Great dungeon crawler with a lot of humor.
So, so much better in co-op, but still good for single player
Meh. Is a boring gold farm game with nothing to really spend the gold on. The farther in the game you go, the weaker you get. There are weapons/items to change game play a little, but nothing you do makes you stronger, so there is ZERO replay-ability with this one. Really only good if you have a buddy or two in Discord playing with you.
if you want the classic feeling of playing the original Gauntlet Dark Legacy. dont play this
pros:
- you can play local 4 player
- you can steal goodies
- has unique character gear
- more interesting hack-n-slash mechanics than the original
cons:
- cut scenes/story feel like filler content.
- watered down and feels empty.
- 0% of the magic world building from the original game
- no collectables or level secrets or secret characters
conclusion: i was a big fan of the original. it was a basic arcade hack and slash, but it glowed in the way of world-building. your character visually changed as you leveled up, you got a flying rat to help you fight. the narrator sounded so mighty. chests had all sorts of random loot. it was such a fun ride. i even got the game for gamecube, and played it for decades. it was filled with secrets, mazes, wild visuals, and fantastic sounds.. even now its an exciting reprieve from massive games like diablo... this is such a disappointment. i used dolphin emulator for the original after my disc stopped working. no matter how cheap this gets, its still overpriced.
good game to spent some time if you only want to pass time with friends. challenging game if you want to 100% it
I love it!
Pure hack and slash goodness. Up to 4 player local drop in, drop out. The local multiplayer is dope, haven't tried online yet.
Resonant with nostalgic 80's 90's arcade vibes - for three bucks or whatever it is on sale, jump on it. You can run out of health - but you can't lose.
Cheers :)
Ive been looking for this game for years, i use to play it in an arcade machine back in early 90's and also "sunset riders" "shinobi" .... lol finally i got it on steam in 2024 .
it great, looks better, has better moves and spells, customization, upgrades
Great co-op game to just goof around in. Almost no progression, but makes for a good 10 hour or so campaign and when the 4 pack was $6, it was too good to pass up.
While playing this, I just thought "Boy I'd rather be playing Gauntlet Legend/Dark Legacy" the entire time, it tries to channel classic gauntlet's "Lotsa enemies on screen" mentality; except all of these enemies have way more maneuverability then any of the classic games; on top of the emphasis on co-op (but you're forced to share a screen so the really fast enemies are made even worse to deal with;
Attacks have absolutely no weight to them and it uses mouse direction with a slight delay that always seems to make your attacks whiff.
This also has none of the charm of something like Legend or Dark Legacy;
Skip this; figure out a way to play Legends/ Dark Legacy online with friends
Surprisingly fairly active playerbase still. Multiplayer is drop-in/drop-out and it doesn't seem to take long to find a game, at least for campaign. There's only quick matchmaking and no server lobby but I haven't experienced latency issues so far.
Campaign appears to be one-shot (i.e., if you're all dead with no revive tokens, the game ends) but you keep your character progression.
The gameplay is fairly simple but pretty fun. Some weapon/relic variations for each character that offer a different set of skills and there's also some customizations. They do feel steeply priced especially since gold isn't even shared between players so you'll have to grind a bit to get other options.
I do wish the mana accumulation/ultimate skill availability worked differently. Right now, you can only get mana from potions around the map which you'll find to be scarce. There's also no way to revive your teammates manually, dead players have to use revive tokens and additional tokens can only be acquired by killing a number of enemies.
very poor aiming ability.missing targets even those directly in front of me let a lone at a distance.looks nice but unplayable for my standerds.
great game. proceduraly generated challenging skill based dungeon crawler. great to play with friends.
reminds me of the oldschool N64 days would very much approve.
Just found out one of my favorite series DIDN'T die a horrible death with Seven Sorrows
If this is the actual final Gauntlet, at least it's the best one ever made
this game is really good all of of the characters play very well together and are all very unique
Pales in comparison to Gauntlet Legends or Dark Legacy back in the day but for the budget this game was given, a damn fine adventure to coop with friends :)
Still a fun game to play all these years later. I do however wish the developer or some other one decides to step in and update this with new stages.
Gauntlet offers a mix of nostalgia and modern gameplay that keeps you engaged. The visuals are appealing, and the cooperative play is a highlight, making it a fun experience with friends. Overall, a solid choice for fans of the genre.
I'm not sure what it is. Playing through the campaign single player it just doesn't feel like a gauntlet game. It feels much worse than Dark Legacy. Might be more fun with friends later.
They have a riveting story of you're entertaining a wizard for money. (Spoiler)
They changed death drastically. You can't kill him with a potion anymore, now he just follows you slowly and if he touches you it's instant death. But he just disappears and reappears in some levels just because. Basically they've made death a temporary annoyance. Same with actually dying. Respawn in 5 seconds, pick up your gold, carry on.
There's 0 stakes, 0 story, nothing to compel the initial grind.
Might be worth checking out for 3$, definitely not worth 20$.
Fun game. Haven't played with anyone online yet.
Gauntlet Slayer Edition
pros:
//fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on
//good amount of action and special effects
cons:
//a lot of difficult battles/boss battles
//some overpowered enemies
//some enemies have unfair attacks
//some difficult puzzles
//could use more gold drops
//sometimes too many enemies constantly spawn
//some lack of directions/instructions
//sometimes too many traps/hazard areas
//some hazards can instant kill
//some maps are too dark to see
//upgrades require a lot of resources
//collecting resources are a grindfest
//good game

AWESOME! brings back so many wonderful memories of playing at the arcade with friends and strangers!
Gauntlet at its purest form!
Game that you can play along with friends! Nice one!
While everything else does...simplicity never goes out of style.
My friends and I spent more time fighting over the gold than fighting the monsters.
It is a gauntlet-esq experience. Enjoyable with others and by yourself...if you liked the old game, you'll probably like this and if not, it's an interesting top-down hack & slash
very much like the arcade games. overall challenging, get food, get treasures, get keys, open doors, you are greedy, mmmmmm
it's a nice throwback to the original arcade, i wish the game was longer, but it is a lot of fun with friends
Awesome Game!!!!!
fun old school game you can play for hours.
if you are a fan of gauntlet at all you will LOVE this game
revisiting after years, I can confidently say it is 100x better. It's still not old glory Gauntlet Legends but atleast I can say it's a good tribute.
Nostalgia was nice but the ridiculously short story really undermines the replay potential. Don't a pay dime over $5 for it.
fun. better with more people.
Muito bom pra passar tempo
fun with friends
ok alone too
good WASD practice for poe2
(hey that rhymed)
good game
\
pretty neat
got most kills and lowest gold every time, Loot Goblins/10
Masterpiece, fun couch coop smash button
Fun solo or with friends! Was A nostalgic trip for me to my childhood I rate the game 8,9
fun with friends just watch for loot goblins
This iteration of Gauntlet is just plain awful, and that really strikes a nerve with me: I remember loving playing this game with my friends when I was a kid, and we'd play it on n64 for the entire weekend, all of us camped out in the living room with mountain dew cans littering the coffee table and all stocked up on lays sour cream and onion. It was a total blast, great memories.
This version, however, is complete and utter horsecrap, and it possesses absolutely none of the simple hack-and-slash genius that the original unarguably nailed so perfectly. I don't know why tf they didn't just remake the legend, but they clearly decided that they knew better (seems to be actual problem with Swedish developers as it keeps happening over and over) and that they were going to put their own spin on it. Yeah, well what a shame that their 'spin' complete garbage. It's just not fun at all. The heroes are all underwhelming with limp little 'skills' and that alone totally ruins the otherwise entertaining adventure of progressing through levels. I'd seriously rather play with a friking slinky. And they clearly tried to make it 'challenging,' but only succeeded in making it a serious chore to play and totally not worth the effort; it's Gauntlet, you daft tweebs, not friking Dark Souls. It already had a winning formula, how conceited are you to think you could do better? What in the eff is wrong with you people? Got a serious problem with narcissism over there at Arrowhead? I guess after seeing what these clowns did with Helldivers, I should have known better, but alas.
Don't even pick this up on sale. And no, it's not more fun with a group, we tried and it became so quickly clear that this was just a serious waste of money. And a waste of excitement too; I feel like someone just took a dump on yet another fond memory from my childhood. Cool, thanks guys!
This is a great game for Co op minded people and you can even use remote play to play with your friends using a single copy. I'd like to point out that I have zero nostalgia for the original arcade game for good or ill. I'm just enjoying it for what it is on its own.
The game play is simple but fun, as is the progression. There is a good variety of enemies and the levels do a decent job of changing the pace with traps some light puzzles. The combat is again relatively simple but you do have multiple skills and combos. As well as some choice in special abilities using different gear before launching a level.
I personally used remote play to work through it with my friend and we both enjoyed it quite a lot. The end of level stat comparison gives you a reason to compete for kills and money.
Its not a deep game by any stretch of the imagination but if you want to kill some time and have fun with your friends then I cant recommend this game enough. For solo? Not so much.
Huge dissapointment. No real progression, very repetitive. not fun. they shoulda went with legends style instead of the arcade version.
فناانه لدوام 0_0
Takes me back to my youth playing it in the arcades.
You slain monsters, gain money to unlock new weapons and cosmethics for your character. One bad thing is each character has its own pool of money.
Has both a story mode with predefined levels and a endless mode with randomply generated ones.
I like it, gauntlet has been a favourite of mine since Gauntlet IV on the Genesis and Legends on arcade
