndmaster” are even more frustrating. Why making side quests that can’t be completed in the first walkthrough of the mission, without specific equipment. How the hell should the plyer know that? When there are walls, teleporters, etc., you know there should be something that you’ll use later, but here just a quest. You’re trying your best to avoid all the hounds, just to find out that the boss is surrounded with those and you can’t even land a hit on him without taking out the stupid dogs.
Nice Game, but i prefer Darksiders 2 Leveling with RPG system
I didn't think I'd like it at first, but once it the game starts get getting rolling I found myself enjoying it.
88/100 - My 146th game since 2020
This one was an unexpected package. I thought it was going to be a run of the mill action exploration game, but it surprised me. It is really good.
- Excellent graphics
- Excellent environment
- Best to play single player and keep switching between War and Strife
- Few level have incredible background scores. Check out the "Decay" music. It was so good that I kept prolonging that level. I didnt want it to end!
- Great boss fights
- Great enemies and everything
My only complaint is that sometimes the controls get a bit stuck hampering the immersion.
Other than that, a superb package!
One of the best, if not the best, game series on here. I can't wait for the new installment in 2025.
ONE OF THE BEST GAMES FOR PLAY WITH YOUR FRIEND
i played this cus im a darksiders fan. although there are some things need improving its still a decent game even for playing alone
Play it on PC years ago but didnt finish.
Playing it back now on Steam Deck Oled, runs awesome. And i think i'm gonna finish it this time!
definitely different than the rest of the series, more like a diablo looter than before. not comparing to the other games the game play is quite good actually. I had to set it down and come back to it to actually appreciate the game because I wanted another game like 1-3. Fun looter you can pick up and set down easy and its nice to have local co-op I play with my gf sometimes because she f*ing loves diablo so she liked this lol.
graphics look good, but gameplay is incredibly unpolished.
I suggested to a friend we get Darksiders Genesis to play co-op together, we played for an hour and never touched the game again. Four years later the same friend sent me a meme saying, "me convincing my friend to buy another game that we'll play for 10 minutes and never play again". I just thought "This b!#$h!" and finished the game out of spite.
Anyway the game's great, the art and music in Darksiders has always been amazing. They've gone with an isometric view rather than the usual third-person one, I thought it was a cop out but it works really well with the combat and the way the levels are designed. Some of the traversing is quite janky due to poor depth perception and I think they need to simplify the controls.
I'd dare say Darksiders Genesis is more fun as a single player. You're able to switch characters for the sake of completing puzzles, but various scenarios definitely favour one character over another and being able to swap keeps things constantly enjoyable.
Smooth combat, good story, graphics.
Platforming could be better.
coop is fun
I love the Darksiders series and I recently played through this game with a friend. The game was simple to get into and play through (except maybe a couple of small things but overall no issues). Saying that I have to mention that the game was buggy. Sometimes I was falling through terrain, the platforming sections were a bother since you often couldn't tell where you will land and such. Despite that, I would recommend this game to other people and play it again.
Its Aight
It's a good game, that's it.
Not bad. So far this isnt interesting. Darksiders 1 opening cutscene is still one of the best I ever seen. War was heavily nerfed in 1 so its cool to see him full power. For gameplay, Its decent. You can most of the combos you could do in the first game but now its top down view. For Strife, hes interesting. He has his own mechanics and you need good doge skills. When one goes down, you swap, and the other respawns. The game gets hard quckly and each level has tons of secrets. Ill keep playing this one. This does feel more of a party game with the drop in co-op. So far I enjoy it but playing this really just makes me want to play the first one again as that is one of my favorite games ever.
Go to Hell with this game. Literally.
I found this game to be a nice addition to the franchise. Classic hack & slash Darksiders with some character customization, but with top-down view this time. Interesting combat alternating mele and ranged. I liked the Creature Core system, simple and smart. Also good replayability, very good soundtrack and excellent level design.
On the down side, the camera angle is fixed and at some instances it was a pain, but not a great deal. Also the story is very shallow, but not boring. The interactions between Strife and War keep it enterteinening.
After having dropped Darksiders 3, I went in with rock bottom expectations - but was pleasantly surprised! Despite the top down perspective, this is just a fun little hack and slash, with some great co-op to boot! (Though it has a rather forgettable story)
Started the game with my brother but ended up finishing it by myself. The game is plagued by numerous questionable design choices that overshadow its strengths, resulting in a tedious and unenjoyable experience.
