Cool game, my introduction to 40k. Cool story, the game itself is alright needs more gun variety. kinda like god of war if you had a gun.
The game is from 2011 and I've never seen anything so terrible!
The one positive thing about this game is the story, the rest is really shit....
In terms of gameplay, I would compare the game to Vietnamese cassette games.
Demanding a €35.99 game from 2011 with such appalling gameplay is a shameless rip-off of Warhammer players and fans.Even though the game is on sale at a discount, the price is still high for how bad the game is.
The collision detection is janky as hell, there is a MASSIVE delay when trying to stop running and the execution prompt doesn't function consistently. The game is also short as hell EVEN when playing it on Hard for the first ever run. 13 hours of a campaign mode for a $40 game, not a great deal. The design seems to have a lack of forethought involved in it as well. Why give the player new weapons and a pretty close to full ammo cache just to end the area and take away everything the player just received? They do this to the player 3 separate times from what I remember from 1 play through. All of the controls feel chunky and resistant on top of everything else but at least it has the Power Axe I guess. 5/10

A actual great game, but its short ;-; (About 5/7 hours long), wish it was longer but its great.

-It's a little bit pricey but i think its worth it.
-I reccomend getting it when its on sale as i got it for $11 (AUD).

Absolutely amazing game for when it was released. If you love Space Marine 2 you'll love this game as well. The controls are almost identical and the gameplay is wonderful. I love it.
One of the Greatest campaigns I've ever played, just about 9 hrs to completion, shame I can't get much multiplayer going but maybe it'd be good with friends? 10/10
Definitely worth to get on sale. The sequel made me buy this.
Campaign is short but I am really enjoying it.
Combat mechanics are good and graphics are decent for that time.
The only thing I would complain about is the full price which is too much for a game that old.
Other than that, as a Warhammer 40k fan I have nothing bad to say about this game.
Emperor protects!
Cons: campaign looks short and as a straight corridor, so probably not worth it without a discount.
Pros: you get to kill enemies of the Emperor. It's fun.
Too much action, very unique abilities and weapons, very fun and full of tons and tons of enemies of humanity to kill! I highly highly recommend.
This game perfectly aligns with Space Marine 2. It's the same game, only with shittier graphics. That is to say, the game is kick ass.

playing through this made me nostalgic of my childhood, this has every popular game design trope of its time... a hardcore Xbox 360 era game for sure.
It's a really fun nonsense brutal action game. It kind of reminds me of the original Gears of War games. The plot actually gets pretty interesting about half way in as well
I highly recommend it.
I havent had the chance to play multiplayer (for obvious reasons)
but the single player campaign is amazing
the story is peak warhammer and titus is an amazing character to follow through it
enemy wise, chaos is a joke compared to the orks in combat
not only is there so many of them but the nobs are really tanky and the rocket orks do a lot of damage if you are not careful
other than that though this game is peak
happy purging battle brothers! may the emperor guide your hands through the purging of the xenos filth

10/10 pain in the ass if you are dum like me, and play in hard mode, this game was made in the time where, hard mode has hard, not like today that hard mode is normal mode, and normal mode is journalist mode
Gameplay wise it plays like a mediocre gears of war clone. Theres definitely some cool moments but theyre separated by this rinse and repeat cycle of walking down a hallway and then killing a roomfull of enemies to get to the next hallway. For 40k fans its a great opportunity to get immersed in the setting but thats definitely the main source of enjoyment. Also just a note for anyone considering getting it, the single player is about 7 hours long (with little replay value) and all the DLC the store page hypes up is for the dead multiplayer so absolutely dont get the game at full price.
Such a classic. Sega, Relic Entertainment, and Games Workshop saw how much Gears of War was borrowing from Warhammer and said "Let's do that, but actually Warhammer for real."
Fantastic shooter. Great gameplay and atmosphere make up for shallow mechanics and simple story. Captain Titus is just a fantastic - in both meanings of the word - hero.
Still lively multiplayer in late 2024, both in co-op and PVP!
All in all the game seems a little uneven. The gfx are a bit dated, and the parts of the scenery you actually walk through seem a bit bleak and empty at times. Some of the walking also feels long. Mechanics are a little dated (no damage immunity when doing health recovery kills? Your marine can't jump witout the jetpack?) - but is this a fun 3rd person shooter? Yes. WH40k fans will love the sounds, the heavy armored footfalls and of course the bolters and swords.
I would have preferred to pay less than 12 euros and I'm not a fan of cosmetic DLCs, but I had one hell of a day. I expect this this to keep up until I feel it was worth 12 bucks.
Even with Space Marine Two now out, Space Marine 1 is, in my opinion, still worth the money to get. It's a fun game, and the plot is, of course, good. Though there's not many people playing the online modes, they're still playable and enjoyable. Playing Space Marine 1 is a good start before playing Space Marine 2, so you can learn the story that came before Space Marine 2. Even to this day, 13 years after it's release, it's still holds up as a AAA game.
The game play is still solid. Played it for my first time this year 2024 and I had a fun time with it. On normal difficulty, I was challenged and still had to pick my load outs mindfully. There are sections of the game where they intend to make you feel like a unstoppable force of vengeance and it worked because damn does Titus ever feel like a hammer and every orc and daemon looks like a nail.
The Emperor Protects.
It was meh at best. They better have stepped things up with number 2. Definitely don't buy unless it is marked way down since it is only good for 5 or 10 hours of clunky game play that has about as much story in it as any single mission from any Halo installment.
Controls are clunky by modern standards, need to play with windows compatibility to play it without repeatable crashes at certain points in the story. Otherwise, fun with a nice story. I would not pay full price.
Amazing xbox 360 era game. short, snappy, not too easy nor too hard, with a very good story that can get you in warhammer lore. i thinkn its a hidden gem!

I added files to the install and followed some guides but still no good.
I did send the error report to the devs.
There's also reviews that say the price went up just before Space Marine 2 was launched, which is a dog move.
I'm sure it's a good game- I just can't play it.

If you're a massive 40k fan then it's worth it; otherwise, just play gears of war. The game is short, beat it in 5 hours, no memorable characters, plot and writing were terrible, enemy dialogue is repetitive, and this port/remaster didn't improve a damn thing. The most fun part of the game were the jetpack sections, but there are only three of them in the whole game and they're very short. This anniversary edition makes you buy DLC that's exclusive to multiplayer, which is dead, and even on sale the game was $15. You can get a game pass sub and play all the gears games for that
This game is a lot of fun. I got it to play whilst I wait out a way to get the new one with a deal, but this game has exceeded my expectations. It feels really great. It gives you that great feeling that was lost sometime during later Xbox 360 games(hard to explain, but it's a good thing for a game to have). I could replay this, again, and again, just for the sake of running about, killing Orks. Highly recommend this.
For the Emperor.
YESSSS!! This is what shooters should be about! Don't get me wrong, I love sniper games, tactical shooters and battle sims, but sometimes you just need good dose of violence and valor. This reminds me of the good ol' classics like Doom and Wolfenstein where it was all about the firepower. This game offers the gore that's been missing in many newer games. It's a fun shooting experience with an epic storyline. The total package. Reminds me of the early Halo releases.
Graphics are naturally a little outdated in 2024, but that's why we have Space Marine 2! If you're on a budget and want to get into the Warhammer 40K universe, this is an excellent game for that!

Where should I begin, I actually bought the game when it launched a decade ago... and after years and years of working irl. I had to put games aside until recently I became unemployed giving me the chance to come back into steam and back log some games and boy what a joy i had even for a decade old title like this. The combat is brutal, quick, no BS. I really enjoyed it, the flow was good but campaign was a little short. I am about to jump onto the SM2 now thats released! excited. Highly recommended
Awesome Game!! I did play and finish Space Marines 2 , and wanted to play this to see it's origin story, and i'm pretty amazed, game is good for it's time, and it runs VERY well on my RTX 3060 Ti at 300fps also looking great maxxed out settings! I recommend this game despite it's age, it holds up well!
Pure fucking joy. Can be frustrating on Hard since you melt like an ice cream in an oven but overall fun.

The game is okay but not anything amazing. Combat is fun and is kept varied and interesting through the gradual introduction of more enemy types as well as weapons, but despite this, it definitely gets repetitive, especially when it comes to the Orcs. The weapons themselves are satisfying to use, with the lasgun being the highlight of the game for me. The weapon-swapping is pretty confusing though, and I never really managed to pin down why only certain weapons could be swapped with each other. The mission design isn't anything amazing either, barring a few standout moments and set pieces. There are also some interesting encounters set up which present unique challenges that break up the repetitiveness of combat, and the increase in difficulty as you progress also helps with this.
The boss fights are completely horrendous however. The first is another one of those "we couldn't design a challenging enough boss on its own so decided to flood you with regular enemies at the same time" where there is also no visual feedback on whether or not you're doing any actual damage against said boss until he suddenly just drops dead. And the second is literally a prolonged, tedious QTE sequence. Overall a 7/10, I'll recommend but I personally don't see myself ever coming back to this game.
There is absolutely no reason to play this in 2024. I thought it would provide some background for space marine 2, but there were absolutely no essential or interesting story/lore bits. The mechanics are, unsurprisingly, outdated and the difficulty is far too easy (this is coming from someone who plays most games on normal).
I had a hard time even getting the game to start, I found out its an issue with Ryzen going back about a decade. I had to hunt down and install a file named dinput8.dll to get it to work. After that I found out that its not wide-screen friendly let alone ultra-wide. Even running it at the a narrow and low resolution the game performs badly its not smooth when you move the camera. There is no way this is $40 dollar game except that it is. The game is broken out of the box but can be made playable. I can't recommend people pay anything more than $10 than this - its obsolete. Not even mods can revive it.
I love the combat, I love the lore and the controls. I'll say this though: If you want to play through the campaign melee focused, it'll be tough. You have to be good with it.
I also like how the planet Graia is carried over into Warhammer 40K: Boltgun. It's really interesting to see what happens to Graia, because they directly reference this game in it.
Só tomei conhecimento dessa franquia depois do sucesso que o segundo fez. Peguei esse numa promoção e achei ótimo. Apesar de não ser um jogo novo ainda tem uma jogabilidade bem gostosa. Como todo mundo diz, realmente lembra muito Gears of War.
A campanha é curta mas divertida. Joguei um pouco do multiplayer só pra ver como é, achei divertido também, mas não é muito minha praia.
Joguei a maior parte no Steam Deck e roda muito bem. Por ter jogado uma boa parte offline, acho que a Steam não registrou corretamente meu tempo de jogo. Ele está mostrando 5h, mas com certeza joguei mais que isso.
Well maybe I wouldn't for the price I paid for it like an idiot at 50$. They could also call this game " Super Big, Super Slow and Super Squishy". When I read "Space Marine" in the title I thought I would be some kind of super soldier not some big slow target with crap armor. Get it really cheap and it's decent enough even with the horrible gameplay loop of trying to hide behind anything you can because you're a piece of fluff most of the time.

Ended up playing through the campaign on this one because of the Space Marine 2 release. I enjoyed it for what it was and thought the game looked and played well for being an "old" game at this point. The story was enjoyable 40K nonsense, but really nothing to write home about.
Not much else to say. You can tell where Space Marine 2 drew it's inspiration from, and built on the game play that was present here. I'd say pick it up on sale and give it a play through if you enjoyed Space Marine 2. The game runs around 7-10 hours depending on how many secrets you want to find.
Overall recommended for 40K fans or people that want a little bit of back story on Space Marine 2.

Cool game, one of the best from the WH40K franchise. Can be a bit repetitive but the campaign isn't all that long so it doesn't get boring.

Released in 2011 and only recently reduced full price to $40? Game is good, but not worth that much, especially now. Wait for a sale.
I've been into Warhammer for a few years now, but just recently got a PC so I figured I'd give it a go. It holds up incredibly well for being over 10 years old now. The combat is great, it presents a nice challenge while still making you feel like an ultramarine. The story is nothing incredible, but it is serviceable (the sequel greatly improved on this aspect). The graphics don't feel ancient and obviously most people will be able to run this very well. Overall, I'd highly recommend. There isn't any replay value but the time you get out of it is incredible.
wow, was this really released 13 years ago? more fun than any "new" game ive bought in last few years! great lead in for starting space marine 2 as soon as i finish this one, too! its an absolute blast right from the start! remember my buddy joe trying to get me to play this when first came out but i was too wrapped up in whatever gta it was that was out at that time and i passed, boy was that a mistake! absolutely love the warhammer franchise, guys hit it out of the park with every game i play that they make! including ones they made 13 years ago! well done warhammer!
Doesn't work on a modern CPU with a high core count and requires one to install a modified dll or lower your CPU count in Windows. Not worth $50 for a 13 year old game. Buy it on sale if you must have it.
Really fun game with some unique action for a shooter but also a bit short. Worth the price when on sale
