i've never tried crack before but if it gets me feeling as good as getting the perfect item to compliment my build i might actually try crack
Similar to Diablo 2. So much loot but only few are meta. Responsive controls and decent graphics.
Looks like a mobile game nice crisp and smooth. As a grinder, the quest navigation needs improvement.
I wandered for 2 days looking for a chest in the woods per my quest.
Enemy difficulty scales in explored areas.
Depending on difficulty setting: Minor penalty for dying. (XP loss)
I like it.
It's a good classic arpg loot grinder
It does get repetitive though, and the visual clarity is horrible - it's both too zoomed out and the colors and effects blend too well into each other
Where do I begin with G.D.
The game is good really good like i cant even explain how good the game is. The graphics are old yes but I have come to this conclusion that games that have good asf graphics just have nothing behind the graphics. This coming from someone who loves the eye candy pop of games. Grim dawn eats Diablo and POE for breakfast and then comes back for seconds. The gameplay is great. I have several hundred hours in D4 POE 1 &2 and this game I have barely touched the surface at 25 hrs.
I have died a lot figuring out the mechanics its not something you can sit in a corner and just face tank bosses, you have to methodically move around time heals etc until you learn the gameplay, it will test you around every corner every hallway, you think you are in the clear think again. I just am so impressed and I have been thinking why did I never give this the chance it wanted.
If you are on the edge buy it even at 25$ you are supporting devs that have given me and so many others the game we all need. I hope someday a grim dawn 2 comes out because I'd spend 100$ on it no questions asked.
Thanks Crate entertainment for giving us a great arpg!
I believe the gameplay itself just doesn't contain enough to really grip you. It's decent enough to turn your brain off while something is playing in the background, but that really is about it.
Own the game/DLCs over on GoG, saw it was on sale so decided to get it here too (mostly for the controller support). It's nice that they have an import feature so you don't have to start from scratch if you don't want to. IMO it's the best ARPG, so def get it if you enjoy the genre.
Great on Steam Deck, though I'd recommend using ProtonGE (an easy install). Only occasional stutters without it, though.
I think it's a good introduction to hack-and-slash action RPGs for people who are curious what the appeal is of something like Path of Exile but are too intimidated by the homework to get a proper build going.
Like many players, I found the Normal difficulty obscenely easy. Maybe it's different if you've never played an ARPG and aren't familiar with the common mechanics of the genre; but once you get a concentrated build going, it's an absolute cakewalk. You just melt fools and clear the screen from beginning to end.
I found the story interesting enough. There's an appeal of like a RuneScape-esque story where the gods were banished and are vying for power, trying to break through the barrier to this realm and contest it using creatures on Cairn as their proxies.
I liked the music. I liked the audio design and visuals.
I'm not so hot on the UI. Maybe I'm spoiled by PoE and Torchlight, but I would really have liked a transparent big map always overlaid on the screen to navigate off of instead of constantly pressing 'M' to pull up and close out the map. The enlarged minimap wasn't nearly as helpful as you'd hope. The map, itself, also leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not one that likes too much hand-holding and babysitting where the game tells you exactly where to go with map markers, but this game had too few map markers IMO. I had to resort to the grimtools site more than a few times because the local map has a very limited distance before map icons are no longer visible, and some locations are straight-up not shown on the map.
I also would have liked a better inventory UI, perhaps like a WoW system where you could open up all inventory bags instead of having to switch one for the other. Smaller things like the stats of an item not appearing when you right-click a component for item application and hover over an item also bothered me.
Anyway, I found the experience enjoyable, but not enough to really get into a new game+ on the base game, which is apparently where the real fun is had as an ARPG power-fantasy experience.
Probably one of the best offline arpgs on the market right now along with Last Epoch. Multiplayer is possible, but I would say the game is made for solo play more than playing with friends.
Goated ARPG. Love the multiclassing, love the action bar with plenty of buttons. Cool story, well-executed vibe / ambiance, LOTS of side areas and optional missions, bosses, secrets and things to explore.
Would recommend if you like diablo-style games!
If you enjoyed any of the Diablo series, you'll like this game. Easily playable and re-playable. Classes and skill trees allow for many many interesting combinations.
If you need a cheap alternative to the current Diablo, this is it. No forced online play and partying up. No microtransactions for cosmetics. It feels more like what Diablo 4 should have been.My only real complaint is that the map takes some getting used to, and you can get lost fairly easily. Still, it's a great game, and I hope it gets a sequel or something soon.
"Grim Dawn starts as an adventure — and slowly turns into bureaucracy."
The early game is genuinely fun.
You kill mobs, get gear drops, equip something new — and you feel stronger immediately.
You sweep through waves of enemies, explore dark corners of the map, open chests, discover new shrines, grab more loot.
It’s addictive in the best possible way: action meets discovery meets growth.
And then... it plateaus.
Leveling slows down. Skill points become sparse. Loot becomes weirdly irrelevant — most of it drops for classes or builds you’re not even playing.
You get a legendary drop, and it’s like: “Cool, but it’s for pet builds. I’m not running pets.”
Meanwhile, your own build hasn’t changed gear in 20 levels.
You keep going, hoping something will click — but instead, you realize that to get to the “real” endgame (Ultimate difficulty), you’ll have to replay the same campaign again.
Then again.
With every new character.
Same story, same maps, same NPCs, slightly different resistance penalties.
I don’t mind difficulty. I enjoy a good challenge. I’ve played Souls games, I know what dying and learning feels like.
But Grim Dawn doesn’t challenge you — it just slows you down. It makes progression feel less earned, and more... delayed. Like someone dragging a reward behind them and saying “Just 20 more hours. You’ll get there.”
If you enjoy deep class systems, theorycrafting, and methodical build planning — this game absolutely delivers.
But if you're looking for a sense of evolving power through exploration and loot?
That momentum fades.
Fantastic early game. Great systems. Excellent atmosphere.
But the longer you play, the more you feel like the game isn’t evolving with you.
7.5/10 if you’re a builder.
5/10 if you’re an explorer.
great game. Addctive gameplay loop. A lot of freedom with the build variety. Interesting premise. Great theme.
True D2 spiritual successor
very much like any Diablo game, looks like same engine and graphic layout. Perhaps a bit clearer on pathing might be a good thing in this game.
I've played Grim Dawn for just under twenty four hours and can honestly say it is awesome and addictive. If you like action role playing games such as Diablo, Torchlight and Minecraft Dungeons, then chances are you'll love Grim Dawn. Highly recommended, A++!
Just good old ARPG Fun. Rich story, great coop game play, and a fantastic dark brooding world building. What more do you need?
This is one of the best ARPG's I've ever played. It's just endlessly fun. The amount of content is staggering and the games visuals look great still in my opinion just crank the settings. Very excited for the final dlc this year
Path of Exiles games are great but I liked the ever expanding map in this game world, as opposed to POE's finite areas. Has nice playability for players that are less adept at the complexities of POE as well.
Great successor to Titan's Quest and feels like Diablo 2's next evolution. An ARPG that definitely had to grow on me at first, but that was more due to timing in my own life and took some research. The Mastery (class) system is straight forward, but the Devotion "tree" is insanely large and gives a depth of customization that i havent seen in a long time. With it going on Sale often and DLCs STILL being released, you know that the Dev team is passionate about this project. =)
Grim Dawn review
This is a bit hard to review as the game really is ok, I just don't happen to like it that much. Graphics are fine but I don't like aesthetic of the game. The gameplay isn't easy or too hard, it's somewhere in the comfortable between. This is a good game if you liked Titan Quest, it feels similar but is still different. I haven't completed it yet so I don't know whether I like the story at all, but so far it isn't that great. There are some choices and consequences in there but they aren't very captivating in my opinion. It's not a bad game, but as I said it's aesthetic isn't good for me.
Absolutely Fantastic Action RPG, like all the best parts of Diablo 2 on tons of steroids with the awesome knobs turned up to max and torn off so hard it collapses time and space itself. Everyone should play this game!!!!
It has a pretty good initial learning curve because of all the different mechanics in the game. Tips would be to focus on accumulating skills and items with bonuses that use the primary types of damage that your character deals. Don't ever use a Demolitionist + Necromancer build. The two classes don't have any shared damage types and there are few item sets that bolster both at the same time.
this game is ace, not too dis-similar from others in the same genre but for me , better put together, slicker and more addictive. The celestial skills can define your build and make your character really tough, but as the scaling works really well, its always a challenge especially on the harder difficulties. Top quality game
Highly addictive, quick to load, great gameplay, lots of builds to test and choose from. The setting is also nice and the music is amazing. Well worth the full price.
Kick started this game and not disappointed 1 bit. Great graphics and an expanding skill tree.
As an MMO fan of the past, having played WoW at release, then DCUO later pretty heavily. I somewhat come and go with MMO's / RPG's. I had a moment with Diablo 4 but also sort of felt it was pretty shallow.
Coming over to Grim Dawn, I understand it's later in how long the game has been out, but it's an exciting game and the class specialization is pretty exciting.
Perhaps the best iso ARPG released in the past decade, maybe ever, and it's fully offline compatible!
Diablo-like gameplay with a cool, new aesthetic. I enjoyed playing it casually with my siblings.
Grim Dawn. Wow, what a descriptive name. The story in this game is very grim. There are notes throughout the game that you can read that are for lore type purposes and some of the stories are pretty horrific, if they were true. I really like this game. It's a Diablo type game or a Titanquest type game. The depth of the game is pretty much unmatched in any other game of this genre. There are upwards of about 12 classes and the character can select two classes to become a hybrid and all of the hybrids have names of the hybrid class.
This game is older and the graphics are somewhat dated, but it is just a great game. If you liked Diablo 2 or Titanquest, I think you'll love this game.
Cheers
Gilmer
This game is great, i love diablo style games, but i will give it 3 stars because of its control design, you can't move using keyboard only one button, you have to move with mouse, its hard to doge attacks while moving with mouse and press doge key on keyboard, bosses became impossible with this issue.
This is a fun ARPG game. I have been playing Diablo 3 and 4 and I tried this game. It has a good ARPG feel to it and is enjoyable.
Got this game on a whim and it is actually sick as F**K. As someone who does not play many top down ARPGs like Grim Dawn, Diablo, POE, I will say Grim Dawn is a very nice entry level ARPG that still is an enjoyable experience.
I do think the biggest issue with these games will always be the unbelievable amount of stats a new player is expected to become competent in. That is always part of the fun with these games so expect to do some learning min/maxing builds and finding how to build a certain dmg type. That being said you don't really need to have a perfect build to excel on your first play through and that is by design.
Some of the best parts of this game are the class customizability, the amazing graphics, and the monster design/frequency. Strangely This game is really chill because the backgrounds are so interesting to look at and killing hordes of monsters is very satisfying. Highly recommend for the money.
"The world has turned into a nightmare and there are things far worse than walking corpses out there." - Captain Bourbon
Pros:
+ grim world atmosphere of a Lovecraftian-inspired Victorian-like era
+ dual class system with tons of build variety
+ amazing exploration with many optional bosses, secret passages, and side zones
+ customizable loot filter ingame
+ good soundtrack
+ elite difficulty (2nd) can be skipped on a first character; alt characters can start on 3rd difficulty
+ pause game at any time
+ no P2W, no shop, no season passes, no lootboxes
+ mod support
Cons:
- graphics feel a bit dated
- FPS drops in very intense moments
- legendary set farming is a grind
Hands down the Best Isometric I have played in a long time. I love the way you build your classes from 2 and have devotions to fine tune. Numbers go up so does my dopamine! This is what Diablo could have been! It does have its flaws, for me that the inability to have a map that is transparent. That one small issue is honestly my only gripe. The game is solid, the story is dark, and The sound and visuals are on par with any AAA titles. This under the radar masterpiece deserves its time to shine! I cant wait to see what the developer is cooking up next for this!
If you LOVE or Want to TRY ARPG then this game is best add in your Library

And you will fall into World Like Never Before.
Its a great game for low end pc users . The graphics arent special but they make up for having less requirements for your pc and the game is really fun.
One of the best ARPG's out there. Nothing matches the atmosphere of Grim Dawn. Its a must play in my opinion.
An ARPG that benefits greatly from it's dark tone and setting. Builds are diverse and supported by enough mechanic elements to be interesting without being convoluted.
Must play for any fan of the ARPG genre. Great single player experience. Great itemisation. Great build potential.
An amazing successor to Titan Quest, and definitely competitive to Diablo 2 and PoE.
Fans of the genre should be thankful this game was created.
Grim Dawn – Solid Foundation, But Wears Thin Over Time
I'd put this between thumbs up and thumbs-down. Thumbs-up if its on a deep-sale (which is what I bought it on, so ultimately I'm happy).
Grim Dawn held my interest for a little while, but it quickly became repetitive to the point where it started to feel more like a chore than fun. The gameplay loop didn’t evolve much, which made progression feel a bit monotonous as time went on.
The early game also felt particularly slow, with a sluggish progression curve that made it harder to stay engaged from the outset.
I didn’t enjoy the camera controls or field of vision either—it felt more restrictive compared to other ARPGs I’ve played. Tree canopies and building facades often obscure visibility to the point where I found myself wrestling with the camera more than focusing on the actual gameplay.
Visually, the game’s graphics feel quite dated, and while functional, they don’t do much to elevate the experience.
I’ll likely finish my current playthrough with my first character and might check out the DLC quests, but I don’t see myself rushing to do another run with a different character.
Grim Dawn is my favorite isometric RPG, the atmosphere is GRIM and bleak. The music also compliments the nature of the game, as well as the art style. Gameplay and combat is really addictive especially if you have interactive and visually pleasing skills. very fun to loot and pick up everything and destroy destroyables
One of my favorites. I've actually logged more like 5k hrs but previously I had the game on GOG...
I know I'm very late to this game, but it is a really good "Diablo" style game - isometric, with lots of loot and other similar mechanics. It goes a lot deeper than that too, but for a casual player like me, it's just really soothing and has lot of areas to explore at a decent pace. There's a ton of expnasions too, that I haven't touched yet so we'll see when we get there :)
As a Diablo lover who's too old for Torchlight, too stupid for PoE 2 and too burnt by whatever Diablo 4 is, Grim Dawn was a fun time.
Great RPG, although very grindy and repetitive.
Grim Dawn is a great game and a satisfying RPG that plays very straightforward and easy. Like other RPG's, you control a character, defeat monsters and bosses, level up, spend skill points and complete quests. It is as classic as it will ever be. Grim Dawn has some unique features, however.
In Grim Dawn, you play as a character that has been possessed by the Aetherials and cured by the survivors of Devils Crossing. You start your adventure and fight against the forces of the dead, demons and other vile beasts. Like any classic RPG, your goal is to save the world and be the ultimate hero of the realms.
Some unique elements in Grim Dawn include the crafting system. You find components and blueprints throughout the game and can create relics and gear at the blacksmith.
You also make choices in the game by responding differently to NPCs and quest givers. This can result in different outcomes.
There is also a unique skill system in which you can multiclass and combine certain skills and damage type. My favorite is a Shaman Soldier Tank combo which obliterates everything with force and Thunder.
In your adventures, you come across totems that needs to be cleansed. When you did so, you receive a devotion point, which you can use for massive bonuses in one of the thirty-five skill trees under the stars.
The graphics are nice, grim and dark, just the way it should be. The animations and ragdoll are great and shooting or hitting an enemy with a club looks satisfying.
The sound is also great. The effects of weapons, and enemies sound solid, and the background music is atmospheric and relaxing.
The interface and controls are the same as games like Diablo and Sacred and easy to understand. The inventory management is also self-explanatory.
There are some problems with the game in my opinion:
The stats on the items are ridiculous. There are a million trillion different stats that all do something. Some stats sound exactly the same but apparently do something different. When you pick up an item with 20 different stats on it, it is very hard to see if you should keep that item or not. Certain core stats like Strength or Spirit speak for themselves, but 12 different stats that can all combined do something unique, it just messes with my head.
You can Earn Favor towards different factions (races and clans) to get better items, rewards and merchants. However, the progression of these favors is so incredibly slow, it feels like the ultimate grind of a thousand years.
Another slight problem for me is that the (mini) boss fights are very repetitive and mindless. You just whack them endlessly until they die. There is not some strategy, some attack window or game plan (with the exception of one boss). Just hack and pray. It gets repetitive really fast.
This is one of those games that you need to keep playing for years and years to fully complete. Not necessarily because of the endless content, but rather because of the inhumane grind for levels, renown status and special items with low drop rates.
In the end, the overall experience was great and the collecting of resources, iron, the levelling up, unlocking the totems and skill points kept me going and wondering what would happen next. The game can be a little mindless at times, but sometimes, a simple hack and slash game is all I need to relax. I would surely recommend this game.
The world design is interesting and there are a ton of possible builds, but they all end up taking forever to get into and you end up spamming the same 2-3 abilities. God awful combat. I really tried but the game just doesn't get any better.
Hear me out—this is the best ARPG on the market, in my opinion. It hooked me right away with its gloomy environment and dark, twisted story. I even bought the DLCs for it! The game keeps me playing with every class combination. You should definitely try Grim Dawn—it's worth it!
Unfortunately it’s a no. It is a good game to begin with but has the same pointless grind as other games in in genre.
Decent loot is non existent, 99% of loot is trash.
It has no endgame other than repetitive pointless fights.
Excellent game that offers potential to make a vast amount of unique and viable builds.
