Goldrushers is a delightful local multiplayer game that offers a child-like sense of wonder in its playful competition as well as its comical easter eggs. What this game does is drop two players into a playground for a chaotic mess of hilarity with light hearted throwing dynamite at one another, exploring together to find an elusive unicorn, or just partaking in the ancient alchemy of converting coal into gold using slot machines. This game really is about doing whatever you want with a loosely defined structure.
I did notice there to be a high sensitivity issue with the keyboard controls, so using a controller is a far superior experience. Tutorialization isn't completely obvious so first time players, make sure to turn the settings on. If the game appears to be lagging, try setting the graphics setting lower. This will not sacrifice graphics quality all that much while still delivering a fun experience.
As it stands, you will get about an hours worth of content playing by yourself, but this game is meant for emergent play with a friend where you can play as much and as long as you want. If you don't often have a friend around or prefer playing alone, the price point may be steep (get it during the sale!), but if you want to have a fun time with a friend, this game will definitely deliver an amusing experience.
I last played the demo of this game quite a while ago and was happy to find a lot more content was added since then.
Things that I liked:
- Levels are large and encourage exploration. I was happy when I came across a pirate ship with a golden shark!
- Throwing tiny cacti at the other player is always fun
- Blowing up the bank and stealing all the gold
- Placing bear traps and watching the other player get stuck
- You can directly send feedback to the developers via the main menu
Things that I disliked:
- The controls take some time to learn. Since it's been a while, I had to re-learn them. I kept having to push random buttons and look down at my controller because I kept forgetting which did what. Then again, I skipped the tutorial.
- I believe the interactions with the UI can be improved upon. Flow wise, some parts felt smooth while other interactions felt a little wonky.
- I wish I could hold more than 4 objects at a time.
- Requires two people to play
Overall, I would recommend this game to others. It's a great time.
I've been waiting to buy the full game for a few months now. One of my favorite games to play with friends- fun, fast paced, exciting, easy to learn, and the perfect amount of ridiculous to interest everyone watching! It's balanced really well- it's really easy to level the playing field completely and take the lead, with a well placed piece of dynamite and a trap. The environments are fun to explore, and have enough hidden secrets to keep even experienced players interested.
Goldrushers is super fun.
My favorite thing to do is throw horses at my friends and steal all their stuff!
Things that I like:
- Finding secrets and powerups
- Blowing my opponents up
- Stealing all their stuff
Things I dont like:
- Getting all my stuff stolen
- Getting bear trapped
- Not enough hats!
Great game to play with friends or at a party!
